I can't really really judge this place yet, but I am going to anyway. I went on their 3rd day somehow and added it to yelp. Somehow amazing places find me sometimes. It must be the yelp elite in me that attracts them. I was craving coffee at Avalon. I walked in and it was crazy busy, but it wasn't really because at first I thought that the window was actually a door to their dining area where you can sit down. Later I realized that's ANTICO! Antico was crazy jam packed and this place was not too bad. Caffe Gio's gelato looked amazing, but it seemed too decadent for my taste at that moment so I stuck to just coffee. I wanted to get a million different coffees, but the menu was very limited due to the fact that their syrups shipment hasn't come yet. I couldn't try their affogato (where they add ice cream to the espresso) and I couldn't try their lattes with nutella. Caffe Gio just kept teasing me with their menu. So I'm just going to truly review it when I come back and try these amazing sounding things and just say that this is a cute coffee shop at Avalon. Avalon needed a coffee shop since it's an awesome hang out place otherwise. I think Caffe Gio, a European style Italian gelato and coffee venue, filled that need nicely. PS: Their cappuccino is amazing. It's cute and simple, but great quality. If you're looking for something sweet, I wouldn't get it, but if you're a coffee lover, I would definitely try it. read more

Eh. Service wasn't super friendly. I was able to sample two things while the sign stated only one sample per person. The pistachio and strawberry gelato were good, but it wasn't awesome to any degree. With these two flavors, my friend and I shared the large cup--$6. There was a good amount of spaces inside and some tables outside as well. Aim for the movie theater, and this place is to the left of it. read more

I came here to satisfy my sweet tooth while shopping, and I was not let down. They made my cannoli fresh and filled it up with cream and chocolate chips. The cannoli was crispy and rich just like it should be. My brother got the cookies and cream gelato, and he really enjoyed it. The only reason for 4 stars was because it was quite expensive for a relatively small portion. Definitely give the cannolis a try. read more

Needed to get rid of my garlic breath from Antico so went next door for coffee and gelato. My friend is a huge fan of their iced coffee - I try to avoid caffeine so I got gelato instead. I was so happy when they said I could sample the different flavors - their midtown location does not. I asked the very friendly staff for their favorite flavors - one said Stracciatella (chocolate chip), the other said Nocciola (hazelnut). I tried both. I also sampled Pistachio b/c I've always been a huge Pistachio fan. All good flavors. The single is $5, and double is $6. I asked if I could get two different flavors in the single - they said no, you have to get the double. So I got a double: one scoop Stracciatella, one scoop Pistachio. Turned out to be too much for me - and it melts rather quickly. I looked at my review of the midtown location - last time I shared the double w/ a friend, and got Caramel and Pistachio. It appears I forgot the Caramel is very good. I'd recommend getting at least one scoop of Caramel ... actually that's more a note to self :) read more

I'm basing this review solely on the coffee; they also have gelato and other things on the menu that looked quite appealing too. Came here hanging out with my friends at Avalon for the day and stopped by to get our usual coffee fix. The place looks great, right next to Antico pizza and Regal cinemas. I went for the iced latte, they serve it without sugar so that you can sweeten it at your own taste, the latte was good and the staff was very friendly. Nice place to catch up with your friends for sure, I would like to come back soon and try their gelato next time. All in all a nice visit. P.S. Can I just mention the fact that it seems like finally is easier to park in Avalon compared to last time I visited haha, definitely a plus. read more

The decor is nice. I don't know how to describe it but it's fresh. But that's where the freshness ends. I got a slice of tiramisu for $7. It was about 4"x4" and pretty good but for that much I can buy a whole pie at Trader Joe's. I also got the small gelato ($5) opposed to the larger one ($6). Freaking both cups are a tad bigger than the cups at the dentist's office you use to spit. I don't know what's a good gelato but this was the same as the other alleged awesome authentic gelato. The teenage looking girls didn't add to the experience. They were unfriendly with one clearly not wanting to work. Blah. Overall, this place is not worth my money but there aren't too many ice cream options in the area so they'll continue to rake. read more

