The restaurant is clean and cozy, and the service was prompt and very friendly. I read a lot of reviews before I decided to try Izzy's, and I'm honestly confused by the bad ones. Mostly people complain the "sandwiches aren't stuffed like a NYC deli sandwich." I had a reuben in NYC a couple of months ago. Yep, it was definitely "stuffed", and it cost me $28!!!!! I also read the potato pancakes are "greasy". Well, as I do at home, I pressed mine between a few napkins, and viola!! - not greasy!! I ordered a grilled, pastrami "Reubenator". It was plenty stuffed with tender meat, tasty sauerkraut and a nice sauce, on crispy bread. It was a big handful of awesome sandwich! The potato pancake was crisp and delicious. With an iced tea, my meal was only $18. I guarantee that is something you will not find in NYC! EXCELLENT meal, served by very nice, polite and friendly people, in a clean and cozy restaurant. I'll be back. A lot.

Lunch special of 1/2 samwich with cup of soup and potato pancake.

Disappointed. Ordered the 1/2 sandwich with soup and potato pancake. My pastrami was not dry but was salty and although it wasn't a stuffed samwich I had bread left when the meat was gone. The rye bread was a light version and not dense which is the version I prefer to eat with a lot of seed. The potato pancake was over cooked and therefore about 1-2 inches around the edges were brittle dry and the center was not moist nor soft. The cabbage soup had too much vinegar and therefore was acidic- not Hasidic. Lol I was dissatisfied with the meal and won't go back.

The double decker reubenator did not disappoint! The potato pancake was cooked perfectly but just lacked some salt. Slaw super creamy. Pickles great. The service was just a bit confusing as it's kind of a hybrid of seat yourself table service and counter service so I thought I was being pushing standing in line to pay.

Disgusting. Had someone pick up a turkey sandwich for me. Got a greasy tortilla wrap with rancid smelling meat and hot lettuce. So gross. Can't they just make a turkey on rye? (Not the Thanksgiving thing, it's August). Why was this even an option? I know people love this place, but I'll never eat their food.

Double decker Reuben with Pastrami and Rye

Had the opportunity to visit Cincy and decided to check out Izzy's due to its fame. As a Reuben lover, I had to see what all the fuss was. Now let's be real, if you're looking for Katz Deli - this ain't it. However, this is an excellent sandwich place. Had the double decker with a layer of corned beef and one of pastrami. One thing I loved about this sandwich is they offered it griddled. That's one thing the New Yorkers get wrong - a Reuben is better pressed, griddled, or toasted. So when you get this sandwich, ASK FOR IT GRIDDLED. Excellent the bread with a nice crust and so buttery and flaky when done this way. The meat is thinly sliced, tender and full of flavor. Love both meats but actually prefer the pastrami. The kraut is nice, crisp, and has a refreshing flavor. They get the amount of thousand island exactly right and the cheese is perfect. The potato pancake is a little greasy but has a nice profile. Crispy and chewy but with mushy innards. The onion notes are fantastic. Actually one of the best I've had. The value is hard to beat! The service was exceptional. And I love that the sandwiches automatically come with a pancake. Would definitely dine here again given the chance.

This was a trip down memory lane for me since I remembered going to Izzy's prior Elm Street location just down the block back in the 1970's. Hubby ordered the beef barley soup, a half Tommy sandwich and potato cake with Diet Pepsi while I had a half corned beef and egg salad sandwich on rye with half sweet/half unsweet tea. Our server was cheerful and friendly! While waiting for the food I munched on sliced pickles, which are in a crock on each table. The food was delicious and filling. We ended the meal with cookies, an oatmeal raisin and a white chocolate macadamia nut. Unfortunately the cookies were not as good as the rest of the meal. I got a jar of pickles to take home since they aren't available in the grocery stores at home. We will definitely return to Izzy's, either this location or another, but will probably skip the cookies for a different sweet.

Horrible food. I had the Rueben it was very small and not very tender on the meat. The potato pancake was dry. This is Not a Jewish deli.

Came here during restaurant week just to try the restaurant and can say I will be back!…read more I ordered the Ceaser salad with the short rib empanada and short rib gnocchi. The Ceaser salad was the best Ceaser salad I ever had! The short rib empanada and the gnocchi was good as well but the gnocchi was covered in scallions. That wasn't stated on the menu or by our server when I asked if onions were in the dish, so unfortunately I did have to send that back and have it remade then ate the rest once I got back home. I also tried the Black Angus NY and it melt in my mouth like butter. They were busy and it did take a while for the food to come out but the wait was worth it.

