This is a cute spot my friend and I decided to try when we were in the area! We needed a lunch spot and they had availability mid afternoon. I got their Caesar salad and really liked it. The dressing was mixed really well and there was tons of fresh parm on top. My friend got their mushroom flatbread and enjoyed it as well. Overall it was a nice spot for a quick lunch and it seems like a good spot for drinks as well. Service was great and we were attended to often. read more

The staff was lovely, and the interior was eclectic and beautiful, you felt like you were in a European Café! The food was so good, and their specials menu was very affordable! We're staying at the Standard Hotel Downtown, the cafe is attached to the hotel. Me the weather is perfect to be sitting outside and we chose a table on the covered porch area. Albert was our server, he is very friendly, accommodating and helpful. A shout out to him. The setting is really wonderful, sitting under cover but feeling connected to the City outside. The problem is the food. It frankly was disappointing. My pancakes were soggy and truly unsatisfying. The coffee was mediocre. My wife ordered her usual, avocado toast, and even this offering missed the mark. The convenience of eating g here while staying at The Standard is why we decided to try the Cafe. Unfortunately, we won't be back. There are much better choices within less than a 5 minute walk. read more

Food here was alright but nothing truly special especially for the price. We came here for dinner. Biggest surprise was the menu we received was about half of what's listed on the website which was a bummer (ex: Mushroom Terrene wasn't available for us to order) but this could be chalked up to the fact it was Thanksgiving day. Items we ordered as of 11/2023: - Gnocchi - Cooked well but the portion size was pretty small especially for the price we paid (it's not listed on the online menu but we think it was over $20). - Café Burger - $26 - Pricey burger but came with a lot of fries. Wasn't a huge fan of the peppercorn aioli unfortunately (reminded me of a thick aus ju). I'd recommend asking them to hold off on the sauce or have it on the side). - Classic Caesar - $18 - This was good. Well dressed and good size. Didn't really taste the anchovy in the croutons though. - Sorbet - $8 - Mango sorbet was good as was the strawberry (really can taste the fruit). Good palate cleanser! - House cookies - $8 - Disappointing as it was 3 small cookies and they were on the harder side. Didn't seem to be freshly made (to me anyways). Overall it was okay. We went here because they advertised an Xmas Eve Feast of the Seven Fishes and it was anything but. There were 7 choices but you only got to a (like one per person) crouton with some crab dip, a tiny app and a tiny entree. My daughter's scallop appetizer was one sea scallop sliced into 5 slivers and my oyster app was two of the smallest oysters I've ever seen. I ordered the Bronzini which was about 3 ounces and completely dry. I sent it back (I think the first time I've ever sent something back in my life) and got the linguini clam drenched in lemon juice which sucked but was at least edible. Then they tried to charge for 3 complete meals. The server was nice but the service was terrible. He poured the first glass of wine, we poured the rest. *This review is for the Garden Cafe at The Standard Honestly, the term mediocre at best is an overstatement for this overpriced, under-seasoned food. I begrudgingly came here because a bougie friend loves the "cool" scenester places. I do not love such places, will deal occasionally but have an expectation of a decent meal when I go. Too much to ask? I assumed the food would taste good considering a chicken club was $24 - welp, you know what they say about assuming!! Chicken tasted as if it had been frozen, nuked in the microwave to defrost, then thrown on the grill without as much as a sprinkle of salt or pepper. The bread tasted stale and had an overwhelming amount of mayo. Came with either a salad or fries - I chose salad. I enjoyed that the most, but it was nothing to write home about. Oversized pieced of lettuce tossed in vinagrette. Another friend had the caesar salad with chicken. She said the chicken was okay but the salad had way too much dressing and a very strong anchovy taste. To drink I had a mimosa - it was fine, but at $14 for some OJ and cheap bubbly it damn well better taste okay. I hope and pray that I never find myself back at this place. There are far better places to see and be seen. There are far better places to get grossly overpriced food and cocktails - and many provide, at the least, a tasty meal. Service: MEH! We weren't ready to order when the server first came by. She came back a few minutes later to take our drink order. Drinks were delivered but our food order wasn't taken. Waited at least 20-minutes then flagged her down to order brunch. TL:DR - food is overpriced and underwhelming. Drinks are fine but pricey. Visited the Cafe Standard for multiple nights because I was in town for a week long business trip. Honestly the service here leaves much to be desired. In the first day I went I attempted to order a sandwich with a waitress and the sandwich never came when I went to check on my order another waiter told me brunch was over and she didn't offer to get me another menu or assist me in placing a new order. After ordering, I also had to go inside and ask for my check be use the wait staff didn't come back to check on us. While visiting I tried the chicken sliders, burger, and the Marigold cocktail. The food was good and better than their service.! This is just one example but the staff here always seemed bothered that myself and my coworkers were here. read more

It was busy when we arrived at noon for Thanksgiving. It took a while for the staff to figure out if there were any Thanksgiving specials. They actually never figured it out, so we could not order it. The chicken liver appetizer was beautifully decorated, but tasted musty. The toast sticks were very oily. The burger was good except there was way too many raw onions. It gave my husband heart burn, which he has never really gotten before. Salad pieces were too big, barely cut. It was hard to use a knife in the bowl it came in. It took 20 mins to order. Our food came in 30 mins. After 45 mins of eating did anyone come check on us. By that time there was only one other table and no one at the bar, so they were not busy at all. I had to walk up to the bar and get my own napkins. The staff was just talking by the bar. No one came to ask us if we needed any more water until we wanted the check. The ambiance was great. Food: 3 star. Service: 2 star. Ambiance: 4 star. Not sure how the hotel basement WC is accessible for handicap patrons. read more

