We arrived in town on a Friday night and went to eat at Cajun boilers. Our wait wasn't too bad. About 20 min. Definitely the best thing we ate was the red beans and rice. That as a dinner dish would be excellent. I ordered the shrimp Festival meal And it was mediocre at best. The boiled shrimp or over cooked so they were pretty mushy but I am not one to complain in the restaurant has the rest was edible and I was starving. My boyfriend was born in raised in South Louisiana so he knows a thing or two about good Cajun food! He also loved the red beans and rice. He ordered the crabcake meal and like the shrimp meal it was mediocre at best. The best thing about it was the sauce. Probably wouldn't eat here again. I've been to Cajun Boilers a half dozen times over the last 20 years, and every time I go I wonder why I ever miss a chance to go there. The food is great, all kinds of seafood, frog legs, even alligator if you want it, and you can have just about anything cooked any way you want, fried, broiled, whatever. First off this place has excellent customer service. The staff was super friendly and the place was clean. As far as Cajun goes the food was just right. The mixed veggies they have for salad was so so but the dressings were all made in house. I had the pepper Parmesan, my wife had the Blue cheese. For the appetizer we had the sampler with gator, calamari, and crawfish, all fried. We all liked everything but the kids don't like the texture of squid. I think they will out grow that. For the main meal I had Catfish Atchatalya, and let me tell ya, that was the best cat fish I have ever eaten, granted it was smothered in crawfish etouffe. When you get things from the grill they can come to you in four different ways. I had mine blackened. That meal was perfect. Then we had desert. The peanut butter pie was my fave. Red beans & rice in sauce yummy 3 out of 5 not overly salty but not enough rice to bean/sauce ratio. Disappointed by :'boudin' which I thought would be real french blood sausage. But locals surely know better & my husband liked this chicken sausage served w/ mustard. His favorite...the airy peanut butter pie...he got a 2nd to go. Nice lake inlet view from wood deck. I went there with my daughter on Saturday because I had heard good things about this restaurant. We both ordered boiled shrimp mild with fried potato slices and a romaine salad. The waitress set down our meal and we never saw her again. I wanted more lemon slices as we both received one tiny half slice for a 1/2 pound of boiled shrimp (would sure like to have seen those scales). The potato's were so hot we could not eat them. That waitress NEVER came back to check on us. $40.00 down the drain. Shrimp was so over cooked you could not peel it. The peeling stuck to the shrimp and was so rubbery that you could barely scrap off the peeling. I would have asked for something else except she NEVER came back. I waited 25 minutes ( I timed it) to pay the bill. She said "I took of the two teas since I should have came back". YOU THINK? I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy! read more

This place has gone downhill. The food is way over cooked and place is dirty. My 9yo son wouldn't even eat the childrens fried fish because it was burnt and it looked more like fish sticks than catfish. I had boiled shrimp that was so overdone they were impossible to peel. Salad is basically lettuce with one cherry tomatoe. The restrooms are poor quality. I felt more like I was at a gas station. Soap dispenser was hanging open and empty, door to stall didn't close flush so there's a crack i could see other patrons walking in the door. read more

Absolutely the worst customer service whatsoever. While we have no proof, we firmly believe an employee stole my sons iphone, which he left there. Yes, he was irresponsible for leaving it but being a thief is as low as it gets. They have security cameras but refused to let us look at the footage. It Pointed right at our table. Being from Louisiana I'm privileged to eat a lot of good seafood/Cajun food. A local suggested this place over all others so we gave it a shot. The food was good and our waitress was very helpful and friendly. I had a shrimp platter that included fried, boiled, grilled shrimp and shrimp scampi (I sound like Bubba from the Forest Gump movie) and two sides. Food was very tasty, served hot and relatively quick. BUT, bring plenty of cash 'cause they don't take any plastic. read more

