2 stars because I wanted to like this place, but it just wasn't it. First off, if you're not into natural wine, this is probably not your spot. The selection is very niche and pretty limited, so keep that in mind going in. The bigger issue was the overall experience. It was packed, like uncomfortably crowded outside, and was so hot inside that it made it hard to enjoy anything. Service didn't help either. We waited patiently because it was busy, but when we finally asked if we could order, the waiter told us it would probably be faster to go to the bar, lol, which came off dismissive. Between the crowds, the heat, the limited menu, and the unfriendly service, it just didn't feel worth it. Maybe if you're really into natural wine and don't mind a chaotic, packed scene you'll enjoy it, but I wouldn't come back. read more

My husband and I were on an evening stroll and decided to stop in at Cafe Triste when we walked by on Super Bowl Sunday. We came in about an hour after they opened and other than some patrons in the front patios, we had the bar to ourselves for the first twenty minutes of our visit before it started to fill up. The ambiance is so warm and cozy, and I think this would be a great date spot or a spot to catch up with your friends. All of the staff we interacted with were really lovely. I did not catch her name, but our waitress had amazing energy. We decided to do the "Dealer's choice" for our wine by the glass and our waitress brought us a very interesting French Pinot Noir! I can't say I've had a wine like it before, but it was a delightful experience. The wine list here isn't super extensive, but I do think this neighborhood spot is worth the visit. Cute wine bar. I love the outdoor seating, who knew enjoying some wine while on the side walks of Chinatown could be so nice? We shared some wine and the octopus entree and bread. The octopus was *chefs kiss*. I think the service could've been more helpful with suggestions or advice on the wine menu, but overall was pleasant. Cafe Triste is perfect! The Monday night jazz show was absolutely phenomenal. We started off with glasses of wine as we are relatively new to wines and weren't sure which one we'd like to get a bottle of. My friend got a "pink" wine and I ordered an orange. Both were beautiful choices but the winner for both of us was the pink. It was a nice well priced bottle. The server was so kind with our questions and attentive. We immediately asked for the bread and butter with cornichons and he was able to snag us a piece. The bread was lovely and soft and the BUTTER... it was perfectly salted and tasted amazing. The second I walked in this cafe there wasn't a welcoming vibe. the male worker and short hair girl worker were already judging me. I asked if I would use the restroom and the male worker instantly laughed and said "heh nope, nope, nope". Like bro just say no. So I paid for the cheapest drink there, then I was able to use the restroom which I had no issue with. However after I went to the restroom, my drink was GONE. One of the workers took my drink (the short hair girl). She had already put it away... But it was okay because she did serve me another one after. When I left the cafe with my group of friends waiting outside, I looked back and I saw all the workers eyes on me, as if they were just talking about me. Overall, horrible experience, mean and judgy workers, unwelcoming vibes. Wine selection is good - if you can, try getting a bottle with friends as the bottle selection is more diverse than the wine by the glass. Cafe Triste is the perfect spot to catch up with friends! It is an excellent addition to Chinatown. The staff is very knowledgeable on the wine selection and make great recommendations. It can get pretty busy so I would recommend getting in a little earlier at like 7 or 7:30 pm to avoid the crowds and grab a bottle of wine and some bites. The ambience is fantastic and I think it is the perfect spot for a bestie date! With the longer summer nights and the outdoor patio, it is beautiful to catch golden hour at Cafe Triste. Cafe Triste was a great late night stop on a Saturday. The vibe was relaxed and easy, exactly what I was looking for. I ordered a French ale and it was excellent, very artisanal and well made. A cute little wine bar in Chinatown. Cafe Triste is apparently more iconic of a spot than I could've expected. I don't know what we drank but I know it was good. They focus on natural wines and bites, but they should really focus on getting idk maybe food heating equipment because what was the butternut squash doing so cold and sad? It made me feel like I was eating from an almond mom kitchen but I get the vibe. I might've made the same butternut dish if I was really drunk and proud in my own kitchen but I definitely wouldn't go out to eat that. It was creative but not it. If it was warm I wouldn't cry. Cafe Triste is a perfect spot for a wine night! There's lots of street parking after 6 PM, plus a paid structure right next door, making parking easy. The vibe is trendy and minimal, and the staff is super friendly and knowledgeable about natural wines--they recommended the perfect wine for us. Definitely try the olives! The wine was tasty and somewhat funky, as expected from 0/0 no intervention additive style of winemaking. Service at the bar was informative and was clearly highly knowledgeable about the wine. I really appreciate the option for half glass pours so I can taste more variety. Food was average. The okra rice tasting bland even after adding cracked black pepper but I did enjoy the rockfish although just a nice expected dish without being remarkable. Cafe Triste is such a bad name for this place. It is so fun and vibey. Not sad at all. This wine bar is like entering into a French arthouse romance movie. The wines are unique and on rotation. The food is so good. They have like three ingredients but boy do they pack a punch. They are small though and about the price of a meal elsewhere so don't come if you're starving. They do not try to flip tables so you can stay here forever. Probably one of the best date spots in LA. read more

