Downtown Visalia, this is a hidden gem. If you crave Indian cuisine, coming here is a must. We ordered samosas, butter chicken, naan, and rice. We even ordered some drinks too. Everything from the service to the food, was delicious. My drink was called tropical jungle pina colada, ohhh my! It was a twist on a regular pina colada. Cold, sweet, fruity and down right delicious. Could I drink another one? Definitely! My husband ordered an Indian beer, similar to a regular beer and liked it. Everything is ordered a la carte, could become pricey ! This spot is a causal atmosphere!

First time visiting here, nice setting, we sat to the front with a great view of main street which makes the atmosphere that much better! Ordered butter chicken and chicken curry, with rice and garlic naan. We waited such a short time and the food came out quick and hot. Butter chicken had great buttery taste, chicken curry also tasty and not very spicy (asked for medium), garlic naan was spot on! Loved the workers, gave great recommendations, will definitely be back.

Hungry Elephant is easily one of the best Indian restaurants in town and honestly one of the best I've had anywhere. You can truly feel the pride and care that goes into this place. The owner is always there, greeting guests with a big smile, taking orders, and making everyone feel welcome. The staff is kind, attentive, and food comes out quickly and hot. The food is outstanding. The naan is perfect! Never too doughy and some of the best I've had. Their curries are rich, creamy, and full of flavor. The tikka masala is hands down one of the best I've ever had, and this visit we tried the korma for the first time and absolutely loved it. Don't skip the garlic naan or the mango lassi, both are delicious and perfectly done. We've been here multiple times and recommend it to everyone. Truly worth the visit.

Although expensive, it is worth the price. The food here is amazing and the servers are always kind and polite, helpful and attentive Best items: Bread basket- comes with: bullet naan - great spicy naan with fresh chilies on top. Sweet naan- naan stuffed with sweet tamarind, dates, nuts- very good. Garlic naan- fresh garlic pieces on soft naan Butter naan- soft, chewy, buttery delicious 7/5 Hungry elephant tandoori - at $35, it's a whooping price but the variety of meats on the sizzling plate is delectable. Of course chicken, green marinated fish, lamb. 7/5

The service was great! The waiter came to check on my friend and I frequently. It wasn't busy and it was relaxing. (Tuesday night) My favorite plates was the appetizer Samosa, it had potatoes in it. Another fave was the Curry chicken! I liked it better than the butter chicken. (Butter chicken was the bland for me) I got Kadaii Goat, it was mixed with peppers and onion. The garlic naan was delicious! They also threw in a complimentary desert :) it was carrot based with ghee and milk of some sort. Definitely coming back to try other plates :)

Again, absolutely amazing. It was super chilly in the front area because it's been chilly still outside but I love the away location and I am always impressed with their level of service, attentiveness and quality food. BEST BUTTER CHICKEN. We got spice level 6. Yum!

The most amazing Indian food I've ever had! We have been enjoying Indian cuisine for the last 25 years throughout the states and Europe, and this by far takes it! The flavors are simply perfect! We will make a point to somehow come back to Visalia for this food!

The Shrimp Curry was great. The Butter Chicken was even better! Our server Rohed (I hope I spelled this right) was super attentive, friendly, and got our order super quickly. The place is super nice with an awesome bar. Definitely coming back here!

Did order in and was quite satisfied. Their medium spice level was slightly on the hotter side. Their entrees were reasonably priced but their appetizers were on the higher end. My biggest gripe is that rice is not included with the entrees and there is a $5charge for an order of rice. But worse still is their online menu is not very clear that rice is not included and unless you read reviews you won't know to include that as a separate order. It would have been very frustrating to have curry delivered without rice to go with it. Given that in most Indian restaurants, rice is standard it's odd that it is ala carte. If you decide to dine in, it is located downtown and parking can be a bit difficult to gets depending on the day and time.

After a short hike in the sequoias, we were very excited to try this new place! It's 102° after sunset and we walked into the restaurant. It's a refrigerator inside. We were seated right away and water was brought out. After we looked through the menu, we decided on lamb vindaloo, tandoori chicken, and palak paneer. We waited for the server to come around to get our order. I went back to the car to get my jacket and look for my friend's daughter's hoodie. When I returned, no one had come to the table to get our order. We waited another 10 minutes and finally our order is taken. In addition to the entrees, we ordered 2 rice and 1 garlic naan, chutney, Sauvignon blanc, red dragon (a Shirley temple) and a mango lassi. The tandoori chicken is brought out first. It is very tender and flavorful. The lamb vindaloo is some of the best I've ever had. The palak paneer was good, but would've been better if I'd eaten that first before the palette was claimed by the other food. After eating most of the food, we waited for the check. It was nearly 9:30pm and I'm sure by that point everyone wanted to go home. We waived to the guy with the broken leg and he nodded. He didn't bring us the check, but we hoped he'd ask our server to bring it. Instead they met and were talking. We tried to get the check again. Finally, my friend calls out to them and asks for the check. We get it and we found that we were charged for 2 wines, 2 naans, 2 chutneys which added $23 to our bill. Our server came back and corrected the check, but we still had extra stuff on it, so he went back and corrected it. While we waiting, my friend's teenage daughter texted that she felt uncomfortable because a guy in the kitchen had been staring at her the whole time we were in the restaurant. Not only did he stare, but he moved to a place in the kitchen and stared more obviously than before. If you want good Indian food. This place is great. If we ever go back, we'll get take-out. We won't be dining in again.

