It's a great, small spot to sit, drink espresso, and pretend you're in Italy. The Tuscan theme pairs well with its outside seating, and the service was polite and friendly. Highly recommend for the old souls who still appreciate the act of sitting to enjoy a coffee, as well as those in a rush and bored of whatever they usually get at the Starbucks down the road. I went here on a Sunday morning. It's a relatively small place, a corridor with about 5-6 tables. You're always within earshot of all of them. There is a cabinet with exotic looking wine on one end and the barista/cash counter on the other. There are a few snacks available as well, but the coffee is of course the main attraction. I thought I knew something about the espresso coffee variants, but I found myself stumped by the names of the drinks on there, and put on the spot, I went for the usual latte. Next time I will do more research beforehand and definitely pick one of the more exotic drinks. The coffee tasted great! Give it a try if you are looking for something different. read more

Decided to get a cold brew on nitro and my mind is blown. Leaps and bounds better then any cold brew I have ever had. I updated my review to a five star from a four star. Finally decided to stop by today on my day off for my birthday. It was filled with regulars and everyone knew each other's names. My kinda place! My goal now is to be a regular. They had a few pastry samples on the counter and the menu was super clean cut and modern. Descriptions of each drink all with illy coffee. Got a cafe latte to go since I never know if my little one will decide to suddenly freak out on me. My little guy got obsessed with the peanut butter cookie samples and the barista said it was the last one and packed the rest of the samples in a bag for me. So nice! Yes this is a tiny cafe but who can say no to Illy coffee?? I fell in love with Illy coffee in Paris. It has a very unique strong aroma that no other coffee has yet able to beat. So I was super excited when I found that unique logo on the side of the street when I drove by Boones Ferry road. The decor inside is nice. Not overwhelming but cozy. I'm at Cafe Marzocca. It's around the corner and just down Boones Ferry a little way from the studio where the kids take piano lessons. The Boy has an hour lesson after the Girl has her half hour, so when the Girl is done, we sneak out and try to find someplace more comfortable and/or interesting to hang out for an hour. Preferably someplace that has coffee. I've been looking for a nice coffee shop in the area for some time and not sure why I hadn't seen this one in my searches before. It seems to be a coffee and wine shop, my favorite thing. Or two of my favorite things. There is a whole wall of wine bottles just as you walk in and approach the counter. I don't know when they pour the wine, I haven't gotten that far with them. On Saturday afternoon, besides the young girl behind the counter, there's just one woman and an old man here. They're not together. The old man is sitting at the window working on a crossword puzzle. He's wearing a baseball cap and a plaid shirt. He has glasses and a beard. He looks up from the crossword every once in awhile and glances out the window casually. Almost a little too casually, as if he's trying to be discreet, so no one will know he's keeping an eye on something out there. I wonder if he's a private investigator, digging into some of the dirt that surely goes around a place like Lake Oswego where old money is mixing with the new money and stirring up currents most of us have no idea exist. I wonder if that's a camera in his bag. I wonder if he's monitoring who's coming and going from the Pub across the street, the surreptitious rendezvous that must go on in a town like this. But I don't know, I'm not really from around here. The woman is at the next table between us and the old PI. There's a copy of the New York Times in front of her, unopened, but she doesn't touch it, just stares at her phone and flicks at the screen with her finger. Gordon Lightfoot comes over the audio system. He's followed by Chicago, Jim Croce, and Hall & Oats. That's ok. Especially if you're a '70s through back. A young guy steps in and just wants his travel mug filled with drip coffees. He leaves. Then the young woman gets up to go, and an older couple steps in with their dog as she's stepping out. The dog is some kind of medium-sized poodle mix that tries to jump up on the Girl. No big deal, we have dogs, we know how that goes. There's a large plastic jar of treats by the door and the man gets it and puts a few down for the dog. The mocha I have is the great. It's coffee with the flavoring of chocolate rather than the other way around like they do in so many places, like they do in the more well-known place just down the street. I can't remember the last time that I had Illy coffee. I don't remember liking it as much as I like this, but if this is normal I'll seek it out from now on. The Girl has a chai tea and says it's really good without me even asking. She says she wishes that she had got a 12 oz instead of 8. I ask her if it's better than the ones she's had at the other shops around here. She moves her head up and down and says yes, indicating genuine enthusiasm. I tell her that my mocha is way better than the ones I've had around here. In fact it's the best that I can remember for a long time. I think we'll be back, I tell her. She laughs quietly, the kind of laugh that says dad's being weird again, never taking her eyes off her phone. But at least it's an interaction, I think. "There never seems to be enough time to do the things you want to do once you find them." That's Jim Croce's advice coming over the speakers. Take the time to find good coffee. read more

The "illy coffee" sign caught my eye as I was exiting local institution, Gubanc's Pub, across the street. So I decided to bypass my favorite Lake Oswego coffee houses to give them a try. The interior is nicer than you would expect from the shabby exterior. And illy coffee is among my favorites, so no complaints about the quality of the drink. But Chuck's Place and Gusto Bistro also serve illy in Lake O and Blue Moon Coffee, just a couple blocks away, serves Stumptown. The other part of the business is a wine shop, but I have experienced that side of the business. It is hard for Cafe Marzocca to compete with the atmosphere of the other places in town. I view this more as a coffee stop, rather than a coffee shop where I would stay and drink my coffee with friends. read more

Yummmola! Stepped in as hubs was getting a haircut next door. Honestly never knew about this place - this is the ultimate hole in the wall location. Pretty clean and cozy, with just enough seats (and nearby outlets to charge your phone/laptop) whether you want to sit with a friend or go solo and people watch. You know the service is good when you hear the door open and the server already gets a drink ready for that customer and greets them by name. Love that small town vibe. I got a mocha at the suggestion of the barista, and boy was that a good choice. It wasn't overly sweet, and he made a point to tell me they use the "good cocoa". The fact that he said cocoa and not chocolate was promising and totally spot on. Don't get me wrong - I'm no coffee snob or pro, but I know a good cup o joe when I taste it. Unlike Starbucks, ALL the espressos are made with REAL espresso machine, (not the automated ones), and their Frappe, it's not filled with lots of ice, like Starbuck's Frappacino.... Great coffee (Illy), great service, and great contraptions for making coffee and coffee related things. The barista that brewed my espresso shot was in the navy and served in Italy and he knows his coffee. I don't remember his name but he had tattoos and was super friendly. The also have the best natural syrups for making flavored drinks and hot chocolate. In addition they use the cool nitrous gadget to make fresh whipped cream. All around delicious. The seating area is nice though small. The only downside is that there is no MENU! I will surely return for more coffee here. read more
