Bad business deserves NO business.
My experience at Cafe Nubia today was absolutely unacceptable. What was advertised and promoted as a FREE event turned into what felt like a bait-and-switch situation once guests arrived. Instead of simply attending the advertised event, we were presented with the choice of paying $50 for a buffet brunch or $50 for drink tickets. If there were mandatory charges associated with attending, that should have been made crystal clear before people showed up and stood in line for hours.
And unfortunately, the problems didn't stop there.
The drinks were terrible, the service was painfully slow, and the establishment was completely unprepared for the number of people in attendance. It took an hour just to get WATER. We stood in line and waited for hours, only for the sound system to be faulty and Tank ultimately did not perform. After all that time, money, and waiting, customers were left feeling completely disregarded.
There was also a gratuity charged for six people when there were only FOUR people in my party. When we attempted to address the issue, the owner's response was incredibly disappointing. Rather than simply correcting the charge, we were asked to provide pictures of people's credit cards and he may refund. Customers should NEVER be asked for photographs of their payment cards. That's an outrageous and inappropriate way to handle a billing dispute.
Then there's the buffet situation. With respiratory illnesses such as COVID and RSV circulating, having a crowded buffet setup is already something many customers may reasonably have concerns about. Add in one-hour table limits, inadequate service, and poor organization, and the entire experience becomes even more frustrating.
What was most insulting was the attitude. Instead of taking responsibility, addressing legitimate complaints, or making things right, it felt as though the money had already been collected and customers' concerns simply didn't matter.Being laughed at when you're already frustrated after spending hours waiting is beyond disrespectful.
This wasn't simply a bad meal or a slow afternoon. It was a complete failure in communication, organization, customer service, and accountability.
If you're going to advertise a FREE event, be transparent about what customers will actually be required to pay. If you're going to charge gratuity, charge it accurately. If something goes wrong, take responsibility and make it right.
Cafe Nubia, you don't get to take people's money, waste their time, fail to deliver what was promised, and then laugh it off.
