The Cuban sandwich was exactly what you hope for -- crispy bread, perfectly pressed, packed with flavor, and the kind of sandwich that makes you pause mid-bite and just nod at the person across from you like "yep... this was the right decision." The Cuban burger was also fantastic -- juicy, flavorful, and big enough that you start questioning whether you should have skipped breakfast. The area around the restaurant was great too. Nice vibe, good energy, and perfect for walking around before or after eating... which you will probably need to do after finishing that burger. The servers were good -- friendly, attentive, and thankfully didn't judge us for attacking the food like we hadn't eaten in three business days. Overall the place has a fun atmosphere, great Cuban comfort food, and the kind of menu that makes you want to come back just to try the things you didn't order the first time. Service was good all evening from an outgoing waiter, this place was great for people watching (we were seated at a high top on the sidewalk in front), the food was good and the prices were reasonable, especially considering that Espanola Way is one of the most touristy areas on already touristy Miami Beach. I had the signature roasted chicken ($28) and my husband the Cuban churrasco steak ($42) and both included sides. We also had a glass of wine each and again, wine prices were reasonable. While we don't tend to eat in this general area often as it is so touristy which usually equals lackluster food and service at high prices, Havana 1957 was just fine. I'd happily return here.

I had the Medianoche sandwich, which gets its name from the urban legend of it being to "go to" food to satisfy your midnight hunger in pre-Communist Cuba. I also had a mango "batido", that uniquely Cuban jewel that magically comes out of the blenders of places like this. Talking about mango... you can also walk away with a large container of freshly cut mango for about $10! The perfect strolling fruit to eat as you walk by all the other cool spaces around the area!
