Having been here many times over the years, I can testify to the high and consistent quality of the food and delightful service. We just recently came for a smash burger and the very delicious spicy Southern fried chicken sandwich and their stand-out fries. A couple of old-fashioneds went with this perfectly. The drinks were perfectly strong. We used to come for their burger night and get a chick-pea burger that was so savory and tasty. I didn't see it on a recent visit, but perhaps it will rotate in. Updating my review of Cafe Hitchcock as the last time I was here I did not try the food. WHAT WAS I THINKING? Really impressed by what Cafe Hitchcock has built here. This place is awesome! The ambiance is cozy but still booming and the staff always handles it like pros. I had a PHENOMENAL espresso martini that was so damn smooth and exactly what my day needed! ;) The star of the show? THE KING CRAB EGGS BENEDICT Oh my GAWD. Where has this bit of heaven been all my life? We stopped in yesterday for a late lunch and we're so glad we did! Tip: many businesses and eateries in Winslow are closed on Monday; not Cafe Hitchcock. Service was warm, friendly and quick. The food is unique even if the item has a non unique name. We ordered non unique Ham and Cheese Sandwich and Pastrami with an Irish coffee to take the chill from outdoors off. The sandwiches were amazing my pastrami was on real Jewish rye piled high with lean tasty pastrami just enough sauerkraut to add zing and not soak the rye bread. A pickle or two and some fancy fantastic sauce. I have never had better or even as good. Jeanie raved about her ham and cheese on focaccia. Omg. Don't ever order the grilled cheese sandwich. They have no grill. The bread had to be sent back because it wasn't toasted at all. I guess they have one of those roller ovens. 1 piece of cheese, not grilled bread...22.00 but it had 2 pieces of bacon. Rip off!. We decided to end our night at a nearby bar-- just so happened that we happened upon Cafe Hitchcock on a drag night. STOKED seeing local queens, I've heard amazing things about how diverse the Seattle drag scene is. Took a little trip to Bainbridge Island with my daughter, and after a day of walking and shopping, and seeing the sights we found this little gem. Cozy, inviting, and the perfect spot to end the day. The service was attentive without being intrusive. The food was delicious. I had the tomato soup and the smash burger OKC style (onions shmooshed onto patty). My daughter had the crispy chicken sandwich, Nashville style. All came out properly cooked, on time, and hot. It was delicious. The rest of the menu looked good. Service was crazy slow. They were not that busy either mid afternoon. We went with counter service and it took like 40 mins for a burger and fries. I asked for them to wipe off the table and even though she said she would, it wasn't done. We had clearly asked for our burger to be split and included ketchup, neither was done, although we were supplied with a knife and ketchup when we asked. Food was good, for $22 it ought to be. Plus they include a "non-gratuity service charge" of $1.50 on top. Plus asked for 18-22% tip before we got bad service and bussed our own dishes to the over flowing bin. I met a friend for lunch and it was not very busy. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich, which I've had before and was delicious. It looked great but when I cut it in half it was raw in the middle. It took a while for the server to come back. When I asked for it to be cooked more, he said, "well it is a chicken thigh". In my opinion, even a thigh should be fully cooked. He brought me a new sandwich and the chicken was burned. So, I guess their cooks are not skilled enough to cook a chicken thigh all the way through without burning it on the outside. read more

Suuuper meaty burger and sandwich menu right now with just a sad sack, expensive grilled cheese for the vegetarians. The grilled cheese has a nice flavorful pesto, but a small amount of cheese that seems to only be present on the very outer edges, and no good crispy-ness at all. I know that Hitchcock can cook a great vegetable but they seem to have an incredibly strong meat focus at the expense of everything else. Even the biggest meat eaters might have family or friends that might want something veggie. It would be nice to have one sandwich option that isn't depressing. read more

The spot gets really busy, so make sure to allocate time for that. I went on a Monday but the Island constantly operates on a busy summer schedule, so it was still pretty crowded. I had gotten the garden bowl and because there were so many people, expect a bit of a wait for your food. My take on café Hitchcock is that everything is very solidly executed but not mind blowing. My garden bowl was fresh and very filling. Everything was pretty balanced with the pickles, and then the grains and the fresh vegetables. I actually ended up having to offer some of the food to my friend because I just couldn't finish it all but everything felt very healthy and nutritious. Chicken noodle soup was bomb! Exactly what I needed that day when I just wanted something light but delicious. It was so flavorful-robust and peppery and it had plenty of chicken and noodles. Came here for drinks while waiting for the ferry and got a great outdoor table on a slow weeknight evening. Our server was quite possibly very new - was unable to answer questions about drinks, left us alone for long periods of time while we were waiting for answers and waiting to order, etc. I was a curious customer and was hoping they might be able to modify something off the cocktail menu for me, or make something custom, given that the menu was creative and interesting, but it ended up being a strictly by the menu kind of place - like, very strict - and I didn't love the menu options though my dining partner found something right away. And so we waited for quite some time. Ultimately we ended up chatting with the bartender, who made some great recommendations. He was awesome and our drinks were excellent with great flavor; they do all their own infusions and it shows. Highly recommend the cocktails if something on the menu appeals to you. read more

I'm a fan of the Hitchcock group and have been to the Seattle Café Hitchcock location, so it was nice to see there was one on Bainbridge Island when I visited. However, I am disappointed that the burger is no longer available, as I read that it was one of the best in the Seattle area from a local blogger. But, that's okay. At least there were other goodies. Plus, I wasn't looking for a meal since I visited right after lunch and just wanted a drink to pick-me-up. I had planned on ordering a coffee until I saw that they served on tap the Junbug Honeybrew Kombucha. I had to give that a try. Just note that on a Saturday afternoon, the place was busy. Most indoor tables were taken; however, there is outdoor seating. The strawberry kombucha was solid. I'm a fan of kombucha, and liked that Junbug Honeybrew is locally made and is a concoction of Brendan McGill's, so would not disappoint. Which it did not. For anyone who likes kombucha, it's worth trying. Or heck, if you haven't been to a Cafe Hitchcock, visit for delicious sandwiches, salads and small plates that are made fresh. I dig it. read more
