I have been here twice. The first time was a good experience. The food was great the three people I was with all got specials. And we got the calamari appetizer. The second time they ran out of flour and were unable to make pizza which was disappointing. For dinner I got the Rigatoni Metro which was very good. Cafe Metro is one of our go-to places for delicious vegan food in northern New Jersey. My husband and I took advantage of the Yelp deals a few times and have never been anything less than impressed by the quality and selection of the food as well as the service. My husband and I took his mother to eat there - she is pretty picky about her food and generally complains that anything that isn't salt-laden is "bland" - and even she liked it so much that she had no leftovers. The vegan selection is wonderful and the cupcakes are also incredible. I had the peanut butter chocolate one and my husband (who doesn't like sweets) had the carrot cake and loved it. Although the food is amazing there isn't enough staff. The few times I've been there during lunch there's never a hostess at the host stand and the servers just watch you stand there waiting for service. I'm not sure if this location is self seating or not but it should at least be publicized when you walk in if it is. There's never many customers there on the Fridays I've been, so I'm not sure why it takes so long to be seated and waited on. I prefer to order out , at least then I'll know I'll be in and out on time. read more

Been here a few times and have never been disappointed. I'm vegan, so it's nice to have a few (tasty) options. But it's also good for non-vegan types as well. Food/Drink: Soup of the day (pumpkin): The soup had a hint of chipotle and cinnamon and was quite honestly delicious. It was my favorite part of the meal, its a special so I don't believe it will always be on the menu. I had the Thai Chicken of rice, it was just so so. The dish over all in terms of flavor was pretty good, no complaints. The chicken however was overcooked and dry. The brocolli on the side was kind of bland, which didnt really add anything to the dish. Wife had the metro salad which had some realli nice home made mozz on top, yum. I didn't get to try the pasta with veggie meatballs which my friends had, but from what they told me was delicious and they ate it all. Some people stated quantity was generous. We did not find this to be the case. My friend and myself both felt hungry after, but luckily our wives were full so we could finish their plates. We had dinner here 3 weeks ago. I've been to Cafe Metro and normally have a decent meal. This time the food was bad. The nachos came out cold, as if the beef had never been heated. The waitress brought new ones after we complained. The kale salad, at $15, was pretty much just kale coated in oil. While it sounded great on the menu, it didn't have all the ingredients it spoke of. The pizza with fresh basil didn't have any basil. We were there for a celebration so it was awkward to complain and change the tone of the evening. I called the next day and spoke with the manager. I told her for a $100 meal it was so disappointing. She was SO rude! She told me it was my fault because I didn't say anything while we were there. I explained that it was a celebration and the couple didn't want us to complain and ruin the evening. The manager argued with me, finally said she would send us a gift card, and never did. Apparently the chef and the manager have changed. I will not return. read more

Ate here a few weeks ago. We came in on a Saturday night and it was pretty packed. Host was running around frantic to get tables set, so we had to wait around 40 minutes. The place is a BYO so that gave us time to run out and get a bottle of wine for dinner. They were also offering glasses to people waiting so they could drink, which I thought was a nice touch. We had looked at the menu while waiting and had all of our food picked out, but when we got to the table we noticed a specials menu that was not at the host desk. On the menu, we noticed deviled eggs 3 ways and thought that it would be a great appetizer. They were supposed to be prepared as cayenne, crab and wasabi. When they came to the table is was 3 halves of eggs, and all 3 tasted like a deviled egg. We thought it would be 3 full eggs and we would be able to share, but that was not the case. Also, every egg tasted just like a deviled egg, no difference between the three. But that's where the bad stops. We also ordered an arancini, and that was SO GOOD. Perfectly crispy outside with a ton of melty mozzarella cheese on the inside. It was served in a marinara sauce that complimented it wonderfully. I wish we would have gotten 2! For entree, we split the Jardinera Pizza. It was a good size, about 10-12 inches, thin crust pizza cooked excellently. The crust was not too doughy, but not wafer thin either. There were giant chunks of eggplant that were delicious, complimented by fresh spinach, more mozzarella (never enough) and tomatoes. We decided to save some for home and it was just as good the next day. Service was OK, found ourselves waiting for a bit for refills ... But the place was packed and we don't mind. The only buzz kill was an old couple next to us that was arguing. All in all this was a good restaurant, just need to make those deviled eggs more flavored, and something that is able to be shared ... I mean c'mon ... put the other half on the plate! read more

The food tasted OK but was rather disappointing. Ordered a pasta dish that was listed as having eggplant and other vegetables in it with a pesto sauce with sun-dried tomatoes. The sauce was more like a red sun-dried tomato sauce with a few basil leaves. It was 99% pasta and 4 or 5 small cubes of eggplant on top. I was very disappointed. The price was unreasonable for the content of the dish. The wait for our food was fairly long. And to top it all off there were no refills on soda. If you are a vegetarian or a vegan there are much better options in Denville. read more

