    New York Steak Frites

Was looking for a brunch spot and found this lovely spot. They were pretty busy on Sunday. Their menu is kind of big with a lot of delicious choices. I went with the NY Strip and Fritte. My wife did the the herb crusted salmon. The steak was a nice size for the price. It's was cooked perfect medium. Though i would have like more of a sear. It was flavorful and tender. The green beans that came with them was amazing. I usually don't like green beans that much but these were pretty good. We ended lunch with the beignets. Nice crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. The flavors remind me more of a funnel cake than a beignets, but they were still delicious. Overall it was a pretty good lunch. Will be returning and definitely recommend this great spot.

Café Monte is a great spot for brunch, with a cozy Bistro‑Paris vibe that makes the morning feel charming and relaxed. It's a wonderful place for gathering with friends or family, and the atmosphere always feels welcoming. The food is good and comforting, though I'd love to see a few dishes that feel a bit more unique to match the café's charming theme. Overall, it's an easy, enjoyable brunch choice with a touch of French flair.

I met some coworkers here for lunch on a weekday. Was not too busy, and our server was attentive and nice. I ordered an omelet and requested no toast, but it came anyway. My latte was very good although you would have thought it would come with a pretty design! Overall, my experience was good. I wouldn't say it was anything outstanding, especially coming with a hefty price tag but no major complaints either.

This was my second visit to Cafe Monte. The first time the restaurant was very busy and I was looking for a quick afternoon snack. The hostess was gone so I went to the bar located next to the hostess stand and they were so busy they shave time to assist and re-directed me to the Hostess Stand so I left. The second time we were greeted with a smile and asked if we had a reservation, which I thought was weird for breakfast, then seated quickly. There was only one server who took awhile to get to our table but our order was taken quickly and food was brought out fast. Food was fresh and served hot. We got the butternut squash soup, eggs Benedict served with a hash brown and a bacon egg cheese sandwich also with a hash brown. Food was delicious and service was great. I love the "French atmosphere". My only reason for 4 stars was we were informed the cappuccino machine was out so no lattes- only coffee. I was really looking forward to a hot latte and settled for OJ. Definitely recommend Cafe Monte.

A nice lowkey cafe near southpark. The ambiance is very chic and relaxing. The food was delicious and the whole experience was done in a timely manner during peak hours.

Met a couple gfs for Sunday brunch at noon, the ambience is beautiful but the food sort of fell flat for me. I ordered the short rib sandwich just to be told few min later they were out of it. So I settled in on the seafood omelette. Was posed to have like crab, lobster and salmon with cheese but honestly barely could find much seafood and if the cheese was there it was very light, almost nonexistent. And the flavor just wasn't there for me, had high hopes but just didn't win me over. The jam for the bread was great as well as the sweet tea.

Food was delicious and fresh! The chicken and mushroom crepe was perfection. Seasoned but not salty. The potatoes had the perfect crunch on the outside and mashed potatoes inside. Steak was undercooked but still tasty. Service was OK. Parking available in lot.

First time here and it was busy of course. They share parlors it's other businesses so during busy time you may have to circle working the deck a couple of times to find a spot. The place itself has a lot of seating. It isn't the cutest in the inside. The service was okay. Pretty straight forward waiters. Water glass was dirty. The food was decent. Not the best. We got the Benedict monte and salmon Benedict. It was okay. It was nice that it was serve on a croissant and not an English muffin like usual. Probably wouldn't go back. Food wasn't all that different.

    Great French Country Breakfast!

Great place for lunch/brunch. Service was great and the food hit the spot. Atmosphere was good with some light music in the background.

Café Monte continues with its charm and nice atmosphere. Service continues to be good. The food was okay. Some of our dishes were really good, some lack flavor. Overall great experience and nice restaurant to have dinner.

The last time I was here, I did not notice there is no women's restroom. This time, since we came a day that had 1/2 priced cocktails... I noticed. There are 2 restrooms and both are unisex. Not one of them gives a woman her own space. Instead, they decorated the bathroom with a "distressed look" to hide men's dribble on the floor and messiness. There was also no soap, it was out. The unisex bathroom reminds me of what you'd find in a gas station. It makes the restaurant low class. As for the food, I got the lobster & crab crepe again but it was not as good as the last time I was here. They shrunk the size by 1/3 and did not have as much meat. I regretted getting it. One gal got the shortrib over mashed potatoes and it was very good. One gal enjoyed the mussels. One gal got the gluten free pizza and didn't like it. (But, I mean it's gluten free so what do you expect ? Lol) The French onion soup was tiny but had excellent flavor. The desserts here are tiny... the fruit tart or creme brule can be eaten in 4 bites. The Nutella crepe was very good. The éclair tasted purchased. Drinks were excellent and the service was excellent. However, I do not return to a restaurant if they don't have a women's restroom so this will be my last time here.

