A long walk in Rome had me hungry and tired. It was early for the lunch crowd and Saturday, but this place has a good number of patrons. Had an excellent pizza, chianti, and tiramisu to cap it off. All excellent, and with an espresso was still only 20 euros. The staff was delightfully attentive even across the language barrier. A great place to relax and people watch in Trastevere. read more

This is a small cozy caffe in Trastevere region. We order the caprese salad, chrispy artichoke romano and baked cheesy patotoes as starters. Everthing we ordered was delecious. Try the freshly baked bread it was one of the best ones I have tried so far. As main dish you try the pasta with cheese and black pepper. We eat our meal with a bottle of la terre chianti and it was a good choice aswell. With that being sad, you should definately come and see this nice little restaurant. read more

Best carbonara I had in Rome and I tried quite a few. Fried calamari was good, just a tad salty. We had a bottle of the Incontro which was excellent for 18 euros. Service can be a little gruff but overall a good place that I would go back to. Funny enough the next night we ate at Cajo & Gajo and realized when we sat down it's the same owners with the exact same menu. Maybe I'm already getting spoiled by the food here in Rome. I would give the ambiance and service 4 stars here, the place is adorable and feels very cozy and snug without being uncomfortable. The service was very prompt and the servers themselves were very good. The food was just kind of....eh. I had the gnocchi with clams and tomatoes and while it was good, it wasn't as flavorful as it could be. My husband got a margherita pizza that had a lot of cheese and not much else. What a breath of fresh air this restaurant is! Although it has a tourist trap like setting and initial atmosphere, it is far better than all the other places in Trastevere that we have visited. The staff is very friendly, helpful and customer-oriented. C&G is not one of those places where they welcome you at first and make you feel awkward once you have entered. The staff really took care of us and practically read or minds although the place was packed. The stylish menus are offered in several different languages. Prices are rather low compared to other restaurants in the district. We got Pasta Carbonara for 8 €, Chardonnay for 3,50 € and a roasted Artichoke for 4 €. The roasted Artichoke is a very creative Antipasto that tastes really good and can be easily shared, finger food Roman style! The Carbonara was easily the best I have ever had. Beautiful place with great food! We were hesitant to walk in because they had the "door guy/salesman" type at the entrance trying to get us to eat at this place. We are very glad we gave it a chance. The pesto and carbonara were both very good and very affordable. The service is amazing as well. Our server was attentive and even gave us a complimentary digestive liquor. The Trastevere area has great restaurants so it's hard to really go wrong with any place but this place definitely stood out from the rest during our 5 day stay in Rome/Trastevere area. read more

Came here for drinks and a snack at night. The waitress gave us some proseco while we waited for a table, which was only about 3 minutes. My girlfriend order a Spritz and I ordered a lambrusco and we shared the trio bruschetta appetizer. The tomato bruschetta and the ham bruschetta were good, but the last one with cheese and spinach? wasn't that great. The drinks were okay as well. I cannot rave enough, I cannot sing loudly enough, I cannot applause hard enough for this little place. Wow wow wow--we went for lunch and stayed till ... were seated outside (upon request), and ordered their carbonara and chicory/sausage/chili pizza. The carbonara put my husband and me in a zone of hushed silence, so singularly were we focused in this seductive tasting, and sucked into this vortex, we could barely speak. Their carbonara might be the best ever. Al dente pasta, sharp Romano cheese freshly grated, egg with perfect consistency yolks and black pepper adding just the right amount of bite. The bacon is not too fatty, slivers of it, smokey--it was pancetta with tiny bits of onion and .... wait for it .... artichokes! Yes, you read that right. Whoever heard of artichokes in a carbonara, right? It was an unexpectedly creative and totally unnecessary but oh so right and welcome touch to the classic. They add no unnecessary cream and no oil, old fashioned recipe. I could eat this every day of my life and die a happy woman. This is sublime: creamy and hits the nerve of your soul. Their pizza? Not your Neapolitan crust, more of a rectangular flatbread piled high with garlic and chili sautéed chicory. Fresh and green vibrantly done, generously thrown in with homemade sausage and cheese. If we were here another day, I'd go back again--and again. And if you're reading this, you're lucky cuz you'll get to go, in which case the carbonara is a must. The prices, btw, are more than reasonable, and the service? These people are ridiculously sweet, informal and offering free dessert wine to everyone. They were genuinely bewildered when we said we don't drink :-)! When our server saw that we had not finished our dishes (the portions are huge), he sits down in the ledge and asks, "Why you no finish? Why?"
