It was so yummy Their bun Bo hue was pretty good as well, and the lady there was so sweet and asked if I wanted (mam rước) on the side, which is a Vietnamese fermented shrimp paste (an essential ingredient to bun Bo). She asked because it has a strong/funky smell and some people may want to not have it as much but I'm from Hue so I told her I can handle it. However, I'm glad I went today. I took my mom with me. My mom ordered the bun rieu (not on the menu for some reason) and I ordered the bun bo hue. Then, we ordered the brown sugar milk tea with boba and floating flan. We asked they don't come until after our meals. They timed it perfectly. The bun rieu... superb! My mom makes the best bun rieu in the entire world and she was very impressed by it. She let me try some and wow! I immediately ordered one to go for my hubby since he loves my mom's bun rieu. It hit really close to home on this one. The meats portion is very generous. Very excellent, indeed and I commend the chef on the bun rieu. There is no restaurant in town that I can think of that serves bun rieu except for Golden Palace, so if you visit the bun rieu is a must try for sure. It is a unique and very delicious Vietnamese cuisine that is often forgotten by its friendly competition.. pho and bun bo hue. Bun bo hue - just perfect! I always order the grilled pork, but the waitress encouraged me to try the shredded pork next time. We dined in yesterday. The interior is small, but that's my only complaint. They need more room to serve the wave of customers they are going to have. We tried everything. The fried wontons were my least favorite, but they were still very good. I enjoyed the spicy cowboy suchi roll, the viet pancake, and the pork vermicelli bowl. My husband loved his meatball sandwich. They explained to us how to eat the vietnamese pancake. The food was pretty good. The broth of the pho was delicious although their spicy version with their chili was a little different to what I'm used to. Their fried calamari was amazing. My sister also got Korean short ribs and they were delicious. The yogurt drinks were amazing as well. Overall the food was delicious the only thing that made our experience bad was service. We were originally the only people there and it seemed like they didn't want to serve us. My family decided to stop in for some drinks but saw some street food on their windows so we decided to dine in. We ordered our drinks before ordering our food. Got our food fairly slowly considering all we got were appetizers only. We waited for our drinks still and they brought it out one at a time. So then people would post in those Facebook "Happenings" page for their respective cities saying something along the lines of, "GUYS, THIS WALMART HAS TOILET PAPER." We came in on a Thursday at 2pm and it wasn't busy. They have dine-in now so that's what we did. There were quiet a few carry out orders while we were there. Right off the bat, they were so welcoming! We opted to order items that we normally don't order at Vietnamese restaurants (we usually order pho and/or bun bo hue). So crispy yet flavorful! It has like a subtle lemon/lime and fish sauce taste. We really liked and recommend this! Vermicelli bowl: what a loaded bowl!! I tried it and it was good. Egg noodle soup: really yummy! This was also a loaded bowl, haha. Both portions were huge! Brown sugar boba milk: this was what we came here for! Lol. Brown sugar boba milk tea has become really popular within this past year I think. I LOVE the brown sugar boba milk tea ice cream and that's all I have to compare this to. I didn't realize that this isn't "milk tea" it's just milk! There's no tea in the name so I think that's why it doesn't taste like a milk tea. To me, it tastes like milk with the brown sugar drizzle (or whatever it is lol) with boba. The boba was really warm so it made our drink warm up after mixing, wish that didn't happen!! The boba itself is really good though. Soft and chewy. It tastes similar to the ice cream, just not as creamy or sweet, IMO! I heard to add flan but I just wanted to try the drink for it's true form. Maybe I'll try that next time! Also, if you're lactose intolerant.. this is your warning! Lol. Overall, I recommend this place and would definitely come back. Every once in awhile, you come across a moment when worlds collide- Cafe Uyen. It was the perfect marriage of one of my favorite desserts, the flan, and one of my favorite drinks, boba tea. Yes, you read it right. Coming across a picture of bubble tea with flan floating on the top made me jump from my couch, floor it for 28 minutes to get to Cafe Uyen before it closed. We called but since we didn't get an answer, we just hoped that they'd still serve us when we arrived 3-4 minutes before close time. We don't mean to be "those" people so I was fully ready to hear that they're closing up and to come later. I would completely understand that too but they were very polite, ready to still serve. They were not only very accommodating, offering excellent service, but they didn't even make me feel rushed and took their time. It is a small joint but looks like it's family run. Nice people, great service and I WILL be back! I tried the Brown Sugar Milk drink (the one with flan) & the Mango Mojito (virgin). They said to shake the flan drink so it mixes in and it was sweet, creamy and delicious. You get little chunks of flan! The mango was recommended when I asked about their mangonado. I had never tried that but the lady suggested that I try the mojito instead. It was very refreshing and definitely my kind of drink. I'm a sucker for mint lemonade and this drink had mint!!! Nothing wrong with Cafe Uyen, but I went here because my friends want to support this place. I wanted to go for some safe popular options. I always do this when I go to a new place. Naturally I went with the pho and fried tofu. I love the fried tofu because it's crunchy on the outside and soft moist on the inside. It was really good with the sauce. The special pho comes in a big bowl, most of which are broth and noodle. I managed to finish it all by eating really fast. If you eat slow, the noodle will expand. When I was about midway through, the bowl was just full of noodle. There was very little meat in there. The broth was in the middle upper range in flavor. It is more flavorful than some pho places in Asian district but less flavorful than one particular pho place in Asian district. I also tried their street food, fried chicken wings and something else that I don't remember the name. They were both alright. Wings need a little more sweet and salt but it has the tamarind sour taste which is unique. Overall, I would say that pho Uyen is a good place for pho lovers in the Yukon area but if you live in the OKC area there are other options available that may cater to your palate a little better. read more
