TL;DR: Good food, friendly staff but there are "off days"... I don't always visit a place a few times before writing a review and I am glad I did this time. My wife works in Santa Fe and we usually eat here when I visit. I I understand it is quite popular. First the good. The food was always great. No matter what kind do breakfast or brunch we ordered the food, everything was always well prepared. My favorite is definitely the Huevos Rancheros. Come hungry! :) The portions are very generous. The atmosphere is also great. We sat at the communal table once and had a fantastic conversation with people. Really a lot of fun! If you like meeting new people, ask to sit there. The prices were ok for Santa Fe. As someone who visits from Austin things sometimes seem a bit expensive. But that is not a fair comparison. I think that, for the food quality and portion size, the price was good. Now the bad. Last time we were here was with my parents and the service was very poor. The waitress spilt juice on our table and did not come back to clean it (we finally asked for extra napkins), I had to ask for a cutlery three times, my dad asked for a side twice... and this was the least busy I have ever seen the place. We didn't even have to wait to be seated. I don't know what was going on, but will notch this as an "off day". I would definitely give Pasquale's 4-5 stars but this service was just too poor. My wife and I love this place! It not only some of the best breakfast/brunch/lunch in Santa Fe but Ivan and Arturo are by far our favorite servers in town. My 2 favorite items on the menu are the quinoa burger and the BLT. I always get them with the kale salad which is a must have. My wife always gets something new and is never disappointed. We reserved judgement after our first disappointment, thinking it had been a bad day in the kitchen. But after about three disappointing meals there--we won't go back. The service is still outstanding. But the meals are disappointing. And it's not inexpensive. I hope they go back to their old standards so we can patronize them again. read more

I better damn well rate this place 5 stars since my father and I came here three times within the span of two days for breakfast and lunch. The reviews were fantastic and since it was so close to our hotel, we had to try it out. I am so glad that we did. Everything I ate here was fantastic. Here's what you cannot go wrong with: Scrambled eggs with toast, hickory-smoked smashed potato cake and applewood smoked bacon. Here's what you do next, you add a side of whole wheat pancakes. This was a wonderful breakfast - their pancakes were light and fluffy. The hickory-smoked smashed potato cake is a nice reminder that you are indeed in Santa Fe. Lunch special: grilled white corn wheels. Delicious. I could have done with more of the chile butter but otherwise fantastic and I should have ordered two. Service was phenomenal. The manager (owner?) is so pleasant. The staff is very attentive and helpful. Definitely get a cookie on your way out. My dad and I shared a strawberry shortbread that was scrumptious. read more

I was disappointed with Cafe Pasqual after eating breakfast here on a recent trip to Santa Fe. I had recalled that the food was good from a previous experience, however the device was pretty dismal on this Wednesday morning, and the restaurant was not totally full, about 3/4 full. I was seated promptly, and the water came quickly. It was quite a while before my coffee order was taken. As I ordered, the wait person did answer a couple of questions, and then dashed away. When the order was delivered, my coffee cup was empty, however the staff didn't acknowledge that, and didn't ask if I wanted any other condiments (like ketchup for the potatoes, which is a pretty standard request) I had to flag down staff to request additional coffee and condiments. No one asked how my meal was and if I required anything else until I was nearly finished. I could forgive slow service if they were very busy, however it appeared the wait staff were more busy visiting with each other in the back than actually being attentive to the diners. I give 3 stars as the food was pretty good, and there were a number of vegetarian options. That said, the wait staff did not ask me if I wanted the French of gluten free bread, nor if I preferred turkey or regular bacon. Otherwise it would have been 2 stars. Come for the endless James Beard awards and leave with your Santa Fe dining needs gloriously fulfilled. As mentioned in (I hope) every other Yelp review, Cafe Pasqual's is one of the most hyped restaurants in this town of much fancy cuisine, and it came even more highly recommended by family-of-friends who live in New Mexico (but, get this, ~3 hours outside town - they drive to SF often and Cafe Pasqual's came as their most highly recommended dining options); guess what...the New Mexicans were right!! With all this hype, we (The Mrs., MiL, & I) counted ourselves quite lucky when we came across upon Cafe Pasqual's while wandering SF's Plaza on day 1 of our vacation. Even more lucky: we were seated in less than 5 minutes (additional unnecessary detail--we had waited waaaay too long to eat lunch (~2pm with nothing else to eat that day), Cafe Pasqual's closes for lunch at 3pm, and from the door it looked like a 1-hour wait - looks can be deceiving, folks, we were seated right away at a group dining table where we met a bunch of other lovely food enjoyers). With all of those details aside about how/when/why we came to eat at this restaurant, I suppose I could say a thing or 2 about the food...? Why not; The Food: I ordered the Tacos Cabrito (roasted kid goat), which was a special of the day. The meat was incredibly tender, the peppers on the taco were sweet & hot & perfectly roasted, the sauce on the dish & place was the perfect accompaniment and (thank gawd) did not destroy the hand-made corn tortillas. My dish also came with a prepared mango, and their house salsa, the latter of which I could devour by the bowlful. The Mrs. ordered the Yucatan chicken breast salad - again the meat was meat was incredibly tender and shredded into delectable little bits that went perfectly with the wild rice and delightful, crisp, delicious fruit medley that made up the rest of the salad. Mother in Law ordered the trout hash - again, the meat was perfectly tender, served over a potato pancake, and topped with maybe the most beautiful over-medium eggs I've ever seen on a breakfast dish in all my days. The ambiance was excellent - again, we sat at a large group-eating table. This made me nervous at first, but we got to know a number of fellow travelers at our table and ended up having some excellent conversations (in addition to learning about other items on the menu). The service was excellent. The restaurant is small/crowded and the staff a bit harried; nevertheless, we were constantly attended to and enjoyed a superb lunch dining experience. A few more side notes, just so my (also superb) review ;) shows up in all of the searches - since it's Mexican/New Mexican cuisine, it's easy for dishes to be gluten free (yaaay #GF!). Also, as I alluded to above, we did not have to wait whatsoever, but as nearly every other reviewer mentions, it's probably smart to make a reservation. If there were more than 5 stars available, Cafe Pasquals would receive all of the stars. read more

