Had a business lunch today with someone who is a regular at Cafe Manna! She is definitely onto something as it was an enjoyable meal. Partially because of her regularity, but I imagine in general, my colleague and I had fantastic service. The waitress provided samples of beverages and gave very attentive service. I sampled and then got the limonada drink, as well as the peace bowl with tempeh and a chocolate chip cookie tort for a take-home dessert! The beverage and meal tasted extremely healthy and local. Fantastic flavor and textures in the peace bowl. I am not a vegetarian and not a frequent tempeh consumer, but it was done right in this dish. Limonada was more of a "green juice" but was satisfying. Maybe could have been more chilled or on ice. My colleague suggested hearing the desserts and we both took items to go. My tort sat in the car for about six hours after lunch as we had an event, but it seemed to hold up. The first bite was tasty - nothing out of this world, but good. We have been coming here for several years now. Being a pescatarian, 95% of my diet is vegetarian, so only natural to eat at a vegetarian restaurant. Cafe Manna fit the bill in so many ways. The menu is extensive. From soups to appetizers, sandwiches and full course meals, plus well crafted desserts. They always start you with a homemade hummus and crackers. It is a great way to get the palate warmed up. Today, I was in the mood for a solid sandwich, so tempeh Ruben sounded wonderful. I wasn't let down in any way. The sandwich was great. The bread was toasted perfect and the sandwich had great flavor with sauerkraut,cheese and dressing. The plate came a small salad and homemade pickle wedges. That alone would have made a great lunch in a bigger portion. My friend had the Thai wraps. They were very fresh and the veggies were crisp. It was a little messy to eat but the flavors and dipping sauce were very tasty. Only thing holding back the 5 star would be the size. It is a tight space. It is very modern and well kept, service is prompt but it can get tight. It sometimes feels like you are sharing your conversation with those around you. I am 100% a meat eater! So I was super fussy when a friend recommended a vegetarian restaurant! I was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere and very friendly staff! Because I'm currently watching carbs I elected to go with a side salad and Brussel sprouts for a quick lunch. YUMMY!!!! My super supportive friend ended his meal with a giant slice of carrot cake! Which I admit, I tried, and OMG! DELICIOUS! I highly recommend! This is a vegan spot in a nice strip center in Brookfield. Menu consists of soups, salads, sandwiches and hot entrees such as Pad Thai. We got 2 different salads and the limonade (not lemonade). It had kale and hence the green color. As others have mentioned, it looks weird but tastes great! Our salads were delicious- light, refreshing, very fresh! The quality and taste of the food barely seemed worth the price. I ordered the BBQ seitan sandwich and asked for extra seitan, which I was promptly denied because "that's the protein of the dish".. exactly... that's why I was hoping to pay for a bit extra. The sandwich was pretty good but barely had any seitan on it and the other toppings were lacking as well. For $16 I was hoping it would be loaded but instead it came with the amount of ingredients that you'd get in a Starbucks sandwich. Also the key lime pie had a really strange consistency and was pretty skimpy for $8. I loved the lentil soup and my roommates cauliflower Buffalo wrap was great! Stopped by on a Saturday evening. Staff very friendly. Place was very clean and nice. We ordered the veggie quesadilla (super good, would def order again), the potato skins (good, ate them all, but not our fav), and the lentil soup (very yummy). My wife and I had a GREAT experience at Cafe Manna. We ordered a ton of food, so I'll just tough on our favorites. The crabcakes were excellent, but the Portobello Sandwhich (with its au jus for dipping) was out of this world! The horseradish sauce was a brilliant touch. We also enjoyed the (hazelnut?) cake. Oh, and I personally adore that the restaurant gives you hummus and crackers to start. Thank you! I had mix feelings for my first visit here. I ordered the raw thai rolls and it was a okay for me. The sauce was great and the idea is good but I feel like it could have just been made as a salad so it's easier to eat instead of making a mess. The crackers came as appetizer was delicious with the cashew spread. My mom ordered the peace bowl and that tasted great with the curry. The vegan pho my sister ordered was a little bland. I've been here 2 times so far and plan on being back for MANY MORE!!! How refreshing it is to have multiple