The city center of Greve in Chianti is such a picturesque spot. My tour guide from Grape Tours realizes this and lets tour groups make a 20 minute stop in the city, which is located right in the middle of the Chianti Classico DOCG. I was still quite full from an excellent meal and everyone in our group agreed to have some gelato as a way to cool down. This was the closest gelato shop we could find. €3 got me two half-scoops of hazelnut and pistachio gelato, my gold standard. It was quite average, despite initially passing the "look test" (no artificial colors, composition not big and cloudlike). It doesn't help that in retrospect all the gelato I tried in the main cities plus two gelaterias back home taste better than this. Even in Italy, the home of gelato, there is such a thing as subpar gelato.

This review is long overdue for our visit back in November of 2024. I was looking up Nduja recipe…read moreand reminded myself this was the place that initiated my love for Nduja sauce. American/Aussie owned bakery brunch spot by the river, such a cute little eatery. We loved our visit and though it's definitely more of a touristy spot, as most customers spoke English, the food was delicious to forgo the tourist trappy vibes. We shared a plate and added some items as we didn't want to get too stuffed on our first day of Florence. We had the Nduja Eggs plate with bacon and avocado added. Nduja is a spicy Calabrian pepper spreadable pork sauce, and oh boy was it so flavorful. If I remembered correctly, Melaleuca spread this sauce on top of a fried bread and eggs. I don't see it on the menu at the moment and it's probably a rotatable dish... but it definitely kicked started my hunt for the sauce. Since this is a spreadable pork, it's not something I could bring back to the US but I was able to find it online back home. The service was amazing and the beverages were delicious. Like many Italian places, the dining room is small and bathroom is a single small room that might require a small wait if they're busy. Didn't get to try their baked goods this last time, but definitely on our list to go back for more when we're back to Florence for a visit.
