Lol!! $9 for 3 1/2 sips of something that looked line nestled quick chocolate milk your mom would give you when you got home from school in 1975. I'm a big man so vegetarian food hasn't ever appealed to me because I feel like meat is where you get most of your substance in any meal.... But I was wrong. I ordered the black bean burger and it was so good. My mouth waters just thinking about it. I went here with my family and the staff/owners were so accommodating to a large party (the restaurant isn't large at all.) They have wine that doesn't have sulfates and their menu is vast. Recently took a friend for lunch, based on some very pleasant visits to this restaurant a year ago. It seems a complete turnaround this time. Ordered a Thai salad with Ahi Tuna. What I got was a sorry bowl of badly chopped up cabbages, very stale peanuts, dried out tasteless ahi tuna slices, and fully covered with some dry mini noodles of sort, out of a commercial package. I was just staring at it, and my friend asked the waitress where the ahi tuna was. Under the the noodles, she said. Awful presentation, and worst taste. I called the waitress and told her I could not eat that. She was willing to exchange it but no apologies whatsoever. I had it replaced with an appetizer ahi tuna plate which was a big improvement, but I could not get the stale peanut taste disappear. My friend's ahi tuna bowl was obviously also hurriedly thrown together, a mishmash of chopped salad over some tasteless quinoa. At least without peanuts, and the ahi tuna slices on top. This was a restaurant my wife wanted me to try for dinner. She had lunch here with the ladies one afternoon this past week. If you are a vegetarian or need gluten free food this restaurant is up your ally. We both had a special of the night. It was tea noodles with veggies and chicken. It was good and that' all I can say. I absolutely love this place! It is always a must visit for me when I'm in Nokomis. Last time I was there I had the midnight drink with watermelon, lime, mint, blueberries and kombucha on the recommendation of the waitress. It was delicious and fresh! Perfect for a hot day in Florida. I also ordered the salmon sandwich. The portion was large and I definitely feel like I got my money's worth but the salmon was also perfectly cooked. Paired will dill sauce and avocado it was the perfect lunch. I love this place and would highly recommend it if you are looking for something spectacular and unique for your palette. read more

And when my husband politely brought it to the attention of our server (turns out Dave doesn't like his wife being referred to as a guy), she got defensive and said "guys" was a gender-neutral term. Uhm. No. "Folks" is. "Y'all" is. "Guys" is pretty much cock and balls straight up. (Note: the customer, if you like tips, is always right. Regardless, we tipped her well because we are not dicks.) Very disappointed this visit..... Order a Buffalo/Bison burger, which is discribed as .... Buffalo (Bison) mixed with feta cheese, roasted red peppers and topped with artichoke. Well they forgot one thing, they cut the wonderful hearty Buffalo burger with breadcrumbs. I'm not sure there was feta in my burger, maybe it melted into the breadcrumbs. This burger is totally unacceptable to be called a burger. People order burgers for a good meat experience and even a greater expectation at $11.95. No one wants the texture of a meatloaf when ordering a burger. The server did assure the bread crumb were GF, who knows. Disgusted by their attitudes, we walked over to Cafe Evergreen where the four of us had a wonderful experience. Great food, including Savor Sarasota options. It is so wonderful to find a restaurant with a variety of delicious gluten free/vegetarian options AND items that suit other eating preferences in our group. Kids, adults, and even our dog (we ate outside) were all pleased with the attentive service and quality of food. Our waitress, Loni, was patient and thoughtful, bringing out water for the dog without being asked, and splitting up a smoothie for the kids. We will definitely make this a regular stop in the rotation when in town! read more

I went here because it had such a high rating on yelp. I went with a friend who is vegan so this seemed like a good find. We ordered a blue green algae shot and asked the server of the origin - she did not know and said the owner would likely not tell us. This made us uncomfortable and annoyed to think that we wouldn't be told where something we were being fed came from. The owner came over and she was very nice. We requested to know about the origins of the blue green algae and she gave us the most ridiculous story I have heard. She actually said that she pays these divers in Oregon at the Klamath Lake to dive 3000 - 6000 feet to harvest this algae and "shock freeze" it and send it to Florida once per week. We were obviously skeptical buy did not want to take it any further. After leaving the restaurant i started to research the lake and found it to be a shallow Lake in Oregon that has a nuisance algae problem due to agricultural waste runoff. I am not sure why she made that up but it made me very angry to know we were lied to for no reason. We had a legitimate question on the origin of the algae since there are sources that are harmful. The food was decent but I will never go back here. Do not lie to your customers. Without the lie this would be a 4 star review. read more