vegan vegetarian options that can be made gluten free and or dairy free. Their limeade is AAAAAHHHHHHmazing and so bright refreshing and entirely thirst quenching! I've enjoyed sampled the Peace bowl.. which is curry filled goodness serve on top of a bed of quinoa and rice. So nice! I loved the Asian lettuce wraps and would highly recommend them, and truthfully I'm not a big tofu fan. But what the chef did was totally on point. I ordered the chilaquiles with no cheese and the home made chips and perfectly seasoned lentils were enjoy to experience together. Serious goodness!! I also have had the barbaco bowl made with jackfruit. What was crazy is the jackfruit looked like tuna! I've not seen jackfruit look that way. The bed of greens everything was on was super fresh and crisp. Fun note: they always bring citrus water for you to enjoy while you are perusing the menu. I have not delved into their epic desserts menu because I haven't managed to save room. But I can say their key lime pie is on my list to try and so is the carrot cake . Since my last review a few years ago, this place has gotten even better! More vegan options than before (thank you!) and new menu items that even my meat-eating friends thought were delicious. The Peace Bowl was wonderful, so much food in it I had to take half home. Very filling, super delicious, I loved every bite. Excellent service, friendly staff, pricing is now in line with other establishments, so I have nothing but good things to say about Cafe Manna, except I wish they had even more vegan things! Every meal is a treat! We have used their carry out service during the last year for lunch or dinner and have treated ourselves to their holiday specials for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Valentine's Day. My husband and I marvel at what the chef prepares. The Christmas beet Wellington and the Valentine carrot osso buco were particular standouts. Recently had the Philly cheese steak sandwich made with jackfruit. It could not have been better. We feel very fortunate to have access to such a high quality vegetarian/vegan dining experience! I have been wanting to try Cafe Mana for some time and managed to rope some vegan friends into joining us for the experience. I have to say, it was a great time from the very moment we walked through the door. Our night started out with a bit of chaos, so both my husband and I as well as our friends all arrived 15 minutes+ late to our reservation. The hostess was very understanding and even called me to check if we still planned to come in. They kindly held our table as we trickled in with our apologies ready. We were all new to the Cafe Mana experience, so our server gave us a great run down on the menu and gave us plenty of patience to choose from all of the amazing selections. She was quick to deliver drinks and any little extras that we needed. I have to applaud them for their selection of Rishi tea. Hands down, it is the best bagged tea available in Milwaukee. Our server even brought me an extra cup to discard my tea bag, which I've never seen. Only a serious tea drinker knows that awkwardness of leaving a wet, soggy tea bag sitting on a napkin or table. We started the eating adventure with the potato skins and raw nachos. I was HIGHLY skeptical about eating dehydrated corn chips, but they were seriously delicious! Another bonus was the lack of grease in the dish. Towards the end of the nachos, things got a little soggy, but that is 100% to be expected with any type of chip, especially when you have a party of folks doing more talking than eating. The potato skins were also really legit. They had a mountain high pile of guac on top, making them both filling and a real bargain considering the cost of avocados. Our entree selection included the peace bowl, burrito bowl, and black bean burger. All were utterly fantastic. The jack fruit "meat" looked pretty convincingly meaty and the peace bowl was a beautiful balance of slightly spicy, but creamy curry. My black bean burger had a good kick and the spicy vegan mayo that came with it was good enough to eat with a spoon! The only true disappointment was the sweet potato fries, which were not roasted as advertised. They tasted great, but were soggy and soft. (Note: If the chef needs some tips, I have a few in my back pocket for making baked SP fries crispy!) We were all too full for dessert, but the plates we saw going by looked great! We will definitely be taking many, many more trips back! This is a place that could please even the truest meat and potatoes man and vegans alike. read more

