We were in town for a wedding and I found this place when researching. The reviews looked good and the limited photos also looked good. We were surprised to find this place was very small and has the look of a quick serve place, which it is not. The server: very nice and attentive. No one here seemed to actually be from Italy, which we are accustomed to when going to Italian places. Food: the crispy artichoke appetizer was good. The whipped ricotta appetizer was delicious. For meals, we got the bucatini and this one pasta with a pumpkin cream sauce. They were both OK, I didn't love the Brussel sprouts in my dish, just didn't go well. We also ordered the side of chicken parm for protein, which was big and good. For dessert the cappuccino was good but was sweet for some reason (I didn't ask for any sweetener). The tiramisu was pretty good, I imagine homemade, especially with it being more yellow which is more traditional. read more

What a hidden gem this is. We had our Foundation meeting here and had a special menu created for us. The food was amazing. I had a Balsamic chicken with mini potatoes and it was delicious! I did get to taste the chicken parm and that is definitely going to be ordered next time. Service was really nice and laid back. Ambiance was amazing as well. We got to see so many great pictures of family and food. I can not wait to be able to sit outside and relax. We got to meet the owner and her daughter, wonderful people. My girlfriend and I had the best little lunch date here! We could tell it was a true community spot, so many regulars, and we even ran into one of our neighbors. We started with the Burrata and crispy smash potatoes, both so flavorful. For mains, we had the trofie pasta and chicken parm, fresh and delicious. We enjoyed their salted caramel affogato. We are huge affogato fans, and this was one of the best we've had! The owner was so kind and welcoming, making the experience even better. It was alright! Not my favorite Italian spot. I think it depends on what you order. Here's the thing, it's a solid meal, but it's not super flavorful. Unless you get something with meats then it adds to the flavor of the pasta. The inside was much smaller than expected. So if they get busy you might have a hard time finding seats. It's not good for groups. They do have outdoor seating though! I ordered the: Orwashers NYC ciabatta and red pepper dip 4/10 I wasn't in love with it. Consistency of the oil tasted watered down and weird. Pepperoni aranciri 8/10 Although we hardly tasted any pepperoni it at least tasted crispy fresh and good. Strozzapreti (formally known as the Strozzapreti crema di pommodoro pasta) 7/10 Very soft pasta, probably a little overcooked and deff not al dente. The pasta is plain no chicken or meats just sauce and noodles with shaved Parm. I would not order this again Paccheri 8/10 This was actually good! The pasta wasn't overcooked. The flavors were fairly good because it had fennel sausage in it. Overall it was alright, but I personally wouldn't go back. There's so many pasta places in the area with similar pricings. read more