It's true. I am not posting nearly as often as I once did. There are multiple reasons for this that all stem for the same source...I have a one year old. Going out to eat doesn't happen very often anymore...because I have a one year old. When I do get out for a treasured, rare, date night with my husband, I never seem to find the time to write about it...because I have a one year old. When we go out as a family, it's usually to places we've been before, or where we know the owners...because I have a one year old. Today was different. Today was a VERY special day. It was the first day in over a year that I took an official day off from my one year old. Now don't get me wrong. I loooooove being a mom. I loooooooove spending time bonding with, playing with, and taking care of her, but OMG, today was glorious. First on the agenda was to finally go for lunch at Cafe Evergreen. I've heard such great things about it and the menu is incredible....sooooo many pescaterian options that sound amazing. When I sat down the friendly waitress made some suggestions at my request and they were ALL appealing. Clearly I'm going to need to make a few more visits. I told her why it was a special day for me and she was totally supportive and amused, and stayed to chat a bit before she left me to ponder the menu options. The manager came by soon after with a complimentary edamame appetizer which was a nice touch- although I didn't love the strong seasoning they put on it. I prefer my edamame done classically with just a pinch of sea salt. When the waitress returned for my order I told her that I was taking her recommendation of the Roasted Beet Reuben and I chose the Arugula/apple/almond salad as my side. She had mentioned to me that she'd never had beets (?!?) before that sandwich and that she really loved it. Beets are one of my very favorite foods, and lately I've been on a huge sauerkraut kick, so it didn't take much to convince me. As I reveled in my aloneness, I let my mind wander to this blog and how I used to find such satisfaction in writing entries. I looked forward to this moment of writing and reminiscing about my meal, and vowed to make more of an effort to stick with it even with the challenges that motherhood has brought. I decided right then and there that there would be more of an effort to take 'me' days, and that those days would surely include more trying restaurants by myself like I used to in the 'old days'. My meal came out looking delicious and I dug right in. WOW. That sandwich was shockingly good. Fresh, lightly-toasted, marble rye, warm, sweet, roasted, beets, melty Swiss cheese, tangy sauerkraut, and thousand island dressing. These are things that I wouldn't have guessed would taste so so so good together but seriously, it was one of the best flavor combos I've ever had. The salad was simple and perfect with a light, creamy, dill dressing that complimented the whole meal beautifully. When the waitress came to check on me I raved about my lunch, so happy that I'd finally gotten down to Venice to check this great cafe out. She joked with me that given my day-off-rose-colored glasses, situation, it probably wasn't too hard to impress me. Well, maybe she was right...but this really was an absolutely perfect meal. WOW. I have had this location bookmarked for an embarrassing amount of time (think 2+ years), yet somehow never made it...til this weekend! Cafe Evergreen knocks it out of the park with fantastic, friendly service, as well as an incredibly fresh and healthy menu (seriously, it is one of those places that it's so hard to choose an entree because EVERYTHING sounds delicious), AND to top it off, gorgeous presentation. I ended up going with their Chana Masala (which was prepared with chickpeas and eggplant) and serviced with a quiona pilaf. SO flavorful and yummy! I enjoyed it with our server's recommendation, the kefir mojito (non-alcoholic) and ended with their amazing flourless chocolate cake. While I refer to this place as a "chick restaurant", there is no denying it is one of the best places to eat in the area. The flavors and textures of the food is out of this world and I always feel healthier for eating there. While I was hesitant to try the quinoa cakes, they are one of my all-time favorite things to eat. The service has always been great and the wait staff is very good. The service was great. The place is spotless and the food amazing. The avocado salad came with hummus and a delicious vinaigrette. I usually don't like vinaigrette and this one was great!!! The smoothies had so much taste, I can assure you my banana almond milk smoothly had a whole banana in it!! WOW this is definitely a big surprise. Remarkably fresh and delicious food I would say this is the best restaurant in that Venice has to offer! Real food, made fresh. I would recommend this to anyone they have a large variety of food offerings many of which are organic, They offer multiple handmade dressings for their salads we had the avocado vinaigrette and the ranch both were smooth and delicious. Incredible service and a very welcoming environment for children. This restaurant could / should throw sharky's of the pier easily. read more

Service was poor, no setup couldn't get a fork and had to ask for a napkin. I think the whole staff is phoning it in tonight. I was really impressed with this restaurant's food choices that appeal to many types of diets. I came for dinner and ordered the roasted cauliflower and shrimp potato gnocchi. My partner had the special of the evening, which was some type of falafel with spinach and peppers. We finished off with the almond balls. I don't think there's anything negative I could say about the whole experience. Our server (I've forgotten his name by now) was incredibly sweet and even took one of our suggestions to the kitchen for a possible future menu item. My wife loves butternut squash ravioli as well as pesto sauce. They had a dish of both! (Not the perfect combo though. Finding a good restaurant is hard for us. I eat a whole-food plant based diet, so eating out is rare. We came here with my parents for my husbands birthday dinner. I ordered the Kelp Noodle Stir Fry and it was amazing. The sauce was delectable- I need a copy cat recipe ASAP. I can eat a lot, and I still was able to take some for lunch the next day. My mom ordered the Avocado Wrap and added salmon, she raved about it. My husband ordered the Beef Brisket and could not believe the HUGE serving size. We were all stuffed!!! The Avocado Sliders are really good too. Service was great, our waitress was very friendly and knowledgable. If you save room for desert- I highly recommend the peanut butter one! Finally-REAL FOOD in Nokomis. I've had my eye on this little place ever since seeing that it was opening. Great menu for all people and especially vegetarians. I'm usually ready to order pretty quickly because all restaurants in this area have either 1 or 0 vegetarian option. So I was pleasantly surprised when I actually had to think about what I wanted to try. :) Clean place, great service and the food was so good. Not overly priced for organic food; the little produce shop in the back was somewhat expensive, understandably so. One of my favourite things about a restaurant like this is, when I leave I feel good, not bloated, not 'stuffed', but full and just good. This was much needed in Nokomis as there are limited options for healthy food. read more
