We dined here in 2019, early in the evening (so it wasn't busy). The staff gave us a wonderful history of the space, which is centuries old. The food was delicious and the wine was fantastic. Bravo!

Sometimes you just get lucky and wind up at an absolutely great restaurant. That happened to us today. We had made a reservation at Toscanella Osteria and were immediately taken with the ambience and welcoming feeling of this restaurant. Alexi and Rabbi, our servers, greeted us like we were old customers - such a nice feeling. We took a while to take in all that the menu had to offer. We ordered a 1/2 liter of their house white wine and 1/2 liter of their house red wine - both wines were delicious. My husband started with the Tortelli Maremanni (little pasta bags filled with ricotta and spinach with a wild boar sauce) for his first course. For his second course, he went with the beef cooked in wine and peppercorn sauce with sautéed spinach. Can I tell you he was a happy man? I wanted to try something new to me, so I ordered the Carabaccia (Tuscan Onion Soup with almonds and fresh croutons). Oh my, a piping hot bowl of onion soup with the most delectable flavor. For my second course, I actually had a Primi of pasta with seasonal vegetables. This was a wide noodle pasta with carrots, eggplant, zucchini, red and yellow peppers in a light sauce. Both of my dishes were loaded with flavor and so satisfying. We finished with a Chocolate cake that was very dense, and just added the perfect ending to a perfect meal. This restaurant sits on a side street not on the normal path of tourists and has quite a history. The monumental portico (now the main part of the restaurant) was used by the Ridolfi family as an open-air reception room. The ancient well that gave the Toscanelli family their name has been restored, along with the ancient stones and bases of the columns of the portico, which can be seen under the glass floor. It is really worth a visit! This ancient street, Via Toscanella, was named after an old Tuscan family to which Paolo dal Pozzo Toscanelli (1397-1482) belonged. Paolo was a mathematician, astronomer, and cartographer whose studies and maps led to the discovery of America. In a letter to Fernao Martins de Reriz, a canon in Lisbon, he described a route to reach the Indies by sailing toward the West. Fernao gave the letter to Christopher Columbus, and the rest is history.

Cool place with a real history! Good looks awesome

One of our favorite restaurants we visited while in Florence. We accidentally discovered it and decided to give it a try. There's a great story regarding the history of the location, and they even have a plexi-glass floor area showing the old floor that was there previously. It really ties into a full experience of visiting Italy. We enjoyed all the dishes, and I went outside of my comfort zone and tried a tripe dish, which was glorious. The waiter had a lot of personality and helped make this a memorable visit.

What a wonderful florencian experience! Decent wine selection and with some ok pricing. The waiters were wonderful. The service was wonderful. Unfortunately, no tap water, just bottled. The waiters did know English. I tried my best at italian-spanish. We had a bottle of Chianti. Molto bene! The place itself is quaint/charming. The home made pasta was perfect along with the yummy house duck sauce. The wine/peppercorn beef was succulent. It was fine and melted in my mouth. I hate fat, but even that was pretty tastey. The only lacking part was the bread. Something seemed off, but it didn't stop me from enjoying it. Great experience and thanks to our Airbnb host, we would have never found this gem. If you are looking for a nice romantic dinner, here you can go. I was very happy with everything. Gratzie!!

Decent food, great atmosphere but pricey for what you get. I had the steak, a chicken liver appetizer, wine, and a dessert. All were average or slightly better than what i had in Florence. But, the steak didn't include any sides and my chicken liver crostini was served on soft barely toasted bread. Maybe i should have stuck to the basics like pasta.

Great intimate spot. Ana (Anya) was our server, very sweet and on point. Add this place to your list when you're in town!

Beautiful decor, good bossa nova music, great food. Price was a little higher than some but reasonable for the quality.

