Cash Only - When you first come in, there are signs posted around the restaurant with the cash only sign. If you don't have any, Bank of America is only a few minutes away by walking. 2. Parking - Around the busy plaza, there's 2 free lots. One on the side (gets super packed since it's shared by multiple businesses) and there's a back lot (park with caution in the evening). 3. Limited Menu - This place specializes in a few Viet dishes. So don't be surprised if it doesn't have the typical pho / broken rice / banh mi options. Instead, specialty of this place is more on the egg and rice noodle soup, the sizzling beef platter or the beef stew. 4. Limited Take Out - Depending on how busy this place gets, most of the time, there will be no option to do take out/ to go orders. Best to dine in if you want to eat here. 5. Food - I tried all the food options here and top 2 favorites are the Bo Ne (sizzling steak plate) and the hu tieu mi ñam vang (dry version with a bowl of soup on the side). Both are solid and always so yummy and consistent. 6. Service - Hit or miss... if you really need something during the busy lunch hour, it's best to either wave your arms crazily in the air for attention or simply walk up to the register and tell the staff what you need. When settling the bill, just head to the register and let the cashier know what table you're sitting at. Have since been back to Huong Que multiple times and it's really one of my absolute favorite restaurants in the city. I've brought friends and family here and everyone leaves raving about the food. I typically go for a late lunch on the weekend around 1PM and haven't had to wait to be seated. Tea comes complimentary and service is speedy. Bo Kho (4.5/5): Insanely tender braised beef rib served in an uber savory broth and thinly sliced onions to break through the richness. Bread is fresh with the lightest crunchy crust on the outside, but fluffier than a typical French baguette. A must get for sure. It's cash only and if you come on a busy day, there will be an awkward waiting situation in their little hall they have. Give them some grace trying to serve and feed everyone. Their dry noodles are amazing -- go in the morning and you'll see all the Vietnamese old heads going hard on them, so you know it's legit. Definitely a spot more known to locals as the entrance is sneakily located on the side facing Safeway rather than the side on the main road. Upon entry, you get that homey feeling where you know the food is going to taste very much like it were made at home and for that, the service was just the same. The Bo Kho (Beef Stew) with Egg Noodles comes with a side of Fish Sauce, Salt, and freshly cut Chillies. The broth was tasty and addictive but a lot sweeter than I'm used to. You wouldn't assume much of this spot from the outside, but I was pleasantly surprised by how satisfied I was after eating here. I came on a Sunday for lunch with a relatively large group (11 people), so we were split into two separate tables. I ordered the Hủ tiếu bò kho, a stewed beef noodle soup, along with a banh mi bread on the side. Importantly, for my noodle in the soup, I asked for half rice noodle and half egg noodle. Within 10 minutes, our whole table's order was delivered, which I thought was pretty reasonable given we had a large group order. While we were waiting, they delivered some condiments for my dish as well as for the broader table. I received some lemon, chili, and salt which was for my beef, and then they also gave us a fair amount of bean sprouts for all of the soups that were ordered. My hủ tiếu bò kho was fantastic. It was extremely savory with a slight sweetness from the stewed carrots and tomatoes. The meat was very tender, and when dipped in the salt-lemon-chili condiment, was spectacular. Both the rice and egg noodles were cooked perfectly. All of it together created a dish that was soothing to my soul upon every bite. Maybe because it was cold in Seattle, but I couldn't imagine biting into anything more comforting. Then the banh mi bread on the side, when The pricing is comparable to other noodle soups in Seattle, such as pho. You're not going to get exceptional service, but I wouldn't go into any real Vietnamese spot with that expectation to begin with. I like that the menu is small so you don't have to agonize over what to get. Prices are fair and food is hearty. I ordered the beef stew with bread, lots of beef (chunks) and though a few were tougher to chew, some were pretty tender. The baguette was fresh and warm where the crust was crispy and the inside immediately soft and chewy, and the beef was evenly flavored and tasty! The seafood noodle actually came with quite a bit of meat - very flavorful and full of umami. The portion size was perfect for both - not too much not too little. Typically I would give service a 4/4 but because it is better than your typical Asian hole in the wall I gave it 5/5 ;) Quick and polite and to the point and they offer free hot tea upfront like at dimsum. You can be in and out if needed. Very reasonably priced even compared to other hole in the walls and full of local Vietnamese people - very authentic. My parents brought me through the back door of this restaurant through the Safeway parking lot and let me tell you- that was some weird intro to a cute Vietnamese restaurant that serves stellar Hu Tieu Nam Vang (also known as Pork Seafood Clear Noodle Soup, a popular street food in Vietnam)! The restaurant seats 40 people and yes, they might awkwardly squeeze you in to sit with other folks at a communal table when it gets busy! My mom, whose an amazing cook and was a chef at a Vietnamese restaurant back in the days, recommended that I try the Hu Tieu but also applauds for the Bò Né (ducking beef which translates to ducking/avoiding the splatter of butter and oil as the beef is sizzling on a hot plate). I have to say the noodles are A+. It comes with a dish of bean sprouts, green lettuce, crown daisies and flat leaf chives. Mmm!! On the table there's red diluted vinegar, fish sauce, hot chili oil, hoisin, sriracha sauce. I mean they have it all! I would mix the fish sauce with a squirt of lime and red chili's together for a nice tangy dip of my pork heart/liver or belly meat.
