So, we decided to meet up at Cafesano one Friday evening. When I first entered Cafesano, the atmosphere was very lively, yet intimate. After locating my friend, we discussed her recommended dishes since she frequented Cafesano. She eventually stated that I wouldn't be disappointed with the skewers, so, I decided to commit to the Steak and Shrimp Skewers. With the busyness of the Friday crowd, I expected there to be a wait time with ordering our meals, however, the order line essentially was non-existent, which was a win. The cashier was nice and efficient. However, when it was time for my food to come out, it took quite a bit of time. But, eventually my food came out fresh off the stove, which I appreciated. On to the taste of the dish. Unfortunately, with the promising words from my friend paired with the reviews, my expectations for this dish may have been quite high, causing immediate disappointment. I sadly felt like everything on my plate lacked flavor. The meat could have been seasoned/marinated better giving a more flavorful skewer experience. We initially came for a simple glass of wine because the weather was so beautiful, but the wine tasted so old and Was obviously passed its prime. We asked the server to please open another bottle. Fortunately, she agreed in our experience was much more pleasurable and we ended up staying longer and ordered 2 1/2 more glasses of wine otherwise we would've left. Came here Sunday and was let down again. Ordered the chicken ceasar wrap and the chicken was dry and entire wrap had zero ceasar dressing on it. I actually came close to choking on it - it was so dry. Thankfully I had something to drink to help wash it down. We ordered desert and it was not brought with the meal and we had to ask about it. Somewhat ample parking, conveniently located off of a residential / commercial intersection at the entrance to the Sterling area. Here you'll find the food as consistently above average, but not spectacular enough to stand out. When they opened years ago their carpese was truly phenomenal. It's still okay now, and all ingredients have remained consistently fresh through the years. The ambience is a 5/5 for the area - well designed and the interior layout is very space efficient for foot traffic. If it was just about the food this would be 4-5 stars. Unfortunately, you never get a second chance at a first impression. In this instance, "Trevor" from cafesano might be the worst customer service rep I have ever dealt with. I received a gift card for $50 dollars and ordered a meal totalling around $30. I wanted to leave a tip with the gift card but their website wouldn't allow it. So it came down to ordering my food and not tipping the staff or pay with my credit card to pay the hard working employees for their efforts. I'm not a jerk so I chose to pay for the meal with my card as everyone is hurting financially right now, especially those in the food service industry. When I reached out to Cafesano to alert them of this issue I received this response Hi Andrew, "Thank you for bringing this to our attention and we apologize for the inconvenience. We will contact Toast, our POS provider, and see if we can find out what the issue is. The settings are set to allow tips to be paid by gift cards, so I am not sure why this happened to you. I recommend not adding the tip if this happens again. While we appreciate any tips, it is not required." Best, Trevor 2 issues wrong with this. Number 1 it is an excuse on Trevor's part without taking any accountability or trying to make the situation right with the customer. Don't blame toast, you are the business representative you handle it, excuses don't mean anything if you don't correct the issue or follow up with your solution. Number 2 what kind of jerk manager do you have to be to tell a customer "next time just don't tip my staff". If I was his staff I would quit, you obviously don't care about them or the customer so I'm not sure why you still have a job? This is a great place for people who like healthier food but also having options of what to decide on. They have pizza, pasta, kabobs, salads, sandwiches, paninis, and more! My girlfriend and I have ordered so many things from here. On our most recent trip we each ordered a salad with a kabob and we split a margherita pizza. Pizza is my favorite food so when I say it's good, I mean it. I'd definitely order it again. I also had the arugula salad with a steak kabob and I thought it was a great pairing. My girlfriend ordered the signature with a shrimp kabob I believe. The service here is always good. You order at the counter and they bring it out when it's ready so there's not much interaction with the staff. But they're all kind and helpful so that's a plus. They usually have food out within about 10 minutes or so. The ambiance is pretty open and casual. There's a lot of seating including tables for parties larger than 6. Cafesano is one of my