Grabbed coffee and breakfast sandwiches here while out running errands. We were lured in with the promise of vegan breakfast sandwiches and blended drinks. I didn't really enjoy the ordering process here. They have a menu board, but it only has standard coffee drink pricing on it. The food and "specialty" drinks are in a menu book. But it's counter service, and due to the layout, there is nowhere to stand out of the way. Our options were to sit down to look at the menu (meaning we weren't in line) or just be in the way. So we sat down and took less than 2 minutes to decide what we were ordering, but by that time, we were behind half a dozen people that had just walked in (no one was in line when we first walked in) that had clearly been here before because they knew the names of the food that they wanted without looking at the menu. When we were finally able to place our order, I ended up having to repeat it back to the barista approximately three times. Which is fine, I guess. I appreciate triple-checking that I did, indeed, order vegan sandwiches. But then I ended up waiting like 15 minutes for my to-go order (awkwardly, since the space is apparently difficult to navigate), only for the food to come out on plates. The cook was very apologetic and fixed it right away, but I have to wonder why they couldn't get it right after making me repeat myself so many times. There didn't seem to be any trouble with anyone else's orders, and we didn't make any adjustments to our order that would confuse things. So, onto the food and coffee. Our coffee was quite good! And both sandwiches (we tried both the Vegan Brighton and the Vegan Morgan) were delicious. I could honestly have both the coffee and the food every day. The sandwiches were larger than we were expecting (more like paninis than your typical brekkie sandwich), which was nice because I thought it was a little on the expensive side. The ingredients were fresh, everything was well-seasoned and cooked perfectly (cheeze was actually fully melted). The vegan "egg" was awesome - much tastier than "real" eggs. A lot of places don't bother seasoning their vegan "egg" but this place knows what's up. I would guess they use a chickpea flour base (not tofu) because it's really similar to something I make at home. Anyway, despite the frustrations with ordering, the food and coffee are worth coming back for. read more

Location and Respect. This little spot has a great location and respects the neighborhood it lives in. This respectable coffee shop brings a community together under the its little shelter on the corner of Othello & MLK. You can grab a quick pastry and good cup of rich flavorful coffee. The sandwiches I had were made to order and took a little time but I was happy for the great fresh quality. They plan community events and are open from dawn to dusk. As someone who has had a lot of coffee in various major cities around the United States I can honestly say that this is the best coffee I have ever had. I live in north Seattle but still go to cafe red at every opportunity because it's that good. They also have really yummy sandwiches and food options including vegan. read more

Lovely café right off the Othello station stop. It's unique building - a container - adds to its charm and also plays with the focus on social and environmental positivity. I went for a coffee tasting event and sampled some Filipino and Haitian coffees. They were good but not my favorite - this is a personal preference! However, I love their vegan offerings, especially the peanut butter malt cookie!! Overall, a solid location to grab coffee especially if you're with a group as their game selection is on point. read more

Great vegan options! I ordered the hashbrown patty and it was so good, it was not oily! The avocado toast was also delicious and the portion size was great. The vegan breakfast sandwich was my favorite, the pesto and tofu patty were really flavorful and it was nice to have a housemate patty and pesto. I ordered online and it was on time, the staff were friendly and kind, they also had a great outdoor patio. I'll definitely be back for breakfast again soon! read more

The little events that go late into the evening have been quite annoying. When you wanna come home and relax to a quiet evening you're greeted with bad rappers until 21:30. The food has slightly gone down hill and it seems like you can't go to the cafe without spending at least $25+. read more

Love Cafe Red! I had their sandwiches before COVID and loved those. We just tried their vegan breakfast wraps and sandwiches. Loved both the chorizo wrap and the sausage sandwich. The wrap is on the smaller side so you might want more than one. We loved the oatnilla drink and mac and cheese as well. This unassuming coffee shop was perhaps my favorite hang spot during my Seattle vacation. My only regret was that I didn't discover it sooner. Step out of downtown take the light link rail to the Othello station and you'll find a comfortable community spot that offers some great breakfast sandwiches (vegan and gluten free available) and specialized coffee (almond, soy, oat, etc available). The music was relaxing, service incredibly friendly, and they go out of their way to establish a local atmosphere. Hope to be back if I'm ever in the Seattle area. read more

This is one of my favorite cafes, and they recently transitioned from vegetarian to all vegan! The avocado toast and mac & cheese are my go tos! I also loved their vegan caprese before they had to reduce their menu. Though coffee is their primary, their food is on point and very affordable prices. This place is also so community-oriented, where one of the main chefs offers a plant-based food donation service out of the location for people in need of meals. They also featured BIPOC musicians and artists for events prior to the pandemic. I'm constantly impressed with what this life cafe comes up with and love to keep supporting them as much as possible to keep them going! read more

I discovered Cafe Red during COVID on UberEats. I was surprised to find that their whole menu is vegan! Their breakfast sandwiches are delicious and have a "yolk" in the "eggs". I like to add a hash brown patty in the sandwich. The avocado toast and their iced energy drinks are surprisingly tasty. The Mac and cheese is super rich and creamy. Their breakfast tacos are Austin style, and I order them as a snack in addition to my breakfast sammie. Delivery has been so great when I'm stuck in online classes all morning. Recommend anyone likes coffee or not to come. They are all about the community. The owners opened the coffee shop because they want this neighborhood to have a place not just for dining, but for people to gather and hang out. They even have an unofficial library there. They also have real dedication to make good coffee. But I think one of the two owners Jesiah is all about expresso. If you like coffee by itself, you know where you should go haha. Even for the cold brew they use a different method to bring more flavors out of the coffee. Anyways, you should come no matter if you are a coffee fan because you want to support a cool place like this. read more

Very nice quaint Café in the Othello Neighborhood. Tried their Horchata Latte with Soy and it was delicious. Most of the time when I order a Soy Latte, it gets to be too nutty tasting to me, however, this was right on the money and matched well with the taste of the Horchata. Ordered a breakfast sandwich, which came out really warm and tasty. They also sell a really spicy Habanero sauce that just gives you the right heat for your food. I bought a bottle from here. Go support local business!! This place also boasts using coffee sourced from other nations such as the Philippines and Haiti, I was curious about the Filipino Roasted Coffee (I'm Filipino and proud, but never had coffee from the homeland). However, they had just run out and would not be getting another shipment until the New Year. All the more reason to check them out again soon! read more

What started off as a coffee cart has turned into a fantastic local spot that understands community. Good coffee and teas, good sandwiches (panini style) and a great local business to support. I think the menu is full vegetarian with lots of vegan options. They have indoor and outdoor seating and they support local arts by hosting music, comedy, poetry events regularly. This is a cute little cafe. The staff is friendly and cheerfully answered my questions about the ingredients in their tea. They have vegetarian sandwiches with gluten-free bread as an option which tasted great. I liked the atmosphere with books and board games that you can borrow. Highly Recommend The Othello neighborhood has been missing a proper coffee shop and Cafe Red is here to save the day! I've yet to try the food here, but the coffee is the best around and blows Starbucks out of the water. Their drinks are not "heavy" with cream and sweetener as they seem to strike the perfect balance. The staff also informed me that they have special events like "game night" and I look forward to seeing what it's all about. Some nights I don't feel like taking the light rail downtown so this place would be perfect for some afterwork fun.