I had one order each of the - veg pakora - Indian pickle - Mango chutney - Raita - Mixed grill - Paratha - Peshwari This place is delicious. I will say, order the mango chutney, and raita (i also ordered the indian spiced pickles). They're basically sauces to add to anything and everything (a little goes a looong way with the pickles). I also got the vegetable pakora (comes in ~6 pieces), which comes with a mini cilantro chutney and tamarind chutney. I ate that in less than 2 minutes. The mixed grill was also really good and stayed hot, as it came out on a sizzling plate. The different grilled things went well with the different chutneys and raita (the raita was not spicy and helped cut some of the spiciness in the different dishes). The paratha was also really nice and had a little chew to it. The peshwari naan is a sweet naan, i had it with some of the spicier dishes and it was delicious. It's also sweet enough to have as a "lightly sweetened dessert". One forewarning though, they'll ask how the food is once or twice, and then wont bother your table unless you make eye contact and ask/motion for something. I prefer this rather than someone constantly bothering my table.

Butter chicken medium spice, channa masala mild, aloo gobi mild, and a lamb dish medium spice

Food: 5/5 Service: 4/5 The food is amazing! I've been to this place about a handful of times now and the food is always spot on. The service has varied with each experience. I've experienced both reasonable wait times and quite lengthy wait times. I think the longest was about an hour. On one occasion, the waiter never wrote down the orders they took and then forgot to include several dishes in the order. This was the case for a few tables in our section. The people are so kind and welcoming and because of this and the delicious food, we will return!

Hariyali Tikka (Chicken) and Veg pakoras with mint sauce in the front
    Kris L.

We had a lovely meal with great service starting with four appetizers, Papadams, Samosas, Pakoras, hariyali tikka chicken along with chutney and dipping sauces and that was enough to make us full even before our main meal. All was good, though the Tikka seemed just slightly overcooked but with great flavor. For mains we had Lamb tikka Masala - very rich and creamy, and Aloo Gobi which is potato and cauliflower and was excellent and quite spicy. The menu does not have detailed descriptions, so ask your server for details about the dishes or what type of dish you are looking for and they can make a recommendation. We ended up with a lot of left overs for the next day.

My wallet cried a little bit :( It's a cute restaurant and clean! Staff was nice and I think that's a big plus! They were transparent on how long it would take for our food and being vegetarians, there wasn't much options outside so we decided to stick with this place, we ordered their Vegetable Biryani, Paneer Masala, and Garlic Naan. The vegetable biryani did not look like as picture, it was just messily thrown into the container so when I opened it - it looked like it exploded inside! it also didn't look like picture in the menu, there wasn't any veggies on top so I wonder if they just forgot or were so busy they didn't have enough ingredients to spare? Not 100% sure there. This is a big amount though - enough to feed 2 people with leftovers! Their paneer masala was SO GOOD. This was extremely flavorful! It paired nicely with the garlic naan. Especially since the garlic naan didn't taste like it was "garlicly" but I really enjoyed their paneer masala! I wished it had potatoes and that would hit the spot!

When I pick up my food, it takes 40 minutes or so for it to be ready despite the tables being empty. Although there were 4 total spice levels, they practically tasted the same. The extra spicy would be equivalent to a medium elsewhere. *Mango Lassi: yogurt heavy and the mango was very light. Sour and sweet but not as refreshing as others I've tried. *Garlic Naan: my favorite item as this bread was smothered in garlic. The naan was soft and stretchy with subtle browning. Wished each order came with more pieces but it was worth the extra 50 cents from the regular naan. *Chicken Tikka Masala: lots of tender chicken was included but I've always found a piece of gristle. The portion was decent but the sauce was incredibly bland. The flavors were muted and I craved additional spices and fragrance. Given the wait and higher prices, I didn't find the quality to be worth it. Perhaps I'll stop by for just the garlic naan but Cafe India doesn't have the depth of flavor I crave from Indian cuisine.