Went to Cafe Monte tonight for dinner with my Soul Family, all you can eat mussels (three of us got different dishes). Excellent service (Matt), great food! They bring out fresh bread, which was quite good of course. A short rib poutine with Wisconsin cheese curds, which was phenomenal! I just wish there was more short rib and cheese because we did share it between nine people so everyone could get a taste - and had more fries than meat and cheese. But. Again. Flavor was spot on and the french fries were excellent - actually enjoyed it enough that I would definitely get a short rib entree it was that good! The first round of mussels are quite large, cooked beautifully, a lot of meat, and the flavor was excellent. They do tell you upfront that the subsequent rounds of mussels are smaller, but again the flavor and the freshness just as good. The other three dishes were: a chicken risotto, really good portion and again fresh and flavorful. Artichoke and crab crêpes with lemon béchamel that was absolutely out of this world! I personally love lemon, of course, the artichokes were such a good compliment, the seafood very fresh. Crab and lobster crepes in a tarragon cream sauce. Yet again, very fresh and flavorful. It had chunks of tomato, which I personally enjoyed. Definitely worth a visit for any meal really but especially those mussels! We were way too full for dessert, but Matt mentioned they have an excellent coconut cake, carrot cake, eclair, crème brûlée, and other desserts.

When are the endless mussels coming back?

They have endless mussels every Wednesday. I've been several times over the last 6-8 months.

Are you open for outdoors patio dining?

They have very nice tables, chairs, and umbrellas outside. Very nice quality for outdoor furniture. Exterior is decorated nicely with lights and an Eiffel Tower.

Does anyone know what day they serve beef Wellington?

Saturday. Reservations informing them you want beef wellington is recommended as they only make around 20.

Next, we wanted to love the actual goods of offer - beautiful presentation and a huge variety of do-it-yourself pick and choose tray style self service! Lastly we wanted to love the checkout service - it seemed ready to get people moving along! Most of these things held the weight we wanted and anticipated, short of the location and parking. The goods - we sampled a Yuzu tart (tasted like soap?!) and mango croissant (a bit of soapiness in this one too, oddly) a chocolate explosion croissant (best of what we tried and chocolate was evenly distributed) and one each of the pretzel shaped pastries (ok but nothing exciting and tasted bland). Again- skilled presentation and mastery of baked goods form...these all looked great and tasted...just ok. There were three staff members at the counter and two seemingly were distracted while one gent running the register was taking care of the 5-6 people deep line. Only as the line approached the cafe area and door did the other two staff start taking customers at the other register. There are probably several options here to delight palates if you take the time to sample all the items and perhaps we simply picked poorly during our visit.

You just need caffeine, carbs, and five minutes to reset your mood. I already knew exactly what I wanted, so this turned into a tactical pastry mission. Pulled into the little Piedmont Town Center circle with the fountain, double parked for a hot second, ran inside, grabbed an iced coffee and a mango croissant, and got right back out into Charlotte traffic. The mango croissant was flaky, buttery, lightly sweet, and filled with enough cream to make the entire stop worth it. Perfect little energy boost when your social battery and shopping patience are both running low. The location itself is great for a quick pop-in. Cute little area with hotels, restaurants, and walkable spots nearby. Easy place to grab a sweet treat before continuing your day. Life is too short to not eat well, Charlotte. They had offered samples of their lemon tart at the event, which stayed on my mind--so I came back and ordered the Lorraine-style quiche. It was rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced by a fresh side salad. I paired it with a café au lait, which was equally well done. The ambiance is effortlessly chic--very much reminiscent of a European café--and it was lively during lunch. It's the kind of place where you can sit, linger, and people-watch... and SouthPark definitely showed up in style. At one point, several guests seated near us were speaking French, which added to the authenticity and overall experience. Service was warm and efficient, even with the crowd. The bakery itself is on the smaller side--you order inside and then head outside to sit and eat. I went on a Sunday, so it was very busy with a long line, but it moved quickly. When seating fills up, the neighboring restaurant allows use of their patio, which is a thoughtful touch. My friend enjoyed her quiche as well, and we both agreed it's a spot worth returning to--whether for a casual lunch, coffee, or a pastry break. I also order a few macarons to go and my family enjoyed them.

