The lack of care in scrambling the eggs and wrapping them in a fresh flour tortilla was disappointing. The restaurant was empty, yet what I received was a microwaved burrito. Wrapped tightly in parchment paper, it was extremely hot, but when I opened it, I realized it had been frozen, quickly defrosted in the microwave, and then tossed in a pan. The burrito was dry and stale definitely not worth the $9 price tag. It was small, almost like a hot pocket. I won't be returning to this place. Coffee was okay.

I decided to take a trip to the retail location of Rich Port Coffee down the street from Selden Market. The retail location is located on the corner of the ground floor of the office building at the corner of West Main Street and Boush Street. It offers all the wonderful coffee drinks, cold bevs, baked goods and some merch like popcorn from Puerto Rico and hand painted coffee percolators. Rich Port Coffee started out as a wholesale roaster in Selden Market (where the roastery remains) and then they opened the retail location last year. - Parking - There is metered parking on the street and various parking garages nearby. Don't quote me on this, but there may be free parking spaces in front of Boush Street. - What I got - I was looking for a bag of their roasted coffee and at the time of my visit, there were 1lb bags of roasted whole bean coffee from El Salvador, Colombia, adn Puerto Rico. Since the owners are from PR (hence the name, Puerto Rico = Rich Port), I decided to get a bag of the PR beans, because that is not a country you see very often. They are in different colored bags and have cute little flag dots to identify the coffee. Since it was whole bean, and not everyone has a coffee grinder, Mia, the owner, offered to grind it for me. This was super nice and convenient, as they have a way better grinder than I do! The bag cost be about $20, but at the time of this writing, they are running a special, that if you buy a 1lb bag of coffee beans, you get a free 12oz drink. Since it was 88F today, I opted for an iced mocha and it was just the afternoon pick-me-up that I needed! Rich Port Coffee is a little hidden, but conveniently located at the corner by Todd Jurich Bistro and the Nauticus! Stop on by as they have awesome drinks, goodies from small local businesses like Smores Amore and others. Enjoy, Friends, and never stop exploring!

It's just a few feet away from my house and I can walk here and it's so easy to order. They give you a number when dining in and bring your food to the table. You can always do takeout too. It's pretty busy in here, but everybody kind of keeps to themselves sometimes as loud if I'm feeling like I don't wanna be around people I can always take it to go.

I brought a guest to show them this 'wonderful and attentive' coffee gem I had found. When I first visited this shop it seemed to be a gem: a place I would hopefully frequent. However, the more I would visit the less I was impressed by the customer service. On this last visit I became enthralled in a heated argument over the makings of a macchiato. I requested the macchiato with white chocolate syrup. I imagined this would provide the energy I need from the espresso but, not taste so harsh with the white chocolate flavor. The Barista repeated my order incorrectly, "white chocolate mocha." I didn't want a mocha. Nor did I ask for one. I reiterated macchiato, paid and waited. I was unsurprisingly presented with a white chocolate mocha, which was too sweet. I gave the barista the benefit of the doubt and requested a macchiato, with added white chocolate syrup. She proceeded to tell me I didn't know what a macchiato was, and she needed to know my version of it. I informed her a macchiato was espresso with a little steamed milk. However, in addition I would like it if she could add white chocolate syrup. Most times customer service personnel are trained to deescalate situations, not create the escalation. The Batista told me, "I don't know how Starbuck's does it but I won't do that." She repeated that sentence 4 times followed by, "I don't know what you want me to do." I wanted her to make my espresso beverage, which didn't happen. I was also repeatedly 'informed' that I didn't want a macchiato. I was always under the impression that customer service didn't mean trying to force and undesired item on a paying customer. It's disappointing that this was the first impression I could give my mother of this establishment after praising it so much. read more