favorite restaurants in the area. Prices are very reasonable and the food is fresh and delicious! You order at the register and they bring the food to your table, so you don't need to leave a full 20% tip like a full service restaurant. If you get a fountain drink, you could go up to the soda machine and get as many refills as you would like. I've had many different items from the menu. The pizza, wraps, paninis, and salads are all great. Signature salad is always fresh and quite large. If you get the gluten free crust for the pizza, it is crispy, just the way I like it. Not quite the same fantastic lakeside dining atmosphere of the original Reston location, but still consistently good Mediterranean dishes. Its set up in a strip mall, but they have done a good job making it feel warm and comfortable inside. You order at a counter, then the food is brought out to you. Staff has always been friendly and helpful. The flatbreads, wraps and pastas have all been consistently fresh and tasty, and they have a good kids menu as well. My favorite is the shawarma wrap, and the zatar chips on the side, especially with a garlic sauce, is a great lunch. This is one of our go to stops in the Dulles/ Sterling area. read more

I've tried so many things here over the years, and for the most part everything is great - I think their Mediterranean dishes are not super legit though and their pita is just meh. Their pizzas are good, cooked in a wood fired oven, their salads fresh, but the lasagna is fabulous. I would say lasagna portion sizes aren't always the most consistent though, but it's my fave thing to order here nonetheless. Overall everything is fresh, tasty and service is friendly. You cannot go wrong for any of the items - everything tastes great! My only grievance - and this may sound petty - is that you walk in, stand in line, order at the register, and pay at the register and this is where you are presented with the opportunity to tip the staff. I consider myself to be a great tipper but the only thing the staff does is bring your food out to you. They do not come by and provide you refills on drinks. They do not come by to check to see if the food is good. They do not come back. Then you are supposed to clean your table prior to leaving. Why would I leave a tip for that? I was excited to check this place out and when I finally did with 4 other family members who were passing by my area, I had mixed feelings! Firstly, I was surprised that it was a quick order counter as oppose to a sit down restaurant. It was a build up type with options preset menu like sandwiches, kabob platters and pastas. I ordered the chicken kabob platter which was underwhelming for it lacked or tasted bland. For a Mediterranean food, it lacked the bare necessities spices. I was particularly disappointed even for the plain rice, no color or saffron or any spice at all. Same for the kebab pepper, tomatoes, & onions! Secondly, true letdown was that it looked really nice from the outside view---such a waste of nice spacious ambience! Still, despite the lack of table service, the staff at the counter provided great customer service and the nice ambience saved them more stars! No one picked up the phone all 3 times and when they say they will call you back, they don't! I talked to a staff member there, who seemed to be in charge and she didn't even know I had called!!! We drove to the strip where this is located, about 10 minutes from her condo, and found parking easily. My friend chose the House Salad and Bruschetta and I went with a Hummus app, a small/half side house salad and a chicken shawarma wrap. The apps were out first and we loved them. The bruschetta is a good size app with large pieces of toasted bread and the chopped tomatoes in the middle so you can add to your liking with a spoon. Hummus came with a ton of warm pita bread for dipping. The large salad (my friend's entree) is huge, my side or half size was plenty big enough for me. Delicious and served with fresh lettuce, avocado, red onion, olives, cucumbers, and artichokes. All chopped with dressing on the side with another piece of toasted bread and a cheese chip. Food was out quickly, it's clean inside and the bathrooms are very nice and clean and updated with automatic fixtures. The panini was piled high with chicken and freshly cooked, thinly sliced zucchini. The bread was soft on the inside and crispy on the outside. I wish I had read the menu just a little closer because cheese would've really banged this sandwich out of the park, and if I had realized it didn't come with cheese I might've ordered a panini that did. I love this place. It's probably my go to for lunch as my office is very close. I also like their Dulles/Sterling location. The food is consistently great. I'm a big fan of their beef shwarma and love their kabobs and salads. My kids love their pizza. The garlic sauce is to die for, I'd literally buy a gallon of it if i could.
