Hapgoods in Mountain Lakes is one of my favorite brunch spots and such a reliable go-to when I want something cozy and easy with friends. The vibe is relaxed and welcoming, perfect for catching up without feeling rushed. My usual order is the avocado toast, and it never disappoints. It's fresh, flavorful, and comes with their breakfast potatoes that are honestly so good--crispy, seasoned perfectly, and the ideal side. A real treasure and charming restaurant in an upscale neighborhood . If you want to go off the map and main road check it out. A place for girlfriends, groups and couples , few singles plus this will surprise . There is a bar tavern next door for a completely different experience . Chai tea nice , huevos rancheros had 4 layers of a crispy tortillas , that was unique. Nice spice and flavor . I might adjust to 3 layers and add more black beans for protein as a more plant based person which I'm sure they can accommodate . Stopped by for quick lunch last afternoon. Was busy but we got a table for 3 in less than 5 mins. Found parking in the lot nearby.Friendly welcoming staff. Had the spicy shrimp n grits, kitchen sink omelette and the breaded chicken w mozzarella, roasted pepper, arugula n balsamic. All generous portions. Hmm the spicy shrimp n grits was so delicious w the peppers n chorizo.was to die for. The kitchen sink omelette was v healthy n tasted good. Came with home fries that was good too. We had family visiting that used to live in the area and they were back to visit and insisted that we go to Hapgoods. Being so close to home, Hapgoods was a happy little surprise for me. Met them for brunch and got the Eggs Benedict along with the maple pecan latte. The latte was very tasty. Food was good and service was fast! There was a very short wait for a table - plenty of available seating outside and inside was buzzing! After eating we decided to check out the new bar area that they opened on the other side. They opened the bar late this summer and are now serving dinner! read more

Came here for an early Mother's Day lunch and was beyond satisfied with the food. Food: my entire family enjoyed their lunch with great options such as shrimp avocado wrap, but the appetizer of confetti fries and meal of chicken and waffles blew me away. Chicken and waffles were nearly perfectly done and offered a great apple cinnamon butter which accentuated the meal. Service: expect a little bit of a wait when it is busy as there busing a lot of tables and it appears nonstop busy. Lian was excellent and took care of all of our needs. Ambiance: deceivingly large place with multiple styles of seating and outdoor seating where we stayed nestled away in a nice residential neighborhood. read more

A place we found in the way up on a visit to Morristown. We came for lunch stated with wings which were ok. My wife had an egg omelet and I had the breaded chicken sandwich which was tasty. If in the area I would recommend we were happy for our visit. Service was ok the place is nice. read more

I did not like the burger or the fries, I thought the burger tasted salty and did not have enough of a mushroom taste, and the fries were really lacking in cheese and just mid tier. For how expensive this was it was a huge let down and I will not be going back and can't recommend it for anyone. I can say The service was good, the waitress was friendly and attentive. I was in town on a business trip and I have a couple friends who live locally. I found Hapgoods on Apple Maps and thought the menu looked great and it was central to everyone so we went for it. Hapgoods had a full house but they didn't crowd it to an unenjoyable level. Service was good, our guy was young and did a great job. The food was okay. I think the food is a little expensive for what it is though, like one of us got a $21 burger and he said it wasn't good and this is a guy who never complains. My chicken and waffles was okay, nothing over the moon, I didn't finish it but it was fine. Cost to value ratio could be better but it gave us a cute place to sit down and catch up over breakfast and that was the main goal. I would still go again. read more

Inconspicuous location. Wouldn't know this gem was around if it wasn't for Yelp. Inside it looks like it's an old home turned well made restaurant. The service was super prompt and great overall. Unfortunately, Hapgoods really missed the mark for me. The restaurant itself is very cozy and it's located in a very nice area, but the food was nothing special and the service was lackluster. We started with the stuff long hotels as an appetizer. These were served ice cold and tasted like they were made days ago and then frozen and thawed. They were inedible. Really disappointing and a waste of money in my opinion. It was nearly impossible to track down someone to let them know so we begrudgingly waited for the rest of the meal to come out. I had the chicken sandwich and my boyfriend had the salmon. Both were fine, nothing special for the price. Our server never checked on us and we were left sitting and waiting for most of the meal. This place is definitely not worth the hype. read more

Very museum looking style of decor. Breakfast and lunch choices are amazing, intimate atmosphere, the server is very friendly with smiles as well as attentive. I like blue and black burger with medium rare and it was very good and nice size. I would recommend this place! read more

Lunch with friends at Hapgoods in Mountain Lakes. As close as it is,I can't imagine why I haven't been here before. Lively, vibrant place with a great vibe and interesting architecture. An original 1912 refurbished Hapgood house; this building has a lot of history behind it. Spacious, airy, casual, and comfortable, it all came together to provide an enjoyable dining experience. This place is HAPpening for sure! Very busy location with street parking in front. Be ready to adapt to different seating options or to wait for a table - Hapgoods is a busy place but I'd say worth it. Food is slightly pricey, but average for the area. Waitstaff seem a bit overwhelmed here and it's loud so it was hard to hear and order while seated at the high counter. I really think some sound reducing measures would make this place better. I had a lovely sandwich with coleslaw and added fries as a friend suggested them. Glad I did! Had some tea which I was brought a second mug for without asking which I felt was nice but I really didn't want or need a second cup. No extra charge so hey, no complaints here! read more

