Took the ferry from Seattle to Bainbridge Island and landed at Harbor Public House looking for great food and waterfront vibes. The views? 10/10. Absolutely beautiful. Postcard views. The food? Let's just say it was so shy on flavor that I wasn't sure if my taste buds had stayed on the ferry. Nothing terrible, but the seasoning appeared to be on PTO like me that day. A quick heads-up: you order at the bar and pick up your own food. No table service. If you're sitting there waiting for a server, you'll be waiting longer than the ferry ride. So, if you give bad service this isn't the place for you. And now for the most important tip of the review: LOCK THE BATHROOM DOOR. Seriously. Unless you've always dreamed of making eye contact with a complete stranger during your most vulnerable moment, turn that lock. Trust me, nobody wants an unexpected co-star in that scene. Came here with some friends the other night. We ordered some soups, fish n chips and burgers. Everything was ok except for the soups. My partners soup looks like they put it together in a few minutes, some of the vegetables were still hard and you can tell they just chopped them up and tossed them in. My partner sent it back and the girl working told her "yea I don't like that one either" thanks for the heads up. My clam chowder was really watery not the consistency you'd expect from a chowder. Burgers were ok for pub food as for the fish and chips. The place itself was nice, plenty of seating, nice decor, good location with parking which not a lot of places have around here. read more

Came here while on vacation Today. The service was great. I wish I got the bartenders name they were awesome. Very kind and friendly. I was having a bad morning and expressed why . They checked in on me and made my little family feel very welcomed. We're an LGBTQ family and latinos so not the same experience everywhere we go. Grateful for the ladies and their hospitality! Waited well over an hour for food. Clearly they're catering mainly to the bar crawlers and inebriated cyclist gangs and food is given an abysmally lower priority. It's like they have only half a line cook working on a single burner. If you're just there to drink you're probably fine, but if you're hungry you're gonna stay that way for an absurdly long time. Also, the menu calls it a smash burger, but it's the same thick patty you get at every other restaurant in the world. No smash was ever involved. read more

Sailed in for dinner and was horribly disappointed. First off, No wait staff and open seating was odd for this sort of place. That said, the staff was quick, responsive and very nice, the problem was the food. I ordered a Pub Smash burger, the menu made it sound good. I'm bummed I didn't take a picture of what arrived. A mid sized aluminum plater with a dry bun with ZERO anything on the bun, a patty with cheese on top of the dry bottom bun, and for presentation they leaned the dry top bun off the side of the burger. Next to the burger was a single pice of very wilted lettuce and some thin cut but very wilted red onion and little paper cup of relish & bag of Tim's Potato Chips and that's it. And the real kick in the face is that it was $25!! I added fries that were $7 and showed up ice cold. Now for the part that kept me from giving them one star, my wife had the Smoked Oyster & Fried Polenta salad that she enjoyed and it was the special so the price wasn't insane. Cool place for a drink, but skip the smash burger. The fish and chips looked good so maybe that's a better choice if you want food. read more