It's close enough to the lively, bustling part of Firenze to feel connected, yet just far enough to escape the city's never-ending wave of tourists. The service was incredible, and the owner (I'm pretty sure it was the owner?) brought so much energy that he single-handedly turned the whole place into an eclectic little spot during the "rush hour" of the evening. The menu was solid, if a bit "generic" at times. While everything we ordered was delicious, nothing at Trattoria Giovanni felt like a dish you couldn't find elsewhere... and honestly, that's perfectly fine! It was traditional, comforting, and exactly what we were craving. The plate of cured meats and cheese was phenomenal, a great start to the meal. The pastas were really good as well, though one of the meat dishes had a slightly off texture, with the chunks of meat a bit overcooked. All in all, we loved our meal and would definitely recommend this spot if you're in Florence.

Wow, what a special place…read more Set inside a 14th-century tower near the Ponte Vecchio in Florence, this restaurant delivers an unforgettable dining experience from the moment you walk in. The atmosphere alone is worth a visit, but the food is what truly makes it exceptional. We ordered the ravioli, pappardelle with wild boar ragù, the Florentine steak, a mixed salad, affogato, and fresh strawberries with mascarpone cream. To drink, we shared a small carafe of red wine and a Pinot Grigio. Everything was spectacular. The Florentine steak was easily the best--and largest--I have ever had. Perfectly cooked, incredibly flavorful, and remarkably tender, it was the highlight of an already outstanding meal. The pappardelle with boar ragù was rich, hearty, and deeply satisfying, while the ravioli was beautifully prepared and full of flavor. Every dish felt authentic, carefully executed, and memorable. The wine was another pleasant surprise. Both selections were excellent and very reasonably priced, making the meal feel like an even better value. Our waiter was friendly, attentive, and incredibly helpful. He patiently answered questions, explained the menu, and guided us toward some fantastic choices. Although we thought we were too full for dessert, we're very glad we changed our minds. The affogato was fantastic, and the strawberries with mascarpone cream were absolutely delicious. One of the highlights of the evening was watching our four-year-old happily clutching two spoons and enthusiastically scooping fresh strawberries and mascarpone into his mouth. It was one of those memorable family travel moments that you don't forget. A terrific meal, a unique historic setting, excellent service, and a wonderful atmosphere. This was one of our favorite dining experiences in Florence, and I highly recommend it.

We were welcomed warmly by the staff (he literally said "ah yes I remember you" ) and guided to our cozy little table in the corner. Were ordered a bottle of Chianti Classico to start, as well as a few pastas plus the steak and cod. I can safely say the spaghetti pomodoro with burrata was the best pasta dish I've had in Italy - the pasta was perfectly cooked and the cherry tomatoes was so sweet, the kind of thing that reminds you why you came to Italy in the first place. Overall: great service, great atmosphere, and fantastic food. Just be sure to make a reservation!!

We spent three days in Florence and ate here twice, and cut our tour of the Acedemia out of our schedule to make sure we could make it for lunch before heading on to Rome, that's how awesome the food was! The people running the restaurant are so amazing, they truly treat you like family while you are there. They were always attentive, but never lingering. Unlike restaurants in the US where you are expected to eat and leave as soon as possible, in Italy food is mean to be enjoyed over conversation and camaraderie, which means unless you wave someone over or your glasses are empty you are left to enjoy yourselves. Osteria Santo Spirito is no exception to this rule. You'll be warmly greeted and well cared for but never hovered over. You will absolutely want to make a reservation, a wait for a table inside can take a bit to get if you just plan to stroll in off the street, but the seating outside is just as beautiful and a bit more plentiful. Both the indoor and outdoor tables are lovely (we tried both after our wives were too cold in the wind), and this was the best service we encountered during a week in Florence. Not only were the staff accommodating and brought us everything we needed, but they also steered us toward so many things we weren't going to get, with insistence and good humor. And they were right. The Albanian sommelier and my wine-obsessed buddy fell in love, talked for ages, and we ordered three very nice bottles (classic) as a result (after our spritzes). We had a steak dinner planned for later, but we still ordered the exceptional Florentine beef, just because we couldn't leave without trying it. They blew my mind with the savory mushroom flan, and the fiochetti di pera (perfect purses of pear pasta in a silky cream sauce) were one of the best bites of the trip, and my life.