This cute little place is amazing. Stopped here on the last night of a long road trip, and it was a damn good decision. The waitress was super sweet and made sure everything was great. My boyfriend got a vegetarian pizza and I had the lo mein. Some of the best food I've ever had. Though the noodles were linguini as opposed to typical Asian noodles, they went perfect with the garlic soy sauce and garden veggies. To make the experience even better we were offered to meet the head chef, Cory, who was a pleasure. Next time I'm in the area this is a definite stop for lunch or dinner. I have been coming here for many years and have never been disappointed. The food is consistently good. It's one of the few places that I can eat out and not feel that the food has been drowned in fat and salt. The ingredients are always fresh and the prices are very reasonable. Portions are large enough on many dishes to share. I love dining in and also taking food to go. Our favorites are the chicken stir fry, vegetable lo mein, almond encrusted salmon and the chicken Fresca. The kids love the pizza and table side s'mores. It's so interesting how often we forget that this restaurant is in town, but we've started going there more often, and I'm always glad when we do. It's small with some outdoor seating. The service is usually pretty quick and the waitstaff is generally attentive. Sometimes it's been a little lacking, but overall we're happy. They have some various wines, including berry and other flavors. They're okay, nothing special, but sometimes nice to not have to byo. The food is consistently good. They have a crusted salmon dish on the menu that I've had several times and really enjoy. They typically have several options for my gluten-free wife, and are accommodating about modifying dishes to suit her allergies and taste. There are daily specials that are sometimes quite good. Overall, the food tastes like they really care about using quality, fresh ingredients. The pizzas are good and my kids enjoy them. read more

They have a great selection of healthy options! If you are a vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian or a meat eater they have it all. A casual ambiance, however the heat is not good at all. Most people had their coats on because the building is old we were told by the waitress. I'll have to assume that either I disagree with the vast majority of reviewers, or I went on a very off night. Got there on the earlier side, place was fairly empty, say around 7:00, when I turned around later it was packed. Decor inside was pleasing, with a nice mix of clientele. We were seated with a smile and handed our menus. Apparently there are specials, but we weren't given the list, or told about them. We had to ask for water, it was never offered. A small portion of bread with butter in plastic tubs was brought out. Considering the Veggie/Vegan vibe.... how about some earth friendly ways to serve the butter? Just sayin.... And a small detail, I was surprised by only one paper napkin, not cloth. The food..... We ordered the Calamari appetizer, the much recommended Peanut Chicken, and Linguine Putanesca. The Calamari and I didn't connect, and I love Calamari. I won't say it wasn't fresh, but it didn't jump out of the sea that night either. The Chicken was pounded thinly to what could have been perfection had it not been overcooked to a leather consistency. It was then smothered in the peanut sauce. The two bunches of Broccoli needed about another minute or two of par boiling or steaming. The Linguine was absolutely drowned in sauce. When all the pasta was gone, there was a full plate of sauce left. Probably enough for another two servings. I really wanted to like this place. I will go again and hope to have a better experience. I had to give it 2 stars not 3. It really wasn't "A-OK".... I have experienced better. And to be honest, it had such a solid 4 star rating I was expecting more. read more

Only went here because I was given a Groupon as a gift. Service was horrible. Unattentive and acted as though we were a bother to them. Watched as multiple people waiting to be seated for dinner walked out of the restaurant because they weren't even acknowledged. Worse yet, the incompetent waiter charged my credit card a completely different party's dinner and when we asked for the manager, he acted as though WE were the problem. No apology, nothing. My boyfriend and I decided to come here after a one week juice cleanse- I am so confused by all of the rave reviews!!! The food was incredibly bland, not too much to choose from and the menu doesn't exactly go with the vegan/vegetarian theme in my opinion.. I was seriously disappointed even before we ordered. The entire place was empty (maybe two or three other tables, enough servers on staff to each have their own table) and our waitress was MIA, never checked on us once. We ambled over to this popular spot in Denville on Friday night . They don't take reservations so be prepared to wait. The hostess and serving staff were extremely nice and friendly. On to the food-my BF ordered the Sea Bass and Calamari and was pleased with both. I ordered the Veggie Lo Mein, which was alright except that it was overloaded with big chunks of purple and green cabbage that had not been sauteed well and had a most horrific bite to it. I have been eating at Café Metro for yearssss and I LOVE it. Lunch and dinners...great quality food, good pricing. I like the wide variety on the menu (I can be eating an Italian dish, while my friend is eating an Asian stir-fry!) Healthy, fresh, also savory & always delicious. I don't eat meat & love the vegetarian options they have. At the same time, they have lots of other great options for people who do eat meat and my family is always happy with their selections. We got the hummus which was yummy, it came with fresh vegetables and pita bread, a garden salad, Asian Noodles with Thai Peanut sauce and snap peas and a veggie pizza (jardeniere)....
