I have to downgrade Caffe Ladro. The last several times I've gone for a coffee the barista is extremely slow. You can sit at the drive in for 5 minutes without someone coming to the window. You can be the second person in line for a coffee inside and still wait 5 minutes for the barista to finish her conversation with another patron. Sorry to say I'll be going to Starbucks from now on when in the area. Too bad b/c I love Caffe Ladro coffee and enjoy going to the stores in Seattle. read more

The coffee here is really tasty. It's also nice that they have a drive through. Another bonus is their baked goods. They are delicious, and offer vegan options that anyone would like. Why the three stars? The prices are high in my opinion. I've had some great service some times and just meh other times. Today after a morning that was too crazy for me to make myself a cuppa joe, my pooch and I decided to give the drive through a try. It was a speedy process and I have to say that I really enjoyed my Latte, it was smooth, not at all too sweet and the espresso was rich and dark, not at all bitter. However the star of my escapade was the Vegan Rhubarb Bar. The perfect layers of the sweet cinnamon oat mixture with a soft tart gooey Rhubarb center. I actually ended up eating the whole thing before I had two sips of my Latte! It was THAT good folks. It's also nice knowing that their products are made with Free Trade ingredients and to find Vegan offerings with my meat eating palate is also a plus. Best of all, they don't forget the pooches and Branimir was lucky enough to get a yummy little bone so we left with tails wagging and tummies satisfied! read more

Got the Medici(cold) and gulped it down in the time it took my wife to get the sugar in her Latte. The orange zest in the Medici gives the mocha an interesting twist. The interiors are warm and cozy, service was reasonably quick. Parking in the lot is limited, but there is street parking nearby. read more

Went through the drive -thru and whoever I spoke to was impatient and rude. Didn't take me forever to figure out what I wanted coffee wise but she kept rushing me to move forward. Coffee was scorching hot, took about 10 minutes to cool down before I could have a taste... Which I hate to say, wasn't worth the wait. I was completely disappointed. Boo... My favorite coffee shop in Bothell just happens to be one of my favorite in Seattle: Mohns, right next to Cafe Ladro, built out of a house with a very homey atmosphere. Unfortunately, bad business practices (like giving away too many drinks and an inconsistent schedule) combined with competition resulted in them going out of business. In Seattle, I've never been fond of Cafe Ladro because their environment isn't comfortable (they're almost all designed to keep people moving through), the wireless internet isn't free (it's based on orders of coffee which is fair, but can be inconvenient) and there are plenty of small, non-chain coffee shops (like Vivace, Trabant, Victrola, etc) to choose from instead. But this is Bothell, not Seattle. You don't have many options and with real-estate being cheaper and the population being less dense they were able to make the place a bit more hospitable - so when my normal choice for coffee failed I went to Cafe Ladro, putting my biases aside, expecting at least a decent cup of steamed milk. And this is the heart of my rambling review: this was the single worst steamed milk I've ever had. But maybe I'm spoiled? So I sucked it up and worked my way through it. Then I realized that the two people I was with were having similar reactions. We exchanged drinks and three very distinct orders had one thing in common: they were terrible. Had the milk gone bad? Did they overheat it? Is it just a super-rich syrup? It turns out there was no single common ingredient in all of our drinks so it must have been a process issue. Perhaps this was just a bad barista. It happens. Even at the best coffee shops. And the environment is fairly comfortable. But even so, I'd be much likely to recommend the Lion's Den up the road, right across the street from the post office. They don't have wireless internet (at all) but they do have friendly wait staff and a huge diverse menu of drinks (including coffee, tea, smoothies and even bubble tea). read more