I hate that I have to write this review. I was harassed by an employee. This is a typical coffee spot that I come to regularly because I love the atmosphere and it's overall a great cafe. I always spend money here Unfortunately, today I had an experience where one employee kept coming up to me pressuring me to buy something less than 10 minutes of me being here, I said I would later but then minutes later he keeps coming back up to me making a scene. He was very disrespectful and the employees are giving off micro racism. Also says " act like an adult and just leave" They now said I'm trespassing, and then another coworker comes over and says "This is not a library ( even though everyone has their computer open) , the worker then proceeds to tell me to go to the library, that their "wifi" isn't free. Very bad experience here and sadly I won't be coming back to where I'm not wanted. I am a loyal customer here and it's sad that this is their character here. These employees really showed their true colors. Don't feel comfortable at all coming back here. I'm the only BLACK person they did this too in a building full of people and they are only coming up to ME. Even though I told the people I would buy stuff later they keep harassing me and says I am now "trespassing" which is insane. Definitely won't be coming back. Will not come back EVER. I sent SOOOOO much money there and I love supporting business but this was too far. Train your employees! They are disgustingly rude. To call the cops for no reason because I didn't purchase something in 10 minutes is disgusting. read more

Cafe Stella began for me as a convenience but evolved into a slight obsession. It is an excellent coffee house, and a good place to have drinks and relax. The coffee and espresso is all roasted in-house and is excellent. The food is also excellent; the portions are more European sized but make great eating and I often find myself having dinner there. All the food is made at the cafe and from scratch. The beer selection is small but very high quality, and the wine selection large, varied, and superior to many restaurants. Whatever people say about the owners, they have been nothing but helpful to me and grateful for my patronage. They will never kick you out after closing, and will let you sit and use the internet to your heart's content (though you'd be rude to abuse this and not buy anything). There have been some former employees that have gone on rants about the store, but I encourage you to to try it for yourself, without preconceptions. I think you will be pleasantly surprised. And if you want to argue about it, come and talk to me in person; I'm usually there, most days, after 4pm. I've become a regular. read more

Stella!! Love at first sight. Welcome to Norfolk's (I'd venture to say the entire area's) finest coffee and tea shop. Being the only one in the area that I'm aware of that roasts its beans on site, and having a pretty cool looking (see pic) Yama cold drip coffee brewer, Stella is what a coffee shop should be! I had the cold drip, considering it's a million degrees outside, and it was awesome. I'm normally a sugar and cream type, but this is delicious on its own. I was also tempted by their baked goods - they looked effing great! I had an apple muffin and it was perfect. The apples weren't soggy and the top crust was perfectly sweet and crisp. Someone knows their way around the kitchen! I also purchased an awesome kettle - they have a quaint retail section that sells items that have a rustic patina. They've only been open a week; however, this will hands down be the coffee destination for the greater Ghent and downtown area. I met the owners and they couldn't be nicer. Love!! read more

Cafe Stella is the kind of place that feels like a warm hug on a chilly morning. It's a solid four-star experience because the coffee is some of the best you will ever taste--rich, strong, and always made exactly right. The food is also incredible; everything feels handmade and fresh, and it's the place you go when you want a good breakfast or lunch. The atmosphere is super relaxed. It feels like a genuine, local spot, not a big chain, and everyone working there is friendly and welcoming. You feel instantly comfortable sitting down with a book or meeting a friend. The only reason it doesn't get a perfect five stars is that everyone else knows how good it is, too! It is smaller in size, which can lead to crowdedness, especially on weekend mornings. The decor is vet eclectic... I'm nice... The own declares his wife's hoarding is loved and embraced!!! Ha!!! If I hadn't met the owner I would have lowered my review for the decor, but this is a fabulous place! The owner and staff were wonderful! Fun and totally being themselves... Not pretentious or standoffish. The desserts are delightful! Definitely sweet, but they are desserts right! ;) The coffee is very good! I got the lavender mocha and it was a brilliant surprise and I normally hate mocha. I got this because of the novelty of lavender in a coffee drink. I would love it a little less sweet but I like strong drinks. Like Starbucks makes my teeth hurt. Any who, this is a great place. They do events, have live music and are family friendly. If I could leave zero starts I would. The owner is a very nasty distasteful man. He treated me very poorly, I am not one to play the "race card" but it appears the he may be a racist. Though this one little review won't do much, if you do read this and are a POC you're best off going to another more friendly and inclusive establishment because Cafe Stella is NOT THE PLACE TO GO. Prior to this experience I have enjoyed cafe Stella but after meeting the owner and being treated so poorly I will never spend money with this business again. Great coffee and great people. It's disappointing that a few disgruntled customers seem to be trying to trash a small business because they got their feelings hurt (for which the owners have apologized). I've been here many times and have never had anyone working at Cafe Stella be rude to me. (I have seen some customers being rude to the owners, however, but I'm not reviewing customers). The food is good, the coffee is excellent, and the people are wonderful. I highly recommend this place. read more

