While searching for dinner options before my cross-country flight, I kept seeing Cafe Versailles locations throughout the MIA airport. Among the fast food chains, Cafe Versailles stood out because it offered Cubano sandwiches in addition to various types of Cuban pastries and Cuban-style coffee. Since I always try to get a Cubano sandwich while visiting Miami, I figured this was my last chance and ordered one at Cafe Versailles next to my gate. My sandwich was toasted to order and served warm, but I noticed that the cheese hadn't fully melted, and the meat wasn't completely heated through. On a positive note, there was a generous portion of both meat and cheese stuffed inside the sandwich, and the bread was perfectly toasted. My impression this time was a little more underwhelming. I got a Cubano sandwich and my favorite part was the bread. I think it still needed to be a little bit crispier on the outside, but it was still good. I ended up taking off the pork; it was just dry and chewy. The ham, cheese, pickles, and mustard were a nice combination. The guava and cheese pastelito was okay too; nothing spectacular. I'd love it to be a little fuller and fresher. You can't do Miami without Cafe Versailles. The staff is friendly and efficient and happy to tolerate my poor Spanish. The chocolate croissant was buttery and flavor and chocolatey and exactly what I needed with my Cafe con Leche which is the best version of a latte you bc a get for you uninitiated visitor types. Certainly a must try at the airport but it's an airport joint so it doesn't reach 4 star potential. The service is adequate, the seating is there, nothing special. I did like the coffee very much and although it was edible the egg with ham sandwich left lots to be desired. There were traces of ham hardly noticeable and undetectable to the pallet. I had a pastry as well that was lack luster. Overcooked and under filled. I think it may have been a bit pricy as well but I normally expect that at airports. I did catch the traditional Miami vibe by the way the stand is decorated. Overall you can't expect a gourmet experience and I wouldn't go out of my way to try them again. It's always a great choice for Cuban snacks! It's the express version of the original Versailles restaurant on 8th Street (Calle Ocho, Baby!). An iconic restaurant where we would stop and get pastelitos & croquetas on the way home from my abuelita's house all through my childhood. How could I not stop and get their famous pastelitos de carne before boarding our next flight? They truly are the best! There are 2 or 3 cafés in terminal D. This one is near Gate 20. The staff behind the counter are so nice & friendly. I was even offered a plastic bag to carry the paper bagged purchase. What a great lady! The meat pies are greasy, but oh so wonderful. I never can resist them. My only regret is that I didn't buy more frituras. Ha! It's a slice of heaven in this busy & overcrowded airport. We landed at 6:00 AM in MIA for a four-hour layover. Though I wasn't hungry at that time (it was 3:00 AM for me in PHX), I couldn't pass up trying Café Versailles. I love me some Cuban food and treats. Though there was a line, it moved very quickly. The staff was nice and patient. I ordered a spinach cheese empanada, a guava pastry, and a cafe con leche. Prices were very affordable. I ate the spinach cheese empanada right away and saved the pastry for later. The empanada was tasty and had a good amount of filling. We did not go to the restaurant in town but we did visit their location inside Miami International Airport. It's super expensive, but that's how it is inside airports. We have visited the actual restaurant in the past and love it. I give them 5 stars overall. We got 4 Cuban sandwiches and a few chicken empanadas. My kids devoured everything before I can get a picture....me too! The food did not disappoint. Cuban was the perfect ratio of pork, ham and Swiss cheese that is melted to perfection in a soft yet crunchy bread that is flattened like a panini. The empanadas were filled with seasoned chicken & beef, with a fried outer dough that adds flavor. The down side was that we were shorted one Cuban sandwich and when I went back to complain he asked for a receipt, which they never gave me. Croquettes, sweet pastries and empanadas aren't bad at all, but to be expected prices are a bit higher here than say Porto's in SoCal or other neighborhood bakeries that carry the same items. The lady that helped me was very pleasant and smiled a lot. The line moves fairly quickly and everything we've tried were good. Now you are not able to visit the actual flagship restaurant in Little Havana, then there are three stands located in D5, D20, and D44 (Terminal D). [What to order]: The signature Cuban sandwich, empanadas, pastelitos (ideally guava & cheese), and café con leche (Cuban version of the latte) / cortado (Cuban espresso with a shot of milk). [Service]: I tried to place an order at first, but the initial server only spoke Spanish so I had another server helped my order. [Drink]: Since I already had all of them at the flagship restaurant, I ended up getting a cup of batidos (tropical shake) with mango for $4.29. Unfortunately the drink was not as good as I thought and apparently my friend said the staff had to dilute his mango tropical shake because the shake machine broke halfway through making his shake. 3-star on my mango tropical shake, but stick with their Cuban speciality items and visitors should have much better experience. read more

This is one of the trademarks of Miami Airport, if you haven't get the "cortadito", you haven't visited MIA. The line is usually long and it takes a little time to get served but the pastries, empanadas, sandwiches, breads and pastelitos are great. My favorite to go item is the chicken empanada and if I'm craving for something sweet the guava pastry. As for coffee a cortadito (little sugar) or an american coffee!! I must say the customer service was on point. Very friendly. The ambiance is very much loud and fast-paced. Strolling through MIA airport perusing through many food options, I was smiling big when I came across Cafe Versailles. I got the Cuban Sandwich with Materva and my meal was delicious! My family opted to get Chinese food instead and when they looked how delicious my meal was they completed regretted it. In fact they threw away their meal and went and got Sandwiches from the Cafe. As I weaved my way through Concourse D I've passed up on several of the standard chain, coffee shops with the hopes of finding something better closer to my departure gate. Luckily for me, I noticed Café Versailles just a couple of gates down from mine. it's a fairly small stand, but I noticed they had a great selection of different coffees, pastries, empanadas and sandwiches so I jumped in line. There were three ladies working the line very efficiently which really helped to move quickly and they were all very attentive and nice. I had a hard time deciding which coffee to get as many of the different varieties sounded really good, but I decided to go with a 12 ounce Cappuccino to get me through my next flight. While I was at the counter, I noticed all of the different pastries and sandwiches on display and they all look delicious. I wasn't looking to get anything to eat, so I just stuck with the coffee but looking back now I wish I would've grabbed couple to save for later. When I got to the cash register, I was pleasantly surprised to see that my 12 ounce Cappuccino was only $3.50! You certainly won't find the great of a price at those other chain coffee, shops, or really anywhere in any other airport. Overall, it was a pleasant experience and my coffee was absolutely perfect! I also liked how they had a large sign board set up to the side with the history of Café Versailles so you knew exactly where they were coming from and what it was all about. It's typically quite hard to find quality food and service at airports but Cafe Versailles was spot on! I will definitely be coming back here on my next trip through Miami, and next time I'm grabbing some pastries and sandwiches too!