Roooo-duuuhhh! I was visiting in Bothell and wanted to get anything but Starbucks coffee. I pulled through the drive thru here, and was met with a very simple menu. Good if you dont like being overwhelmed with words, bad if you need descriptions of the coffees listed. Super awful, if the person taking your order is a condescending coffee snob who refuses to explain things to you. Coffee wasn't up to par, and the service was just plain god-awful. I like Ladro espresso (I think you either love it or hate it), no matter how pricey it's getting. I feel like pricey espresso is just far too common anymore for me to care about it so I'll put that aside for this review. I like this location because there's a hideaway factor about it. It's tucked in between a few trees off one of Bothell's busier roads. It's usually a little more mellow than the Ladro I usually go to and it's open later which I really appreciate. There's a right amount of comfy, loungy spots and work tables. The bummer comes with the fact (and this goes for most Ladro's) that when I stay in, I'm never given my latte in a ceramic cup, but the paper one instead. :( Also, parking is *very* limited so be prepared to find street parking on during peak times. read more

I cannot in good faith recommend them anymore due to a horrible experience at the drive-through. The TL,DR version is that that they got my order wrong and just made rude excuses about it. They take my order at the speaker - a Medici and a chocolate croissant. I eventually get to the window - and the barista asks what coffee I ordered. I'm a bit confused - they should know what I ordered, but I tell the barista that I ordered a Medici. They claim they were just making sure... ok. Then someone else, a man, maybe the morning manager or something, asks if I ordered any food. At this point I'm a bit suspicious. Maybe they don't know what I ordered? I say that I didn't order any food, and then the man says he was just making sure. But - making sure of what? I *did* order food. He wasn't making sure of anything at all. At this point I'm admittedly frustrated. I tell the man that I did order food, but not to bother now. The man then gets into an argument , trying to make excuses about how they have to commit the orders to *memory* because they aren't supposed to write it down and 6-8 orders is a lot to keep track of, that the street noise is loud and they can't hear the order at the speaker *even though they repeated it back to me*. He continues to make excuses - while the barista is behind him holding my coffee. I then point out that my coffee is ready and I'd kind of like to get it because I need to get to work. The barista hands my coffee to me, then the man comes back to the window and continues to make excuses, saying they have new staff (even though only one barista appeared to be working the drive-through), etc. Even when I tell him that I need to go, and I'm wondering if the high turnover is because of him. I ask if I walked into the cafe whether they'd get my order correct, and he said probably. Ok then. I've been to a number of the local drive-through stands, they've never gotten my coffee order wrong. Panera never has. Starbucks doesn't have a drive-through, but they are packed in the morning and have never gotten my order wrong (maybe because they write the order on the cup instead of doing everything by memory.) But the kicker - and the reason they get one star - is he *never apologized*. (And also the Medici wasn't very good. New barista, I don't care, if I'm paying close to $5 for a cup of coffee it better damn well be excellent.) Will I ever be back? I think you can guess! read more

Coffee is decent and so is the service. Not the best but not the worst. I've been here at least 10 times and I am always surprised how dirty the public space is. The floor is always covered in crumbs, leaves, dirt. You can tell they haven't vacuumed in days/weeks. The side board/wainscoting has such a think layer of dust and there is cobwebs in the corners (right next to the creamer/mixing station). There is also creamer dripped over the walls, trash can and furniture. Bathroom was disgusting and had no soap or paper towels. There was a layer of grime/mold on the walls and sideboards. If they allow their public area to be so unclean then I worry about the cleanliness of the coffee/food prep area. read more

OK. I've had it. I've finally learned my lesson. While the gent at the service window is always a delight, it's the snarling woman at the drive thru microphone that always begins a visit to Cafe Ladro in Bothell. Does she not enjoy her job, taking people's coffee orders? This morning, she snarked, "We only have cinnamon rolls on weekends." Like I should KNOW this. The sign didn't say this. So why is it on the everyday menu then? What confirms my overall negativity about this Cafe Ladro is the homemade sign in the pick up window. It reads something like, "If you are at the window and have not ordered, please go BACK TO THE SPEAKER AT THE FRONT OF THE STORE to order." The emphasis is clearly on, "Hey idiot! You know how Jack in the Box works? Same thing here, doofus, now get back to the microphone so I can tell you we don't have this or that." Also: the muffins there suck. Perhaps Costco has ruined everyone else's muffins for me. Cafe Ladro's muffins might be eco-friendly or something (there's a lot of signage to indicate things are "green" there) but they're little organic free trade flavorless doughy little wheat flour balls. Is that a blueberry or a raisin? I honestly can't tell. And the coffee? This morning's latte was supposed to be hot. It wasn't. Not even close. I do like the guy at the service window - he's always cheerful and seems quite service oriented - but he's going to have to live without my dollar tip from now on. Starbucks! Here I come! read more

