Cafe Lombardy is located in the Hotel Lombardy, which is where I was staying for two nights recently. As part of my stay, I did the complimentary breakfast package. In most hotels that I have stayed, usually that means buffet-style. That wasn't the case here where you had to make a selection from the menu. For the price, the selection to choose is ok but nothing to write home about. Especially when you have Western Market across the street, there isn't much incentive to dine there unless you are low on mobility and options. Additionally, if you are doing the complimentary breakfast package, you only have one option which is the standard that comes with two eggs any style, choice of meat, toast, and potatoes. While the eggs were good and the bacon was ok, the potatoes looked unappetizing and there was no butter, jam, or spread for the toast unless you like it dry. The service wasn't great to top it off. The server who did the order was detached, disinterested, and didn't speak English well. The food came fairly quickly at least but didn't come around the check in on me. Because I had done the complimentary breakfast package, it was already paid for, but it would have been nice to have either the server or someone else that was staff for the restaurant come by to ask if I needed anything else. But I saw no one else after getting my food. It was disappointing to the point I didn't use my other voucher the last morning of my stay. read more

I stayed at Hotel Lombardy recently. The staff were friendly and polite in the hotel and that extended to the restaurant too. Mohammed who is part of the wait staff there is the sweetest person I've met in a while. He is very well spoken, put together and pays attention to detail. I just had a pot of tea there but I felt very much cared for. It's a cute little restaurant with an old school charm. Love it. I don't usually leave comments but this place is a true gem!!!! We live in the hotel and arrived about 9pm so don't want to go somewhere else. And this is truly beyond my expectations! The food is very tasty, especially the scallops!!! The best scallops I've ever eaten! The atmosphere is soooo relaxing with the Jazz/blue background and lovely lights. The price is very reasonable even cheap with the quality and quantity of food we receive. Better than $100/person restaurants I had in Boston. The service is also very good! So we had Christmas dinner here lat night since we are staying at the hotel. My wife and I had dinner here recently and had excellent meals. We can recommend both the salmon salade Niçoise and the chicken Cobb salad. The dry French rosé was also excellent and the complimentary bread basket was fresh, warm and delicious also. The dining room faces the street and has a nice clean ambiance. Went to the restaurant both for breakfast and dinner while staying at the Lombardy Hotel. This is a modest size cafe that is on the ground floor of the hotel. It has about 40 seats. The cafe is a bit dated in appearance and very cozy. The service is attentive. For breakfast they have a great selection of dishes but no buffet. I tried their Lombardy breakfast which is two eggs any style with sausage/bacon, and toast. Very tasty and at a very reasonable price. For dinner I had their salmon. It was very tasty, cooked to order and with a good selection of vegetables as a side. I had it with a glass of their Chardonnay - a great match. The service is at a good pace. There are remarkably few people here for a dinners, especially give this is a few blocks from the White House, the Mall and George Washington University Campus. Cafe Lombardy was a delight from start to finish. It was a very quiet evening at the establishment and the quiet wonderful music they were playing brought memories for both my wife and me. Our food choices beginning with the luscious Caesar salad to her thick cut pork chop and my chicken bolognese were all superb. The service was very professional and attentive. It was a convenient walk from our hotel and the beautiful evening made it even better. We highly recommend Cafe Lombardy. Picture diffused sunlight, crisp white linen tablecloths, soft banquettes and impeccable service even though you're four sweaty people in shorts & shirts who clearly just unpacked boxes, and you've got the right place. The teens got crab cakes, which were full of meat with good flavoring. Those were magic crab cakes because they disappeared in the blink of a hungry teen's eye. I got the steak, which was perfect, and the Reverend got the pork chop, also done perfectly. Top it off with a delicious creme brûlée for me and we were happy and full. It's beautiful, it's quiet, the food is excellent and the service beyond impeccable. What a lovely experience after a very long day. We can't wait to go back. read more

I can't believe that I've worked down the street from this hotel and cafe for years and not known it was here. It's a great, brightly lit, spot that is ideal for meeting a friend or work contact for lunch. The cafe is sparsely decorated, but still has white tablecloths, friendly service, and a limited but good menu. Both times I've come, I've had the soba noodle salad with seared salmon on top, which runs about $25 or so, but is enough for me for two lunches. The salmon is perfectly cooked, the soba noodles quite flavorful, also served with black beans, sliced peppers, and other veggies. It isn't too crowded so it's pretty easy to sneak in right at noon with a small table. I'll definitely be back! read more

