I've been wanting to try Cafe Rue Dix for a a while. This was my first time there. Decor was chic, thoughtful and minimal. Our server was kind and attentive. I was hoping to order their baobab juice, but they sold out. Their Thiebou Jen was suuuuper yummy, hardy and is especially perfect comfort for this freezing NYC weather. Would absolutely return.

This place has been on my list for a while and finally decided to visit on a Friday night. I did make a reservation - but it was also earlier in the evening - so it wasn't too busy. However, it did pick up a bit a little while after we arrived (I think you can easily get away with walking in with a smaller table). I'd never had Senegalese food before and wasn't sure what to expect. After this visit, there is no question why this place has such high ratings.   I want to start with my one and only complaint; service is slow. The staff make the place feel homey, but it was also only like 2 people working, so everything moved slower than anticipated. It would be great if they could get more help. Regardless though, the wait was worth it. I got the Yassa Guinar (chicken stew) over white rice and the Chocolate Lava Cake for dessert. God bless the chef and Senegal. That stew was spicy, ngl, but ohh it was so good. There is a side of onion confit included in the meal which elevates the dish beyond comprehension. I loved that meal. I'm all about trying something new whenever you go back to a restaurant, but I fear I may have to get that the next time I visit. The chocolate lava cake was a perfect sweet ending to the meal. Nothing beats a warm chocolate and cold ice cream. Perfectly balanced and not too sweet.   Thank you, Café Rue Dix, for this experience. I will be back again and again and again!

Wonderful place to sit down and enjoy a great meal . The gambas and the branzino is magnificent . Make sure to try the burger with blue cheese. And the hibiscus Marguerite . The staff is friendly and professional. There is bar seating and table but I would advise especially on weekends to make a reservation. On most Saturdays is the must hear and see DJ.

Like any good Brooklyn restaurant they did a good job of maximizing and decorating the space. I'm not familiar enough with Senegal to say it mimicked the culture but I knew I wasn't in 'Merica anymore. We went early on a Saturday and were seated quickly. Waitress was attentive and fairly knowledgeable about the menu and able to gain quick clarity on any questions. I was dining with a non spice lover so that mattered. My dining partner started with the ginger carrot soup. It was very aromatic and herby. She loved it. I ordered the tasting menu that started with Spicy potato nems. Basically a spicey white potato egg roll. Cooked perfectly but very peppery. 2nd course was a beet and goat cheese salad. Dressed nicely but not heavily. 3rd course was the Dibi Senegal which was fantastic. Smokey char on the lamb chop with 4 plump plantains and served on a bed of the best wilted kale I've ever tasted. Flavor bomb and highly recommend! The savory course finished with the Thiebou Jen - it wasn't my cup of tea. The flavor was there but stewed fish was way over cooked for me. My dining partner enjoyed it tho. My dining partner's entree was the thiebou yapp. Sweet heaven! Every bite was a succulent, savory burst in our mouths! A meaty lamb shank on a bed of seasoned rice with sautéed bell peppers and a side of diced pickles and tomatoes. I finished strong with the most perfect bread pudding that barely had a hint of sweetness. It came with clouds of whip cream and strawberries. It was so good. Light, fluffy, perfect finish. We will be back! Soo good.

This is a gorgeous space- covered in traditional west African masks and aesthetic , the bar is lit with gourd and cowrie shell pendants. And the menu carries classic Senegalese dishes- one of my favorite cuisines (my maternal side is Tunisian, so these flavors and combinations are magical for me). The waiter was wearing a handmade mask of his own- a paper form of matches coming out from his eyes - an invitation to be lit with ideas and inspiration and that is feeling here. Homemade gorgeous food- I had the spring rolls and my husband had the lamb: the rice, plain and sticky white, was delicious! Plantains were perfect and plenty of succulent lamb, and not too young so it's flavorful- the way it should taste. Don't order the filter coffee- it's not worth the effort- ginger juice was lovely however. Right next door is an African Marche- well curated and a delight to explore- vintage and new one of kind pieces for men and women and the gender released. Also home wares and a nail bar to boot! A perfect corner on crown heights-

My first time trying Senegalese food and I was very happy! Food: we tried the Thiebou Jen and the vegetarian stew! The Thiebou Jen was really well made and had a lot of different and interesting flavors! The stew was so delicious! I was surprised at how good this vegetarian dish was Ambience: a nice spot in crown heights with indoor and outdoor seating Service: I thought our waiter was a bit rude to us so didn't appreciate that Price: on the pricier end

Overall the food was good but was rushed to leave and got Charged for a Bouye that was handed to me by mistake.

I'm surprised after all these years I never wrote a review for Cafe Rue Dix. This restaurant will always have a special place in my heart - when I first moved to Prospect Heights in 2014, my neighboring friend who happened to live in Bed Stuy suggested this place as a central meeting spot. This was probably my second meal eating out after moving to NYC (with the first being Gladys - RIP!). The cozy atmosphere in the dead of winter, the lively atmosphere, and the superb service and food, has always been imprinted on my brain. Over the years, Cafe Rue Dix has served as an all-purpose restaurant for me. Perfect for brunch when no one can decide where to go, a stop for a bite after a trip to the museum, and a great place to meet up with friend(s). The seafood here is excellent, the fish fresh, and the portions are very reasonable for the price. This was my first introduction to Senegalese food - although I would say the menu is quite expansive, reflecting many American/traditional items, and with some French representation reflecting its colonial past. You can't go wrong at Cafe Rue Dix - if you haven't been here, definitely come check it out! It is a restaurant that has been in the neighborhood a long time, and I hope it will continue to thrive and people will support it!