10/10 we love HapGoods. The atmosphere feels like you're in a quaint small town area straight out of a local Hallmark movie. They have wonderful specials ranging from seafood to shrimp and grits to steak. I love getting the super greens salad with hanger steak added. They cook it a perfect medium rare by default. As of recently, they now have a liquor license and have a drink menu! Also, this is a perfect brunch spot to sit outside during the nice weather seasons! read more

What a hidden gem! I call this a hidden gem because it's off any Main Street and actually was on my radar for a number of years before I got there. But now that I've been 4 times and had a 5 star experience every time..it's time to share that with the yelp community. As I eat my dinner leftovers for breakfast I'll just say every time we've been, always with guests, not one person was disappointed..in fact, for each of us, making return plans came for all, bringing others. Here's the deal. This review is for dinner only ! Very cute place with both inside/outside seating available. Our server was friendly and helpful. However, the food was disappointing. The calamari looked great the coating was flavorful and adhered to the calamari. But it was very chewy! The beef stroganoff was a gamble (I admit). The dish was fresh but it had little flavor outside of a heavy use of thyme. The salmon was very similar. Presentation was great, but had no flavor! Maybe we just missed on what we ordered. Staid overnight for a family event and wanted a nice breakfast before heading home. Not familiar with the area and this place seemed off the beaten path. Great find! The hostess (unfortunately didn't catch her name) was great. My wife was a little cold and we had some activities planned for later, so she asked if the had any swag. She ended up getting a very nice sweatshirt and the hostess was fantastic with making sure my wife liked it and she was good with the size. We went for a very basic breakfast - wife got a yogurt parfait and I got a BEC on rye. Food was good (sorry forgot to take pics) only thing was the waiter - HUGE language barrier! As I said, I ordered a BEC but he came back and asked about my steak sandwich. Couple of other things he had to come back and double check. My wife and I had been making a habit of weekend brunch at Hapgood's. We were impressed with the food, service, and relaxed atmosphere. Even the seasonal cocktail specials were a hit. It was really nice to be recognized and welcomed into the restaurant by the staff after a few visits. We even selected Hapgoods for an event for a local school. Oddly enough, when I gently alerted the server to the fact that the cheese on my breakfast was spoiled, more as a caution than anything else, the service manager responded with defensiveness and contradicted me. I was surprised because work with food and know rancid cheese when I taste it, but even more so I was surprised that she was utterly unconcerned about my dissatisfaction and made no effort to communicate understanding. Even had I been mistaken, the total disinterest in my dissatisfaction was shocking. We were given the cold shoulder and ignored entirely. I wasn't grumpy about the meal but I'm certainly disappointed that we lost what we were hoping would be a regular spot for brunch or lunch. read more

I really want to like this place. They are working hard on improvements and it's nice to have a go-to local place. Last night, though, they just couldn't get their act together. We had a party of four, and the server came over with two glasses of water and a bottle of water. She stood there looking at us for what seemed like an inordinately long time. She finally said she was "very confused" because she thought we were a party of two. It took even longer to get those two extra glasses of water. Our food took forever to show up, and the restaurant didn't seem very busy. We think the food was ready and the server just forgot about it. Not sure a return trip is in the cards. read more

The restaurant is absolutely beautiful -- architecture, big windows and wooden features. I have been a few times, and usually it is American staples done well. However, this past weekend I had a horrible server. We were a large party (8), to which she paid no attention. We had to flag her down to order, and never offered refills on coffee -- a very standard breakfast place in my opinion. The food came cold, and at different times. Overall, I would go back but stay clear of bringing big parties. read more

This was my first time to Hapgoods, highly recommended by our daughter and her husband (who live nearby). I can see why they like it. My veggie sandwich was loaded with tasty vegetables. Although my wife ate most of the supergreen salad, I got a couple of tastes. The combination of greens and additions, such as eggs, goat cheese, cucumbers and more made for a substantial and very good tasting salad. On this hot day, I appreciated the "no extra charge for diet soda refills" policy. On my next visit to Mountain Lakes, I'll be back. Service was professional and efficient. read more

This is one of our goto places for brunch. It is in one of the quieter streets. We had the shrimp and grit for the first time as our friends recommended. It was very tasty. Their brunch food is always excellent. The regular coffee is ok but unlimited refills. The decor is very nice though it can be loud on the inside. There's outdoor seatings as well. The service is great though it's on the slow side though but then you are there for brunch what's the hurry? I really enjoy the ambiance and I saw people doing work on their iPads and I think it's a very good place for that. It can get really busy on weekends though. Definitely go check this place out if you're in the area. read more
