Bad experience tonight at Cafe Evergreen. Burnt food cold and mushy sweet potato fries. They offered to give it to me for free. I went there for good food not free food. Service was poor, no setup couldn't get a fork and had to ask for a napkin. I think the whole staff is phoning it in tonight. What a great find! So many vegan options for me, and non-vegan options for my husband. The kelp noodles were delicious. It was pretty large serving but I ate whole thing! Café Evergreen is a breathe of fresh air, I mean literally fresh. I have been three times now and not once been disappointed. From the smoothie, to the avocado wrap, to the Salmon with Asian sauce, everything tastes fresh, healthy, and uniquely delicious. The only drawback is the wine selection, but I don't even consider it a sacrifice as long as they continue to serve these amazing dishes. Went there this afternoon after reading the reviews on Yelp. Lovely place, clean and comfortable. The menu had something for just about any hungry person. I had the peach/ginger tea and Larry had the black tea, both good and the refills kept coming...Larry, the meat eater, chose the very lean brisket, he said it was really good. I had the eggplant wrap, packed with fresh vegetables. We both enjoyed the Napa cabbage slaw, no unhealthy mayo here...darn we were too full to try a dessert or 2, and I love dessert. This is a great example of a kitchen that cares . My wife just brought home a takeout veggie sandwich that's easily one of the best meat-free, guilt-free chews you'll inhale in these environs . We've been huge fans of Cafe Evergreen since they were located at Warm Mineral Springs spa. I feel like I'm eating really healthy food that is also seriously satisfying and good. Anything salmon that they make is fantastic and I am addicted to their sweet potato fries. Pretty sure we have tried everything on the menu and it's all great...you can't go wrong. This was one of the worst dining experiences of my life. I don't like to slam restaurants for bad service, and I don't enjoy giving one star reviews, but this was just on another level of bad. If I could give it negative stars, I'd give it a negative-3. We walked out of the restaurant after 2 hours of no food except some appetizers that took over an hour to come out. The manager has got to be the worst restaurant manager I've ever encountered. She flat out lied to us, in addition to being unapologetic, giving a ton of excuses, being extremely patronizing, and acting like she was doing us a favor by comping the late appetizers. Our reservation was for 6:30, we were a party of 7. We were seated promptly but then it took 30 minutes for the server to take our food order. She got the drinks order but then just didn't stop by for the food order. We ordered a few appetizers and main courses. Another 30+ minutes later and we had nothing except for the drinks, a bowl of soup someone, and the kid's mac n' cheese. We called over the manager, and instead of being apologetic she started giving us excuses like the restaurant was busy, the kitchen is small, other people were waiting, etc. etc. Then she said she'd comp the appetizers and they would be right out. Another 15 minutes and no appetizers, nothing else came out. So we called her over again and I pointed out how the table next to ours had gotten their dinner, desserts, paid, and left, in the same time we only got drinks. So instead of apologizing, she kept making excuses, saying "well that table only had two kids meals and a dessert, and those don't take long to make, but you probably got some meals which take a while to make". Well let me tell you that if a restaurant is run right, they prioritize the food not by the ease of preparation but by the time the customers order. And if they can't get that down, they need someone new in charge of the kitchen. Then we mentioned that a ton of the other tables were seated and got their food before we did and she flat out didn't care. At one point she said "Well I'm already comping you appetizers and I explained that we have a small kitchen, so your food will be out very soon". Like she was doing us a favor by comping us the appetizers. And if the kitchen is too small to serve a party of 7 in less than an hour, they need to reduce the number of tables they serve! I said this to her right before we walked out. She had to have been lying to us, there is no way a restaurant was that slow. Especially with all these excellent reviews, maybe they forgot to put in our order, the kitchen messed up, I don't know, but she just kept saying everything was normal, everyone else was waiting (not true, the entire restaurant turned over while we were waiting for our meals, so the people waiting got there over an hour