I was craving some Trinidadian food and searched for roti in yelp and found this place. I was excited to try the food since it had really good reviews. I decided to do a to go order and enjoy it at home. The restaurant was easy to find downtown and I was able to find parking one block away. I was really hungry and decided to buy a few different things. I got an order of the vegetable samosas, Chana masala, garlic naan, roti and rice. I thought the rice would be automatically given with the masala but I ended up paying additional for it. I didn't realize it until I got home. The food was great! The samosas had great flavor! The garlic naan was AMAZING! I was a little disappointed with the roti. I was expecting something thinner and different. The roti I got seemed to be like it was plain naan. It was good but not what I was expecting. I'm not a big spicy food person; I prefer flavor over heat. I got the Chana masala in Medium and it had a good bite. It wasn't too spicy and had good flavor. The chickpeas were cooked perfectly. All in all it was a good meal! I will be returning to try more, like the goat curry, and the buffet! read more

This place is hands down the worst Indian place I've ever had. $14 for one order of tikka masala...that doesn't come with rice and is literally ALL sauce. There were maybe 6 pieces of chicken? Two people don't want to share sauce... Their samosas are tiny, and dry and have an extremely odd flavor. Their chutney is repulsive. Don't even waste your money Go to tandoori house. I had an absolutely wonderful experience here! The service was quick. The food was absolutely amazing! ( I got the chicken vindaloo. It practice melted in your mouth.) The restaurant was clean snd the tables were a reasonable distance apart considering the current pandemic. A special thanks to my server Matt. He seemed to be the only one there. Despite that, he did an especially great job being through in taking orders, checking in with folks who've received their meal, and getting everything all the food out in a timely manner. The food quality and taste are significantly better now with the new ownership. The buffet price is way more reasonable at 8.99 than the outrageous price of 12.99 from before. My only complaint is the cost of food when you purchase a la carte. I ordered a to go meal the other night of one vegetarian entree, two naans and a mango lassi... i paid $20! I suppose what was a little more annoying about the whole thing was that they had a special that night for the specific entree I ordered but it was for dine in only (entree, naan and rice for 9.95). They knew about the special and what i was ordering but they didn't bother telling me that if i dined in i could have taken advantage of the special. Also, their naans are huge now which I did not know, i probably only needed one (another thing they could have mentioned). And i am sorry but a mango lassi should never cost $4, that is just silly. In sum, because the food is good, i am giving 4 stars but there are still price and customer service adjustments that I think would make this place better. read more

Awesome Nann bread! All the dishes are really good. I notice the food on the buffet is leas spicy than if you order dishes by themselves. I really like the spinach dishes! For Vindaloo or something really spicy I do prefer Tandoori House. But Cafe India has better Nann and a wider variety. Both a are excellent restaurants for the Central Valley. read more

Decided to try it on a whim one evening. Wonderful fod and service experience. The lamb curry happens to be the evening special. I asked for the highest rated spicy scale and I was not disappointed. Just like the lamb curry I am so used to. Nand was made with a good balance of garlic, not overpowering. DF ordered the fish kebab. I ended up eating half her order :) Perhaps it is a brand new startup but ownership pride was evident. So attentive that my plate was taken away before I was done. Hahah. So far so good. I'm making Cafe India as a return visit priority. This is a very promising beginning and adds great dimension and value to downtown Visalia dining. There is a structure multilevel parking across the street from Kaweah hospital which is a short strolling block away and behind the MainStreet row of builings. I am not a big fan of buffets so I approached the one offered by this restaurant with caution. GUESS WHAT? It was FABULOUS! The food is fresh, not tired and limp. Ready to go and is as good as if you ordered it off the menu!!! Ok, those of you suffering from buffetafobia like me, this your opportunity to cure it once and for all! Although, most buffets are tired and limp and downright sad. The Bollywood music and movie are also a definite plus. Service is spot on and I wish they were in LA!!!! read more

Had the Lamb Vindaloo on rice for dinner last night, plain Naan, and the Kheer for desert. It was all very good, as was the service. I liked that they asked how spicy I wanted the vindaloo--I went medium, and the dish fit what I would describe as medium. The kheer wasn't overly sweet, which I also appreciated. My family of four enjoyed a delicious dinner here in late September 2020. The service was exceptional as we dined outdoors after a day full of Sequoia hiking. My kids devoured the garlic naan and Tandori Chicken (mild). My wife and I focused mostly on the amazing Tandori chicken (mild). We even ate every last grilled onion and pepper on the skillet. We had a great meal on the patio at cafe India. A standout dish was the boneless chicken tikka which had a great glaze and was very noisy. We also enjoyed saag paneer and excellent dal makhni. Went in for the Saturday champagne buffet. Didn't take any Champagne but enjoyed the freshly cooked hot buffet. The naan bread is made to order. The Garlic naan was good, I prefer mine fluffier, this was on the crisper side - but can't complain. Most of the dishes were of good standard. Would have liked to see better starter options. Being in the heart of Visalia's downtown open on Easter was the best restaurant we could find. The Indian restaurant sets up a Sunday brunch which includes sparking wine and assorted drinks as part of the buffet special. I would highly recommend going! Went on July 4th. Been here before and had good food, but our experience this time was a business killer. Their hours were posted on the door to be open until 3. We went in at 2:40 to a full buffet and some friendly Indian people had just arrived were helping themselves to the buffet. When we walked in the hostess announced that they closed at 2 yet she had just sat the party before us and allowed them to eat. We were hungry and everything was closed.I mentioned the sign said 3 and she had just dat others..she shrugged and She was short, insensitive and dismissive, seemed almost prejudicial.. My little family of 5 (3 littles under the of age 10) travel 45 minutes just to eat here. We always order: Chicken Biriyani Chicken Tikka Masala Chicken Tikka Garlic Naan Yum! We always tell ourselves we'll only order a couple of Naans, but it never fails- their garlic naan is just soooooo warm and delectably addicting ! My mouth is salivating just thinking about dipping it into Masala sauce haha The chicken in the biriyani is always soft and tender, almost like a chicken cube melt of goodness, hugged with the right amount of seasoned fluffy rice! The Chicken Tikka, with a squirt of lemon/lime is seriously so comforting and fresh. And well the classic Chicken Tikka Masala, is just as enjoyable! I genuinely feel as if this place has the most Authentic tasting Indian food in the area. I'm so sad to have switched over to being a vegetarian; but I know that if I pay them a visit, the flavor and love will still be there. That calls for another review, some day soon. So excited to see my favorite spot open for dine in. Due to covid there is no buffet so we ordered ala carte. The waitress was friendly but it took almost 40 minutes to get our food. We ordered the chicken masala and naan which was ok definently not worth the new higher prices. 114.00 for 5 servings of masala and 8 pie es of naan. Precovid, we would have spent less on the buffet and had all the masala and naan we could eat. We are trying to support local restaurants as they recoup from covid but considering we are also recouping too, we will not be able to afford to come back anytime soon. read more

Randomly looking for something that was open past 8pm on a Thursday night as my sis n law was in town and wanted to treat us to dinner. Found this in Yelp and boy, we hit a jewel. EVERYTHING we ate was oh so delicious and the staff was very friendly and answered questions we had on the menu. I've been here twice in a week now and still give it 5 stars. I love the variety of different Naan breads... we love the garlic one the best although we haven't tried the chicken one but I'm sure it's delish.
