I have a bit of a story about Generations. Seven years ago, my family stopped in while visiting Lake Placid and, unfortunately, it was a pretty rough experience. After waiting over an hour for our food with no updates in sight, we finally left hungry and declared we'd never return. (We've all made dramatic vacation proclamations before!) When we got home, I wrote to the restaurant, and Natasha, the manager, personally responded with a sincere apology. She explained they had been incredibly short-staffed and invited us to come back if we were ever in Lake Placid again, promising a better experience. Well, seven years later, my sons found themselves in Lake Placid with friends and decided to give Generations another chance. They asked if Natasha was still there, and amazingly, she was! Not only that, but she remembered my email from all those years ago. This time, everything was wonderful. Great food, attentive service, a relaxing outdoor table, and happy young men!--which is review enough! To top it all off, when they asked for the check, they were told the meal was on the house. Location is great, and local beer was good. The food was okay; nothing stood out as being great. Additionally, was disappointed by the attempts to pay giraffe to Buffalo and the Bills. The beef on weck was more of a French dip sandwich (cheese on a beef/weck??). The buffalo chicken dip had bacon, which overpowered the dish, unnecessarily. Service was slow. Or appetizers came out after everyone finished their meal... If you're from Buffalo, hoping to have a taste of home, I'd avoid any buffalo dish here, unfortunately. read more

Just got to town for a conference, wanted to try BBQ at the Pickled Pig, but they were closed, even though the site said they were open, so I came here instead. This place is just OK, it's sort of touristy with the basic menu, but pretty dining room. I asked the server if they had good, fresh iced tea, he said yes and then brought me a bottle of ice tea, not at all what I requested. Next up was to try a cup of their onion soup. The soup came out looking beautiful, the flavor was very nice, the temperature was moderate, I would have expected it to be server hotter, since it's soup. Then I ordered their Ruben. About 10 minutes later the server came back advising the chef said he didn't have anymore of the meat for it, so they offered to make it with turkey instead and since I love a Rachel (the turkey version of a Ruben) even more, I went for it. It came out looking pretty good and tasted quite nice. The fries were warm; again, not hot, but they had a decent flavor. Overall, I can see why the reviews are mediocre at best here. read more

Wednesday night, we got in around 6 and it wasn't very busy yet. The hostess seated us right away with menus and not too long after our server came asking about drinks. We all just had water and it's so nice when they bring a pitcher too. We ordered 2 hamburgers,one was the Wolfjaw the other a basic cheeseburger. Both were cooked perfectly medium rare and the fries were hot and fresh. My husband ordered the Trout BLT. He didn't know what to expect and said it was very good. I ordered the small cheese Pizza. I enjoyed the sauce, I would have preferred a little more( just personal preference) there was a good amount of cheese, but the crust was awful, thin and like cardboard. I'll know better for next time. There are tables outside, but we chose to eat indoors because it was a little cooler. Everything looked nice and clean and it will definitely be on our list when we visit again. read more

Or visiting Tupper Lake, my wife and I decided to drive into Lake Placid. Using Yelp as our guide, we decided on an Italian spot, but unfortunately, they were not open for lunch. As we walked down the street, looking at establishments and Yelp, we settled on generations! We were seated outside. The gentleman who seated us asked us if we would like water and cocktails as our waitress was a little busy with a larger table. I ordered a Manhattan of all my wife ordered one of their fruit cocktail-ish type beverages. Unfortunately I do not have the name for it. Our drinks were delivered. My Manhattan up/chilled was served in a rock glass instead of a coupe or martini glass. After that, I stuck with beer. For a starter we ordered their 716 dip, which is just another name for extremely delicious buffalo chicken dip! Probably the highlight of our meal! My wife ordered their quesadilla for her main course while I ordered the German onion soup and half Caesar salad, adding bacon to it. The German onion soup was very delicious, chalk, full of onions and a rich beefy flavor! My wife was not thrilled with her quesadilla. They were trying to do some new fashioned flavors that did not do well with her. My Caesar salad, adding bacon was very good! We did not get a dessert. Had a great dinner with them the other night. Menu a bit limited due to seasonal turnover but both my wife and I had the Wolfjaw Burger which was excellent. The fries were really great, not sure how they do them but classic crispy outside and soft inside. My wife also had the French onion soup for just a $2 upgrade with the meal and she loved it. Vince was our server and was amazing. Very attentive to us, apologetic over the limited menu he had no control over. We are here for a few more nights so likely will check them out when the new menu is up. read more