The Kofta breakfast was good! The meat was flavored very well and eggs cooked to perfection. I really liked the olive part of the hummus & the pita was good too. The Touba coffee was very unique, but I really liked the spices and flavor of it! I'd get that again. My partner did the 2 eggs & toast-- that was cooked well too! The toast was really good and fresh and eggs were made with cheddar! The ambiance was really nice and exemplified the Senegalese culture, which made it feel very warm and welcoming. The service was good too, no complaints. I would come back to try dinner foods and the burger. Solid spot.

I haven't been here in a while, but im glad i came. Place is small but it seems larger than it is because of the open front. When its crowded you can feel it. The music and service was nice. We came here for HH and dinner. HH drinks were very basic and maybe had a 1/2oz of liquor between both drink. The Ginger Queen tasted like pineapple juice with Ginger essences and the other was Hibiscus both were very lack luster for $10 each. On the other hand the food was very tasty! I had the steak sandwich which was tasty and not too heavy. No one complained about the food. So if u want a good meal I do recommend.

Brunch was great! Though the spot is small it packs a lot of great food out. You must get the French toast. I also saw a man next to me eating the stew beef and he raved about it so I'm planning to try that on my next visit. They also offer hot tea in these lovely tea pots ( not pictured) and all the other food was great. The sauces tend to be a tad spicy but that's african food for you. It packs a punch.

Let me preface this by saying the food is delicious. The service was great. The restaurant is small but cute. The music is too loud for my taste. The reason for the one star is for the manager. I wrote to the manager several times as I wanted to host a Sunday brunch for twenty people. I called a few times as well but no response. That's when I decided to go directly to the restaurant. The day I went the manager was not in as of yet. The waitress had me write a note and she promised she would give it to him. Fast forward a few days and still no communication. I'll take my money somewhere else since this manager can't seem to communicate with potential customers.

I ordered the Mafe and it was so good. Felt like a much needed home cooked meal.

I don't have much experience with Senegalese food but after trying the Thiebou Yapp here, I'm very much a fun. Super traditional vibe which adds to the homecooked comfort style of the food. We started with a bag of small, cornbread-like buns that were slightly sweet and so delicious--perfect for snacking before the main dishes arrived. We also ordered two homemade drinks: the Senegal ginger drink, which had a bold kick to it, and the bouye drink, made from baobab fruit, which was creamy, slightly tangy, and refreshing. We'd never tasted anything like these. Both were unique and complemented the flavors of the food, which came out quickly. For our main dishes, we tried the Chicken Yassa, a traditional Senegalese dish of marinated chicken cooked with caramelized onions, lemon, and mustard. It had a wonderful tangy flavor with tender, flavorful chicken that literally fell off the bone. We also had the Thiebou Djen, the national dish of Senegal, which is a savory, tomato-based fish and rice dish cooked with vegetables like carrots, cabbage, and cassava. I opted for red jollof over yellow and loved the crispy parts. This dish was rich, hearty, and packed with flavor. We wanted to try the Fataya (fried fish or meat turnovers) but unfortunately, they were out. Despite that, we had more than enough food; we left feeling stuffed and still took home a large to-go container. The food came out quickly, and the staff was prompt with bringing water to the table. Overall, it was a great West African dining experience with generous portions and authentic flavors. We'll definitely be ordering their delivery!

Since we've never had Senegalese food, the decision to go there was no brainer. The interior of the restaurant looked like an art gallery, with paintings, carvings, handicrafts and photos from Western Africa. An old man (the owner?) received us. He recommended several vegetarian options for me, but I already had my heart set on the Okra stew. He then asked if I wanted Okra Tofu? I asked him if people in Senegal consumed Tofu? He said no, but customers had requested it, so they put it on the menu. (Who comes to a Senegalese restaurant and asks for Tofu?) I told him to not give me anything outside an authentic Senegalese diet. A few minutes later he came out of the kitchen to tell me that there was not enough okra stew left to form a main dish, but he'd offer whatever was there as a free side dish for me. So I went with his suggestion of Mafe Legumes (vegetables stewed in peanut butter sauce), while husband asked for the Senegalese national dish of Tiebou Jeun (baked fish). For the accompanying starch, I chose Funio, the Western African staple grain (again introduced by this wise old man). We also ordered Nem Legumes - vegetable spring rolls (I'd call them samosas :-)). Husband asked for a ginger drink. The ginger drink tasted like pure ginger juice (sweetened a bit of course) - it would certainly cleanse one's palate and warm one's stomach. The Nem Legumes were nice, but the winner was the stewed tomato dipping sauce that came with them. Our main dishes were served on large dinner plates. The portions were so substantial that I ended up packing half of my stew home, after stuffing myself unusually full already. There were chunks of yam, carrots and cabbage on my plate, flavored in a creamy and well-seasoned peanut butter sauce. But the winner was still the Okra stew - spicy, tangy, tasty. I also stole some Joloff rice off my husband's plate. It was another surprisingly delicious treat! His fish looked like a portion of a big carp, with quite a bit of bones to pick out (we don't mind fish bones, having been well trained in certain Asian cuisines :-)) Our bill, presented by a young waitress, came in a little basked covered by the broad hem of an African lady in a beautiful dress. The old man passed out table and said "oh yes she collects for us." For a meal of one appetizer, two mains, and a drink, the price was super reasonable!
