The boba tea doesn't taste like there's any tea in it. Its overly sweet and that's all I taste is sweet milk. They have to stop getting cheap with the ingredients plus there wasn't enough bobas just enough to cover the bottom of the cup and they are too chewy. I'll be looking for a authentic boba tea shop that knows that 'tea' should be the main ingredient. read more

Of course we jump in the car and head over immediately. Boba tea is a luxury and expect it to cost as much as a Starbucks or even more. We saw somewhere that on Thursdays, its Thai Tea Thursday for $5. However, We didn't speak up when it came to almost $15 for a Thai Tea and Tiger Milk Boba . Don't know how much each of them cost. But was cool and refreshing. So who cares. The young guy working was very polite and even offered us a punch card on our way out as we mentioned this will be our new spot. It is dog friendly, with water bowl outside and a dog treat bowl. There's a place to put your business cards if you want to network. It pays to really drive through these small shopping centers. This was a very unique situation for me. Before driving 40 minutes to this funky fresh boba tea, I called to make sure they have boba and Thai tea. The man who answered said, "yes". I said, "ok great we are on our way". As I arrive and placed my order the girl said, "we are sorry we are out of the boba currently". My heart shattered I was in disbelief! I was so upset and told her we drove so far to get some and I called before hand. She said, "we can make some but it will take about 5 minutes." Unfortunately it took well over 20 minutes. I was a upsetting to wait so long. I ended up purchasing 3 drinks and I didn't even get offered one free drink or even an apology for everything taking so long. I feel like they should have prepared the boba when they knew they were getting low & not make customers wait so long. The Thai tea drink was delicious but not worth the extremely long wait. Let me start this off by saying I've only been here once. Hence, the two stars because I'm holding out hope that maybe the next time the drinks could be better (I'll review my second visit as well). I'm a hopeful person - it's my toxic trait. Part of me knows though that if one visit to a "boba tea" place gives you crap boba on the first go around, a one-star crap review is totally warranted. Because if their whole business is built around serving boba tea, oh excuse me, FRESH boba tea, then I would expect good fresh boba tea. What I ordered: Tiger Sugar Milk Tea What I got: "Tiger Sugar Milk Tea" How many times have I ordered a Tiger Sugar Milk Tea at other stores? An abundant of times. Too many times to count. But where did I go? Only at the milk tea capital of America - Orange County, California. So it is purely my fault that I am able to quickly sort out GOOD boba milk tea from CRAP boba milk tea. And this place? One sip already told me it goes into the crap category. Readers and good-boba-milk-tea sojourners, boba milk tea is an art form that is so deeply imbedded in Asian culture. And we also love sharing our love of milk tea with others. That said, when I was first dating my now husband and I heard him order a "blueberry slushie with no boba" at an Asian-owned milk tea store, I cringed in embarrassment and made eyes at the cashier in silent apology that my white boyfriend chose such a basic drink. But he has matured and I eventually married him and he now knows without a doubt that good boba milk tea should have fresh warm boba with a sweet delicate balance of non-dairy milk and sweetener. Even he knows this! A non-Asian! I love when other cultures try other cuisines that are well-treasured in other communities. However, when you start trying to profit off of that prized cultural cuisine, you better do your honest to god research and GET. IT. RIGHT. Here it goes. Tiger Sugar Milk Tea is commonly made with brown sugar syrup, black tea, and some type of milk. The good kinds have their boba soaked and bathed in this brown sugar syrup which the barista will typically pour and swirl around the inner sides of the cup before pouring ice and milk tea. The milk tea should be strong. It shouldn't taste old or like it's been left out too long. The tea itself needn't be too sweet as the brown sugar syrup will do the sweetening. And the boba? Oh, that's supposed to be warm and gooey. Not hard and old and barely edible. It's a hard drink but also a basic drink. It you claim to be a boba milk tea place, this should be simple and easy. You should always get it right because it's pretty much a classic drink now amongst the Asian community. Just...do better people. Yes, they serve "funky" drinks. If you claim other cultural drinks to be abnormal and therefore "funky"...whatever. Sure. But get it right. I see they also claim to make "traditional Vietnamese coffee" and I am itching to try that next because *hysterical laugh* it's traditional alright and very distinct. I'll see you next time and hope to not be disappointed by your, at best, very crappy drinks. read more

I was really pleasantly surprised with this boba place in this small random ass beach town after a day cooking in the sun. I grew up around areas where there's a boba shop around every corner, but I've also lived around areas where the best boba you can get is a powdered smoothie with tapioca at your local Asian restaurant so I know to adjust my judgement given the context. This one was way better than I expected, I appreciated their creative menu, quirky decor, and Knick knacks sold around the shop contributing to a touristy vibe. I ordered the dawn to galaxy the mango starts and I really enjoyed my drink. I don't have too much to say, other than it tasted good, I was entertained by the idea of it, and I finished the whole thing. I am not someone who likes to step out of my comfort zone often, so I'll admit I was a little skeptical when I decided to try a new boba shop I had not vetted out before. However, despite my reservations, I can attest that the boba here at Funky Fresh was both funky, and fresh! I was pleasantly surprised by the prices since boba is traditionally a bit more expensive, but everything was amazing from top-to-bottom here. I had a bit of trouble navigating the menu since I tend to be a bit of a picky eater (drinker?). With that said though, I want to give a personal shout-out to team-member Ava for holding my hand every step of the way! They were so friendly and helpful and overall just an absolute delight to start off my afternoon. I'll definitely be stopping here more when I visit Venice. I would highly recommend my friends and family to do the same when in the area :) read more

The almond milk tea was the right sweetness for my wife, but she suspects that it was missing the tea. I enjoyed the Starfruit specialty drink.