Wow! What a way to spend our 1 year wedding anniversary! I loved this place…read more It has been a few months since eating here but I still find myself thinking about it. Our next trip to Cincinnati; It will be extremely difficult to stay away from here. We spent the day in Newport and around Cincinnati and wanted somewhere nice for the occasion. I was iffy on this place at first... you can throw a rock all over America and hit a place with 'Barrel' in the name these days. The Yelp reviews swing both ways here but I'm here to tell you my take... because it swings so far towards the 5 stars that it's very much a 6 or 7 star place(maybe more). We gauged our arrival time based on other activities that day. We wanted ample time at the nearby Lego exhibit so when we arrived there, we made a reservation for 4:30-5. Eating early and making our way back to Louisville was a great idea. The entire time we were there, no one else came in so we had the entire place to ourselves(It was a Friday). The atmosphere is homey but during busy times, I could see it being noisy. The booths could easily fit 6 people comfortably... probably 8 in some cases depending on how wide some of you are. Special Note: This place highlights The Parrillada Experience for Two on their menu and we wanted it! We didn't order it because at a price tag of 130-and pictures online, we didn't want it to be a failed outing. After our first trip, The Parrillada Exp will be on the agenda next time. It's a mixture of different steaks, sausages, shrimp, sides, and salads. Definitely worth the cost. On to the food: Sausage App - Argentine Chorizo. Farmhouse Sausage. Grilled Ciabatta. Hearts of Palm. Green/Red chimichurri. Pepper Relish. I don't like ordering this type of dish when I go places because you never know if it's going to be delicious or very bad. It ended up being super delicious. We couldn't make up our mind which sauce we liked the best and which meat we liked the best. App PERFECTION! Land and Sea - This is what my wife went with. Asada Skirt Steak. Jumbo Shrimp. Asparagus. Red chimichurri butter. I had bites of the shrimp and it was good. I had to save room for my dish. Wagyu Denver Cut - I went back and forth. Lobster ravioli being on the menu almost made my decision instant but I was going back and forth between ravioli, steak, and a few other things. I asked the server which he recommended of the 4 Chef's cuts. He recommended two... one of which was the Wagyu so I went with it. I wasn't disappointed AT ALL. He mentioned that the Wagyu Denver Cut was a new addition to the menu... I'm not sure but you could definitely tell it was cooked, arranged, and presented with care. I savored every angle of every bite. We also ordered a side of brussels because of course! Originally we were going to dessert somewhere else but went ahead and ordered the Hazelnut Vanilla Creme Brulee here. Perfect ending to the meal. This brulee was light and had the right amount of crunch. It was also larger than expected. We had no complaints with this place. Easily one of the better restaurants I've had in Cincinnati. If you're doubting visiting this place, take the dive! Other notes: They have beer and a small cocktail variety but they primarily seem focused on wine(plenty of options to choose from).

The good first, though: Whatever the flaws in its business model, Green District still turns out well-conceptualized salads that always seem fresh and tasty. The Hide & Go Greek is a very nice chicken one with a robust, terrific dressing. The Thai One On salad is (you guessed it) an Asian-influenced one with shrimp, lots of cabbage and cilantro, and a kind of generic but fresh-tasting Asian-style ginger-heavy dressing. Also very good. Fortunate thing you can order online and don't have to verbalize those unwieldy salad names to a fellow human. (But if you think those names are bad, another one wants you to hold its beer: the Tequila Mockingbird.). Anyway, the food gets this to three stars, but only barely. Alas, the service at this location is a shambles. Count on at least a 35-minute wait, even if you order right after 11am, when things presumably ought not to be backed up. And it looks like chaos back there--just not enough employees back there, most likely. Last time it took this restaurant an incomprehensible 50 minutes to get my salad out. (Who with a regular lunch "hour" downtown has time for this?) Credit to the unflappable and put-upon young fella at the end of the line; he kept doing his job steadily and kept cheerful about it. The manager is always madly rushing about and isn't nearly as cheery (but it almost certainly isn't her fault, either). It astonishing that the food can be is good as it is in this environment. There's something very wrong about this restaurant's business model when the family-run lunch spot down the street (seemingly just as many orders) can crank out your to-go salad (as good as here, for the most part) in three to five minutes and be as friendly as they can be about it. Whoever came up with the plan has some major issues to resolve.
