Its been five years since I last visited Sorrento restaurant and I remember loving it but I just went tonight and unfortunately the quality just isn't the same. I should state that this review is based on a take-out order. The eggplant had a rough texture and the chicken was too thin and lacking any meat. The penne and garlic knots were tasty.

    Snail salad

Order snail salad , cost $22.70 and was such a small portion. On top of that was mostly celery and onions!!! Topped with normal salad dressing. Absolutely the worst snail salad I have ever had in my whole life . Never again.

Highly recommend this restaurant. We have been driving by this place for years and finally stopped for dinner tonight and it was delicious. I would give it 5 stars if it wasn't for the slow service. Our waitress was so very nice but it took so long for her to come to even take our drink order and she didn't come enough to check on us. The waitress did bring over fresh bread and I ordered some meatballs as an appetizer and I loved them and they were only $3.50. I also ordered a Caesar Salad which was tasty. For dinner I had a nice size Veal Parm which was truly delicious and my wife had an amazing amount of chicken with her meal; Chicken Francises. Definitely coming back. Next visit; 1/11/19 Amazing.... but sad that my wife & I had the exact things we had last time. I had the Meatball App & Csaser Salad to start off. The meatballs were so good I got two more with my Veal Parm which I think was the best I have ever had. Yes... best I ever had. Delicious!!! Only difference with my wife's Chicken Francises was not as much chicken as last time. Moving my rating to 5 stars. Delicious!! Worth the 50 minute drive. Our waitress was outstanding... terrible but I forgot her name. Short women with a wonderful personality. So looking forward to going back. Nothing fancy... just good food.

So north providence ri is one of those places that can boast about their Italian presence. Federal hill is a mile away and if you want Italian but don't want the excessive price, parking issues or pretentious frills then you absolutely need to get your butt to sorrento. From the outside it doesn't look like much - at the end of a strip mall on a busy thoroughfare, you may miss it. But go inside and find a spot that's dead middle of the Italian pizza joint down the street from your middle school and the high end upscale Italian you see in the north end of Boston. Legit ! There's something about sorrento that makes you feel like you entered mamas house but this time with a full bar! There is a quieter back room area but the main area by the bar and front windows is where you will likely be seated for a smaller group. Truly it's hard to find many items over $20 on the menu. And for insane portions you receive it feels like they typed out the prices wrong on the menu. Chicken Parmesan easily is 2 meals at very least for one person. That cannot be overstated enough! The tre funghi is my absolutely favorite as it's tossed in a pink sauce (my standby) and it's made fresh fresh fresh every time. If I had to skip something I'd say don't bother with a side salad or app salad - these are the most lackluster and yummy real estate wasting things when the main dishes are so huge. If even say try to avoid the bread for the same reasons. Good seafood options - really fresh and if you fancy a good cocktail this may be your place. Staff is also a delight. Ask for Shannon she's the best. !!

We tried going to Sorrento, but parking is full. There's a sign which says...back parking but no arrows to direct traffic. Left...went to Tumblesalts instead. Exactly where is the back parking?

Turn down Allen ave or take a right down the alley between buildings. Sorrento rear entrance is not complete but is functional, it is the only tan door on back of the building.

Between my husband and I, we ordered the caprese salad and meatballs appetizers, sliced strip steak with mashed potatoes and mushrooms, a fettuccine with asparagus and prosciutto with cream sauce, and dessert was the pannecotta and cannoli. Pasta was freshly made and al dente, steak was tender and flavorful. We loved everything. My only complaint that for a large restaurant, bathroom was small. Only one unit per gender.

The food overall was solid. One star docked because my pasta was over-salted in which I had to scrape the excess sauce on the noodles toward the end. The guanciale paired with pecorino romano is bound to be on the saltier side, but I think the pasta could have been unsalted to balance it out a bit more. That said, the guanciale and pasta were delicious, perfectly cooked. You can tell they use quality, simple ingredients! Their 3-course presto lunch for $24 is a hard to beat deal; however, I may venture out to their regular menu next time. Yes--there will likely be another time!

