We will be coming back here! Delicious Mediterranean food. We sampled some rolled pistachio baklava at an open air market in Largo; and knew we had to go there for lunch. Thin sliced marinated chicken and or beef gyros were what we chose. The meat was perfect rolled into a super soft thin pita with lettuce and house made taziki sauce. So many things on the menu looked great! We are going to be back very soon! Located in a strip mall, has free parking, a store front with bakery items, a wine bar and a beautiful and comfortable dining area! Prices were super especially for the quality. Went there last night as part of a social activity for Sand Key Civic Association, Chris and Sue the owners were so accommodating, the food was excellent. The atmosphere was like sitting in a friend's home- warm and inviting. . It was great, and the wine went perfect perfectly with everything they served. I will definitely be back so will many of the people that went. Friendly, warm atmosphere and staff I highly recommend Sahara. Visited my brother in Florida. He took me to Sahar's and I am incredibly thankful that he did. The flavors were so perfectly balanced. Everything was fresh and you could literally feel the love that went into their cooking. I was blown away by everything by I tasted and I tasted a lot. The kibbeh, hummus, falafel, baba gandush, gyro meat, dolmas and the French fries were all fantastic. Yep, I tasted them all!! No overwhelming garlic ,or over salting,. I would take a bite and savor each unique flavor. Home made, freshly made, tastes from heaven. If you are a true Mediterranean food fan, please treat yourself and go to Sahara's. I am making my brother take me back here again before I fly back home to California. Now if I could only convince the restraint to ship food overnight to me back home. lol. OK Food, Lousy Service I arrived around 6:45pm and there was only one other party of two people in the restaurant. I was seated and offered water...and then I waited and waited, for water. Why? The restaurant is comfortable and somewhat classy as it is also considered a wine bar. The menu is very limited--much more so than what is on their website. And even some items on this small menu aren't available. Also, the prices are a fair bit higher than on the website. When the server eventually came back, I ordered a "wood-fired chicken" platter described on the website as "marinated and spiced kebab." My chicken pieces had no evidence of ever having been on a kebab nor having any char or other sign of being wood-fired. My chicken came with two sides and I chose salad and hummus. The chicken was reasonably tender and tasty, the salad was nice and the hummus was good. But nothing stood out. The portion size was OK with nothing for left-overs. One other party of two came in while I ate. My server must have been overwhelmed with their needs because she never came back to see how my food was or if I needed anything. About 10 minutes after I finished my food she came by and asked "do you need anything else?" I asked for a check which took a long time for her to deliver and then again a long time to accept my payment. Fortunately, I had something to read and no time commitment. Maybe the server also had to cook the food, wash the dishes and tidy the toilet (which was clean), but I doubt it. read more

My family heard great things about this restaurant from a person who is a good friend of the owner, so we decided to give it a try. We are well versed in Lebanese and all types of Mediterranean food as we have traveled the world, so we know what true Mediterranean food tastes like, and we do know the differences between Lebanese/Turkish/Greek, etc. We arrived about 6pm (they close at 8) and were greeted promptly and sat at a nearby table, and were given a carafe of water. We finally all decided on what we wanted and placed our order. This is where things go down hill a bit. We had a pretty long weight for our food, and while we realize things are made fresh, it was still a fairly long wait considering the restaurant wasn't too busy. Once we placed our order, we didn't see the server again until our food arrived. I will say, the cost for their platters (not sandwiches) are pretty pricey for the amount of food. We were recently in a far more costly city and prices were similar, but with far more food. The sides that were listed as a choice is only a choice for some platters though it says all platters get sides. If you get a sampler platter (listed under "platter") you get no sides, because the side options are on the sampler already. However, it listed that we got a side option with the platter we ordered, and honestly, I could have used a few extra sides because the amount of food was not a ton. I also had gastric bypass and was able to eat my entire meal, which is very unusual for me. The bread/"pita" that we were served with our meal was sad. I would't call it pita, as it was more like a flour tortilla, and not even warm. Like I said, Ive eaten all over the world and this was by far the worst "bread". Now, the rest of food tasted really good, and we greatly enjoyed our meals. While we were eating, however, we had to get up 3x to hunt down the server for more drinks, desserts, the check, etc. The server never came on her own to check on us, in fact she stayed on the other side of the restaurant where we couldn't even flag her down without getting up and walking to the other side. When we got up the first time for more water, a woman who was not our server very RUDELY asked, "do you need more water?", as if we were bothering her. She very rudely brought a bottle over, and she was not happy that we asked for more of the other drinks that were not water. She just walked away. Eventually the original server came to get our other drinks. When it came time to pay, we also wanted to see a dessert menu, there isn't one, but she told us what we could