This was our annual visit to Cafe Pasqual's. Joined by five friends, we were seated quickly upon our arrival for our 7:30 reservation. Service was excellent. The food, however, was not up to standards we have come to expect from Cafe Pasqual's. In particular, the skirt steak was inedible. It was tough and nothing but a glob of gristle. To his credit, the waiter did not charge for this entree once he was shown the disgusting meat that the kitchen sent out to the table. While we hoped the skirt steak incident was isolated, we sadly found that not to be the case. I ordered the lamb chops (medium rare) and they arrived barely rare. The middle of the chop was still cold and the chops were so tough that they were also not edible. Desserts were excellent. We will chalk this up to a bad night at Cafe Pasqual's. Past experiences have been great, so we will give them a chance at redemption on our next visit to Santa Fe. read more

I concur with the great reviews of this restaurant! Went there because the menu just looked good. As foodies, we are always interested in creative and local tastes. This place does all that. Meat and vegetarian, something for everyone. Plus, the service was awesome. Everyone was really friendly and nice. Cactus salad-yummy! For those who don't know, cactus is kind of slimy like okra, but they grill it and serve it with poblano peppers, tomatoes, lettuce, and red onion. Warning...it's CRAZY heavy on the red onion. Had to pick it out, but didn't care because it was really good anyway. Fun to order something different than what we normally get in our neck of the woods. Also ordered the pibil (pork shoulder) and the chile en nogada (chile relleno, stuffed with apples, raisins and mushrooms and an amazing creamy walnut sauce). Both of these were AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS. The pork was served with fried green plantains and veg, super tasty, very well seasoned, you could tell there was cinnamon and other spices in the pork. It was also served with homemade corn tortillas which were also really well done, warm but also soft and pliable. I asked for butter (I think they thought I was crazy) but the warm tortillas with butter was killer. The chile en nogada was absolutely delicious, really fresh, sprinkled with pomegranate seeds for punch. I highly recommend it. It was served with homemade corn torte, basically a better version of cornbread. Really delicious. Homemade tres leches...need I say more? I've had many versions of tres leches cake, not all were good. This one was really really really good. Perfect cake consistency to hold the milk, and enough milk in the cake, it was a perfect dessert for the meal. By the way, the other desserts looked fantastic, I was spying on other tables' plates as they were carried by... Top it all off with the local Gruet sparkling wine! A tip-the restaurant is really small so I would recommend a reservation for any time of day, just in case. I saw a large group seated in the center of the restaurant, maybe 10 people, so even though it's small it appears they can accommodate groups. Dinner for two that included one app, two entrees, one dessert, and two glasses of wine per person ran about $150. read more

