When I was here it was nice seeing a variety of people around-- people doing work, friends hanging out, couples on dates, and families with their kids... it was nice to see a place that is very accommodating to different crowds! & they are open pretty late which is nice since cafes around here tend to close early. Went here with friends and we ordered ice cream to share and each a different drink-- overall, found everything to be a too sweet but at the same time lacking flavor?? For example, I got a matcha and found the drink to be too sweet but not tasting at matcha at all. Sadly a bit disappointing. Inside, the cafe is spacious and attractive. With giant windows, lots of light, and a large library display along one entire wall, there's a nice, studious ambiance for anyone looking to pass a few hours chatting with a friend or getting some work done (to that end, free Wifi available). There's also a nice variety of seating choices for all group sizes - with lower two- and four-top tables for small groups and higher seating by the front window. There's a decent amount of pastries on display along the queueing area, but from our last few visits here, it seems that the drinks and specialty desserts (bubble teas and specialty desserts like the shaved ices) are most popular. Since many of these are made-to-order, the line moves at a snail-like pace. During our last visit, the line crawled to a standstill for nearly ten minutes as the few workers struggled to get preceding orders out before accepting new ones. As a result, we had a ton of time to decide on what we wanted. It was a disappointing surprise to find out both our first and second choices were unavailable. The bingsoo, for instance, is a summer-only item, and they had no bubbles left for the bubble tea we wanted. Hung dry, we impulsively ordered two scoops of gelato - pistachio and matcha - both of which were squarely in the 'not sweet' category of Asian desserts. In fact, they were almost bitter and unlikeable. We also grabbed some walnut cookies, which turned out to be well past their prime and almost dry and crumbly in texture. While I had some qualms with quality and menu availability, I ended up enjoying my visit anyhow, as this was still a nice cafe to sit and pass the time. If you're needing a comfortable spot to work or people watch (with a more standard drink order in mind), this is a neat spot to do so. I've been a steady customer for years, out of convenience I guess, its definitely not been because of the food, service or atmosphere. The fact is the food and service has always been bad -- really bad when I think about it. But today was my official last day at this dive. The nail in the coffin for me? Caffe Bene started putting no parking stickers on customers cars who park in the parking lot who they feel stay too long. Shocked to see it on my car after I just paid for food. Damaged the paint on my car. Never going back to this poorly run cafe. But, hey, it's definitely no loss, the food has always been tasteless and overpriced, the staff has always been inattentive and rude and the atmosphere has always been kinda gross -- terrible decor (I'm always worried the furniture might have bed bugs) it's so old and falling apart -- yuck! Another less than ideal experience here (I should probably stop trying). I met my friend here for coffee on a Sunday morning. The store was relatively empty besides one large party which ordered ahead of us and there was only one person behind the register. I ordered tea and my friend ordered coffee. It took about ten minutes just for those two items. My friend asked for decaf coffee with oat milk. The coffee she got was neither decaf or prepared with oat milk. How do you miss the whole essence of the order? The guy offered to make it again (more waiting) and he let her keep both drinks at no extra cost, but it was a little frustrating that he missed the whole order. I still like this cafe though because it's spacious and comfortable and has outdoor seating. The tea and food offerings aren't even what I'm particularly drawn to, but I'm not sure it's really worth coming here. read more

Came here after dinner and got the banana and walnut honey toast. I shared with one other person and it was just the right amount for the both of us. The middle portion of the bread was a bit dry. I wish they added more sauce so the middle portion wouldn't have been as dry. Regardless, it was a good way to end a meal. This is a very cute cafe with great food and drink as well a sample seating. The aesthetic was very nice and seats very comfortable. First of all, the seats are VERY LOW. I believe the seats near the walls may be a bit taller --- but just fair caution, if anyone is above 5'9 --- the chairs take a bit of getting used to. Friends and I came to get some dessert after some good korean bbq. We got the Matcha Bingsoo and the Strawbanana Waffle (yes, that's how it was spelled.). After placing the order, the Bingsoo came out fairly quickly. The texture of the ice was literally shaved....it was so delicate. I loved the texture...the matcha taste went amazing with the red beans; I give it the ultimate asian dessert compliment: "NOT TOO SWEET". It was wonderful. The downer? Suprisingly, the waffle! If you like waffles, sure get it --- but it took a while and although it was crispy, boy --- was it tough to cut through to share! THE STRUGGLE WAS, INDEED, REAL. And a struggle to eat stawberries and bananas with chocolate sauce and whipped cream? I could pass on this struggle next time. My advice? This is the largest Caffe Bene that I've been in. There are many seats for sit-in and this is the only cafe Bene I've been to that isn't dark and dim. They've added bingsoo to the menu and I'm so glad they did! I tried the matcha bingsoo and it was really good. The snow cream was creamy and soft. It comes with green tea ice cream, some Mochi pieces, walnuts and red bean. (We omitted the red bean). We ordered drinks and a mango bingsoo (Korean shaved ice). I had the lavender lemonade which tasted more like soda but it was refreshing and had a subtle lavender flavor. The mango bingsoo had shaved ice (soft snow like ice), mango ice cream, chunks of fresh mango, and condensed milk. The mango was really ripe and fresh not frozen. The portion was large enough to share with 4 people. I see why there's a 3 star place due to the horrible service I received but I have to say, their food and drink items were pretty good. Out of all places, I did not expect Fort Lee to have some of the best desserts I've ever had in my entire life. It was a little hot today so my family were all craving some sort of ice cream. Imagine our surprise when we came across a cafe that served bingsu! We decided to go with the Mango Bingsu as well as the Strawberryana Waffle. The Mango Bingsu had some really sweet and juicy mango pieces on top of a delicate bed of shaved milk ice + condensed milk. It was the perfect mix between refreshing and sweet! The waffle was freshly made to order, although a little harder than I would've liked. Nonetheless, very buttery and memorable. Generally, I would recommend this coffee shop for the food and drinks, but keep in mind you might not be able to work here since the wifi hardly works. I'm quite surprised to find a 3-star rating for my favorite coffee shop to date. This location is HUGE. There's always plenty of seating available, and even if I don't get my preferred seat upon arrival, a table opens up sooner or later. My friend and I came here at around 7:30 on a Monday. I got a taiyaki with red bean paste and she got a piece of the dark chocolate cake. My taiyaki was a good size, perfectly crispy, and full of sweet red bean paste. My friend would rank her cake as 7.5, as it was very rich but she thought too expensive ($6) for just one piece. I finally ended up here after avoiding it due to the 3-star review after finding the restaurant next door closed and I'm so happy that I did. I loved being here and I loved the food. In 2024 people have no need to carry cash anymore so when I went to pay for something that costs $5, I mentioned that I don't have cash, only card. They seem to get a lot of business anyways because it's a big space where people chill or study, so they didn't care that my feelings were hurt by their attitude. Checked out this joint for the first time this weekend. Knew that caffe bene is a chain and nothing spectacular but this place is actually quite nice. Went here early on a Saturday morning around 8:30. Just a few customers on their morning coffee grind and doing some work, not too busy. The interior looks pretty rustic. A lot of tables and places to sit. Nice bookshelf by the windows. Good lighting by the windows if you just want to read the morning paper. I wanted to get their taiyaki but then there was only one dude working the front and said it'll take 20 minutes cause they just open up shop. Wells I passed and ended up getting their almond croissant. Tasted pretty good though. Wife got the strawberry cream cheese honey toast. Never heard of this. Took a bite, not too shabby. Definitely interesting though. Would order again. Would come again early Saturday mornings. Nice and quiet and can relax with a coffee and pastry.