Not the best but not the worst is how I'd sum it up. We had seen this pop up a bunch of times in our search for food and finally decided to try it. It was a mixed bag of thoughts. The pepperoni arancini was good but if you left off the word pepperoni, I don't think it would have made a difference. The ciabatta was meh. The dip was not what we expected. But the bread was good. My gf ordered the strozzapreti and it was a tad overcooked so while the flavor was good, the pasta was too soft. I ordered the Paccheri and it was the better dish. The pasta was al dente and the fennel sausage added some extra flavor to enhance the dish. The service was okay. Nothing to write home about. The waitress visited a couple of times and was helpful in menu recommendations. The ambiance is very casual. It's a small spot so very limited seating inside. But they do also have outdoor seating for the warmer months. Don't know that I loved it enough to return frequently. We decided to give this place a try and came here on a Sunday for an early dinner. Once we got here, we realized that it was in the spot where the long gone Colada Shop used to be. Thus, the dining area is very small. Plus, there is really nowhere to sit that won't have a cold blast of air hit you while eating in the winter. There is an outdoor area that has a roof and is walled in. Having sat in that area when it was the Colada Shop, I imagine that it still would be a pleasant spot to sit and have a meal. We both agree service was quite good. Our server was friendly and efficient. Plus he checked on us after our food arrived to see if we needed anything. When I looked at the menu online, it was confusing due to the fact that they were having problems sourcing gluten-free pasta. Some items were marked "not available". It made it seem that none of these entrees was available. They have an item on their website where you can ask a question. I sent an email asking them (in so many words) to clear up the confusion. The next day the owner answered and apologized for the confusion saying there was a glitch and, yes, all their menu items are available. Plus, they fixed the online menu. I was impressed as to how proactive they were with the customer service. As for the food...their menu is limited. In addition to main course menu items, they do offer sandwiches, salads, appetizers and soup. We both ordered items off the main course menu. One thing I wasn't crazy about was that just about all entrees have cheese in them. I'm no fan of strong tasting cheeses so I found myself ruling out several items. So...we started with a "zucchini fritti" appetizer. This turned out to be a disappointment as the batter used was too thick and didn't adhere to the zucchini. When we would stab it with a fork, the zucchini would fall out of the batter. On Sundays, they offer a Sunday dinner special. It basically consists of a Caesar Salad, a spaghetti and tomato sauce entree and if I recall correctly, some bread. We were considering this but we don't like Caesar Salad. I told the server that we were considering this meal but didn't like the salad. That should have given him an opening to say something like "You can substitute another salad but it would cost extra money." If he had given us that option, we would have availed ourselves of it. Instead, for my entree, I chose "Tagiatelle" which consists of: "fresh crab, guanciale, omion, zucchini, Calabrian chili, pomodoro, pecorino". I asked the server if the pecorino could be left off the dish. He said he would ask the chef. When it came, my request was honored. The Calabrian Chilies did provide some spice to the dish without being overpowering. The guanciale was in small cubes and some pieces were tough. This was a lot of food and I couldn't finish it all. My husband chose "Rigatoni" which consists of: "mushroom, spinach, sweet peas, marsala, pomodoro, parmesan". He said it was okay and the items worked well together. I was very excited about trying this restaurant and attempted to patronize them for the first time today, but had the most rude and unpleasant experience. I walked in the restaurant, with my toddler son in the stroller and asked to be seated outside, so I could make my order, as well as feed my child. After the server brought me outside, so I could be seated and make my order, she then returned to say that the Owner/Management said no outside food allowed, which was in reference to the food that I brought to feed my toddler. I explained to the server that I would be ordering from the Restaurant, but I brought food to feed my toddler. The Owner/Management came out to confront me, who DID NOT even bother to speak to me when I arrived, even though she was in restaurant when I requested to be seated. When I repeated to the Owner/Management what I said to the server, she cut me off and very rudely said, "I saw you responding to the server, so I had to come out." When I asked the reason she had to come out to reiterate what the she told the server to tell me, she couldn't explain, made insulting remarks to me and stormed back into the restaurant. She clearly demonstrated racial bias and was very indifferent. This is not an establishment that has good customer service, and the problem is clearly with the Owner/Management, who obviously has a an issue with racial diversity. The mushroom arancini was crispy on the outside with a gooey cheese inside (although a bit bitter somehow?) The tiramisu is a rich and thick dessert, perfect to share or have all by yourself! It's a bit cliche to say you feel like family as a patron at an Italian restaurant, but URBANO really does feel that way. I've only been once, but my family has been multiple times. The chef and owner comes out to chat when he's not busy. His wife works the register and makes you feel right at home. Their daughters also work there sporadically and have definitely inherited the genes for being kind and helpful. The interior is small, but modern. You'd think with such a small spot it would be difficult to get a table, but it's really not. They also have this very convenient pickup window for carryout orders, so you don't even have to go inside! As for the food - it is nothing short of exceptional. The owner is a chef and it shows. Every dish is carefully thought out and made with love - and I can say that with confidence, because you can just see how pleased he is when people are enjoying the food. I won't even comment on the flavors of each dish we got, but just know that what you order is quite possibly going to be the best version of that dish you have ever had. And the portions are EXTREMELY generous too. It really is a true Italian dinner. Please, do yourself a favor and support URBANO's. They deserve it. You deserve it. read more

I was gutted when Colada Shop closed its doors and was replaced by Urbanos but after going once, I have upgraded from hater to frequent flyer. Urbano is family owned and run and on any given night you are likely to interact with the owner who is a delightful human. They opened the restaurant to be a community hangout and have a real interest in learning the names and faces of the people who dine with them which I love! There is often a dinner special and the menu is seasonal so you constantly see new dishes to try which livens things up. I also hosted my son's birthday dinner here and they were very accommodating to a group of teenage boys! They have fresh pastas and a killer chicken parm. I've always been impressed with their use of arugula and the artichoke fries were impossibly crispy and delicious. My photo is of the roasted octopus (which sold out) that was topped on a bed of beans, olives, and peppers. The prices are $14-30 for menu items and everything is decently priced. With so many places to choose, I would choose not to go back. While the autumn beet salad was a generous portion of arugula, brussels sprouts, diced beets, and Gorgonzola and quite tasty, it was basically something anyone could throw together. As a soup lover, I was more interested in the autumn minestrone which was basically hot water with some stewed tomatoes, and a few other vegetables thrown in with some beans and I did spy needle of rosemary in my cup. It just wasn't the hearty, savory minestrone I would expect from an Italian restaurant. The amaretto didn't show up at all to flavor the cranberry amaretto cheesecake. The Sunday dinner came with so much food-- too much for us to finish (even though there were 4 of us) we also got the Strozzapreti Crema di Pomodoro Pasta, which was delicious! That was definitely the best thing we tried, along with the garlic bread. (Highly recommend garlic bread even if you don't do the Sunday dinner!) It can be a little hard to find. Just park in the lot that is next to Choolaah and you should be okay. There is outdoor seating. The menu items are in Italian but feel free to ask staff what is good if you need a recommendation. Let's start with the appetizer. The arrancini was delicious. It was perfectly fried so the outside had a nice crisp and the inside was cheesy and delicious. I would like to try something different next time though like the artichoke fritas. The two entrees we ordered were good. I would recommend the Trofie if you are a pasta lover. Apparently this is one of the items that stays on their menu because it is popular even when they switch things around. The pork dish was delicious if you are a meat and potatoes person. I would get it for the roasted potatoes alone. The dessert (della nona) was not very sweet. If this is what you prefer, then this is the dessert for you. Opted for outdoor dining this weekend. Got a couple apps and a pasta to share. Loved the texture of the strozzapreti. Sauce was delish. Think I could eat that on everything.