We were looking forward to a wonderful meal when we arrived in Santa Fe so made a reservation for dinner weeks ahead. The hostess was very nice. The interior very pleasant and welcoming. We were seated at a lovely table. The ginger and pineapple beverage was delicious as was the cocktail. And then things went downhill from there. We explained that this was our first time in Santa Fe and at this restaurant and asked for suggestions. The waiter just kept repeating which were the two most popular dishes. I tried the artic char since it comes fresh from Norway and I loved it when we had it in Iceland. I was so disappointed! The fish was overdone, over salted and so over peppered that you could not taste the fish so I did something I never do - I sent it back. The waiter had them put the sauce on the side the second time, but the fish was still peppered although not overcooked this time. It was OK but not the dining experience I hoped for. My husband's dish was better but nothing extraordinary. The waiter came by and just slapped the dessert menus on our table without a word and without asking if we even wanted dessert. At that point we were done. Perhaps it was an off night for the chef. Perhaps the waiter was overwhelmed. I would like to think that was the case. We ate at several wonderful establishments during our stay in New Mexico and this one was by far the worst. read more

Best eggs and bacon I've ever had. Sunny side up fresh eggs and perfectly smoked bacon. I believe it came with beans, salsa, etc. We visited 2 mornings in a row for our stay in Santa Fe. Don't be in a hurry though because it's going to take time. The menu is unusual so be sure to read it all the ingredients really closely or you may be in for a surprise if you aren't into strange combos. It also cost $100 (with tip) for 3 of us to eat breakfast. We all had tea and a couple extra sides of bacon (see above, delicious!) so that made it a little more, but still, that's 'spensive! Pro tip: if you are an early breakfast eater, get there about 30 min before they open to get seating because this place is charming AKA super small. Ha! If you miss opening, you will be waiting around for at least an hour for an open table. The service is bad to be honest so I can't go 5 stars, but the great food makes you forget about it. read more

Fantastic breakfast food and experience. The place is small and it seems to fill up quickly so get there early or expect a wait. The community table is round and mostly 2-tops are seated there, from what we saw, and it was a great opportunity to talk to others and enjoy the company of strangers. The polenta with red chile is fantastic! I was visiting from out of town and found the chile to be quite tasty and not too spicy (which I did experience at several other restaurants). I must admit my "OK" review is due to having high expectations. This place is the talk of Santa Fe (many recommended it for breakfast). We tried to go for breakfast, but there was a 1-hour wait (we went to Tia Sophia's instead, which we enjoyed). We returned to Pasqual's for dinner. The biggest disappointments were: - No tequila. Agave wine margarita really doesn't cut it for me. - We started with the puposa, and it came with a small beet salad. We didn't realize the salad had some HOT peppers in it (those very small, pointy red ones), and my dining partner ate a whole one and was suffering the rest of the dinner. I have a taste for spicy peppers, but even a little bite of one was a bit much for me. I wish we had been warned about the peppers. - I honestly FORGET what I had for dinner. I recall it was served with herbaceous rice that was delicious. But I forget the protein. It was apparently unremarkable. - Though we were very near the waitress station and the restaurant is not large, it was often difficult to get the waitress' attention. I wish Pasqual's was better! But if you're going to spend that much money for dinner, go to Sazon instead. read more

My husband and I were staying at the hotel up the block. We asked the hotel and many other people around town where we should go to dinner. They all said Cafe Pasqual's!! We heard it was small, so decided to make a reservation- they only had 9pm available but it was a Saturday night so we were ok with that! Perhaps we had high expectations going in from all the recommendations, but our experience was nothing to write home about. The waiter was very unfriendly, they do not have a full bar and I thought the food and wine was very overpriced. My husband ordered the $18 carne asada skewer "appetizer" and said it was just ok. I had a combination plate of a chili relleno and mole enchilada- both of which was actually very good and then a soggy barbacoa taco- which the menu listed I could choose between the taco or a tamale- which I was looking forward to the tamale, but after I finished ordering, the waiter plucked the menu out of my hands and walked away without confirming my choice. I would be willing to try the breakfast, but probably wouldn't come back for dinner. read more

The times they are a-changin' Cafe Pascuals used to be our very favorite first stop on our trips to Santa Fe. We were there last month and had a pretty putrid experience..enough to say that we probably won't return. First off, the waiter was totally offensive and weird. I went to "help him out" putting a dish down and he pulled it away from me abruptly. He was snarky. My breakfast was not great, nothing like it used to be there.. My son's pancakes tasted like meat. Obviously the grill had just been used for a meat product and not appropriately cleaned. Yucch! Wife & son's girlfriend were not impressed with their meal either. In the restaurant business, you are only as good as your last meal. So, with all of the other great places in Santa Fe, it's time to try them! read more