This place is not good. Based on my three trips here, the staff isn't the friendliest. The WiFi here is among the slowest I've ever experienced as well. I kind of get the feeling that they're trying to compete with Starbucks. Not in terms of speed, mind you, but more in terms of the way the coffee tastes. Really surprised to see reviews on slow service. I drop by weekly for my morning coffee before work and I am always really aware of time since I am commuting. Never have I had to wait long for my coffee, even with others in line. I also visit on Saturdays often, and again have never waited unusually long for my almond milk latte or almond milk mocha. Try the vegan oat bread and you will be a fan. You don't have to have a restrictive diet to try it - it's delicious! Good coffee, lovely decor. I love that there is outside seating and friendly staff. It's tucked away in an area that almost has it hidden. I had to make a sharp right turn to get there, almost passing it (I don't think the guy driving behind me was too happy about that!). I like that they are open past 6pm, though only until 10pm. It would be nice to find a coffee shop on the east side that is open late late! If anyone knows of one open past 11pm, let me know!! I will definitely frequent, especially considering they are open later and it's not Starbucks! read more

This place has higher potential. The coffee taste great, the pastries are much better than the other coffee chains (vegan bars, lots of different scones, quiche and the apple pie is well worth it) but the inconsistencies with coffee temperature and service (is slow too often) down grades this place to a 3. I measure the greatness of a coffee shop by the way they make a cappuccino. Cafe Ladro hit the mark on the first try. I even dared to order a tall. When you order a tall cappuccino at Starbucks you get a latte. A crappy latte! I also sampled the tall triple mocha, iced venti nonfat latte, frozen latte and some other bizarre coffee drink that my coffee pals had ordered. They were all great! Other points of interest: The interior was comfy. If you don't want to come in they have a drive through. The baristas were friendly enough. There was a pastry case with the usual fare. Parking lot is small but there was ample on street available. Bonus for making pretty swirls on top. When I pay a premium price for coffee I want it perfect. Cafe Ladro delivered. read more

Keep up the good work! I've been a cafe manger with big companies to small mom and pops over the last 10 years so I have to say I'm a little picky. My partner and I came into the Bothell location Saturday morning and were instantly greeted and had our drinks started, the barista on bar also repeated our orders to the friendly guy working the register so we didn't have to again. Our drinks were made right and our pastries tasted great. However the real reason I came here was to say that the kind young man working the register took mine and my partners pastry orders separately and asked each of us if we'd like our pastry warmed up! NO ONE DOES THIS, all across the Seattle area I find myself biting into hard cold pastries and waiting in line again or tracking down a barista to ask them if they can warm things up. (Including the other Ladro location we visit.) If you know your product is better and favored warm asking ahead of time and offering this makes you a rockstar. I'm a little biased on this review since I work right next to Caffe Ladro and they're my early morning saviors when I don't have time for breakfast at home. Drinks are good and priced fairly, baked goods are yummy. The cafe is warm and welcoming--much more so than the Bothell Starbucks....good for impromptu away from the office meetings. Get a pre-paid card and you'll end up getting free beverages after you buy 10 drinks. Nice! read more

