I was so looking forward to returning to the Cascade Inn because our first time a few years ago was such a pleasant surprise. It hasn't lost its charm and the food was delicious. Cheddar jalapeño soup...come on! Pair it with a salad and the fantastic Delmonico steak and baked potato and I was in heaven. Cooked perfectly and just melts in your mouth. My fellow diners had the baked trout and a chicken dish and were very pleased. Our server Nicole was great...fun, efficient and very attentive. One suggestion...stock the bar with some Cognac! Even though there were plenty of free tables in the main room, the host placed my family of three (2 adults and 1 quiet child) in the cold exterior room. We were the only table to be seated there the whole evening and they refused to move us even though we requested a few times. It was very strange. This has a motel behind the restaurant and is so outdated and creepy as soon as we walked in the vibes felt off something had to had happen there somebody had died or witchcraft or missing people it's just so off the vibes. the beds are very low to the ground and my sister went to go take a shower and i went to sit on the black crunch my feet got cold air and i started hearing noises and i cried and starting praying and it stoped when she got out she said at 3:30 she woke up and heard something or somebody tapping on the window for a while she went back to sleep i would not recommend coming here it is very creepy and scary but the owner is very nice and so is the employs would not recommend. read more

We stayed With Colleen and family at the motel, the rooms are adequate, clean and all the amenities necessary. We ate at the restaurant and OMG, the food is fabulous, the service wonderful and the portions ample, we split one of the steak dinners. The steak fries are to write home about, so delish. Dinner was hot rolls, soup AND salad and entree. Dessert menu offered many great choices. From the welcoming Kramer portrait on the wall, to the friendly face of the bartender, this place has been a family favorite on our annual Lake Placid Adventure. Erica is a treat and we love seeing her smiling face every time we visit. She is attentive and sprite and caters to your every need. This is a great locals restaurant. There is no better value in Lake Placid. The Veal Shnitzel, chicken parm, veal parm, and anything else in a red sauce or cream sauce are all excellent. Cozy atmosphere, definitely a diner feel but in a good way. My boyfriend and I came in on a Sunday and it was pretty quiet. I ordered the chicken Parmesan. What's nice about this meal is it comes with dinner rolls, a salad and a cup of soup. My meal itself was also huge. The sauce had great flavor, the chicken was tender and there was plenty of cheese on top BUT the chicken was burnt. The main issue was it was all I could taste and it overpowered the other great flavors. Other than that I did enjoy it. My boyfriend got the lasagna, he says it was just average and I agree. It was also a pretty small portion for the price. The service was friendly and all and all we had a good experience. I made reservations this afternoon for 8 people For dinner . We were running about 20 minutes late so I called him a bunch of times getting a busy signal and we also email them. We should up and the lady at the front said we're gonna have to wait at the table for 20 minutes before We can receive service. In some weird way she was trying to punish us. All in all 3.5 out of 5 Good food overall... nice establishment. Went here with out of town friends and we were put in a side room away from everyone and next to the wait station when there was an available table in front of the fireplace in the main dining room. This place needs some serious work. First, we could only find a couple outlets after moving the furniture around. Only one of three lamps worked and the WiFi was practically non-existent. I could forgive all of that, however, if the shower weren't like trying to bathe under a leaky faucet. The water was either freezing cold or scalding hot, and every time you made a temperature adjustment, you had to wait at least 6-7 minutes before it would take any effect. It made showering a massive pain in the neck. Also, there's no AC or mini fridge, so be prepared for that. The beds themselves, while decently sized, we're about as comfortable as sleeping on top of a dog house. If you're in the area and want to stay somewhere cheap, and have low expectations, sure, it'll do. My advice is to spring a little extra and stay literally anywhere else. read more

My family and I are just pulling out of the parking lot after the worst meal we've ever had. I ordered the "Tail & Legs" ($28.95) and my father had the "Fisherman's platter" ($29.95) and the lobster tails on both of our dishes had such a strong ammonia smell that when I took my first bite I had to spit it right back out. The lobster was WAY WAY WAY past its prime. We notified the waitress who was very apologetic and asked what she could do to make it better. We certainly didn't want any more food. We asked that the price of our meals be adjusted. The price adjustment was insulting. 6 dollars off each entree that had a rotten lobster tail. Meanwhile they have a twin lobster tail dinner that is listed as "market price." How is the main component in a 30 dollar meal worth only 6 dollars? I've never been able to purchase a lobster tail for 6 dollars anywhere! We could have sat there and fought them on it, but instead we figure we should head home and prepare for the eventual food poisoning we have in store. Our family was up in Lake Placid for a Thanksgiving family vacation and we stumbled upon this gem. Very cozy atmosphere. We were seated in the room with the fireplace. Food was amazing, staff was extremely friendly, our server, Stephanie, got every aspect of our order correct and was very pleasant. I went there on Saturday night for their prime rib special with two friends they were over whelmed and even though I had a reservation we finally got seated we all the three of us ordered rare prime rib I asked the waitress as we were in a bit of a hurry if she could possibly bring our prime rib with our salad I am not making up what happen next she said I will check with the chef and see if your steaks are ready I said no we all ordered prime rib rare she laughed and said oh I'm a vegetarian I don't know the difference that is exactly what she said the prime rib came it looked very nice it was rare and when I cut into mine it was cold so I asked a waitress that standing nearby not our waitress I said could you get me someone who's in charge here and she said I am and I said well my prime rib is cold as was the prime rib of the other two people with me she said well in a very nasty voice you ordered it rare and that's how it comes so I've eaten rare prime rib all over the country and I've never had a cold so if you go in there be prepared for not very pleasant service and if you'd like your prime rib rare be prepared that it'll be cold A-Place to avoid if you like a pleasant dining experience . read more

Although the food was passable the motel room was horrific. No effort is made to clean the rooms, I killed three spiders before bedtime leaving two in the bathroom for morning. Rooms are dark and each room has a bright light outside to door to ensure insects are called to the room so you have to be quick with the door. This is only a small step up from a tent. We ended up here for NYE dinner because we couldn't get a reservation at other restaurants and wanted to escape the crowds. I had the haddock special. The fish was overcooked and not good. They did bring homemade chicken soup and bread before the meal. That was good. The kids had plain ravioli, and you can't really go wrong with that. The wine list was a good value. The Cascade Inn Restaurant is fantastic! It's about 5 miles outside of "downtown" Lake Placid and the outside looks a bit deceiving (it looks more like a motor inn...which it also is...than a fine restaurant). But once you enter it's all uphill from there. It's actual quite large and has a very nice, dark" ambience. From the moment we sat down we were warmly greeted by a humble waitress who we were able to hold friendly conversations with throughout our entire dinner. She was incredibly nice and professional (and knew the menu inside and out). But most importantly the food was TERRIFIC (I had the Delmonico Steak, which was great) and their prices are significantly better than the vast majority of the downtown restaurants. E.g,, our Calamari appetizer (which was very good) was only $6.95, vs. $10+ at the five other downtown places we had eaten at previously. As a bonus all main course dinners come with soup, salad, and endless rolls. The soup our night was an incredibly tasty tomato basil soup. I highly recommend this gem and we will be repeat visitors! read more

This was by far the worst meal we have ever had. The food was served on stone cold plates and by the time it was served it was cold. The hot tea I ordered came in a stone cold mug. The "Special" was frozen scallops with coating falling off. The ravioli was frozen with a big mound of mozzerella cheese partially melted on top. The only good thing was the cold salad and warm rolls and the wait staff was pleasant. The cooks were yelling in the kitchen and the waitress was apologizing for that.
