I was very impressed by the food at this place. Ordered the hummus for the table and I had Martini's Crazy Chicken for dinner, It was delicious. Went here with a date and she got the tofu stir fry, said it was the best she's ever had. The portions seemed fairly generous as well, im a fairly large guy and i didn't finish my dinner. The atmosphere was pretty nice, the wait staff was also very friendly. As said in another review the local artwork adds a nice touch. This place is defiantly worth checking out if you're in the area. This place has been in Denville as long as I can remember and that's over 20 years. I grew up going to this place. They use to just be pure vegetarian/seafood food but have branched out and added more to their menu. Its a contemporary place for casual attire but you really want to wear pants and a decent shirt. The decor is simple. Pictures are on their website. The crowd is a wide range from young to old. The food is great. Lots of vegan options for those who don't eat meat or fish. I went to Café Metro last night for the first time, my friend had been there before. We shared the cheeseboard appetizer which was excellent. I combined the meatless meatballs with the rigatoni entrée. My pasta dish was awesome the meatless meatballs were incredible. My friend had pasta with cannellini beans and said it was excellent. We brought our own wine I'm not quite sure if this is a BYOB as we did see on another table a wine list that only listed varietals of wine not brands, so not quite sure what's going on there. Went to Cafe Metro for NYE dinner with family and friends and it was wonderful! Service was great and on point. The food was amazing. I got the vegetable stir fry with chicken, the portion was very big! It was lightly tossed in a ginger soy sauce, not too much not to less, it was perfect. My boyfriend got the Joe Torre on the special, he loved it. He enjoys spice, and he said it was very spicy which he was pleased with! My mom got the almond crusted salmon. And it left her wanting more. She loved it. The desserts were even better! The s'mores were fabulous! We are trying to eat healthier and this place offers a nice choice of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. Menu is not accessible online due to website error (as of 6/2018). I had the encrusted salmon which was cooked perfectly and tasted wonderful. I had a slice of my husband's pizza and did not like the crust. It did not have the chew or crunch that I love and was bread like in texture. This had always been a BYOB, and it seems that they now have a limited wine list. Cafe Metro just may be my favorite restaurant ever. I've had many of the menu items, but nothing beats the veggie meatballs. They are made using the usual things faux meat is composed of, but the secret is walnuts, and it makes them amazing and addictive. The pizza is top notch, and the meatballs ON the pizza makes me feel like I could die right then and there and my life would be complete. The tiramisu is the best I have ever had ANYwhere. We've been here a few times for lunch and today's going to be the last! It took over 45 mins for someone to bring a soup and hummuswrap and the restaurant was empty when we arrived. You would think they were waiting for the beans to grow to make the hummus. It seems like they don't have any heat on. It's freezing inside and the staff all seem miserable. Our waitress is dressed like she just got off the treadmill. So unprofessional. They brought my soup out in a dish that was chipped in multiple places and spilled all over the sides. The menu is limited and seems healthy-ish except the size of the portions are on the heavy side and greasy. Here's the best part - I asked the bus girl for the check and if she could break a $20. The waitress returned with the checkbook and it only had five singles. I went over to clarify that I needed the actual check and the $20. She said she thought I just wanted the change. She printed the check and it was only $13.15! Sketchy math.... Then I took a closer look at my check and she charged me extra on the soup and when I mentioned it to her she was rude and argumentative until I showed her the menu then she changed her mood. It looks like a house from outside with a large porch. You do have the option to dine al fresco. We opted to dine inside because it was a bit muggy. It's not very big and the service was a little off. Not many people inside yet the waiter seemed to be overwhelmed. We were brought water right away. After reviewing the menu I opted for the Mediterranean Angel Hair but I added chicken and removed the sun dried tomatoes...it was very good. The angel hair wasn't over cooked as you would encounter in most places. The