I ordered from the izzy's on elm street today. Called in ahead of time to make an order with Tracy. This is one of my most favorite locations but the last time i ordered even though typically the food is excellent, the bread seemed old and the meat was a bit dried out as i get it cut thin. I spoke with Tracy, who was very nice and and told her about my last experience she promised to make my sandwich and was very knowledgeable about the questions i asked. I received my order and it was perfect. Fresh, Warm, delicious, not dry. I just want to thank her and acknowledge her professionalism and follow through. It was a wonderful lunch day! read more

Izzys was actually good mid-80s. Not now. Not worth going to. Can make much better Reubens at home. Izzys Reuben sandwich bread was soggy because they didnt squeeze the liquid out of the saurkraut & brown it some in separate skillet to remove water. Izzys doesnt use dark rye bread for their Reubens. Real Reubens are made with dark rye bread put in a skillet with butter to toast with Swiss cheese melted on each slice bread, then add real corned beef thats been sauteed in skillet to remove excess water as well as real saurkraut thats been sauteed in skillet to remove all water & brown the kraut a bit, then top it with Thousand Island dressing. Pickles on the side. Add chips if desired. read more

Izzy's famous reuben sandwich is piled with corned beef, sauerkraut, Izzy's special dressing and melted imported Swiss cheese. The meat was delicious and not too salty. It was worth the visit but what truly won me over was the potato pancakes. They were deep fried which I don't think is typical at a lot of places. It was extra crispy on the outside and had a good mashed-potato consistency on the inside. We also tried the pastrami to which I was indifferent to. Everything Izzy's is supposed to be: welcoming and familial with good food. My potato pancake was piping hot and delicious.

The restaurant is clean and cozy, and the service was prompt and very friendly. I read a lot of reviews before I decided to try Izzy's, and I'm honestly confused by the bad ones. Mostly people complain the "sandwiches aren't stuffed like a NYC deli sandwich." I had a reuben in NYC a couple of months ago. Yep, it was definitely "stuffed", and it cost me $28!!!!! I also read the potato pancakes are "greasy". Well, as I do at home, I pressed mine between a few napkins, and viola!! - not greasy!! I ordered a grilled, pastrami "Reubenator". It was plenty stuffed with tender meat, tasty sauerkraut and a nice sauce, on crispy bread. It was a big handful of awesome sandwich! The potato pancake was crisp and delicious. With an iced tea, my meal was only $18. I guarantee that is something you will not find in NYC! EXCELLENT meal, served by very nice, polite and friendly people, in a clean and cozy restaurant. Disappointed. Ordered the 1/2 sandwich with soup and potato pancake. My pastrami was not dry but was salty and although it wasn't a stuffed samwich I had bread left when the meat was gone. The rye bread was a light version and not dense which is the version I prefer to eat with a lot of seed. The potato pancake was over cooked and therefore about 1-2 inches around the edges were brittle dry and the center was not moist nor soft. The cabbage soup had too much vinegar and therefore was acidic- not Hasidic. Lol I was dissatisfied with the meal and won't go back. read more

A friend recommended I go there for a NY style deli sandwich. FORGET IT! Had a pastrami on rye that looked like a child's size. Not only that , it was priced higher than some of the average delis in the area which put more meat on them. Very disappointed! read more

The double decker reubenator did not disappoint! The potato pancake was cooked perfectly but just lacked some salt. Slaw super creamy. Pickles great. The service was just a bit confusing as it's kind of a hybrid of seat yourself table service and counter service so I thought I was being pushing standing in line to pay. read more

Had the opportunity to visit Cincy and decided to check out Izzy's due to its fame. As a Reuben lover, I had to see what all the fuss was. Now let's be real, if you're looking for Katz Deli - this ain't it. However, this is an excellent sandwich place. Had the double decker with a layer of corned beef and one of pastrami. One thing I loved about this sandwich is they offered it griddled. That's one thing the New Yorkers get wrong - a Reuben is better pressed, griddled, or toasted. So when you get this sandwich, ASK FOR IT GRIDDLED. Excellent the bread with a nice crust and so buttery and flaky when done this way. The meat is thinly sliced, tender and full of flavor. Love both meats but actually prefer the pastrami. The kraut is nice, crisp, and has a refreshing flavor. They get the amount of thousand island exactly right and the cheese is perfect. The potato pancake is a little greasy but has a nice profile. Crispy and chewy but with mushy innards. The onion notes are fantastic. Actually one of the best I've had. The value is hard to beat! The service was exceptional. And I love that the sandwiches automatically come with a pancake. Would definitely dine here again given the chance. read more

I am in disbelief with how delicious this place is!! My husband and I split a Rueben and then a pastrami on pretzel roll. The potato cakes are absolutely to die for as well. We had been meaning to try this place for a while since it is beside a Chuck-E-Cheese that our kids go to quite often. Boy have we been missing out this entire time! This was a trip down memory lane for me since I remembered going to Izzy's prior Elm Street location just down the block back in the 1970's. Hubby ordered the beef barley soup, a half Tommy sandwich and potato cake with Diet Pepsi while I had a half corned beef and egg salad sandwich on rye with half sweet/half unsweet tea. Our server was cheerful and friendly! While waiting for the food I munched on sliced pickles, which are in a crock on each table. The food was delicious and filling. We ended the meal with cookies, an oatmeal raisin and a white chocolate macadamia nut. Unfortunately the cookies were not as good as the rest of the meal. I got a jar of pickles to take home since they aren't available in the grocery stores at home. We will definitely return to Izzy's, either this location or another, but will probably skip the cookies for a different sweet. read more

