I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the food here! Even though it's right next to the Colosseo, it was not a typical tourist trap. If you pay in cash, they will give your party free limoncello shots! That was a highlight of our meal. Now for the food... - Cacio e Pepe: 4/5 - Roman-style Chicken: 3/5, I thought it was a bit dry. - Porceddu: 5/5, really flavorful! - Seada: 5/5, cool dessert that I think is from Sardinia. I'm glad our waiter recommended trying this.

Huge menu including a dozen wines by the glass, excellent service, & cute upscale (for Rome) ambience. Fettuccini bolognese was delicious with copious meaty sauce and also enjoyed the seadas, a Sardinian dessert.

Great food for the price. Service was quick and our waiter was super friendly. The place was busy when we were there. Shortly after we were seated inside, the rain poured down. And I mean, really poured down. There were folks seated outside and the staff scrambled to find them tables inside. They were nice lending folks umbrellas while they waited for their tables. All in all, even though there was a mad dash of setting up tables and reseating ppl, I thought the service didn't miss a beat. Bravo.

Front is the octopus salad, left are the grilled prawns, the pizza Diablo and right are the grilled veggies. All delish!

First time visiting Italy and after a day at the Colosseum we were starving. Ristorante Volare was a restaurant I had already looked up on Yelp and we happened to stumble across it as we walked a little ways out of the Colosseum. Old school male waiters were fast and efficient with the food. My daughter had the pepperoni pizza or pizza Diablo, I had the octopus salad and the grilled prawns, we got a side of grilled veggies and my husband had the fettuccine bolognese. Everything was delicious...the seafood fresh and the pizza was thin and the pepperoni or salame was tasty. One of the best meals we had in Rome! Just know that the waiters don't fawn over you or even ask if your meal is good you just have to let them know what you need and they are quick to respond. They don't even bring you the check until you ask for it. We were ok with that bc as they say, "when in Rome."

Service was good very friendly workers. Food was good as well I would recommend. Not too pricey and got free limoncello shots when paying cash.

This is truly a great place to eat. You have a partial view to the colosseum. What better ambiance to ask for. Service was perfect and the prices are very good. We started out with Moscardini fritti, which was excellent, followed by Insalata mista and Gnocchi di patate pomodoro e basilico. It was outstanding.

Restaurants in Rome are such a risky roulette of possibility versus reality. Sometimes, the frequent unmet aspirations induces lower expectations which leads to new discoveries ... like the inexpensive, yet fabulous Ristorante Volare. I didn't expect 5-star service or 5-star food, but we enjoyed a 5-star experience on the sidewalk patio of Ristorante Volare sipping Chardonnays (5€) with a view of the Colosseum a couple blocks away. Spaghetti alla Carbonara (8€) Bacon, Eggs, and Cheese woven into perfectly-prepared chewy noodles was rich and decadent. It was more like a dreamy golden breakfast pasta than your grandma's Italian spaghetti and meatballs. Spigola alla Griglia (16€) Fresh and fantastic grilled whole Sea Bass with a simple green side salad may not have been twice as good as the pasta (despite the double cost); however, it was actually worth the money and a refreshing alternative to the boldness of the other dishes. Spinaci (6€) Garlic and Peppers made this plate of sauteed fresh Spinach spicy and brilliant. I simply couldn't get enough of the green goodness while the flavors danced well with the wine and other two items. Double Espressos (4€) A final shot of adrenaline came with these classic Italian after meal caffeine hits. The dark affluent taste had us hyped and ready for exploring more of Rome. Ristorante Volare was better than expected because service was on-point and consistent while the Italian food was bursting with unique and complimentary flavors. Five stars wasn't the expectation, but, behold, it was the experience.

Located in an outer neighborhood (you can take a bus from Pizazza Venezia to within a couple of blocks of the restaurant), we had a late reservation but entered to find the comfortable main rooms still active and lively. When our waiter realized we spoke English, he sought out the owner who helped us navigate the large menu of choices and with his encouragement, we made a meal of primarily the restaurant's starters. We had crudos and tartares, raw clams, and plates of fish and vegetables. The food was extraordinary. Probably the best seafood I've ever had, and I grew up on the New England coast and now live in NYC -- I think I know fish. We also enjoyed a delicious Sardinian wine and ended the meal with the owner's treat of two small glasses of a strawberry liqueur, house-made. Our only regret was that it was our last day in Rome and couldn't return to try more things on the menu. We appreciated the restaurant's friendliness, helpful service, and most of all, the superb fish and shellfish. If I can't travel to Sardinia, I can only hope to return soon to Rome so we can eat at Eleonara d'Arborea again.

What a hidden gem in Rome!…read more Went here about a year ago and still think about this meal to this day. My party stayed here a long time, and the restaurant eventually filled up (we got there early for dinner). The break down of what my party ordered: Pane (bread) x2 - €2 - didn't really order this, it was just brought out at the start of the meal. Sauté Di Cozze (mussels sauté) - €10 - not a huge mussels fan, but I ate a couple. Looked really good, so I'm sure if you like mussels you would enjoy this dish. Risotto alla crema di scampi (risotto with scampi cream) - €12 - the scampi cream really stood out in this dish. I'm a big fan of risotto so this dish was still pretty good, but I personally don't care for scampi cream. Spaghetti alle carbonara (pasta with beaten eggs, bacon, pecorino cheese) - €10 - I've had carbonara before this (and have even made it myself at home), but I've never had carbonara as good as this. Usually I get sick of cream sauces on pasta pretty quickly, but I could eat their carbonara all day everyday. Definitely my favorite dish of the evening. - the pasta was the most al dente pasta I've had in my whole time in Italy. Spigola alla vernaccia (sea bass, olives, vernaccia wine, cherry tomato) - €15 - solid dish, didn't stand out. Panna cotta della casa (homemade panna cotta) - €5 - classic panna cotta, nothing special but still a great way to finish off the meal. To drink: 1/2 liter of wine - €7 - delicious for a wine and light, got me tipsy 1 liter of water - €2.50 Limoncello on the house! - the staff was very generous with their limoncello. It made the experience at this restaurant even better than it already was! Although there were a lot of dishes that weren't to my liking, it was more because I'm not a fan of the raw ingredient rather than the restaurant preparing them poorly. Since the carbonara really changed my life, the alcohol was generous, and the staff was amazing, I still give this restaurant five stars. I would definitely come back here again and recommend it to others.