This place could be SO much better than it is! I love every other Ladro location I've been to, so I am a bit biased. It's hard to compare and Bothell coffee shop with one in, say...Fremont. Bothell's gonna lose every time because Fremont is just way cooler. That being said, the coffee here is pretty good (esp. for the area) and there's free wi-fi, which is convenient since I am a UWB student and this Ladro is close to my campus. My biggest issue is that the manager - or at least I think she's the manager - always leaves the back door open and the place is FREEZING! I'm talking about the cute blonde that is always working...and understandably she works up a sweat because she busts her ass but here I am drinking my iced coffee with hypothermia. This is where I go to study, but when I am freezing my ass off I just sit there swearing under my breath as my teeth chatter. I don't get ANYTHING done. Last time I was there I took my coffee into my car in the parking lot, cranked up the heat, and picked up their wi-fi from in there. It was actually my most pleasant experience at the Bothell Ladro to date. read more

I have been visiting this location for the last 10+ years and typically have a good experience. This was a special occasion for a bad review because of the circumstances. My husband and I were on our way out of town on Friday July 12, and needed to make it to the Edmonds ferry on time. We drove through and ordered 2 quad grande frozen lattes, a very rare treat for us as we usually drink unsweetened beverages. It was almost 80F outside so needless to say we were excited for this treat! We waited in the drive through for almost 10 minutes, sounded like they were busy inside, and finally got our drinks. For a second they thought they were out of straws, but all seemed fixed and we were on our way. About half way to the freeway I had tasted my drink a couple times and knew something was WAY off. It was airy, frothy, not thick and creamy like it's supposed to be, and had ZERO sweetness. We seriously didn't have time to turn around in traffic and go back for replacements especially after how long the first visit took. We actually argued about what the drink was supposed to taste like for a bit before realizing that it was 100% obvious that they blended our drinks without the frozen latte mix. It was clear as day, only espresso and milk got blended, no creamy 80F weather, vacation milkshake-y treats for us. These drinks are not cheap, it was super gross and disappointing. We live in Edmonds and would love some compensation so we can pop into our trusty neighborhood location for redemption frozen lattes. read more

I got an oat milk latte (which was great) and a breakfast burrito. The breakfast burrito was literally the length of a ketchup packet and it wasn't even fully filled inside. It was a joke. I forgot how much I paid, but I know it wasn't cheap. They should probably advertise that it's HALF of a breakfast burrito. read more

This place is really cute with a warm ambience and a great spot to study/read/whatever. Yes, the wifi is a little slow, but it works and it's free so I don't think it's fair to knock a place down for that! Coffee is delicious and presentation is great, always get great latte art. The coffee is on the strong side so if you alter between black and with cream, go for the cream. But it's tasty and flavorful. Their pastries and snacks are good too, try the ham and swiss croissant or one of their quiches! This place is on the slow side, not because the staff is lazy or inattentive but because they chat with customers. It doesn't have the quick in-and-out feeling of a lot of Seattle places (or *coughstarbuckscough*) because the baristas are friendly and relational. Not a place to go if you're in a hurry, but a great spot to meet up with a friend or to study over good coffee! read more

I love the coffee at Ladro, and the location is good. I frequently meet people here for coffee, and will continue to. However, there are a few things that I think could improve about this place. As several other reviewers have said, the service is really slow. Even when I am the only person in line, it takes a long time for my drink to be made. Like at least five minutes. Other Ladro locations aren't slow, and the coffee is just as good. Also, where to get in line is confusing. In most coffee shops, you order at the cash register and then exit where you get your drink. It's the opposite here, and I've been barked at a couple times by baristas for doing it wrong. Oops. I had the worst cappucino I've ever had in my life here. When I asked them to remake it, it was slightly better, but still really really bitter and not good. The service was also terrible. The barista spent about 20 minutes sweeping the carpet and then opened the door by me, letting in a cold draft of air as I was sitting there, trying to read. Get a vacuum, for God's sake! And clean up after hours maybe? Ugh. Too much attitude, too much bad music and way too much bad coffee. read more

