I've been to Cafe J several times. For brunch and celebratory evening drinks, and it's truly never consistent. Sometimes you're waiting forever on service, sometimes it's like you're the only table they have. The food is always fine on a private restaurant level, but definitely not an upscale level. I truly am a fan of their eggs Benedict- some of the best hollandaise I've had. This last time it wasn't on the menu, however a kind was available but it was chicken fried steak and gravy I believe? No hollandaise. Which is kind of the point for me. So I got the shrimp and grits. The shrimp was great, the grits were the perfect cheesy texture for me... but they threw in a chutney. The chutney was delicious on its own, don't get me wrong. But these are two completely different highways. They didn't mesh for me at all. Shrimp and grits is down-home, southern comfort, low country, savory, rich... chutney is like abrupt sugar fruity jelly gummy what the heck are you doing in this dish...it's not entirely uncommon to see people pairing some type of chutney with this dish it just comes off a little hipster-ish. My boyfriend got some kind of typical breakfast house type breakfast- in a skillet.. I had a bite and it was normal- not bad or life changing. But the gravy on those biscuits was really good. Sunday at nanas house kind of good. I was just craving eggs benny and I truly like theirs above other places.

We loved the atmosphere and we had wonderful service. We tried both of the soup options that were offered at lunch. Their tomato soup was flavorful with a bit of a kick to it and the green chile was creamy reminded me of queso almost. Both were delicious. The burger was perfect. It was a good experience and we'd love to come back and try more!

While sitting in the Walmart parking lot researching places near where I'm staying for work in Lubbock, I came across The Funky Door Bistro Wine Room. I'm so glad I did. When I pulled up, I appreciated the ample parking and immediately noticed the unique wine‑glass door handles--such a fun touch. Inside, the décor is warm and inviting with wood accents, dim lighting, and a beautiful display of wines. The upstairs seating overlooking the main floor adds to the charm. The service was excellent from start to finish. I ordered a grapefruit mimosa and an egg‑white omelet with avocado, feta, spinach, and breakfast potatoes with caramelized onions and peppers. I was charged extra for egg whites, but it was absolutely worth it. Everything was flavorful and cooked perfectly. From the hostess to the server, the service and timing were spot‑on. I truly enjoyed my brunch at The Funky Door. Thank you for a great experience.

Menu prices incorrect on wine, and about $100 more than cost. Kids meals came with a drink according to the kids menu, but we were charged $3 per drink. Extra bread for fondu was $5. And to top it off a 3.5% credit card fee!

I often times find myself here when I'm craving a hookah or just want an incredible shawarma, burger, or fried chicken sandwich. I will admit, if you are ordering food the service is a little bit slow so come when you have around some extra free time but the ambience totally makes up for it. It's a very chill place where you can come to study, relax, or just hang with friends. Adam and Mo are genuinely some of the nicest people I have ever met and have helped me through many issues. They care about building a relationship with the customer and not only for specific people but for everybody. The hookah flavors are pretty good as well and the hookahs last a few hours. They also have specials mainly with Indian breakfast cuisine and African lunch cuisine. The gizzard, Jollof rice, and chicken drumstick are incredible and I definitely recommend asking about it when ordering. I prefer this place over Vizos not only for the service but I believe the food is better too. Next time you are in Lubbock I highly recommend you stop by the fantastic establishment.

This place has the best and most authentic shawarma in lubbock, if you have never had it I would definitely recomend going. The place is a bar so as far as ambiance and everything goes expect it to be a normal college bar, not a restaurant. Service is a little slow but very nice and I would say once you have tried the food nothing else matters.