Great spot for ice cream, we can just roll around on the fake grass just outside the shop in summer while the ice cream drops from our hands. Perfect! Only downside is that it's a bit overpriced, but can be overlooked considering it shall be our once a year summer activity :D lol! read more

I was pretty disappointed. My brother and I were exploring Avalon when I noticed out of the corner of my eye Caffe Gio. I remarked that I thought Caffe Gio sold gelato, so my brother suggested we go check it out. They charge $5 for a "singolo" (one flavor) and $6 for a "mezzo" which the guy at the counter said is two flavors. Based on that alone, it would have been more cost-effective to just get a mezzo, but for some idiotic reason, each of us got a singolo. My guess is that even if you got the mezzo, each scoop would be pretty small because the mezzo cup wasn't too much bigger than the singolo cup. My brother, being on the indecisive side, asked if he could try a sample. I already knew from reading reviews of the midtown Caffe Gio that they do not allow this, and the same goes for here. A lot of people are angry about this, judging by the reviews on here. I would say that the owner should reconsider this policy. The prices are rather exorbitant for what you get, and I think the least he could do is allow customers to sample what they are paying a premium for, no? I got the Fragole (strawberry) and brother got the Pistacchi. We also got a couple cannolis to go ($3.50 each) because my brother mentioned trying them at Antico's a couple years ago (same owner runs both establishments) and he really loved them. They have the shells ready to go and will fill it up with your filling of choice (original or chocolate) and dip it in your choice of topping (I saw toasted coconut, ground up pistachio and some other nuts, white chocolate chips and dark chocolate chips). We opted for original filling with dark chocolate chips. We went outside to enjoy our treats. I really did enjoy my strawberry gelato, it was just a puny serving size. I tried some of the pistachio and found it odd-tasting -- the gelato itself was a bit bland, and then the pistachios must have been roasted because they were very strong-flavored and mushy as well :( The cannoli had a lemony taste to it, and I see I am not the only one who thought so. The more I bit into it, the filling started to taste more sour than lemony. What was up with that?! No food poisoning, but I can't say the thought didn't cross my mind. read more

Caffe Gio should be a great dessert choice after any dinner eaten at any of the Avalon restaurants, but it falls a little short of my expectations. $7 per dessert slice. I should have taken a picture. For a slice of their nocciola cake which is less than 3-fingers wide, it was $7. At best, I would have paid $5 for it. I'll give it to them for their quality of tiramisu. A serving of tiramisu was twice the size of the nocciola cake, but the same price. I'll come back for other items, but it's kind of overpriced. I'd really much rather drop by Whole Foods' bakery to get my cake/dessert fix after dinner. Service was ok. We were there 30 min before closing on a Saturday night and the staff seemed frazzled over the late surge of people there for drinks/desserts. Service is not good... No one knows where the line is or where to place an order. Almost all the employees I have spoken to are grumpy, upset or just annoyed with everyone and anything. Way over priced for coffee and dessert. Gelato is very good though. On Sat, my husband and I went because it is the only coffee shop in the area. My husband asked the barista, "Excuse me ma'am, are you making the caramel lattes?" (The place was a mess so we didn't know how they would know who the coffee went to) The barista responded angrily, "I'm working on it!" I was shocked. This place is nice and casually trendy. The decor is very nice and looks expensive. The menu is not that big. They serve gelato, pastries and good coffee. I've tried the pastries. They are not too rich or too sweet. The creme brûlée is not really creme brûlée it is mainly flan consistency with espresso coffee. It is good but not what you would expect. A must try item on the menu is the Affogato, gelato served in espresso. It is served in a beautiful latte glass. It is dessert and coffee in one! They only have 4 coffees on the menu. I wished they had more options. I always ask them to make my macchiato (shot of espresso) into an Americano by adding hot water to it and they honor my request. We had a pleasant conversation about the shop's venus flytrap and I was more than satisfied with her service. Afterwards we sat there and finished the dessert on the nice barstools. I took my kids there to get gelato before the movie. The place was not busy with no line. We ordered two single cup of gelato,one slice of fruit tart and one bottle water. Total is $20. My Stracciatella gelato was amazing. I devoured it in a few minutes and was very satisfied. Haven't tried the coffee here yet. Many reviews sound like they have never had gelato before. I worked in a gelato shop for a few months so I would like to point some things out. Gelato is very dense and rich- you don't pile a sky high bunch of scoops on top of one another. If you want quantity, sorry, go to Bruster's or Coldstone. Two scoops of gelato is excessive and you will find that a single scoop is actually quite generous for the portion they give you. You also are supposed to eat gelato with that small spoon. It allows you to enjoy it longer. You are not supposed to gobble gelato down. It is even CALLED a gelato spoon. And yes, it is supposed to be "stringy". Gelato is 20-30% air compared to ice cream which is usually around 50%. Gelato is much more dense, because it is NOT ice cream. Please do not post ignorant reviews stating that you'd rather go to another ice cream shop because this is not even ice cream. As for the service, it's a dessert shop/cafe. Who do you think they hire? Of course they hire teenagers. When has anybody ever been happy with the work a teenager does? Regarding the samples policy, it does not make them the devil. Nobody is obligated to give you their product for free. Really? One star because you think this is abhorrent? Alpharetta truly is full of people who are stuck up. Grow up people. The gelato looked good but if you want to try before you buy FORGET IT HERE! according to the untrained teenager server management strictly prohibits tasting a flavor before you buy. And if you buy and don't like it there is a NO REFUND policy! This is an antiquated concept that is anti-consumer. We had 5 in our group and would have spent $30+ on gelato and coffee . A taste to determine what we like would have cost maybe 2 cents but instead they lost 5 customers for life. If you want a frozen dessert go across the street for some yogurt. Service is great and they offer tasting before you ask I recommend avoiding Gio at all cost. Even if you enjoy the pizza next store try another option for dessert. read more