Was recommended this place by Alligator Farm guy who said this was a "4 star restaurant ". Lol. Not close but definitely more local flavor. We sat out back which was lovely. Our hostess & waitress were flat out rude, but a nearby waitress was super nice to us! (We even tipped HER - she heard we'd never tried crawfish & got us a few to try.) Our food was good- fried shrimp, mozzarella sticks, red beans & rice, gumbo. Overall the friendly waitress from someone else's table was the best part. Soooooo good!! I had the fish and chips. The best white fish in town. It's an Asian white fish. Don't let that scare you. Hands down it is the best. My boyfriend had the crawfish. Just down the lake from my RV Resort and I love to jump in the boat and dine on the lake any time I get a chance. All of their dishes are well prepared and the shrimp and oysters are the freshest in Hot Springs. Atmosphere is casual with a outdoor deck. The boudin was their saving grace and the only reason I am giving them two stars. The appetizers are decent: fried alligator, fried crawfish, crawfish dip, and the boudin. But then came our entrees. All the shrimp were cold and gave off that "fresh" from the freezer taste. The baked potatoes had been nuked to death and were incredibly dry regardless of the insane amount of butter and sour cream that had been stuffed into them. Ok, here goes. This review is for THE OWNER(s) of Cajun boilers and all of the customers who expect a quality meal for your hard earned money. This is a long review but please read it, as it will save you about two to three hours of your life eating here! Not to mention your health! This restaurant was a VERY good restaurant before it fell into the hands of the present owner. He obviously doesn't care about his restaurant or has NO business running one. He only wants one time customers ( race season)and doesn't care if you come back because I for one will never be back. I feel sorry for your waitstaff that has to work for you because alot of customers take your pathetic excuse for quality food out on your staff. However, they could use a little help too. Let me get a little more in depth. We arrived ( my family of 4) at 6 o'clock. We walked in, expecting a wait.... It is a very popular time to eat. And yes, there is a wait of 20-30 minutes. A good sign in my experience... I decide to use the restroom, and walk through the place only to see tables open EVERYWHERE. Hmmmmm. There's about 10-12 total in the waiting area but there's a seat for every azz plus 30 empty. And waiting. First sign of poor management/ owner. We get seated , and guess what, it's crawfish season! I want crawfish at 3.25 per lb which isn't bad at all considering the other places around town wanting $6 per lb. So let's eat!!! Please bear with me folks , it's worth reading till the end! We order cheese sticks and hush puppies for our two kiddos, my wife ordered crab cakes and I , the 3lb tray of crawfish and plan on eating about 4 more trays. We get the cheese sticks and puppies in a timely manner, thank God, cause my son was ready to eat the napkin in front of him. All is well. The apps are good, after all, it's hard to mess up frozen cheese sticks and hush puppies. Then comes my crawfish and my wife's crabcakes and my son's Mac n cheese .The crabcakes were mediocre but not bad, so thumbs sideways I guess. Here's the interesting part:.... I ordered a 3lb. Tray of crawfish. They are in front of me . And it's nowhere NEAR 3 lbs! Trust me, I eat alot of crawfish and know my stuff. And on top of that, the crawfish were either left over and reboiled or frozen. So, I politely asked my waitress for an explanation as to why I'm paying for 3lbs and getting 1 lb. And I also said they are dry as hell!! She said she would get the manager. I said ok,... I don't wanna make a scene but somebody either thinks I'm an idiot or something is wrong. Manager comes out, I tell her the situation , she takes my 98% uneaten tray and says she will get me 3 more lbs! Lol. I said ok please do, and will you make sure there's 3lbs in it??!! Also, my son's Mac and cheese looks like its a day old and reheated in microwave. We will need a new mac and cheese too please. Oh sure, well your right sir, that doesn't at all look like it usually does. It's ok ma'am. So off she goes to resolve our problems. Manager comes back with a tray of crawfish and I swear to God almighty the tray had less than the first!!! So , we not even talking 1 lb here!!! Lol. In getting red in face at this point. I look her in the face and say , " mam, this is not 3 lbs of crawfish". Yes it is sir, they weigh it. I said , " do they weigh it with the 2lb tray??? Ok, tell ya what... I'll try these and see if they are any better and we will get to the bottom of this in a little while. Well, like the first, they were dry, and tasted like warmed over rotten crawfish. Pathetic. Pathetic. Pathetic. I ate what I could , sifting through the old mixed with the fresh , and asked for my check. We tipped the waitress well even tho she didn't refill my kids' tea one time. And I didn't want her to think it was her fault. Because ultimately it was not. It " boils" down to poor training , lack of good management, and a sorry owner who tries to cheat you because he doesn't care if you come back or not..most customers are from out of town!!!! Well, I got to the bottom of the tray situation. They were in fact sending 1 lb trays of crawfish and the manager and waitress both thought they were 3 lbs!!! Not only was my family's meal terrible, I heard 2 other tables say it was pathetic, threatened to walk out, and I saw plates on people's table that had 85% food left uneaten. There's a serious problem here, and it's all on the owners shoulders!!!! Trust me, I have more to add with other friends and family with similar/ same experiences and yet, I decided to give them another shot. Well, I now see it's the owners lack of knowledge of how to run a restaurant or his poor judgement when you try to cheat paying customers. Avoid this place at all cost my friends!!!! You will thank me later. I will only give one star because the bottle beer was the only thing they couldn't mess up. read more

Worst place ever. When we arrived the hostess ignored us got a few minutes. We were there for a surprise party and had reservations we asked if we could be seated and she said " go sit down" and pointed to the chairs at the front. I was a customer soon after they opened in 1985--it seems like they are just getting better. Great Asian catfish on their decidedly nonBritish Fish & Chips--4 large filets in a cornmeal batter perfectly cooked. Gumbo is great as well. Their grilled potatoes are unusual and delicious: boiled red potatoes either mild or spicy, then sliced and grilled. Best new addition is diabetic-friendly chocolate cake. read more