after we did), blah blah blah lie lie excuse lie. Finally when the appetizers did come out, they were just alright, nothing special, I was kind of disappointed after waiting all that time. But honestly, anything short of amazing after an hour would be disappointing. THEN, another 30 mins went by and no main meal. At this point the entire table was LIVID. We called over the manager again and she turned extremely patronizing, telling us how she was trying to be our friend in the kitchen, and there is not much more she can do, and how my attitude wasn't helping anything, and how she needs us to work with her. This is NOT what a restaurant manager should do. What she SHOULD have done is apologized profusely and multiple times, she should not have given any excuses, she should have told the kitchen to rush our meal after the fiasco with the appetizers, and once the meal didn't come out within a reasonable amount of time, she could have comped the whole meal, at least 50% of the meal, or something more than just the appetizers. It got to the point that as a table we were so fed up we told them we were walking out. This was after the manager said 5 more minutes, and it was then 12 minutes later, total of over TWO HOURS after we sat down, and no meal. We were tired of the lies and excuses and patronizing attitude. So the manager just said well the food will be right out so you can stay or you can leave, your choice. We got up and left. Didn't pay for anything, not for that level of service. Thank goodness they didn't dare try to charge us for anything either. I dunno who this manager is, but with that attitude I hope she gets seriously reprimanded and explained how to properly run a restaurant. As for our night, a nice family meal was ruined by the horrible service we got at this restaurant. I picked up some Tijuana flats on the way home and the rest of my family ate leftovers. I will never come back here. I hope it was just an off night, but if it's not, beware that if you have a problem with the service at this restaurant, the manager doesn't care at all. read more

Decided to try this based on the stellar reviews. We were not disappointed. Our server Sarah was beautiful, friendly and made great suggestions. Tried the blueberry wine (kinda dry), bortsch, hubby had soup of the day and French dip, with Napa cabbage slaw and I had the kelp noodle stir fry. All of which were fantastic. Second time eating here for lunch. First time was with picky eaters who all found just what they wanted. Today, I just wanted a good, hearty lunch without feeling like I was eating restaurant food. We had the Classic Reuben sandwiches. The Reuben was made with tasty, lean corned beef, homemade sauerkraut, and Swiss on marble rye. The taste and texture was excellent. Also, the bread was dry-toasted and not greasy; put together so that the bread didn't ever become soggy while you're eating it--nice touch. I tried the kimchi, which was just the right flavor and not too spicy (1st time I've had it in 25 years and this tasted better than in Korea). My wife had the sweet potato fries that were served cold and not very good. They have a whole menu of beverages extolling various health benefits; my wife really likes the Arnold Palmer. read more

Excellent lunch yesterday with a friend! She knows I'm a picky vegetarian and was apprehensive if I would find anything I would like here. Well, the summer squash ravioli was DELICIOUS! And the salad that came with it was YUMMY, the dressing (coconut milk and mango) was WONDERFUL! My friend had the shrimp salad and she raved about it and the dressing as well. We were visiting for the Fox Lea horse show. When we arrived at lunch time, the parking lot was completely full. The restaurant was packed with a few groups, each taking up an entire row of tables. That's ok, we sat outside with our lab, they have 3 covered tables just outside the main door. Wife ordered the veggie burger, I ordered the veggie wrap. I've been here about 5 times and things have really gone south in the last couple years! Previously, we enjoyed their fresh salads; however, on our most recent visit the salad was small, expensive and chicken was so rubbery, it was inedible. My first visit here I had the turkey reuben and it was delicious... however, on another visit the sandwich was not so great, bland turkey and warmish/limp sweet potato fries (they are baked, so not cooked to order). Gluten free mac and cheese is good, you would never know its GF. Desserts are meh. Service here is somewhat slow, but very friendly. Unfortunately, we won't be back anytime soon. Although I am new to the organic foods, each time I have gone to Cafe Evergreen, I have always enjoyed my meal. They offer a wide variety of options.
