The brownie was a bit too sweet for me but it was good as well. What stood out for me was the Mexican clay mug; very nice decor ... Delicious food and large portions. They have outdoor seating as well, and a tent for when it gets cold.

My partner and I wanted to try out a new coffee place and we chose this one. So happy we did! I love their drinks and muffins. My favorite is peppermint matcha latte. Ridiculously slow service. Waited 20 minutes for them to make two chicken sandwiches while half the staff were just standing around. They didn't even tell me it was going to take an excessive amount of time when I placed the order in the restaurant (for pick up). read more

Cafe Urbano is the only neighborhood coffee shop within a couple miles, and we're very grateful to have them. It's a bright unique spot in the neighborhood, serving as a local gathering place which fosters community. The menu and hours may be limited, but they are providing something much more than coffee and a quick bite to eat for this underserved area. Stopped in on a Saturday morning, there were 3 friendly staff members, and we got our 2 paninis in 10 minutes. They greeted us and said goodbye when we left. Definitely not understaffed as in the past. Burritos/wraps/paninis are made to order from scratch. Cafes are for hanging out in and relaxing, and Urbano has a colorful, laid-back atmosphere to do just that. It's not fast food, everything is made to order. McDonalds is right down the street if you're in a big hurry. The Urbano and Veggie paninis were very tasty and fresh. $8-9 for a specialty sandwich is the going rate this decade in Chicago, so it's not all that expensive. They have rotating specials as well, which have always been good. This is my go-to cafe for coffee in Irving Park, and Howard Quintero is my #1 brunch spot. This is a great neighborhood cafe, all the entitled complainers on here lately need to check their unrealistic expectations. Who cares if they don't give you free salad anymore or didn't thank you profusely with a fake smile? Who eats salad for breakfast anyway? Businesses don't make money giving away free food. To those with legitimate issues, i'd recommend speaking with the management. Seems pretty straightforward as a general rule. read more

Passed by this area and saw the sign. My husband and I were hungry and wanted to try the place out. First I really like the look of the cafe. It reminded me of Pilsen mixed in with some Island life look (reminded me of a cafe in Kauai HI last time I was there). I was really digging the look of the place. Local art hanging around and I saw on their calendar that they have a yoga night too. How awesome is that?! Food: I ordered the breakfast burrito which was eggs, chipotle gouda, avocado, and tomato in a tortilla wrap, then grilled panini style. Very tasty and filling. yum. Washed it down with a sweetened Cafe con Leche which was solid. Would have liked it a bit stronger but maybe Ill just get a shot of espresso as a topper. It came with a little side salad that was perfect! great combo and for the price? you can't beat it. The guy at the front was nice, welcoming and I like that! non pretentious atmosphere that serves solid food and java with local art that I can appreciate. Will visit there again. read more

My review score is based on how they didn't handle a problem they have with Grubhub. I ordered a side soup and was charged for it even thou when I picked up the order they explained that they don't do soup anymore and that I had to call Grubhub to get my $2.00 refund...what I have to call to fix your problem, not cool. This cafe is exactly what this neighborhood needed! They keep saying this is their "soft opening" so they are still solidifying their menu etc, but so far it's really great. The Abuelita Mocha is just different enough and not overbearingly sweet that I like it (and I'm a black coffee girl.) The Burrito Panini is AWESOME and comes with the best little salad. The Tuna Salad Tostada seems a little crazy, but try it anyway... It's surprisingly tasty. The music is always good and dang is that place cute on the inside! Bonus- the guys who run this place are super friendly and pretty cool people. read more

I really want to like this place because it's just over a 10 minute walk from my place and carries 3 different popular coffee brands... but the customer service is severely lacking. I first found out about Cafe Urbano from a friend who stated that the coffee is better than Finom, but that the service is terrible... and I have to agree. My first visit I ordered two coffees and a sandwich. The drinks came out within 10 minutes, but after nearly 20 minutes of waiting, my boyfriend asked about the sandwich, to which they said that they had a lot of mobile orders ahead of his and it would be out shortly. For a coffee shop that doesn't really come across as a "sit down" kind of place, you should tell a guest when a sandwich is going to take more than 20 minutes. We wouldn't have ordered it had we known. My second visit wasn't remarkable in anyway. Today was my third visit where I ordered ahead on the joe app and arrived to them stating that they did not have my order. I showed them my receipt then had to wait until they finished up all the other drinks, they asked my order again and I received it almost 10 minutes after arriving... after a 10 minute walk. So again, nearly 20 minutes. No apology, no answer as to why my order wasnt received, and not a thank you. read more

I am reluctantly writing this reviewing because I truly believe in supporting small businesses, but I also believe restaurants should strive to maintain a good product. I hadn't been to CU in a while and decided to grab a "quick" sandwich on a Sunday morning. Long review short, my one sandwich order this past Sunday morning, the only sandwich order of the 4 customers in the cafe, took 14 minutes, and I was served semi raw bacon on my sandwich. Great little coffee shop that just opened up. The staff was friendly and polite. The manager, Gerardo was willing to take time to talk to us and made sure we enjoyed the food. I tried the Turkey Panini and it was great. Perfectly toasted, and crispy. The Turkey was also seasoned with a great flavor. I also had a bottle of coke in a glass, which was a nice touch. After my meal I tried the hot chocolate. It was delicious and had a different flavor than regular packaged hot chocolate. I definitely plan to make this a regular coffee spot read more