I have tried Cafe Manna about 4-5 times. I was always underwhelmed. I recently had food delivered via Door Dash from Cafe Manna. I decided to try this restaurant again, after several years, due to the many positive reviews. Unfortunately, my impression & experience is unchanged. To put it bluntly, the food is very blah. I am a vegan & have eaten at many vegan restaurants in Milwaukee & beyond. This place gives vegan food a bad rep! I ordered the raw nachos. I took a few bites & threw them out. The chips were soggy (in all fairness, the delivery may have played into the sogginess). The dips/sauces in the nachos lacked flavor. I ordered a piece of vegan cheesecake. Im not even sure I got the correct item as what I received didn't really resemble cheesecake. I would give this dessert, whatever it was, a 4/10, at best. For $10/slice they under delivered. Big time. Lastly, I ordered a Limeade, which actually was exceptional. So for $42 I drank a limeade & a few bites of cheesecake. What a total waste of money & food! I am hesitant to post a bad review & overall feel the vegan scene is fragile in Milwaukee/burbs. I sent an email to this restaurant hoping they would at least acknowledge my experience. They didnt respond. So I have decided to post in hopes that others will SAVE THEIR MONEY & go to one of the other vegan/veg/health restaurants that Milwaukee offers. read more

I'm a vegetarian and I was really looking forward to trying this place for the first time. I was really disappointed. In fact my whole group of friends I ate with were also disappointed. They found most of their food to be bland and there was no salt and pepper on the table. The staff were friendly and very pleasant. We waited about ten minutes for them to bring water to everyone. We waited about fifteen minutes with menus closed for them to take our order. It was a busy Saturday evening, but still. My husband and friends were really disappointing that they had no beer that night as they were "having trouble with their supplier." Seriously? No beer? Run to the grocery store and get something then! You can get microbrews almost anyplace in the area. I split a cheese plate with my husband and it was good but I don't think you can go very wrong with cheese in Wisconsin. It came with a watery, bland tomato sauce on the side, a citrus yogurt that was good, and a blueberry compote that was good. I got the Savory Sandwich but felt it was pretty bland. I picked all of the eggplant off because it was unpleasantly chewy and had no flavor. For dessert I tried the Sunshine Torte and it was okay. I thought the size of the cake was ridiculously huge. I would have preferred a smaller slice and a lower price (it was $9). I thought the prices were pretty expensive. I do realize that organic foods are a lot more pricey and I'd pay for that quality if it had flavor. If someone was thinking of going here I'd direct them to Beans and Barley instead. It's not 100% vegetarian but all of their selections are delicious, the service is great, and the prices are cheap. read more

This place is amazing!!! So many good things to choose from... sandwhiches, salads, soups, unique entrees and wonderful looking desserts! My friend who is not a vegetarian loves the flafel sandwich. Looks great. Another meat eater in my group went w/the baked potato, can't go wrong! I wend w/the sesame tofu w/sundried tomato/asparagus risotto. The presenation of all the plates was very beautiful. So fancy for this cute little cafe! Great selection of teas and juices too. Even the water was outstanding. It was a citrus water (was infused w/lemons and oranges the waitress told us!). Service was very slow.... it was crowed and they were a bit confused (bringing us things that were not ours) but we were in no hurry and this food was worth the wait! Location is a bit far, wish this was in the city! It's way out there in the Sendik's plaza on Brookfield/Capitol Drive. But that Sendik's is the best is town so it's worth the trip, to visit both! This is an absolutely fabulous all-vegetarian restaurant with many vegan, gluten-free, and raw options, all of which are marked on the menu. I asked about soy-free options and was given a marked copy of the menu delineating what was and was not safe for me and our waitress was extremely good with questions. Further, it was easy to get a meal that was vegan and gluten-free, and while eliminating soy cut our options it wasn't a big deal. If you need to avoid soy and gluten, be aware that the gluten-free crackers have soy in them and ask for veggies. We had the guacamole potato skins, the raw tacos, and three kinds of tea. The guacamole here is exceptional and the ancho cashew sour cream is well made. The raw tacos were even better, balanced nicely with the salad, more guacamole, and some chips. The tacos come with a lovely sauce on the side that isn't listed on the menu made with cilantro, lime, and an olive oil infused with hot peppers. The food was surprisingly filling without being sedating in the manner typical of raw food. For tea, we had two kinds of chai and then a very pleasant earl grey. The only downside to Cafe Manna is the location in an upscale strip mall in Brookfield, not the quickest drive from Milwaukee proper but certainly worth an occasional trip. read more

