Cod Fish Basket, good portion but low on flavor.
    Ben T.

I wanted to do something different today, so I decided to try Caffe Barista & Deli for a Cod Fish Basket. Ordering online was very easy and quick, but my only problem is it did not give an option to choose French Fries. The online order form only shows Onion Rings. I requested fries as a substitute for the rings, and (thankfully), they were able to accommodate. The atmosphere of the place was pretty laid back and relaxed, with quite a line of people...which is a very good sign. Thanks to a friendly staff person behind the counter, I picked up my food and was on my way in no time flat. The Food: My Cod Fish Basket was just okay. Don't get me wrong, you do get a very good portion for the money. However, it did not have much of a taste to it. No seasoning, no taste, just fried. I will give this place credit for the fact the fish had a great crunch on the outside, and flaky inside. I just wish it had flavor. The other thing, were the fries. I'm a stickler about my French Fries and have an extremely hard time eating them if they are burnt or too overdone. Unfortunately, my fries were overdone, overly salted in some parts, and not salted on others. I ate a few but could not finish the rest. Lastly, the Cole Slaw and Tarter Sauce were packed in the same box as the hot fish, which made them both too hot to be eaten. Personally, I feel I should have tried the Philly Cheesesteak, or something with more flavor to it. I might give this restaurant another shot, (because giving local support is a good thing!). Yet, all I can say about it is, it's just "okay". If I try something else from here that's better/more flavorful, then I will update my review. Hopefully, you will have better luck than I did here.

If I could give this place more than 5 stars, I would. 10/10 food and the people, Jess too, I LOVE!! The daily soup is my favorite and I wish I could afford this daily! Ha! Pictured is the tomato Basil with ravioli.

Caffe Barista is an unexpected find in downtown Cincinnati. From the outside it just looks like a typical convenience store. The inside is kind of the same impression too. It has a deli counter in the back. This is what makes it not just another convenience store. It has a small menu, but there's some great items. It has a terrific hummus vegetable wrap. This is about $7 for a massive wrap. It comes with your choice of chips. The wrap is filled with fresh tasting vegetables. It's surprising coming from such a nondescript deli. The hummus tastes fresh too, not like it came from a tub. Check this out if you like independently owned delis. It gets its meats from Boar's Head. There's also good choices for vegetarians.

Today I officially found my favorite pastrami sandwich in the city. I randomly stumbled upon this small deli and so glad I did. Very reasonable prices and the staff is amazing.

This is the kind of place I dream of when I think of a good deli. Fresh, in-house selection of meats, salads, soups and cookies. Whatever is not made in-house is Boars Head. There is a great variety of standard deli sandwiches to choose from, but the star is the listing of hot sandwich options. All are stellar, including the meatball sub, philly cheesesteak, rueben and hot ham & cheese. All of the soups are great as well. But that's not all. You've also got a full-fledged convenience store mixed in, with a great selection of chips, snacks, sodas, beer and wine. A great little spot for anyone working near the 4th & Plum area of downtown, and I'm sure a great find for anyone living downtown as well.

How have I not written a review for this place?! Caffe Barista is that pace with the huge blue tent overhang that says, "Fourth and Plum Lofts" on it. I always used to drive by here but never knew it was a deli. Finally I stumbled upon this place after getting a hair cut next door and boy am I glad I did. They literally have, or could make you, anything you are craving. Home made pizza? Check. Deli sandwiches? Check. Pancakes? Check. Just want some wine? They have a grocery where you can get beer, wine, milk eggs, chips, pop, candy. This place is an oasis in the middle of downtown! I went for the Chipotle Chicken Sandwich with chipotle seasoned chicken breast, spicy mayo, lettuce, tomato, onion, pepperjack cheese all on a soft pretzel bun. WOWZER! This isn't your ordinary sammie. The onions give it great texture against the soft pretzel bun and the mayo brings the heat. A perfect well-rounded sandwich and a staple of mine. The service here has always been quick and friendly, but if you're going for lunch prepare for a wait because this place is hoppin' and rightfully so. Hands down the best Chipotle Chicken sandwich in Cincy.

Sometimes you want to be impressed by your food. Sometimes you just want a delicious sandwich delivered in under 5 minutes as you order in your pajamas. Caffe Barista delivers on both fronts. The deli, which also sells groceries, wine and beer, is conveniently located on the corner of Fourth and Plum (right below the blue awnings for the Apartments right above it). The hot sandwiches are absolutely amazing. The mesquite brisket sandwich is pretty good for deli made brisket. The menu is initially intimidating, but the staff is always friendly and the specials are clearly displayed right at the counter. Overall, Caffe Barista is a solid lunch option for anyone downtown who wants good food fast.