Visited this place last weekend and unfortunately wasn't blown away. The reason why I'm giving 3 stars is because of the cool outdoor seating and atmosphere. It's peaceful in the middle of a busy area. Otherwise, I would have given 2 stars. Drinks were overpriced for what they are, chicken poppers fried breading fell off of each piece of chicken, boo. Our server was actually quite unpleasant. When we said we might order more than 1 drink and an appetizer she seemed frustrated. I'm sorry but having worked in the restaurant business, I never turned a table away, nor their money. If they wanted something, they got it. Nope, not here. We finished our cocktail and appetizer and went our way. The server made us feel rushed and unwelcome as soon as we sat down. Funny enough when we left there were at least 4 tables still sitting outside. Guess you coulda made more money honey, but it's okay because you didn't want it so we took our money elsewhere. Came to Cafe Standard hoping to catch a sports game, but they didn't have any TVs. We ended up staying a bit to grab some drinks, which definitely did not disappoint! We sat in the outdoor covered patio area, which was ideal because we got the sunlight but the greenery provided shade as well. We got a pitcher of the "Through the Garden," which was the vodka blackberry drink, and it was great! It ended up being a large pitcher, and the drinks were pretty strong--overall great value for your money. Most importantly, it tasted amazing. Highly recommend. The only downside was that their website mentioned a happy hour, but when we got there, we were informed that they no longer did the happy hour deals (the website wasn't updated). Still pretty satisfied with value for money, however. read more

This was a nice little spot to have coffee and breakfast. Their prices are decent for NYC- I paid $14 for a standard breakfast plate that came with two eggs, two pieces of bacon, potatoes, and two pieces of toast. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the toast was really good, I can't remember what type of bread it was but it was the recommendation of the waitress and I was happy with it. Coffee was hot and kept coming. The cafe is attached to a hotel, the bar inside is very cool and the stairs that lead down to the restroom space is fun and interesting. Had a great time getting impromptu drinks here this past weekend! I was visiting a friend in the area who is a literal 20sec walk from this place and we were intrigued by the greenery and cute scene. We stopped in around 8pm for drinks and immediately ordered the Booch Hooch, a delicious cocktail with kombucha in it! Super basic, but we love our kombuchas! The drinks were delicious and we were seated in the outdoor patio area which was a really cute space (and perfectly heated!) it was a great place to really dive into conversation as the medium sized crowd dissipated after an hr or so. We then both ordered espresso martinis as we were in the mood to wake up a little bit. These didn't disappoint either and we continued to strike the best conversation! Overall, the ambience, service, and drinks were phenomenal. I took away one star because I ended up seeing my first mouse- in this establishment! Obviously we were half outside due to the patio space and I guess it was slightly better that it was a mouse? A rat would send me running, but it was still a little disconcerting! read more

They require a $100 min spend per person but the menu is a total of 6 items, and if you have dietary restrictions (as some in our group did) that narrows the list to 3 options. We went there tonight for dinner. Service was very very slow. When asking to change a plate to 5 minutes to get a clean new plate while food was getting cold. What was worse is that they gave us bad food. WE asked the manager to taste the food and he said he did - no way. The chicken was was overcooked and the halibut sauce was just bad. Whats worse the manager couldnt recognize that the food was bad. Really downhill- stay away! Would have given a one star but they did give us free tequila shots.. read more

Came here with a group of friends on a Saturday night around 9. There was no one at the front to greet us so we assumed seating was a free for all. The only open table was in a corner so we seated ourselves there. A server came immediately to drop off some menus and bring us water. It took another 30 minutes to flag someone down to take our order. It was impossible to get someone to come by for refills throughout the time that we were there. When we decided it was time to grab the check, it took yet another 30 minutes to get someones attention. There were waiters serving tables adjacent to ours, made eye contact with us and noted that they would be over after they were done, then never showed up. Or some servers would pretend they didn't even see us. Before we got our check, someone came over and took my wine that I was still drinking?? Beautiful spot. It's got a classy but relaxed vibe. It was nice to grab a drink here and sit outside if you're in the area. Pretty pricey here but that's their style, & we had a nice time. We got a couple stellas, burrata, and a sour cream blueberry topped cheesecake to share. The cheesecake was super tiny but good. The burrata was good as well.. The toasted bread that came with it was absolutely delicious! At one point I went inside the cafe to use the bathroom and must say the entire place, inside and out, was pretty enchanting and beautifully designed. There was a small confusion at the end, an extra drink from a different table was added to our bill, thankfully at the last moment we noticed it and told the waiter to update our bill. It's time to update my review. I still stand by this. I think the best night is Friday. I like the DJ better than other nights. I was upset when the one they used to have left but the current one is growing on me also. They recently updated the food menu and it is an improvement. I did say I liked their burger and I still do. They harvest their own mushroom from a temperature and humidity controlled tank (they sell most of them on Saturday afternoon at farmer's market) but they keep some of them to use it for burger sauce and it's probably the best burger I've had there so far. I'm sure it's a limited item (they change burger recipe often) so you should try it soon if you're a burger person. Speaking of mushroom, they now have a mushroom infused drink called Umami-Mami (they use their own mushroom there also). It's on the strong side so be forewarned. Espresso Martini is still going strong along with many other varieties. They also brew their own beer, I'm not a beer person and I like it. Still most people you'd see are locals. Looks like most people complaning here sat at the table, I mostly sit at the bar area and I never had an issue with service. All bartenders are wonderful. read more