I love Cafe Triste! It is the perfect resturant if you don't want to deal with getting a rez somewhere, waiting for a table, dealing with insane parking. I would take anyone visiting to LA here, since its out if the main Silverlake strip but still cool. Defintely getting scenier by the day, so go here before it gets crazy busy. They always have hearty and yummy food, with a great assortment of cheeses. Their wine list is perfect if you love a funky natural wine. The one thing I will say is that the waitstaff isn't the warmest. Thats okay though because they are cool and wear cool outfits and have cool tattoos. read more

Cafe Triste is a great addition to the Chinatown scene. I was introduced to Cafe Triste through S as its his favorite wine bar in all of Los Angeles. It's location is in a former furniture shop and is also the wine bar of Psychic Wines. Triste surprisingly, also has a seasonal small bites and entrees menu that is delicious. Their kitchen is quite small but somehow, they're able to cook up such delicious meals. S is a big fan of their bread. Triste serves a lot of bio-dynamic, skin contact kind of wines. Usually, we get a bottle of whatever wine (based on type e.g. white, red) they have available when we're here with friends. When it's just a few of us, we usually grab something off of the "by the glass" menu. Staff is usually very informative of the wines that they're serving. Half the time, I just ask what they are drinking currently and get a glass of that. It can get really busy here. But it's the best place to sip wine with friends on a warm summer night! read more

Came here to meet someone for a drink. Interesting location in Chinatown. Ample street parking is always a plus. I was into the nondescript generic entrance. Entry opens onto the bar area which is dimly lit, good for evening ambience. We were sitting at a corner table in the back, which I typically prefer, for privacy and coziness; however, one thing I'd really recommend the owners change is the lighting. While the table side candles are typical and perfect for secondary moody lighting, the overhead down lights totally ruined the vibe. Sorry I'm big on this. It was too harsh and direct and took away from the intimate ambience. I don't know why it bothered me so much...I kinda felt like being interrogated. As for the window menu, I'm not typically one for natural wine but it was actually quite nice, what I had tried. Plus, I'm such a sucker for a menu that's limited and pared down - I think there were only 4 or 5 selections to choose from. overall, I would come again but choose a different table or seat...but that's just me. read more

Came in for a glass of wine and a few bites of food because Oriel was closed (which is fantastic btw) and this place was close by. I get that you're a natural wine place, but everything by the glass was funked, way too acidic. Pet nat was gross, I asked the girl who begrudgingly worked there if she could help us pick something that wasn't too acidic and she said "sorry we dont have anything". lol ok. Ordered prosciutto, salami, and a few cheeses (maybe $70 worth?) and it came with 2 slices of bub and gmas bread which was cold. I asked her if she could toast it and shes like "im not sure we can do that" while im literally looking at their toaster oven in the kitchen. Who doesn't toast bread? The som or manager dude stepped in and got us sorted and then recommended a pretty fantastic bottle. That dude was amazing and so was his rec, but overall the experience was 0/5 and I will never go back. Also don't order the olives they suck. Warmed up whole black "pizza olives". gross. There's a bunch of other places in LA where you can burn $150 on a less than mediocre charcuterie experience and a bottle. Don't bother coming here. read more

I returned for an Art Exhibit on Saturday evening and the near by restaurants all had long lines and I didn't really want to wait and notice this place across the street from the motel where I was staying. I was originally put off by the Furniture Store sign, but I was curious enough to cross the street to check it out. I was a little put off by the limited menu, but decided to give it a try anyway, I selected the Braised Brisket with Carrots and was presently surprised by how delicious and tender it was. I decided to order a glass of red wine which was highly recommended by the server. It added to the enjoyment to my meal. I would call the ambiance "funky Downtown LA", which I thought was "cool" for this little wine bar. I highly recommend this place for the food and the nice atmosphere. The small tables add to the intimacy. I glad was place was near by or I would have missed out on something special. I'd make a special trip to return for another place of the Brisket. read more