We were seeking a place to have brunch while in DC and we chanced upon this spot on Yelp so we decided to take the plunge and head over the next day without reservations. Located inside quaint Hotel Lombardy (near the White House), we walked in and the restaurant is right in front of you on the right hand side past the main door entrance and lobby area. When you check-in with the hostess at the counter area, you never really know what to expect for the restaurant decor at times so I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the natural lighted bright room with its crisp white table lines and limited seating. Definitely reminded me of a quaint breakfast cafe area at a little cute B&B area in the French countryside. We got seated against the wall and started to go over the menu. We all decided to go with the special of the day which happened to be pasta and scallops which isn't exactly breakfast but we all felt like pasta and scallops that day (haha). I also ordered a side of caesar salad as well (gotta remember to eat your veggies right?!). The customer service here is really awesome. The hostess to our waiter were nothing but very nice and attentive to us the entire time. Our drinks were consistently refilled without us having to ask which was nice. We got started on our appetizer bread which consisted of unsalted butter and a slice of bread with your choice of olives, multigrain or sourdough (sourdough was good!). Caesar salad was just okay IMO. As for the special of the day, I felt like that the scallops was good and nicely sautéed, but the pasta sauce just tasted like plain tomato sauce to me. I mean, the meal overall was good, don't get me wrong; it just like I felt I was ultimately eating scallops with spaghetti. Pretty good restaurant by hotel standards. As a local, I have taken out-of-town friends to this place even though it is a "hotel restaurant." Their shrimp is great. We also hosted a catered dinner in one of their beautiful private dining rooms. Quiet. Fast and courteous service. Wine included. Reasonable price (package). I just love cafe Lombardy. I've been five times in three years, with a year being the greatest time between two visits. The waiter/maître d welcomed me back by name! After a year! Even better, he remembered what I ordered, down to the Malbec that I polished off on my first visit. This type of service is unheard of in DC for us regular citizens ;). On top of the fantastic service, the food is excellent. Always made with the freshest ingredients and it shows. The steak with chimichurri is excellent, as is the chicken. The setting is quiet and intimate, and wonderful for small dinner outings. While this maybe overlooked for the cutting edge Founding Farmers down the block, Cafe Lombardy is wonderful little restaurant with top notch food. And the service is impeccable. There is a bar in the hotel Lombardy where after dinner drinks are served. It is a must! Dark wood panelling and deep leather armchairs make it a classy and warm place to relax from the hustle and bustle of DC. read more

Even though we went at 9am, and they open at 7, the dining room wasn't prepared to wait on customers and tables were not set. The waiters decided to do some takeout orders rather than taking drink orders or providing coffee, which set the tone for the breakfast. Pancakes were acceptable and bacon portion was generous and well cooked. Lombardy breakfast was cooked well, sausage was very good, but overall nothing spectacular. Prices are high for relatively simple fair ($4 for a small glad of OJ!) and gratuity is included automatically, which was certainly not appreciated with the poor service. A great little spot inside the historic Hotel Lombardy. The food is excellent - especially by hotel food standards. I ate there twice for dinner and found everything I tried delicious. The dinner menu is small: your standard catch of the day, pasta of the day, an assortment of suops and salad, steak and chicken. And of course, crab cakes because this is the East coast. The service is first class: attentive but not hovery. The ambiance is quiet and reserved. A great spot if you're looking for a quiet dinner by your self with plenty of windows to people watch while you eat. This review is all about the crab cakes. On a recent trip to DC, I had them twice, and they are simply superb. So how do I know? Because between the two visits, we spent four days on Maryland's Eastern Shore and had crab cakes every day at all of the recommended restaurants along the Chesapeake Bay. None of them was as good as the ones at the Café Lombardi. Not even close. In addition, I completely agree with some of the other reviewers about the location. It is a charming room, full of sunshine at lunch. The service was very attentive and helpful, and because of the relatively small size of the room, it felt like an intimate French café rather than barn like hotel restaurant. I highly recommend Café Lombardi, and if you go and have the crab cakes, you will be very happy. read more

I didn't even know this place was there - but a coworker & I had put off going to lunch forever and she suggested it. I'm glad she did. A quaintly intimate dining room in bright colors made it feel like spring had already arrived. The food was good. I had the chicken "stuffed" with mozzarella. It wasn't stuffed. The chicken just kind of sat on melted mozzarella. It was still very good, though. I was less impressed with very slow service and not being presented with a wine list.
