They aren't too expensive, pretty reasonable for fresh baked goods. My favorite bakery and based on how busy it is, it's the go to place for baked goods! I travel 40 minutes, but it's worth it! New owner is wonderful. He really cares about his business and customers! Cafe Piccolo is a great spot to meet friends for lunch, I've been doing so for about two years now and I always find the staff to be warm, friendly, and helpful. The food is delicious--freshly baked pastries, cookies, breads, and cakes, plus sandwiches too. There's nothing too fancy here, lunch selections are simple items like tuna salad or cream cheese on a bagel, occasional specials of grilled cheese, and excellent coffee. But everything is fresh and the sandwiches are made to order. Try the apple-filled, horseshoe-shaped pastry--flaky exterior and filled with tender, just-sweet-enough apples. They have just finished a major renovation and the place looks great, clean and modern. Prices are very reasonable and it's a lovely, casual environment that is a real comfort. read more

I really wish people would leave more reviews when they are happy with service than just when they are unhappy because this place is AMAZING and these reviews do not reflect what a great place it is! Everything is remarkably fresh and so delicious. The people who work here are so nice that they make you feel like you have known them your entire life. You will not find a better bakery than this one whether you are just popping in for a coffee or need a cake to feed your entire extended family. We order all of our cakes from here and have never once had anything that was less than out of this world delicious! My 80 year old Uncle who lives upstate makes me bring him an assortment of their cookies every time I visit because - and I quote - "they are the greatest cookies he has ever eaten". He actually stops conversations with me to say "hey leesh, those cookies in your town, they are the best things ever." You can't make this stuff up! So to all the angry customers who take out their frustrations on yelp, I am sure this place is not missing your business. Been going here for years whenever i want something for a special event. I usually pick out a big box of different pastries instead of a bday cake so everyone can get something they like. My favorites are their giant rainbow cookie slices, their rummy chocolate ganache, and they make great shortbread cookies that are filled with jam and slightly dipped in chocolate. Always a great variety, and they do a few seasonal desserts too. read more

I am happy to know that there is a traditional Italian bakery in the local area. I found a nice selection of pastries here, and the desserts I tried were tasty. The prices were a tad high though. I'm also a sucker for red and white twine wrapped boxes. This place is worth a try. read more

I've had pastries from Piccolo three times in the last 3 months. They are delicious, fresh and very special. By fresh, I mean that the cannoli are hard shelled, the napoleons are flaky and the lobster tails crunchy. And that are all high quality and well presented. They come in regular and miniature size, so you don't look like a gavone all the time. Plus, the staff is helpful, and even warm once you get to know them. Mahopac needs a good bakery ! This place is defiantly not it !! The only positive was the friendly lady behind the counter. The place itself is not warm or inviting , old and needs a major renovation. The way the sweets are presented in the case don't make them look appealing. I love macrons but these were tasteless and had a weird after taste. The cookies tasted old and again very tasteless. Are there any taste testers ?? There is nothing fresh and low quality products. I gave Piccolo's another try and i told them 3 times how i wanted the Birthday Cake, and once again they did what they wanted and not what i requested for 12 disappointed people. This place has completely gone done hill, they must have changed ownership or management cause the cake was made wrong and absolutely terrible, and they charged 27.00 for a beat cake. If i could give this place 0 stars i would. Its like eating a 5lb bag of sugar cake. No fudge and no custard, and they even added white icying inside the cake that i never ordered either....anything to cut corners and use the cheapest ingredients. I feel sick after trying a piece.....very disappointed. Absolutely horrible cake. read more

I absolutely love Cafe Piccolo. It is the only bakery that I will even go to in the immediate and surrounding towns. A good bakery is hard to come by - a good bakery with a friendly staff and reasonable prices is nearly impossible - until you try this place. They make everything fresh on a daily basis. You can walk in there at any given time or day and you will have a great selection of cakes/pies to choose from. Their shelves are also always filled with a huge variety of pastries and cookies. They always offer to personalize any cake you purchase, both in store and over the phone. With a pretty young staff, it's always a question about what kind of service you'll get. I have never ever had a problem there. Every person who has helped me has been so very polite and friendly; its a huge reason why I keep returning. The area doesn't have too many bakeries to choose from, and the other ones around are insanely overpriced, and frankly, not so nice to their customers. I left Piccolo recently with an amazingly delicious fudge cake and over 30 individual pasteries (cannolis, cream puffs, rainbow cookies, etc.) and my total wasn't even $35. I know they also serve regular foods - breakfast, etc. I can't say I've tried any of it as I use it strictly for the bakery when I'm in the area, but if the other food is anything like what I've had, then they are in good shape. You will not be disappointed by Cafe Piccolo. I always tell everyone about it and will continue to do so! read more

Ordered a cake for a co-worker's work baby shower and it was stale (We custom ordered it)! I was so embarrassed that I was "in charge" of the cake because no one really ate any of it. I've gotten cookies a couple other times from here that were also on the stale side. I love the coffee here, love the mom and pop style bakery, bagels are great. However, unless you are someone the manager knows personally or a male, you will receive a disgustingly rude lack of attention or even the basic manner to be acknowledged. I've been a customer here for years spending top dollar for a cup of coffee and never have gotten a "hi how's it going, how can I help you" greeting. The new owner sits in the cafe and does not even look at the customers walking in and has no idea who his customers are. Big lack of manners and gratitude at this place. read more

I purchased a cake and the cake part was dry and tasteless and the frosting much too sweet. Another recent trip there was no selection of fresh bread and the brownies were inedible. Well I was really looking forward to the pie but when we cut into it that evening there was something black in the center and some in the crust. I think it was mold. If I could give this negative stars I would have. The cakes are awful! I purchased a cake for my daughter's birthday and it was inedible. I was so embarrassed and felt so badly the cake for her party was not even worth the time to put on the candles. I ended up running out for another cake at the A&P so we could serve desert.