choose from. It would be much better to have it written down for guests to read and choose. The baklava was good, but the tiramisu was still very frozen, even after a drive home (we took our desserts to go). Our total was close to $200 and no one took left overs home. We were pretty taken aback by the rude lady and poor service, so went to read reviews when we got home and the response from the business is just appalling. The business cannot take constructive criticism well and lash out at any and all negative reviews. They seem to have a personal issue with the Turkish restaurant next door and therefore accuse everyone of "hating" them, and saying most bad reviews are some secret sabotage by their nearby competitor. Let me say, I have never eaten at the Turkish restaurant, nor am I out to "hate" on anyone. The negative reviews all have common issues; the biggest two being the rudeness/poor service and cost of food for the quantity. When multiple guests have the same issues, the restaurant needs to take a hard look at the issues instead of telling the customer that we are all wrong or accusing customers of lying. Along with our experience and the owner's anger in any critique online, we will not be returning. I will edit this if/when the owners reply, because Im sure this review will not be well received. ETA: the owner replied on google that I had an agenda. First what would be that agenda? I came excited to try a place highly recommended. Your replies to others were seen AFTER our visit! We tried this place for the first time and loved the food! We split a Greek salad which was chopped and very good. Then out came out main course which we also split. The platter was the beef, rice and humus, they also brought out a basket of very thin like pita bread. And for dessert we had a special cookie, I had the pistachio and d as he had one filled dates and walnuts! Very very good and so satisfying!!! I have been to Dubai multiple times and fell in love with Middle Eastern/Mediterranean foods. I saw many wonderful reviews and gave it a try. Oh my gosh! AMAZING! A friend came along and knew nothing about the food. The server was awesome in explaining the different dishes. The place is so beautiful where you could be casually dressed or nicely dressed. Let's get to it , first the falafel it was crispy on the outside soft on the inside. The seasoning was perfect and the aromas wafted through my nostrils. This was exceptional falafel, definitely dip it in the tzatziki and if your feeling adventurous mix the hummus in for a treat. Spinach pie was a slightly acidic cheese with slow cooked spinach to bring out its flavors. Expect a very intense spinach flavor and a little tartness and savory. The kibbeh pita is very good , tender , flavorful with the right textures and just wonderfully balanced with the vegetables and hummus inside. Called in an order on a Saturday afternoon - they were closing soon. The owner was so sweet, she stayed open for us and made our order to go. They make everything from scratch which is awesome. We ordered two Greek salads, a chicken wrap and one chicken skewer. The salads are huge! My only complaint is lots of peppers - I'm not a pepper fan so I'll need to hold the peppers next time. If you like peppers, you're in luck. Plenty of tomatoes, olives, feta and homemade mayo-less potato salad. The skewer was fresh and flavorful and I was told it's organic chicken. What a hidden gem! Tucked away in a strip mall off E. Bay in Largo, we found some of the freshest & best tasting Middle Eastern food around. Everything was made to order. The falafels came out so crispy & light with super soft pitas to wrap them in. Add a side of nutty tahini and housemate hummus and you have the perfect bite. My falafel platter was served with one of the best taboulehs I've ever had and my husband love his classic Gyro. Oh and the pistachio baklava is a must try. I decided to redo my review from a year ago because our experience here this afternoon was exceptional. We ordered everything online through their interface and it worked well. I got to the restaurant 10 minutes early but the proprietor was engaging and whipping up all our food fresh, from scratch in an open spotless kitchen. It was incredibly clean. We had a nice chat and she showed me their Best of the Bay awards and I told her I was impressed. Also, I was impressed by the style and decor of the restaurant. It's really quite stunning for a medium size restaurant in a strip mall. Check it out! Our food, when we got it home, has all been delicious. My wonderful wife ordered toum which is a native Lebanese garlic sauce. Toum literally means garlic in Arabic. She loved it and we received a great portion. We've even made this at home in the past. I would nominate this spot for the best Mediterranean food in Clearwater. The falafel is done so beyond perfectly that it will change the way you think about falafel. Spinach pie was super flavorful and soft. Kibbeh Kabob pita wrap was also really good and introduced me to a new flavor profile I have not had before. Pistachio baklava id give a 9.2 rating. This is the BEST restaurant in all of Tampa. Every time I eat here or take out, it is absolutely to die for. Hands down, this is the most flavor food around. Everything is fresh and hand selected from wherever they buy and you taste it every bite. Hummus is amazing cold or warm (if they just made it). The lentil soup is so good you'll think they used bacon even though it's vegan. Falafel is excellent and crispy. Gyros are delicious. Grape leaves are out of this world. Their chicken and rice is beyond flavorful. The homemade desserts are incredible; their baklava is the best bar none. Really great family that makes you feel like family. Cafe Sahara is my absolute favorite place to go when I am craving Lebanese / Middle Eastern types of food. I haven't had one thing from there that wasn't amazing.
