This place had been on my list to try for awhile. However, this place is a grab and go place and does not offer any seating. Service was super friendly and they had my coffee poured even before I finished paying. They seemed to have regular customers that they greeted by name. I was in Hinsdale with my daughter at My Sister Kate and thought we'd get a hot chocolate before leaving. This is a very tiny coffee shop and for those of you not terribly familiar with Hinsdale (myself amongst them) the place looks like it's in an alley but it's not; you're turning down the right street. There are a few parking spots down here so that makes it convenient. The shop has a good drink menu and also has donuts/muffins/sandwiches. I had a breakfast panini and I liked it. I wasn't sure what I'd think since I am always a bit on the fence about avocado, but wanted to try it without modifications. I liked the black beans on it more than I expected to. Overall it's an ok spot but the drinks are better than the food options. The owner has a great handle on her regulars; she was greeting folks as they came in and remembered the coffee order of a woman who hasn't been in for a while because she remarked on how surprised she was that she remembered her usual. There's no seating in the cafe, it's strictly a grab-and-go place. But they have an app of their own that you can use to order, and based upon what the owner was telling a customer, it generally works better than using the Toast app. read more

I'm kinda mad at myself because I opted for the Starbucks in the morning, hit lunch, and then decided to shake things up a bit by checking out this place in the afternoon. I could have parked myself here instead and try a variety of things to get me through file reading. I am a HUGE fan of Mexican mochas or Mexican hot chocolates when done right. Here, it's done right. Excellent customer service from the moment we walked in. There were 2 people working which makes things quicker and I like that. The store itself is small with not too much seating. We ordered the Mayan coffee and an iced caramel latte. They were both outstanding. Even better yet, they both were able to be made as decaf. It doesn't have that burnt coffee bean taste. And my americano was made in under a minute. Their bakery goods were nice, too. An Institution for coffee lovers and enthusiasts. They are masters at their craft with the most professional customer service. This particular location is warm and welcoming. Tables and chairs are comfortable and easily arranged. I adore this little hidden coffee spot. It is so hard to find any sort of Mexican coffee/cafe de olla in the suburbs. Making the drive here (and even the subsequent parking tickets - thanks, Hinsdale!) was worth it because my drink was so good. I love a mix of espresso, chocolate, cinnamon and spice. And they have multiple drink options here that will satisfy all of those flavors! The staff (I think a mother and daughter maybe?) were both very friendly. It's a great place to pick up a crafted coffee drink and then walk around the beautiful neighborhood. I'm looking forward to coming back! But next time I won't stay parked for more than two hours haha! That turned out to be a very pricey, but delicious, coffee after all! read more

Amen to all yelpers who have forsaken the S*arb*cks and embraced the local business. As a true Chicagoan, I've been practicing this principle for some time now and haven't never looked back to all these major corporations that are trying to brainwash their consumers. I promised hubby the night before to have breakfast in the morning before he started his shift. However, I was enticed by the Japanese drama, watching it insanely, and didn't go to sleep until "early in the morning." Thus, I suggested that we used yelp as our trusty tool to develop a Plan B since I woke up a bit too late. We discovered Cafe La Fortuna today in downtown Hinsdale on the way to Joliet. What a lovely neighborhood coffee shop! Most importantly, they serve quality Mexican-style coffee. I had the large red eye, and hubby went with a large latte. The barista, who was full of energy, welcomed us with a spunk when we walked in. The conversations between patrons and the barista were pretty fun to eavesdrop (well, we were actually invited to the conversations because they were just as friendly as human beings can be). We are the city dwellers, but we probably will try to make it to the area during summer time since there's a disc golf course nearby. In addition, I believe the Metra BNSF comes through and the weekend Metra pass per adult is $7! Do I have an excuse to come back? I certainly think so. The barista also handed us a coffee punch card. Although the entire venue is fairly tiny, the small space is conducive for striking conversations and dialogues between people. Feeling anti-social? Then overcome this inhibition by stepping into Cafe La Fortuna. There's no single "shy" person in the house. read more