I am attending a conference at the Convention Center and wanted a quick local lunch. Had a great experience here. I ordered the Jerk Chicken sandwich and it had a yummy kick to it. Grabbed a bag of chips and a drink and sat at one of the few tables they had with some coworkers. Would recommend for a quick high quality local lunch in downtown near the Convention Center.

    Philly cheesesteak

Delicious sandwiches. Great prices. Friendly workers. I stop in here at least once a week! Try the Philly. Or the Reuben. Or the pastrami. The pastrami is my favorite. Food is fresh. Lunch specials are good. The workers are nice people. Can't ask for much more.

    Veggie wrap, delicious and affordable.

From 5 to 1…read more.. Jungle Jim's East has introduced us to countless foods and products that we likely never would have discovered otherwise. For many years, our weekly routine was to stop at Sam's Club for staples, then head straight to Jungle Jim's. We'd grab a beer, leisurely wander the aisles, pick up the rest of our grocery list, and almost always leave with a few unexpected treasures. Unfortunately, over the past several months we've noticed a steady decline in the overall shopping experience. Prices have increased noticeably, the quality and consistency of the produce department no longer seem to be what they once were, and many everyday grocery items have disappeared from the shelves. These aren't obscure products, but rather common items that many shoppers regularly purchase. After asking about the changes, a checkout clerk confirmed that Jungle Jim's is intentionally shifting away from being a traditional grocery store and focusing more heavily on its international market offerings. While we understand and respect that business decision, it no longer aligns with the reason we originally shopped there. What made Jungle Jim's special for us was the combination of unique international products and the ability to complete most of our regular grocery shopping in the same trip. As that balance has changed, we've found ourselves making additional stops elsewhere to find basic items, often at better prices. As a result, we've decided to move most of our grocery shopping back to Kroger. We'll still visit Jungle Jim's occasionally for specialty and international products, but sadly it is no longer our primary grocery destination. We sincerely hope management reconsiders the direction of the store, because we'd love to return to the Jungle Jim's experience that made us loyal customers for so many years.

Great restaurants and shops in and near Findlay Market, Cincinnati!…read more We had a free day while visiting relatives, and any day is fun at Findlay Market in the mid-north of the OTR (Over The Rhine) area of Cincinnati! (Well, not Mondays when they are closed :-). Parking isnt free, but it's not too expensive, and we had no problem finding a space in the North Parking Lot between Findlay Street and the market. We came in through a covered outdoor walkway, with a few vendors and with clever sayings along the sides. Then a cute photo-op with a cartoon Reds statue. Then the market stretching left and right, full of fresh produce, meats and cheese, and ready-to-eat foods of all kinds. On our first walkthrough we just scanned left and right to see some of what's there. It was busy, but not uncomfortably crowded. Out the south door of the market onto Elder Street, there's several murals, and more shops and restaurants. We always stop in at Maverick Chocolate Co. for a few yummy samples from so many flavors. They used to make the chocolate here, and now it's made just across the river in KY, where you can still get tours and probably samples :-). We sampled around six varieties! And decided on four. But it was a hot day, so we decided to circle back later for our purchases. The staff was welcoming, and maybe they didn't really know that we would return, but they were still just as kind as can be :-). We walked west to Elm Street to the stop for the free Connector streetcar, just to take a little ride around town, partly to see some of the hundreds of murals around town! And we got off again, later, at the same stop. Right there at the west end of the Market building there's an outdoor bar and patio. I, myself, was ready for a little refreshment, and they poured me a delicious local bourbon cocktail, while others of us had local craft beers. We found shaded seating among probably 20 or more round red metal tables, with chairs that were really raucous when moved! The seats fill and empty in fits and spurts, and there"s a handful of backless stools at the bar, so if you wait a little, you'll find a place to sit. We dove back into the market for some freshly-made pierogis, and a to nearby bbq, too. And afterwards, we circled back to Maverick for delicious fresh-made artisanal chocolate :-). Yum, yum, and more yum! We saw so many places we want to return to! Findlay Market has everything! I'll post a very few of so many photos that we took of a full, fun day. It's a nice area to walk around, shop, eat, and drink. And it's a great spot to catch the Connector streetcar to get around OTR and downtown Cincinnati, to within a-few-minutes-walk of the porch-swings overlooking the Ohio River near the ballpark :-)