Probably one of the worse meals I've had recently. As you can see most of the reviews left in the past month have been one star. This place has really gone downhill - the servers, the quality of food and customer service. Go anywhere else in LP; don't come here. The lettuce was soggy. I had two thin slices of avocado that were brown. And my drink was very watery. I've been here before but this place has definitely gone downhill. If you want a good lunch, I recommend hitting up another restaurant on the main strip. I won't be back. In response to the manager - That is a lie. I didn't finish my drink or my food. I did inform her of the lack of freshness, quality and level of disappointment, as I have frequented this establishment. I will not be back. When I walked out, half of my drink was left, as well as more than half of my salad. Work on your quality. In response to the owner - I did actually have an issue with the drink and the food; I spoke with the server regarding this. It was not rectified, which is why I called and emailed after my visit. I did not receive a response. The avocado the server brought out was brown and hard. My drink was never remade and continued to be watery. If you saw this, you would've also noticed the brown lettuce and watery drink. read more

Excellent place to have lunch! They had a lemon calimari aritichoke app that was amazing. i also had the French onion soup and my lunch partners had wings and beef on a weck sandwich. The place was very empty at 9am and still waited to get sat for almost 10 minutes. Got my table and was poured water and was asked if I wanted any other beverage. Took me off guard as by the lack of introduction or interaction I didn't realize this was the server. I thought it might be a food runner. When he came back with coffee he asked if I needed more time. I said no and ordered Adirondak eggs. It took a very long time to come out. When it did the plate was messy with sauce dripping off the edge so I whipped that off. Then when I went to cracked open the poached eggs (the first thing I always do) they were fully cooked. I pushed my plate to the edge of the table without taking one bite and turned in my chair and just kept looking at the server. The server took a table of 5/6 people's orders and then disappeared. I waited and waited and he never came back out. I finally had to get up and go to the front to find someone after over 30 minutes there. I went to the front desk and no one was there and the. Went and stood at the service station for a couple minutes before I got someone's attention. I explained the situation. They offered a new meal and that the server was new and training (being on your own left to make major mistakes is not training). My food most likely sat in the window and overcooked because he can't time manage, he never checked back on me, no one on the floor observing to ensure poor service is not happening. At this point they were even busier and I had no faith they could get me food out in a timely manner, cooked right and not rushed. I told them if you're charging $20 for 2 poached eggs they better be right. They agreed but I didn't feel like they truly cared. It was the "I'm not going to chase you down to stay" comment that did it. I was shaking from low blood sugar and 2 coffees and just wanted the food that I came there specifically for after looking at the menu on line. Such a shame. Great views of the lake and mountains but food and service unacceptable for what they are charging. I can't recommend. read more

But the side of french fries were cold and tasted as if they had been sitting out for a long time. Bartender at the Boat Tasting Room recommended Generations. We waited about 15 minutes for our table which was fine on a busy Saturday evening. Ordered boneless wings with spicy peach sauce and got a huge amount of them! Split a pizza - The Boathouse - which was good. I ordered a half salad but never got my dressing. This is a cute place if you're looking for a chill place to rest and enjoy a meal. Service was excellent and the pretzel was delicious. I also ordered some Italian wedding soup which was not bad. The shepard's pie was a bit too salty and oily for my liking and ended up making me sick but overall this was a nice restaurant to relax and people watch. The exterior is very cute and if you get seated outdoors, they have heaters underneath the roof to keep you warm. read more

After a long morning of driving and visiting Little Whiteface Mountain, I was looking for a family friendly restaurant for a late lunch for my family. I've been to Lake Placid pre-children so only tried a couple restaurants before. We decided to stop in at Generations on the strip of Main Street. We were greeted by the friendly host and sat down without any wait time. We sat in booth which was spacious for the kids. We didn't wait long for our waiter. The waiter gave us great suggestions on menu items since it was our first time. I opted for appetizer instead of entree for myself. My husband order appetizers and entree and the kids order off the kids menu. I started off with a strawberry and mango margarita. It was definitely worth the money lol strong and flavor forward. We ordered three appetizers Taproom Calamari, Buds & Spuds and Maple Chipotle Wings. We loved the calamari, perfectly battered and crispy and not rubbery. I like that the tentacles were included as well, the chipotle aioli was a good accompaniment. I picked out the Buds & Spuds since it sounded interesting. It was deep fried Brussels sprouts, ricotta & potato gnocchi, tossed in truffle oil, bacon bits, parmesan & house rub. Finished with roasted garlic aioli. I'm a sucker for fried Brussels sprouts. This appetizer was delicious but definitely over indulgent lol. The sprouts were huge, I had to cut them. The gnocchi were pillowy and well seasoned. My husband picked the Maple Chipotle Wings. We loved them as well, they were crispy and the flavor of the maple chipotle was so good. You can order bone in, boneless or cauliflower wings and choose from their handful of sauce/rubs. For an entree the waiter suggested the Thunderbird for my husband. It was buttermilk marinated chicken breast, deep-fried and tossed in our honey garlic sriracha sauce, topped with coleslaw & thin sliced pickles. My husband enjoyed it, he said it was still crispy even with the sauce covering it. The flavors were great. The kids had the cheese pizza and chicken tenders and fries from the kids menu. They didn't care for the pizza I guess it's not what they're use it. It had fresh mozzarella. But both enjoyed the tenders and fries. Overall my family said they would definitely come back here. I think next time we'll try their breakfast options as well. The restaurant is part of the Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort. It's not where we stayed but the entrance way to the restaurant is on Main Street. read more