We sat down, looked at our menus, and about 10-15 mins later we got our waters. When we ordered our food, I asked if they had capellini for my Chicken Francese. Our waitress responded, "No, we don't, but the closest thing we have to it is linguini...but we also have angel hair, penne, and spaghetti." I was a bit confused; capellini is much closer to angel hair than linguini! Same with spaghetti! Brushed it off and my BF ordered a chicken piccata. Couldn't help but notice that the 4 people behind us (who were there before us) didn't order their drinks or food until about 10-15 mins after us, but they got their food 35 mins BEFORE us (we actually started keeping track, we were there for 45-50 mins at this point). We got our food and my boyfriend was very confused because they delivered a chicken Marsala instead of his chicken Piccata; I didn't even notice. He only orders chicken piccata from one other place, so it took him a minute to realize what he had been served... he tried it, thinking that we could just wrap up our experience since we were already running late, took 2 bites and said it wasn't something he liked so he put it at the end of the table. Unfortunately, I had already finished my meal by the time the waitress came over to check on us. No apology for messing up his order, but a, "oh, would you enjoy this?" My boyfriend was stunned. The piccata came out 15-20 mins after this interaction. I enjoyed my chicken Francese and he enjoyed his picatta. Luckily, our shrimp cocktail and peroni were comp'd but I'm not sure why they couldn't just take the meal off at that point -- it was like $4 extra for something that we didn't order in the first place. We were about 30 mins late to the game that we planned well ahead for. Maybe it was a bad night, but this was not a good first impression. TLDR: Service was horrible, food was good.

We have friends in the area who had heard of the place, but had never gone, so we made a reservation (2.5 months ahead for a 4 some on a Friday, so it must be special...) and finally got to see what the fuss was about. (Still wondering.) We started with what ended up being a high point, "beets and frites." A very interesting take with a lot of frites, not enough beets (5 slices under the stack), and about 2 tablespoons of the lemon aioli. The few tastes of the 3-part combination were great. The frites, crisp and soooo thin, were good on their own. The olive oil that came with the bread was very green (young), with a strong flavor but I was surprised that there was no pepper grinder. I had the (special) cod, which came with a lazy prep of broccoli rabe and OK potatoes. The fish was cooked well, moist and fresh, but I'm still not sure what the flavorless green topping was. Our table also had oxtail ravioli, which consisted of tasty little purses of thin pasta and nicely flavored meat inside. (Probably the best entree, and gained the second star.) The eggplant was unremarkable in terms of flavor of the sauce, and the veggies that went into it did not seem to be very fresh. For dessert, we had rhubarb peach tart and chocolate bread pudding. The tart was mostly crust and very shy on the rhubarb. The bread pudding apparently used Hershey's chocolate powder which was not a great flavor and left a grainy texture. The server was not very friendly, somewhat pushy, and insisted that we order the dessert when we ordered everything else. Allegedly, this was because the dessert is made to order, but we had the impression that it was to expedite our table time. Even so, with all that "careful planning" only 3 of the 4 entrees made an entry and we waited quite a while for the 4th to show up, even after asking. Overall, not a good experience and not a place I'll plan to revisit.

Our favorite drink for a night out is a dirty martini extra dirty. The martinis here are NEVER cold enough. They are legit luke warm. So we have learned to ask for them extra shaken here. Not only were our martinis still not cold, but they were clear aka not dirty. We sent them back based on the color and our server brought the same martinis back with a side of olive juice. After trying them with the extra juice they had a dirty water taste to them, almost like the ice used to shake them was dirty, which is ironic considering they were barely cold. I hate to do this but we sent them back again and let the server know they simply didn't taste good and also were not cold enough. He ended up going back and making them himself and they were much better but STILL. It shouldn't be this difficult for a bartender to make a very standard drink. The food unfortunately was also very mid. The table behind us actually sent their food back twice as well and the manager had to come over. It's also worth noting I put in the reservation it was my husband's birthday and there was no acknowledgement of it at all. This restaurant is meant to be a splurge for a nice dinner out and honestly was not up to par at all. $300 dinner for two and I was extremely disappointed. Honestly don't think we will be back.

When you sit down, you have the option to order from any of their menus (from different cuisine types), but we decided to go with Pasta/Italian/Pizza which is Double Zero's speciality. To start off, we got their meatballs. These were solid, the tomato sauce was delicious! I wish the meatball itself had more of a crispy/crunchy outer layer. It was a bit too soft/mushy for my liking. You could definitely tell it was plant-based as well (which is fine, just not my preference!). We got their Cacio e Pepe and the Rigatoni Alla Vodka. I was a big fan of the Garlic Bread Twist! I could honestly eat this by itself. The Garlic Bread wasn't overwhelming the Rigatoni it was paired with but very flavorful. The Rigatoni was okay to me, it wasn't the usual Rigatoni pasta shape and I thought it could've had stronger flavors/seasoning. I really enjoyed their Cacio e Pepe, the cashew cream sauce was very tasty and highlighted the black pepper and cheese flavors. At first I wasn't a fan of it. After a few bites, it grew on me! Service was solid, our waitress was friendly and we got our food quick. I can see this as a great spot for people with dietary restrictions or just a cute date spot as well.