This was our first dining out experience since covid and it was great! Service super friendly, reasonably speedy & every dish delicious. Portions are also very generous- you get your money's worth. It's a robust menu with lots of choices. My mom and sister are vegan/gluten free so this was a real treat. The loaded baked potatoes are each a half potato with guacamole on it -no joke proportions with nice soft creamy texture. I was expecting crispier but I thought this worked. We got the arugula beet salad with beets roasted to perfection and the veggie quesadillas were rich and cheesy. Even the desserts were spot on with just the- right-amount-of-tart key lime pie, decadent chocolate truffles and my partner and I had the chocolate chip torte. While it was a bit of a drive from the Wauwatosa/Milwaukee area, the ability to enjoy such a diverse menu was well worth it. The interior is open and clean. The service was prompt and friendly, although we went during non-peak hours. Our waitress was always willing to give us valuable suggestions and catered to our needs constantly [which primarily was making the food spicy, with a variety of options/methods]. We were even given a sample of crackers and cashew-based hummus, which was all made in-house. I ordered the Café Manna burger. This burger consisted of a Jamaican jerk lentil patty along with spiced aioli and some basic vegetables. While the ingredients were no doubt fresh and of optimal quality, the flavor was overall lacking. Despite adding avocado and jalapeño, there was not much zing to the flavor profile. These add-ons were rather pricy; the avocado was $1.5 as was a slice of cheese. My friend ordered a noodle soup, which was enormous! Because this restaurant is located in an affluent area, the prices are a bit on the higher end. I look forward to re-visiting to explore the menu further. The restaurant does offer cooking classes and other events that I hope to explore as well. read more

I have only been here once. I mostly eat vegetarian for the year yet go straight vegan for the month of March (don't ask why...I just started it one March and have made it an annual thing). I stopped by here with the girlfriend the other week. When you walk in you are greeted and promptly seated. The place is in a strip mall (albeit, a really nice strip mall) yet when you walk in you loose that sense of a strip mall. You do have to ask for water if you would like. I started off with a Green juice (which was $8, ouch!) yet it was good. The service was slow and seemed like the waitress was a bit overwhelmed with the few tables that were in there. We then proceeded to get the nachos that came out looking like a science experiment gone wrong. They had good flavor yet the eye appeal wasn't there at all - the sauces and other toppings were piped on there and still in their solid tube format. We also got the soup of the day, which was very good. Overall, slower service and decent food. If you're nearby and need a vegetarian option stop by here yet nothing to go out of the way for. read more

Tried out Cafe Manna after years of wanting to go. We ordered the supreme pizza, Mediterranean plate, burrito bowl, and peace bowl. The pizza and peace bowl were pretty good and if I return I will definitely order one of those items. I didn't like the like dressing on the burrito bowl so if you're not into that I would advise to get it on the side! It was cool however to try the jackfruit. The med plate I did not try though it seemed very underwhelming. As for apps, the chili was very delicious, it may have been just a special though. I thought the complementary hummus wasn't good. Hummus is already vegetarian/ vegan so I'm not sure what went wrong there. It was very dry and lacked flavor. We did not try dessert but I have heard good things about it and would like to try the churros:) Overall I think this place is mildly overpriced (Spent ~100$). Maybe the cost of food is very expensive for their items, I just don't know if I can justify spending that much that often. What a wonderful surprise this restaurant turned out to be! It's a vegetarian and vegan restaurant, but it is also top tier in terms of technique, execution, and flavor. Every dish I had was created with a thoughtful vision, and a balanced hand. Each ingredient is purposeful, nothing superfluous. The exterior says strip mall, as it IS in a strip mall, but once inside, it's clearly casual