This is one of the best hidden gems of the providence area. If ever any of you are in the Providence area and you want a really authentic Italian dinner without the price, pretension, and hassle of Federal Hill , but also a restaurant that accommodates families, I highly suggest "Posillipo" off the beaten path on Waterman Ave in North Providence. I've been there twice now and their food is amazing and the ambiance and hospitality are so very rare. You walk in and it feels like being invited to a family dinner. First time I had the Lobster Pescatoré. Was fantastic. Tonight I had their special Rack of Lamb. They asked how I wanted it and delivered perfectly. The chef/owner Luigi is a really friendly older man from Italy. He's the real deal and he runs an amazing restaurant and kitchen. He once told us that he goes to the market at dawn every day to pick out the choicest produce. Everything is made fresh. The Place isn't fancy, but they've made it nice with the space they have. It is a hidden gem. They serve only beer and wine, soda and water. I've only gotten half carafes of Cab. But the chef came out and had shots of homemade limoncello with us before and gave us complimentary Bruschetta. Rumor is they get their bread from Buono Italian Bakery in Providence. I'm usually VERY picky when it comes to Italian food, but the dishes at a Posilippo were 100% authentic and checked all the boxes! The spaghetti with seafood were delicious, and so were the bruschette! The absolute best was the sauce for the Scaloppine, which added to the entire quality of the dish! The owner, Luigi, is also incredibly friendly and made the dining experience so much better by making us feel right at home! Another great dinner at Posillipos! My husband ordered the bruschetta appetizer, which has provolone cheese on it, which I don't like so I didn't try it. But he and my mom loved it! I had gnocchi, so light but filling, with a sauce that reminded me of my aunt's sauce straight from the old country! My mom had Pollo Limone, which I reviewed previously. She loved it too! My husband had the chicken Parm, and he said it was very good. Chef Luciano greeted us when we came in, but it was very busy for a Thursday night. We did have reservations, and when traffic kept us from getting there on time, a phone call saved us and we were able to enjoy our delicious meal. Great little neighborhood Italian restaurant with the food cooked by the old school Italian immigrant owner. Several different menu options, very generous portions and everything is freshly prepared, not frozen. This is the authentic deal. This isn't some overpriced fancy place, the decor is more simple and down home. But make no mistake, this is no dive. It's still classy without being pretentious. The prices are insanely low and the service is outstanding. I've only been here a few times so far but unfortunate enough to live about five minutes down the road so I plan on many more trips here to enjoy sampling the rest of the menu. There is a small parking lot in the front and there's also on street parking. They have a full bar and two separate dining rooms. "Don't judge a book by its cover" This small family Italian Restaurant May not have the fanciest decor but what it lacks in fashion it makes up in substance. I went for a family dinner birthday celebration and we had a wide array of food including the Calamari, Antipasto, Chicken Parmigiana and a Pork Special. It feels like a little hole in the wall Italian place. I ordered the linguine with clams and it was great. There was a lot of clam meat in the dish and the sauce wasn't heavy at all. The salmon dish and the eggplant looked great also. My only complaint is that they seemed to be almost out of drinks. It was 8 o'clock on a Saturday night and I felt like they were running out of things. We ordered wine and they said they only had a few glasses left. This place had been on my list of restaurants to try for quite some time so we finally went to celebrate a birthday. The atmosphere was very casual and it's clear some of the clientele are there quite often as it seemed that many people knew each other and the waitress well. The food took quite a long time to come out - approximately an hour and 10 minutes but we did receive an appetizer compliments of the Chef while we waited. Also after we finished our meal the Chef came out to meet us and shook our hands. The food itself was excellent! Came here with a party of 12 for dinner. Although I lived down the street from this place, never came until last week based on the party organizer's recommendation and rave reviews. The place is a bit small and unassuming - strange setup but can be cozy for a smaller party or date night. The owner of the restaurant was very kind and very personable - came over several times to check on us and cracked a few jokes. We got there for a 7pm reservation and was not served our entrees until 9pm. I understand that this was a large party but a 2 hour wait for dinner!? We did have a few appetizers but were starving. I ordered the Chicken Parm - my usual Italian fare to judge a restaurant by. The portion was much smaller than what I've gotten at other places - it was pounded nice and thin. The sauce and penne were ok but nothing to write home about. If I had to wait 2 hours for Chicken Parm, it should've been the best I've ever have! But sadly passed that I can't say too much good about the place. The dining room is in dire need of a makeover. They have a very old carpet for flooring, chairs that don't match with upholstery of different colors, no window treatments, different lamps in the room that gives terrible lighting, plastic flowers on the tables, it just looks dingy. Dinner started off with a salad that looked like it would have fed a 5 year old. They better off not even giving a salad rather than one that ends up in a bad Yelp review. Where has this amazing place been? Went here last night for a family party. It was my first time and certainly won't be the last. We were seated in a small private room that easily accommodated our 30 person party. The owner immediately greeted everyone who arrived, the servers were prompt on drink orders, and then plate after plate of delicious Italian food began arriving at our tables. The owner came over and introduced herself and gave us a little history of her husbands experience and how they run the restaurant together. The size of the first room (there's a second room, I didn't look at it) is so cozy, The waitress/bartender Dawn is always close and attentive. It has a nice, personal feeling.