Review for Renaissance Patisserie…read more After relocating to Charlotte from San Francisco, one of the first things I searched for was a proper kouign-amann (pronounced queen-ah-mahn). It's a staple where I'm from, and when I discovered that Renaissance Patisserie carried it, I made the drive immediately. I'm happy to say--this place is the real deal. The kouign-amann here reminded me of the ones back in San Francisco. It wasn't quite as buttery or rich as some of the West Coast versions, but it was absolutely enjoyable--and most importantly, I finished every bite. That alone says a lot. Location & setting: Renaissance is tucked into the upscale specialty shops of SouthPark, in a lovely, polished shopping center surrounded by quality retailers like Williams Sonoma and several restaurants. Parking is plentiful and convenient, and once you step out of your car, you're welcomed into a charming outdoor courtyard that feels relaxed and refined. You'll immediately notice the bright yellow awning--it's cheerful and inviting--and inside, the bakery is just as charming. The black-and-white tile floors, small bistro tables, and beautifully arranged pastry case create a classic European feel. It's not a huge space--maybe six or seven tables--but it feels cozy, elegant, and thoughtfully designed. What makes it special: * A stunning pastry case filled with beautifully crafted desserts and laminated pastries * Skilled bakers and decorators--you can tell there's real craftsmanship behind the products * Friendly, efficient service * Apple Pay accepted (always appreciated) * Self-service water and condiments station * Clean, comfortable environment * A lovely outdoor patio that's perfect when the weather cooperates I do wish they occasionally experimented with more creative variations of the kouign-amann--perhaps seasonal fruit or specialty flavors--but even in its classic form, it's consistently a hit. I've brought these pastries to friends and gatherings, and they're always well received. What I appreciate most is that Renaissance delivers on quality and consistency. It may be a newer trend here in Charlotte, but these pastries have been a long-standing favorite in cities like San Francisco, and it's wonderful to see that level of craftsmanship available locally. Bottom line: Beautiful pastries, fair prices, great service, and a polished, welcoming atmosphere. This has become my go-to bakery in Charlotte, and if you appreciate well-made French pastries, you will not be disappointed.

That search led me to Vicente in South End, and I'm happy to say it absolutely earned its spot on my list. The kouign-amann here was slightly lighter and a bit less dense and buttery than the ones I remember from the Bay Area, but it still hit all the right notes--caramelized edges, flaky layers, and just enough indulgence to satisfy the craving. When you find one in Charlotte, you take note. I also ordered a frangipane (marzipan) croissant, which is always one of my go-to pastries when it's done well. This one delivered--rich, nutty, and comforting without being overly sweet. I'm not much of a chocolate pastry person, so I tend to gravitate toward custard- or almond-filled items, and this bakery clearly understands how to execute those classics. The space itself is beautiful--clean glass storefront, modern aesthetic, and a welcoming feel from the moment you walk in. It's attached to a large apartment complex with underground parking, which makes it surprisingly easy to access. Very walkable, very convenient, and refreshingly low-stress compared to some of the trendier spots. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the prices felt reasonable for the quality. One small wish: I'd love to see a late-day pastry special or a loyalty program. I'm the kind of regular who will absolutely show up more often if there's an incentive--and let's be honest, pastries are hard to resist when there's a little nudge. I'll definitely be back, especially if they start experimenting with more creative flavors. A kouign-amann with poached fruit--nectarine, mango, or passionfruit--would have me running back through the door. And candidly, I'm grateful Charlotte's pastry scene is still growing. It means there's room for bakeries like this to shine and keep raising the bar. As someone who loves good food, I'm always rooting for local bakers and artisans to succeed. Bottom line: A beautiful neighborhood bakery with solid execution, friendly service, and a kouign-amann worth the trip. I'll be back--and I'm keeping an eye on that pastry case.

Weekdays are a much better time to stop by. Overall, it's a decent place to grab a quick coffee and pastry if you're nearby, but probably not a destination bakery.
