I would rate no stars, I attended a wedding Sunday 17, not only was the food bad but part owner Carson was very intoxicated begging people to by him drinks as the venue did not permit drinking on premises of catering staff. I did not enjoy this meal at all. Came here with a friend to get a nice dinner. We ended up getting the calamari which was excellent. I did get the veal and peas and it was one of the most terrible dishes I've had in quite a while. There was an odd taste coming from it and I really couldn't finish it. I don't think I really touched it all that much and ended up tossing it. It was very different than the way I expected the dish to be prepared So since my friend raves about this place and he has good quality and food I might come here again to try a totally different dish but I wouldn't be in a rush to do so. Doesn't look like much on the outside. But, once you walk in you'll get it. From the mismatched dishes and the wine cork walls. It bring you back to your grandparents cooking. It is fantastic, old-school Italian cooking at its finest. I travel often and this is by far the best Italian food around! Large portions of deliciousness at a great price! Let me start by saying I ordered take out but I wanted to try it due to all the amazing reviews! All 5 stars and I think I saw like two 1 star reviews. So when I got my dinner I began cutting my chicken picatta to give to my son. I immediately was unable to cut through it and thought oh no tough chicken but it was a huge pink vein. It grossed me out immediately and rendered a good portion of it inedible. Luckily the portion size was large. The chicken piccata was actually really good though! The calamari was extremely overcooked to the point it was burnt- the whole entire order was inedible! I also paid for mashed potatoes ($7) and never received them! A bit disappointed there- but I'm not the type to call and complain so I let it go. The homemade pasta was delicious but the sauce wasn't great at all- my friend agreed. My other friend said the veal was excellent at 10/10! Overall we had a ton of misses on this evenings dinner but it definitely has potential! My chicken piccata was good and the portion size was large- the homemade macaroni was great but the sauce was off. The calamari was inedible and we couldn't eat it at all. Literally tasted like you were chewing on a shoelace. However for tonight's meal with all the problems I'm going to have to rate it at 3. I do think I would try it again- but I would like either my money back for my mashed potatoes that I paid for and never received or some type of credit to use toward my next meal. read more

I have been here a few times over the years and it never disappoints. The food is fantastic. I was there last week and ordered the veal picatta and my husband had veal parmigiana . Both were delicious, but the squash blossom appetizer was to die for! I was able to squeeze in the dessert special which was a lemon blueberry cake with icing. I was sharing with my husband but oops I ate 90% of it. Sorry, not sorry. Anyway add the great food and service to the fact that you can bring your own wine in....this place is a GEM. Great little BYOB spot but must have reservations as the place is small but worth the effort. Chicken marsala, parm, soups were all tasty and as noted by many large portions. Parking can be tricky if you come during busy times but service is great and atmosphere special. The partners are great with a family like atmosphere.:) read more

Excellent small restaurant in Johnston. Two guys own the place and they run it very well. They are welcoming and warm. The food is amazing. Our group of 6 had several entrees and we all loved the food. First of all the olive oil that comes with the bread is spicy, robust and delicious. I got the Pescatore Pasta and it was light with tender chunks of calamari, shrimp, fish and scallops. The linguini was cooked al dente and it was perfect. Not heavy at all. The chicken piccata was also very well done. It had a great light taste. The Veal and Peas is a favorite of many and the feedback was excellent. The place is small, there was a party of probably 10 people, I felt I was part of their party listening to them laughing and talking, it doesn't make for a good dining experience. Perfection! The food is top notch, everything is freshly made, the atmosphere is cozy/romantic, the service is fantastic and the menu selection is great! It's a very small restaurant, but it makes your dining experience very intimate. It is BYOB, which I think is awesome because you can drink exact what you are in the mood for! I don't even know where to start on the food, as I am writing this review my mouth is starting to salivate thinking of all the flavors!!! lol We started with an order of Calamari, it was fried to perfection and tossed with hot cherry peppers and a balsamic glaze. Absolutely delicious. For dinner I had Chicken Saltimbocca... omg YUMMMY.... It was topped with prosciutto and provolone cheese with roasted mushrooms and white wine sauce. Great little BYOB nestled in Johnston on George Waterman Road. We started we the antipasto for an appetizer which was plenty for four people. The meats were fresh as well as the salad Greens and very yummy. This evening I ordered chicken parm with homemade fresh fettuccine with the pink cream sauce. Ugh, who doesn't love a fresh homemade pasta! Some much better than the boxed kind. Cafe Vinos red sauce and pink cream sauce were absolutely delicious. They definitely know what they are doing in the gravy/sauce department. God bless the owners of this cute establishment. Prices were fairly reasonable too! This was our first time trying Cafe Vino per a recommendation from a good friend. Mama Mia! We were definitely impressed by the dishes we got. We had the chicken saltimboca which was so savory and light at the same time. The fusion of fresh chicken and perfectly cured prosciutto was a match made in heaven. Add in the homemade gnocchi in pink sauce and how could you go wrong? The pink sauce was definitely one of the best we've had. The consistency of it was perfect! Not too thick, not too runny. I moved to Rhode Island almost two years ago, found this place near my boyfriends brothers home, now my boyfriend and I go multiple times a month. Totally OUTSTANDING food and service, and its BYOB. Fresh food and ingredients purchased daily, cozy atmosphere. We usually stop here after visiting some family every so many weeks. Rhode Island and Federal Hill are full of "Italian" places that cost twice as much and don't even come close to this place or real Italian food (I lived in Italy for some time). I recently took my wife out for her birthday. We were undecided were to go and then thought that we would give Cafe Vino a visit since its new ownership. This was truly a great choice for my wife and I. The waiter was great, and the food was better than a 5 star restaurant. I met and talked with two of the owners, Carson and Adam. Adam, who's also the head chef, prepared two parmesan dishes. One was chicken and the other veal, and were probably the two best parmesan dinners we have ever had. If I would have to rate this from a 1-5 star I would have to go above and beyond and give it a 6. Can't wait to go back, this time with some friends and share my experience. Our experience at Cafe Vino the other night was nothing short of excellent. The food, the service, the atmosphere were all top notch We came here for my boyfriend's birthday with a party of 7. I made a reservation, and when we got to the restaurant there was no waiting, our table was set and ready for us. What I enjoyed was that instead of have two tables the long way together so then you are stuck talking to the people across from you, they placed them the other way to make a large square. Everyone was then able to be involved in conversation. This was an enormous perk. The restaurant is BYOB, and we took advantage as well as everyone else in the restaurant, a huge plus that you don't have to spend money on alcohol at the restaurant, and you can bring what you would like. Their menu is not extensive, but I think that is a sign that they make all of those items very well. We started off with calamari, and everyone ordered various seafood, veal, steak, chicken dishes. My fish was cooked to perfection and my potatoes and broccoli were warm and flavorful. Everyone could not rave enough about their own dishes as well. We ended the night with their creme brûlée topped with blueberries, it was to die for. Our waiter was attentive and very personable. Even though we were a large party, we never felt rushed through our meal. We also never felt like we were being too loud, as everyone else was enjoying their company too. This place is hands down the best Italian food I've had in years. Service is excellent, the foods is excellent, and the atmosphere is so homey. The flavor and quality of the food is out of this world, just had dinner last night with my girlfriend's family. We had the calamari to start, it was delicious! had the Pescatore with spicy sauce. It was EXCELLENT! I also had a few bites of chicken Parmesan and chicken Francese, both easily the best I've ever had. I love the feel and vibe of the small hole in the wall restaurant.