Did not get into the FB ranting, as I dont care. I do think this place is over rated and extremely inconsistent in the quality of the food and drink, but the service is the most unacceptable aspect. I dont expect to be treated like a regular, but as I am a paying customer - I DO EXPECT to get what I order with no hassle, arguments or insults. There are too many places to eat and drink in Ghent, and I suggest people check the other places before wasting their money here. read more

I've given cafe Stella a shot a few times and to my surprise each time the employees are terribly rude. It almost feels like upon entering the building your being judge on whether your worthy of drinking in their coffee shop. They employee that made my drink didn't even really acknowledge me other than her "what do you want?" attitude. The coffee was good though. Returned even after being treated like trash and belittled by owner because I turned a job down from him as the quality wasn't up to the standards that I'd out my name towards. The owners of this establishment are notorious in the local business community for being nasty, rude and hateful towards anyone who disagrees with them or has a bad experience at their shop. There are so many better places, owned by kind and generous people, to get coffee in the Ghent/Downtown area of Norfolk. Do NOT go here. read more

My boyfriend and I go to Cafe Stella at least twice a week. The owner is not only hospitable but also really funny! He treats his customers like family friends! I've been about 5 times and walked out happy every time. I get the brown rice bowl to go for a healthy delicious lunch, but have also indulged in their gluten free brownie (believe me when I tell you it does not taste gluten free) and their french toast (must try). There's barstool seating at the countertop facing the grill and a few chairs at a carved wooden tabletop facing the large window. RoJo Coffee also has some outdoor seating options under a large tree. The menu is very impressive with specialty lattes and teas, and energy drinks, too. The breakfast and lunch menu offers a variety that's sure to please everyone's taste buds. I truly enjoyed the Belgian Waffle that comes with their house made mixed berry compote and powdered sugar, along with pure maple syrup, and house whipped cream. I liked how the chilled compote, syrup, and whipped cream were served in separate containers so that I could dip! Nice touch! The Belgian Waffle was fluffy and tasty! I also enjoyed my choice of The Lola (White Snickerdoodle Latte) specialty latte with oak milk (extra charge) that features white mocha, cinnamon & vanilla. My husband really liked his order of the Breakfast Burrito with bacon, noting how tasty their house salsa was. His specialty latte was The Moose which is their honey roasted peanut latte (toasted marshmallow, peanut butter & honey). Our orders were taken by the mother of one of the owners. She was very friendly and pleasant, telling us to take our time looking over the menu. She pointed out the month of May specials, and you could tell how happy she was to support this small business. We struck up a conversation with a wonderful mother and daughter visiting from Wisconsin. During our chat, the daughter shared that she was getting married later today. It was one of those unexpected moments that reminds you how enjoyable simple conversations with complete strangers can be. The parking was very limited so I parked across the street in a private, parking lot, since I knew I was coming right back out. I was greeted as soon as I walked in and the staff were very nice. After looking over the menu, I decided on the Brown Sugar Vanilla Latte and the Ham & Cheese Croissant. While I waited, I couldn't help but notice how nice the coffee shop was. They have a small seating area where I noticed a few people working while enjoying their coffee. My latte and croissant were very good. This spot seems like it's popular to the locals. There's board games too. From downtown, you can take the LRT to the last stop and then walk on the bike/pedestrian path here, it's a pleasant walk.