Sadly, this Caffè is not worth the price nor the time. We ordered a chocolate crossaint and an expresso specialty Nutella. The coffee wasn't coffee, it was a shot of expresso with a lump of Nutella at the bottom of the cup. The crossaint was stale and hard and when I asked if they could heat it up, the lady told me that the stove was turned off.... Not worth $8 people, save your money for Starbucks! read more

Poor service. Ordered a cappuccino to go. Several minutes later, I noticed other customers that ordered after me left with coffee. I asked about my order and they said, "sorry, the ticket fell". This is comical given there were 4 orders since mine and there were two employees working the counter. Where is the competency here? Most importantly, where was the hospitality? I wonder why they didn't offer anything for their screw up. A small dessert would have gone a long way with me. I also wonder why they didn't offer me the other customer's latte they made, which required the same shots of espresso and steamed milk. They thought I should continue to wait for the customers that visited after me. This is so stupid, I cannot comprehend what they were thinking. The coffee and desserts are not great enough to accommodate poor service. Buyer beware! For the owners and inexperienced employee I dealt with, I wrote a letter for you. Please see below. I've been here before and liked the desserts. We went in on a slower Sunday afternoon. We stood in front of the cake counter for 5 minutes while the cashier ignored us, then started talking to his friend about going to raves. We switched lines to the gelato counter, where we were told we were in the wrong line. My wife commented that we'd been waiting a long time, and the girl just said "Oh, really?" . This place is usually ok- the gelato melts really fast but it's good. Although today, I don't know why, the service was absolutely horrible. I was the only person waiting in line and there were probably five people on duty. I stand at the counter waiting for a good five minutes- all the while on worker is cleaning coffee cups, two are making the gelato look pretty, one is at the register just standing, and one is walking around doing nothing. A coworker and I work at Avalon and get coffee from there almost every day (only because it's the only place to get coffee). Today we sat down in front of Gio at a table and 1 minute later was approached by an employee telling us that her manager asked us to leave because we weren't drinking Gio coffee, so we couldn't sit outside at a table. Our jaws dropped, and I'd like to point out that we couldn't even get coffee there today which would allow us to sit at a table, because the COFFEE SHOP doesn't open till 11:30. And one more thing..we were the ONLY people sitting outside or inside. A completely empty coffee shop, and we were asked to leave.