capers, olives, feta, garlic and artichoke hearts all complimented the angel hair. My gf had Martini's Crazy Chicken which was grilled chicken with olive oil, prosciutto, sweet peas in a cream sauce. She enjoyed it but I liked mine better. We didn't go for dessert as in the area there are 2 really good gelato/ice cream/sweets place...I would suggest to do the same. Overall the food was good. I love Cafe Metro! It is one of my favorite NJ restaurants, and I try to go when I visit NJ (I live in CA). They have lots of vegetarian food, which I like, and they have vegan things too. But they have meat things as well, so they please everyone. The tablecloths are paper, and they give you crayons for coloring. I like the FLT (Fake-Bacon, Lettuce, and Tomato Sandwich). They also have great pizza. Every sandwich comes with a salad on the plate. It's brightly lit and really nice inside, without being at all formal. Very clean. The Café Metro in Denville is an excellent little restaurant in the heart of Denville. The restaurant is in what appears to be an old house. It is wheel chair accessible with a long ramp to the front porch. The interior is pleasant and relaxed, with old wood floors and a comfortable and casual décor. Four of us went there for dinner on a Sunday night. My wife and I are "mostly" vegetarian. Our friends are not. The Café Metro had options for all four of us. We started off with two appetizers for the table. The Edamame Dumplings with dipping sauce was excellent and I would not have minded having it as my main dish. I just may do that next visit. The second appetizer was hummus with vegetables. It was tasty and the vegetables fresh and crisp, but there was nothing extraordinary about the dish; it was simply satisfying. For our dinners, I had the Vegetable Lo Mein. Made with fresh vegetables, including onion, a variety of squash, Carrots and mushrooms, the dish was nicely seasons and beautifully presented. The soy and ginger sauce was light and delicious. The serving size was ample. My wife had the grilled tempeh with seasonal chutney and raved about it. The tempeh and the brown rice were both perfectly prepared and the chutney was described as "out of this world". Our companions had the Thai Peanut Chicken and the Grilled Chicken and Eggplant. Both reported their dishes as being extremely delicious and cooked to perfection. All the main dishes were of ample portion size and were presented well. Desserts also gave a nice selection of vegetarian, vegan and "regular" options. I had the Chocolate Fudge cake. Firm and dense, it was very flavorful with whipped cream served on the plate. Very tasty and certainly a dessert I would enjoy having again. My wife had the Peanut butter Cheese Cake. She loved it, praising it highly as creamy without being overpoweringly "peanutty". It had just the right blend of the cheese cake and the peanut flavor. Our non-vegetarian friend had the vegan carrot cake. He said he enjoyed it but found the texture outside of his expectations. He attributed that to the recipe changes needed to make it a vegan dish. He did say it was tasty and he left barely a crumb behind. Our other friend had the Red Velvet cake and enjoyed it thoroughly. She said it was moist and delicious, just the right flavors and texture. The service was also excellent. So- I went for lunch, it was 30 minutes before they even TOOK our order, another 40 for our food to arrive. ( we get an hour for lunch so... you do the math) My friend ordered a sandwich which is supposed to be served with potato chips. Ive been going to Metro for years. I moved to Cali ten years ago and like to come here when in town. Tonight I was here with a friend. I ordered the black bean filled Flatues. A crispy taco shell with sour cream and guacamole. They were fair. I had the metro pizza. Too much cheese. Could not see or taste the other ingredients. It got soggy pretty quick. My buddy had pasta peas and chicken which he liked. For dessert i had the coconut cream pie which tasted like it was previously frozen and thawed. It also tasted like the inside of a refrigerator. I told the waitress I did not like it and was told she could not take off bill due to new computer but offered to give me something else. My buddies tiramisu was good. The restaurant itself is very sweet and warm, with hardwood floors and some nice architecture. The porch is wonderful in warmer months, though the traffic is a little busy, it's still peaceful. Cafe Metro's best moments are on their lunch menu. The Cali sandwich, a little grilled chicken number with melted havarti and a thick slab of avacado, is satisfying and simple. The salads are nice, too - it seems like they really utilize the freshest ingredients for lunch.