I came here with some friends on a Friday night. We were able to sit immediately as it was self seating and there were a few tables open. Once we finished our dinner, a table with a fireplace opened up so we moved for dessert. There were about 3-4 tables outside on the patio with a fireplace and the rest were close by overlooking the waterfront. The staff and bartenders were beyond friendly - the kindest women ever!!! The food was delicious and I highly recommend the fish & chips with tartar sauce. My favorite of the desserts was the bread pudding, but my friends loved the brownie. What a cool place! Slightly off the overly beaten Bainbridge path, in all the right ways. It has a great feel with lots of woodwork and a classic bar, where you do all your ordering from. The outside overlooks the water and they had lots of heaters, a plus in the fall! We had the cod and chips, and the kimchi poutine - both total winners. The cod was fresh and fluffy with perfect breading and the fries were amazing. Clearly home-cut and fried in clean oil, they were everything you'd want in a fry! The poutine was really good, but it's a stretch to call it kimchi given it was really pickled cabbage (which, I know is what kimchi is but this wasn't that), however the mix of veggies, fries, pickles toppings and cheese was delicious- and their veggie gravy was sooo good! What a disappointment. The Harbour used to be a place worth visiting, but the food has gone seriously downhill over the years and it's hard to see what's left to recommend. To make matters worse, you're expected to order at the counter and clear your own table when you're done -- this isn't a fast food restaurant, so why are customers doing the work? There's minimum table service to speak of, which makes the whole experience feel impersonal and frankly lazy on the part of management. The food quality simply doesn't justify the effort or the price. Standards have slipped and nobody seems to care enough to fix it. Came to the island to hang out for a little bit and saw this cool spot with the views!! The views said it all so off we went! Not too far of a drive from the ferry, it's a quaint little spot tucked away. When we walked in, I loved that it felt like you were apart of a little town, the bartender greeted us quickly and asked if we'd ever been there before and since we hadn't he gave us the run down of all the specials and local brews available! Oysters were $1 each on HH so of course we had to get a few, as they'd be super fresh, and they were!! The sockeye salmon in the fish and chips was excellent. Nice thin crispy batter and delicious fish. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for the chips which were greasy and limp. Three meals received, famous clam chowder, fish and chips and tomato soup and Beecher grilled cheese sandwich. Food: 3 stars Service: 3.5 stars Atmosphere: 4.5 stars Starting with the good: Atmosphere: the atmosphere is great if you're looking for a casual, small public house feel with a nice view. We were there on a nice summer day and, with the windows and doors open, it was very nice. Prices: I wouldn't call it an amazing value, but given the location, I could easily see other places gouging customers - particularly for seafood. When we were there, fish and chips was $16 (I think) and fish tacos were the daily special for $12. I think those are very reasonable prices in today's environment. Drinks were also reasonably priced for today's market. The mixed: the staff was obviously working very hard and doing it with grace. The place was busy, but not overly crowded on a Thursday afternoon around 1:30 pm -- yet, because they really need more hands on deck, I probably waited 15 minutes+ just to place a small order and it took another 20-30 minutes (I think, I didn't time it) for the food to come out. Considering that it's largely a self-serve system and they weren't nearly as busy as they could have been, placing our order and getting our food took a very long time. Perhaps they were short-handed that afternoon. Having said that, the staff was all working very hard and the lady who was manning the bar and taking all the food and drink orders was doing so with grace under pressure. The not-so-great: the food has room for improvement. As mentioned above, we had the fish tacos and fish and chips. The taco used for the fish taco did not taste good. The ingredients were all fresh, which was good. The fish was small, but they were $12 fish tacos. They had large bell peppers, which we generally like, but they dominated the taco. The salsa was gratuitously hot. If you like spicy, you may like that. We would have preferred an option for something a bit more mild. The fish in the fish and chips seemed fresh, but the batter was the most bland I've ever had -- so, overall, they were okay (edible), but probably my least enjoyable fish and chips ever. The fries were fine and plentiful. The cold slaw tasted like some fresh cabbage and carrot, diced and tossed with just mayonnaise. (One of us loves cold slaw, but neither of us wanted to eat more than a bite.) The place has great promise. IMO, the chef could improve with further work on these recipes - at least for the two dishes mentioned above, although I suspect probably more. The staff needs at least one more person behind the bar and probably another hand in the kitchen, even during moderate-paced business. Prices are good and the atmosphere is great. I probably won't eat a meal here again (unless things change), but I would definitely stop by for a beer and a simple appetizer. Good luck!! read more

I'm a big seafood person and super critical of clam chowders. This one was 10/10. Literally could not improve upon it. It's a working dish - I would guess a half pound of whole clams - and minimal broth. Maybe 6-7 ounces? But that is all you need when it was that good. It was perfect.
