It's a solid Italian spot near lake placid. A small location so without reservations you're either going to wait or be asked to not stay longer than an hour. It wasn't an ideal situation but it was our fault for not having an advance reservation since we just got into town when we stopped by. Pricing seemed higher than what we're accustomed to coming from nyc and Long Island but the food was good and portions were large. It's a very rustic feel inside with dim lighting.

During a weekend stay in lake placid a local bartender recommended Caffe Rustica for dinner. It's tucked away in the corner of a grocery store parking lot. Very unassuming. Walking in you'll find that it's a very intimate setting with fewer than 15 tables split between the bar and the main dining area. We had reservations for 6:30 and were given a choice of dining in the bar or the main dining room. We opted for the dining which had just a few diners but quickly filled up. Our waiter was friendly and very attentive. We were served a basket of warm bread that was delicious and our drinks were delivered quickly. As we saw waiters chatting with various tables it was easy to tell that several of the diners were locals or regulars. We ordered a salmon and risotto and a shrimp and risotto entree. The portion size was perfect and both dishes were beautifully presented. The risotto was wonderful! In my experience I've found that not many restaurants do a great job with preparing and serving risotto. That was not the case here! It was perfect. The food, the service and the ambience were very enjoyable. We will definitely make a repeat visit next time we're in the area

Wonderful food and experience. Joe waited on us and his cocktail and food recommendations all hit the mark. I'm a bourbon guy and Joe recommended the Chef's Kiss. It was delicious. We split a Caesar Salad - with anchovies, of course. Followed it with the Sweet Thai Chili Scrimp on Linguini. Dynamite. The shrimp were tasty and the blend of Thai and Italian was bang on. My wife had the Tuscan Risotto which was excellent with plentiful shrimp and scallops. Truly appreciate the Caffe accommodating us. Great service and ambience overall!

Not an Italian background so the menu wasn't clear to me and the waiter was limited help. No "traditional Italian options not even lasagna. Salmon was good but only 7 green beans. Could have spared 6 more. Service was mediocre and they weren't busy. I won't be back.

Just OK. We are staying nearby and got takeout. They are pretty pricey for the quality. 2 pizzas at $19 each and they're about 12" and the cavatelli bolognese was $33!! No prices online which should have been a giveaway. The pizza was good, nothing special. The cavatelli was a good sized portion but the pasta didn't taste homemade to me. Definitely more money than we expected for just OK food.

I have a bit of a story about Generations. Seven years ago,…read moremy family stopped in while visiting Lake Placid and, unfortunately, it was a pretty rough experience. After waiting over an hour for our food with no updates in sight, we finally left hungry and declared we'd never return. (We've all made dramatic vacation proclamations before!) When we got home, I wrote to the restaurant, and Natasha, the manager, personally responded with a sincere apology. She explained they had been incredibly short-staffed and invited us to come back if we were ever in Lake Placid again, promising a better experience. Well, seven years later, my sons found themselves in Lake Placid with friends and decided to give Generations another chance. They asked if Natasha was still there, and amazingly, she was! Not only that, but she remembered my email from all those years ago. This time, everything was wonderful. Great food, attentive service, a relaxing outdoor table, and happy young men!--which is review enough! To top it all off, when they asked for the check, they were told the meal was on the house. Natasha's kindness, grace, and commitment to making things right left a lasting impression. Thank you for turning a not-so-great memory into a great one. Cheers to Natasha and the team at Generations!

Was surprised when the salad came out and it was in its own dish not on the side of the plate. There was a charge of $3 dollars for the salad on the bill I questioned the server and he said there is a fee for substitutions it is stated in the menu. My menu was closed when I placed the order. I didn't ask he told me he can substitute. When he told me he can substitute he should have mentioned that there was a fee.

We'd have Mr. Mike's pizza this past weekend in the first week of May 2026. I had a couple of pizzas delivered to my room at the Hilton used to be the Hilton high peaks resort now at a plain cheese pizza with extra cheese. It was love all over again very good. Tasty cheese about a 2 1/2 foot stretch on that stuff. It came hot. The other pizza was for my guest pepperoni, onions and peppers. She loved it. Of course I had a few slices myself and they were excellent. The delivery was fast so there's my service announcement. The ambience I haven't been in the building since back in the 70s, so I couldn't tell you but there's pictures and it looks OK. I'm sure it's as good if not better.

The biggest frustration was the pricing: we were heavily nickeled and dimed for drinks, with every single soft drink refill costing an absurd $4. No notation of that on the menu or mentioned by the waitress. When the food finally arrived, it failed to deliver. The Bolognese was essentially just a bowl of plain sauce with no real substance, and the Chicken Parmesan was overwhelmingly just a plate of pasta with a small piece of chicken breast. (I've made better at home) For a $24 chicken parm you'd think you'd get a side salad and some bread as well. Nope. Just the dish itself that left a lot to be desired. Upon walking in we wondered why the place was so empty, but figured it was because it was off the beaten path. No, the locals must know it leaves something to be desired. With the misplaced order and overpriced drinks, not to mention the additional $3.14 credit card charge. Adding up the bill after it was swiped didn't make sense and when we received our credit card slip the itemized receipt was gone. A $100 for a meal that should have cost a little bit more than half that. I cannot recommend this place

We spent the week in Lake Placid for Spring Break, and we could not have been more happy to find this place, especially since we had our dog with us. Lisa G's feels like the kind of place you wish you had back home. We sat out on the porch with a perfect view of the water and our golden retriever happily at our feet. That alone would have been enough, but the food made sure we stayed awhile. We started with the wings. These are true buffalo wings. Not breaded, just well sauced and done right. We also ordered the cheese treat and it completely stole the show. Feta, spices, and jalapenos over fresh arugula, scooped onto toasted bread. It is one of those dishes where you keep saying just one more bite until suddenly it is gone. For dinner we tried the shrimp tacos, which have quite a reputation. As Texas people we were a little unsure about the pineapple salsa, but it works. Bright and just sweet enough. The slaw is mellow and tangy and ties everything together in a way that feels thoughtful rather than trendy. The fish and fries surprised us the most. Easily the best fish and chips we have had in years. Real haddock with a light crisp fry and a rich house made tartar sauce that does not play second fiddle. Chance said he usually only likes fish and chips for the fried part, but here he actually liked the fish itself. That tells you everything. The fries are the kind you keep reaching for long after you are full. Our teen ordered the burger and it disappeared before we could negotiate a bite. Former picky eaters do not lie. We tried the Julian cocktail, which drinks like a confident mai tai. The riesling missed the mark a bit. Next time we would go for the sauvignon blanc or the house white. The service felt like the best version of small town hospitality. Warm, easy, and full of good local recommendations. Our pup loved it. We loved it. We will be back. --Chance and Becky All Ahead Slow
