The purple rain drink was amazing. Everything was absolutely delicious. We are a family of italians from New Jersey so we can be very picky about our Italian food and this place is somewhere we would highly recommend. Waiter was also extremely friendly. Definitely will be back if we're ever in the area.

But honestly, our waiter Eric made the whole experience. What an amazing human. He was so kind, genuine and just one of those people you don't forget. He remembered it was our son's birthday and surprised him with tiramisu with our take out order- candle included!! Those little things are what make a place special. Amazing food, great atmosphere, but even better people. It's rare to come across someone who genuinely makes an experience better just by being themselves. Thank you, Eric! We'll definitely be back the next time we're in Providence!

The bread that was brought to the table was very doughy so I asked the server to arm it up. It came back burned. I let this go and tried to it eat it, but in the end I left it and we ordered our drinks and an antipasti. The antipasti was very good, absolutely no complaints there. We ordered our main course and that is where it really went downhill. I was very disappointed with the service we got from that point forward beards and the food was just not up to par as in our previous visit. I even told the server about the veal I ordered that was tough and overcooked and he just said I'm sorry about that and left the table. He never came by to ask us if the food was OK after we first started eating. To top it off the drinks were really expensive. $15 for a glass of red cab, and then to charge you for using a card vs cash, and to suggest a 20% tip.. We are not going back and would not recommend this place again. There are plenty of other Italian restaurants on Atwell Ave to try out.

My sister in law lives in Jamestown and has spoken highly of Al Forno for years with us, but every time we came to visit we couldn't get a reservation. Not this visit! She planned well in advance & the three of us enjoyed a delicious Vermentino wine with our octopus fennel salad and a Caesar salad. Both bright flavors! The entrees were spectacular with a Baked Eggplant and Venetian Chicken that were so plentiful we had to take some of both dishes home. This space is beautiful and Donny made the dining experience very special!

We have friends in the area who had heard of the place, but had never gone, so we made a reservation (2.5 months ahead for a 4 some on a Friday, so it must be special...) and finally got to see what the fuss was about. (Still wondering.) We started with what ended up being a high point, "beets and frites." A very interesting take with a lot of frites, not enough beets (5 slices under the stack), and about 2 tablespoons of the lemon aioli. The few tastes of the 3-part combination were great. The frites, crisp and soooo thin, were good on their own. The olive oil that came with the bread was very green (young), with a strong flavor but I was surprised that there was no pepper grinder. I had the (special) cod, which came with a lazy prep of broccoli rabe and OK potatoes. The fish was cooked well, moist and fresh, but I'm still not sure what the flavorless green topping was. Our table also had oxtail ravioli, which consisted of tasty little purses of thin pasta and nicely flavored meat inside. (Probably the best entree, and gained the second star.) The eggplant was unremarkable in terms of flavor of the sauce, and the veggies that went into it did not seem to be very fresh. For dessert, we had rhubarb peach tart and chocolate bread pudding. The tart was mostly crust and very shy on the rhubarb. The bread pudding apparently used Hershey's chocolate powder which was not a great flavor and left a grainy texture. The server was not very friendly, somewhat pushy, and insisted that we order the dessert when we ordered everything else. Allegedly, this was because the dessert is made to order, but we had the impression that it was to expedite our table time. Even so, with all that "careful planning" only 3 of the 4 entrees made an entry and we waited quite a while for the 4th to show up, even after asking. Overall, not a good experience and not a place I'll plan to revisit.

My review is based on the service and the one drink that we ordered until we found out the pizza was not on the menu for the month of January. When you sit down, you have the option to order from any of their menus (from different cuisine types), but we decided to go with Pasta/Italian/Pizza which is Double Zero's speciality. To start off, we got their meatballs. These were solid, the tomato sauce was delicious! I wish the meatball itself had more of a crispy/crunchy outer layer. It was a bit too soft/mushy for my liking. You could definitely tell it was plant-based as well (which is fine, just not my preference!). We got their Cacio e Pepe and the Rigatoni Alla Vodka. I was a big fan of the Garlic Bread Twist! I could honestly eat this by itself. The Garlic Bread wasn't overwhelming the Rigatoni it was paired with but very flavorful. The Rigatoni was okay to me, it wasn't the usual Rigatoni pasta shape and I thought it could've had stronger flavors/seasoning. I really enjoyed their Cacio e Pepe, the cashew cream sauce was very tasty and highlighted the black pepper and cheese flavors. At first I wasn't a fan of it. After a few bites, it grew on me! Service was solid, our waitress was friendly and we got our food quick. I can see this as a great spot for people with dietary restrictions or just a cute date spot as well. I recommend giving this place a try! I think if I were to come back, I'd like to try their pizzas.