Stopped for lunch on a Wednesday around 2pm. We were greeted by friendly staff and were seated on the deck right away. We ordered the beef on wick and poutine. Both were very tasty. The poutine looked great and cheese curds were golden brown on top. We thought the amount of pork belly was a bit light and mentioned it to the staff. My husband and I went on vacation for a quick weekend get away to the Adirondacks! After a long day of hiking we went into town to recharge and refuel and stumbled upon this gem of a Buffalo themed backer bar! Of course being from Buffalo we had to dine here!! We walked in on a busy Friday night and were seated outside on the patio immediately! The patio overlooked the Adirondack high peaks and beautiful lakes! While it was mostly dark out you could still see the outline of the mountains and see the light off the lake which made it feel all more romantic! We ordered a beer and hard cider to celebrate a hard day of hiking and amazing trip and placed our orders! I ordered a chicken wrap that had avocado, bacon, lettuce, and tomato on it drenched in chipotle aioli which was to die for paired with the most tender and marinated chicken I've had in a wrap in a long time! On top of this it was wrapped in a garlic wrap which just added to the dish and added great flavor! It was topped with a bunch of fries that really hit the spot! My husband ordered a burger which was stacked high with all the fixings! The food was tasty and the service was impressive for a busy Friday night! I definitely enjoyed the night and recommended this place to anyone looking for a great place with even better food! I definitely will visit generations again when back in town! read more

Best breakfast in town after a long weekend of hiking! Service was good and there's outdoor seating which is a nice option. The Belgian waffle was delicious. I didn't get a photo but my husband got a giant pretzel filled with eggs, home fries and bacon. Definitely a good place to re-fuel after some time in the mountains read more

Wolf jaw burger ($16) with a Franzskaner Draft ($6). My burger was good. Flavorful, moist, grilled to my liking, but needed just a little something else to bring out those flavors more. The fries used to be Awesome, but not tonight.... Bring back the fries I have 10 months ago.... Customer service was great tonight, Austin was Attentive, courteous and attentive to the details. As soon as we walked in we were welcomed by a rude hostess. She told us to wait in the waiting room until our table was ready. A few minutes go by and we noticed that other families who came in after us were being sat down before us. We then reminded the hostess that we were still here and she began to blame us for not doing her job which was to put our name into the book. We then told her we will just go somewhere else and she proceeded to heckle us out the door yelling, "Fine leave I don't care." It was humiliating having her yell at us as we walked out. We had a couple of drinks (wine and beer) and the service was good. There was a football game on so a lot of people were at the bar. We sat by the window which was nice. Nice stop while visiting lake placid! We walked in around 7 pm on a Thursday evening. We just walked from our hotel because parking in kind of limited downtown. We had to wait about 25-30 minutes for a table of 3 but we were able to sit in the window area and get a drink. We were seated in the back area which had a beautiful view of the mountains and the lake. It was a great location and view. Our waiter was friendly and made suggestions on food. We got an appetizer that was unique of gnocchi and brussel sprouts. The garlic aioli on it made the dish very tasty. I then ordered the chicken salad sandwich which was tasty. It was curry flavored. The bread naan was not the best naan I have ever had but the curry chicken was good. It came with a side of fries for about ~$15. Overall, we had a very enjoyable experience here with the views and food. read more

This was a very good local restaurant. The boathouse flatbread pizza was one of the best I have had anywhere. My aunt said the Salmon meal she had was very well cooked as well as the chicken my uncle had. We very much enjoyed the great attentive but not overly service. Also did not rush us out and allowed us to leave at our pace even after closing. Would recommend if looking for a place in Lake Placid. read more