I like Ladro coffee was a fan in West Seattle too but for some reason at this location they 1. Yell at you if you order a pastry through the drive through speaker (they want you to order at the window after you placed your drink order) 2. They raised there prices (I paid $5.50 for a tall soy almond latte) not including tip! But the worst is 3) third time I've been there in 2 weeks and I burned my tongue again on my over heated not quite full 5.50 tall soy latte - Ladro Peeps please don't burn the coffee!!! Used to be my coffee place when I worked in Bothell. This place is pretty good, as long as you are very specific with your drink... seemed not a lot of consistency between baristas. Luckily I had one barista know exactly how I like my coffee and always made it for me. She understood my pain. One day, I just have to say, I was waiting in line... and a mouse scurried by me. I wasn't too surprised - the doors were open and they are in a wooded area - but still kind of caught me off guard. Wanted to be open minded and give a different place a shot with making my coffee. Been curious about this place unfortunately the curiosity has been shot. Don't get me wrong the barista was nice and their breakfast sandwich is nummy (thank god because I needed to get the taste out of my mouth) my iced white Chocolate Americano w cream was horrific. Worse than Starbucks a place I have sworn off since moving to Wa. So here is the breakdown; 4.00ish bacon egg cheese on an English muffin that saved my mouth and was only ordered after I took a sip of my coffee. 3.00ish for a coffee that's now in the trash 4.24 for my 24oz at my usual place ....having to drive down the road to my usual spot risking being late for school. The first time I visited Cafe Ladro was the best experience for me. The people here were so friendly and the coffee was just on point. Now every time I visit the Cafe, I feel like their coffee isn't as great as I thought (STILL BETTER THAN STARBUCKS). The latte has a lot of foam on the top which takes away from the great taste cafe ladro once had. I still am a fan of the coffee, but I feel like I need to see the right barista to make my coffee great. The coffee shop overall is great. It's small but its a great place to study! Their are outlets located at every table so don't worry about finding a good spot. read more

I've been a regular customer at this location for 20 years. The service, coffee and pastries have always been exceptional. However lately the level of customer service has slipped. Most specifically an annoying habit of closing the shop early whenever it's 80 + degrees outside claiming it's due to "extreme heat". Happened to me at least 10 times in the past month. The last time I walked in at 3pm on a Sunday, temps were 79 and before I even opened my mouth to speak, the male barista rudely informed me that their cash register was closed. I asked why are they closing so early in the day and I got "extreme heat" as a response. I said since when is 79 degrees extreme heat? I just wanted a cold brew which would've taken him 2 minutes to pour. No apologies for the inconvenience - just dead eyes. I'd completely understand it if there wasn't a/c in this store...but there is. I love this place and try to only patronize independent coffee shops vs. Starbucks. But the constant early closures at this store is driving away paying customers - straight into the arms of your competitors. read more

So this is probably the best coffee option in Bothell, if you arent willing to drive farther.Its a comfy environment w/ wifi and cushy seats. With that said, the most important factor, the coffee is really just ...meh.. Snacks and service tend to follow suit. Actually all these aspects seem to be getting worse the longer this place is in existence. We usually hit this place after lunching in downtown Bothell. Its pretty consistently understaffed during this time of day. Often one person is struggling to work the drive thru, the bar, and the register. Not suprisingly, this often results in a with a less than satisfactory cup of coffee. After a couple of scorched soymilk lattes I have resigned myself to drip coffee or cocoa as the lesser evil of my options. They have some really yummy looking cupcakes and coffee cake. But last time I got a cupcake to go, it was horribly stale. This was pretty dang disapointing when I dug into it back at the office and has successfully put me off the baked goods. Like I said, the place seems to be suffering overtime. I was pretty excited when Lladro opened this location, given the Starbucks saturated coffee landscape around here. When it first opened I probably would have given it a 4 star rating, but at this rate this place is going to be like every other drive thru coffee shack on the Eastside in a couple more years. read more