I hadn't been to Izzy's since I worked Downtown. I'm retired now but happened to see the current CEO and his worker named Ryan preparing and profiling the famous classic Reuben. I absolutely loved these sandwiches back in the day! I recall the downtown location packed with judges, retail workers and government staff, I mean it was literally it was standing room only! However, none of us cared because the food was exceptional, the service was great, and everyone always seemed to be having a good time! I worked across the street in the Federal Bldg so it was a short trip for me to go over and bring back sandwiches not only for myself but my entire staff. Fridays were Izzy days! When I saw the preview for St.Patrick's Day I was reminded fondly reminded of those days so decided to introduce my grandkids (young adults) to Izzy's. I headed over to the closest location in Madisonville and bought not one but 4 Reuben's with the delicious potato cakes! Unfortunately, the experience was no where near what I expected. My sandwiches were ready almost immediately which might be appreciated by some but for me it felt like they had been prepared in advance and sitting. When I got home to enjoy one the bread wasn't toasted or buttered as demonstrated on the program or as I recalled and there was barely enough sauerkraut or dressing. I didn't have the heart to try the potato cake. Sadly I won't return to Izzy's again. I'd rather remember them in better days! Hope the location downtown is still offering the same service and ambiance as they did in the old days. There still a few of us around to enjoy it!! read more

The staff was really friendly and gave me some tips on places to visit on Cincinnati. I got a Reuben with the potato pancake and was pleased (and my taste is off due to being sick). Guess I should have tried the Reuben! Knowing this is on some of the local food tours, we decided to include this as part of our very own "tastes of Cincinnati" food tour. We were primarily focused on sampling the potato pancake... which was a disappointment to both of us. We also tried the Thanksgiving On A Roll... also a disappointment. The cream cheese seemed out of place and the cranberry relish barely hinted off cranberries. The restaurant was clean and our server was friendly. As my wife and I were leaving and noting the yearly awards this place has received, we talked about the mismatch between those awards and our experience. First time trying Izzy's was a great experience. My husband and I both got the daily special with soup, a half sandwich, and a potato pancake. Both soups were amazing, beef vegetable and beef barley. Would definitely order again. The sandwiches were good, however I'm just not a fan of telera rolls, apparently, so I'd probably try a different bread next time, it was just too much bread for me personally. But the turkey Reuben and roast turkey sandwiches were good. The star of the show, however, was the potato pancake. I could eat my weight in those. I haven't had anything like that before. Crispy, fluffy inside, and just the right balance of onion flavor with the potato. The service was also great, our waitress was super friendly and prompt, and took great care of us, even making recommendations for our first time. This is first and last place I go to in Cincinnati for a great sandwich. I don't know why this place would only have three and a half stars. The service was awesome even during rush hour for lunch. Great service. They have the best Ruben out there but I usually go with the thanksgiving on a bun. Delicious turkey with cranberry sauce with a generous portion of cream cheese. We love this place! The Goetta Ruben is our favorite. We always grab our food to-go, sometimes calling ahead and sometimes just walking in to order at the counter. We usually visit around late lunch and it's never busy. But you might have a little wait because everything is made fresh. The food is excellent. I had a half Reuben and a Latke. The rice pudding was very good. The staff is professional and friendly.

The place is a little joint that is famous for Reuben sandwiches. The item I wanted looked like a Reuben pressed panini on yelp, but what I got instead was meat and sauerkraut smooshed between white bread slices(which I realized once I reached home,as it was a takeout). The potato pancake was ok and it was not immediately prepared but had been sitting for a while. This disappointed me a little because I read other reviews raving about the potato pancake. 3 stars because in-spite of what I got, the Reuben filling was not too bad. They can probably work a little more on the services and checking for the correct order. read more

It's been a long time since I have eaten here. Last time, the sandwiches were a far cry from the "over stuffed" sandwiches by the original owners. Thought I'd give it another try today. Ordered online. When I rang out, I realized my charge was higher than that on the menu. I called to find out why. I learned that there was a $1.50 upcharge for online orders. Nowhere does it state/warn the customer of this additional charge. Sorry, but the sandwiches do not warrant the up charged price. So,.... against my better judgement, I drove to the establishment to get a corned beef and swiss sandwich. When I ordered at the drive thru, I noticed that the prices were different than what was on the order online menu. Instead of the 11.89 price + the $1.50 up charge, the price was 12.39. The sandwich came out with the cheese slightly melted but definitely not toasted. I inquired what happened to the "over stuffed" sandwiches and was told that each has a 1/4 lb of meat weighed on every sandwich. Well, given I used to work at Izzy's and my father owned a deli, I am pretty positive he is lying or their scale needs to be calibrated. I am pretty sure the size of my mouth has not gotten that much bigger. Used to be you couldn't get your mouth around a sandwich and a half was more than filling. Not anymore. They charge extra for kraut and pickles but these items used to be served in unlimited for free. Received no ketchup for my pancake so had to eat it dry....blech! It wasn't even hot- more blech. Maybe instead of expanding to more locations, they should concentrate on fixing the ones they have. The Kadetz family would be rolling in their graves at the "Izzy's" of today. Sad that such an iconic Cincinnati establishment has become just another sandwich shop with ok food. I'd advise the establishment to warn the customer of the online upcharge sp they know before they place their order. I would advise potential customers to try ANDERSON'S DELI in Kenwood Towne Center for a REALLY GREAT OVERSTUFFED RUEBEN!! DELICIOUS!! read more