elegance. After our server told us the specials, we were brought complimentary hummus and crackers which were tasty. My husband started with a comforting and flavorful bowl of house lentil soup which was very good, as was my veggie chili cup. From the menu description, it was clear to me that I would HAVE TO order the basil mushroom radiatori. It had everything I love: sautéed shallots and mushrooms tossed in cashew cauliflower basil sauce with radiatori pasta and truffle oil, topped with bell peppers, vegan walnut parmesan and fried basil leaves. It was perfect and delicious-- and a surprisingly ample portion. Of course after the hummus app, cup of soup, I barely made a dent in my entree, but it was so good, creamy and flavorful. Pro tip: if you take home leftovers, ask them for an extra side of the walnut Parmesan to top with at home. So yummy! My husband ordered one of their specials, a Mediterranean or curry spiced lentil/veggie burger. He loved the flavors! If he could, he'd prefer it to be a little firmer texture, but he loved the entree, including his side salad with avocado ranch. The restaurant felt intimate and elegant and so clean. When I used the restroom, I felt like I entered a spa- something to do with the lighting, decor, and music; super relaxing vibe. I almost ordered a massage. Haha Our server was excellent! She knew all the answers to my typically high maintenance questions, was friendly and always accessible, and very accommodating. I loved this restaurant. Our expectation was that it might be a little hippie-ish (which I was cool with), or divey with grimy surfaces. I don't know why I thought that; I guess past experiences elsewhere. We also expected the food to be hit or miss, but it was all hits! I guess I should have researched better, because it was just the opposite of all my expectations. Had I done that, I would have learned of its award winning status and highly revered reputation. You don't have to be vegetarian or vegan to enjoy this restaurant--just ask my husband, the carnivore! There is something for most people to thoroughly enjoy. Cafe Manna is an excellent choice for a first date or date night, or girls night, Mother's Day, and more. You can really spend quality time here; its quiet with few distractions, so friends and family can really engage with one another. A wonderful choice all around! P.S. I am and (probably) always will be a meat eater, but if every meal tastes like the one I just had at Cafe Manna I'd gladly become a vegetarian. My friend and I both started our meals out with tea. We got the Coconut Chai and the Rose Peppermint. Both were phenomenal and oh so flavorful. The Chai had a great spice to it and the Peppermint one was velvety and refreshing. We enjoyed the complimentary rice crackers and hummus and for my main meal I got their sandwich special of the week which was the Manna's Lentil Burger. This "burger" was incredible. It was a Jamaican jerk lentil burger topped with spiced aioli, tender greens, red onion and fresh tomato on a toasted whole wheat bun. The bun reminded me of a butter burger bun. Amazing food for being a vegetarian resturant!! Café Manna is 100% vegetarian and offers many Gluten-Free and Vegan options (they are also the only "Green" restaurant I have ever been to). I'm definitely an omnivore, but am not afraid to try new, different foods. And I am sure glad I did! First, making reservations at Café Manna is incredibly easy using their OpenTable website. I loved that service because I hate talking on the phone. Of course, reservations for a Thursday evening were not necessary but it gave me peace of mind there would be a table for my family's dinner. I also apperciated the menu on their website, so I could research the food prior to visiting the resturant. They start you off with a coconut hummus and cracker platter - super delicious! I had the Limonade drink, it tasted great and re-energized me, and the Tu-No Melt sandwich, which is hard to describe because it did not taste like the "healthy" and "green" sandwich that it was. Upon the first bite, it sent my tastebuds into a state of joyful bliss. It was pretty messy to eat, but it was totally worth it. The sandwich also came with a side of fresh fruit. My mom had the Margherita Pizza, which is very cheesy and super good. Word of advice for those who are not a fan of onions, be sure to ask for "no onions" because they put a pile of raw onions in the middle of the pizza. My grandma and sister both had the beet salad, which I couldn't bring myself to try as I despise beets. They said it was very good, with a light dressing. The salads were very large portions. I will definitely be visiting Café Manna again in the near future to try more of their unique food creations. read more