I was in Albany Park and needed a spot to work for a bit. A quick yelp searched turned up Cafe Urbano as the closest independent coffee shop. Turns out it's a great little spot at the corner of Elston and Avers, an unassuming location on wide Elston Avenue across from an automotive paint supply store and a collision center. Not the loveliest of views, but the full windows that wrap around the corner give it great light, and looking north & northwest isn't bad at all, with wide sight lines and some more historic facades & lush trees on Avers. It was a Sunday early afternoon, so the fact that it was full was a good sign. Staff was friendly and there was aice diverse clientele-age/style/ethnicity...always nice to have variety. The nice rustic surfaces and rich textures, with colorful artwork everywhere give it a great feel. I just had coffee & a scone. The cranberry and apricot scone was solid and iced horchata latte topped with whipped cream was excellent. Great little find & nice spot to work for a spell. read more

Cool spot! I've past by this place a couple of times and decided to give it a try. They have a great selection of espresso drinks and the house coffee is on point. The Horchata latte is a must try! 9/5/20 Called my order in 10 min before I got there, placed it under Edgar. Show up pay and proceed to wait. About 25 min pass and the woman behind the register asks if I had received my order. I said no and she responded that it had been sitting at the counter for 20 min? She said I called out Eddie? I responded who's Eddie and that she never even called the order out. It was only me and one other gentleman waiting for our food.I said I didn't want the cold food since it had been sitting for almost 30 min at this point. I ask for new ones but they refuse. Disclaimer: I only ordered a black ice coffee with vanilla syrup. I'm not gonna say the drinks/food are amazing because I really didn't try anything special, YET. This place is right around the corner and I'm so glad I gave it a try. Small, and not amazingly comfortable seating, aka I wouldn't use this place as my go to "work time" coffee shop. But there is plenty of seating, and a cool atmosphere. Causal, urban, y Latino. The staff was super cool too. The young lady that works here was friendly and we had a quick little chat. I use to live not far from this place but only discovered it when my daughter suggested I try their coffee. I enjoyed the table outside and the friendly person inside. I ordered a hot Chai tea. I took a couple of sips and thought it was delicious. It was so good I remember I didn't notice it was an ice chia. I don't care for ice drinks but this was excellent. Expired potato chips, take 15-20 minutes to make a sandwich but can't get the order right, watered down lattes... we had two sandwiches one bag of old chips, and two small lattes... our bill was more than $30. Chairs and tables are conveniently laid out so you aren't confined in one spot and you have the ability to lay back but also get a lot of productivity if needed. On paper, Cafe Urbano has it made. It's a cozy corner coffeeshop in a somewhat gentrifying corner of Chicago with bespoke sandwiches, high end coffee, and a host of other cozy features to make it a neighborhood stop and shop for coffee or a quick lunch. Unfortunately in practice it falls apart. The club panini sandwich I ordered came not only with a bone fragment in the ham (which is a choking hazard), but also a half dozen hairs pressed into the sandwich contents itself. Needless to say I will not be returning. An independent coffee shop needs to have a value proposition that exceeds that of a corporate conformist chain like Starbucks, and Cafe Urbano does not deliver on that front. read more

Love cafe Urbano! Huge fan of their breakfast sandwiches and delicious collectivo lattes. It's my workspace away from the office and I enjoy perching on the window bar seats while I type away on my laptop. I would have given 1 extra star but some improvements need to be made - PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get a better ventilation system (prayer hand emoji) I can't afford to go home after a day at the cafe and wash my clothes and hair to get rid of the smoke/grease smell. This corner cafe makes an awesome chai latte and its breakfast burritos are generously filled. Service is friendly although on the day we went, there was only one staffer covering both the register and the kitchen. Good food but it may not come very quickly if they get a big crowd in. read more

I'm sure the coffee is good... But I came in for a bacon egg & cheese bagel sandwich. It's kind of hard to find a good bagel in the city. You can go to bagel bro's in wicker park and have deal with wicker park, you can go all the way to edgewater for JB's deli, but if you live in old Irving park, you've got this place. Maybe I had high expections, but I found the bagel quality to be kind of crappy. It tasted store bought, and I understand it's not practical to make your bagels fresh everyday, but find a better bagel. Please. By the time I got to eat my bagel to-go, about ten mins after I ordered it, it was soggy and full of water from the steam in the to-go wrapping. It was a thin soggy bagel and I think you can do better. The bacon was legit. When you wake up hungover, or you just love bagel breakfast sandwiches like I do, and you live in the neighborhood, call me crazy but I feel like we deserve a better bagel breakfast sandwich.
