Food was pretty good. Service was terrible. Our waitress was horrendous. No smiles, no thanks, no nothing. She acted as if she had something better to do the entire time than to take our order. Yes, we were a large group but I don't think that should change your attitude. None of us were rude and we tipped properly but hey, apparently we put a cramp in her style. Yum, yum, and yum! The restaurant looks like an old Denny's. Its clean and all the employees were very friendly with service high on their priority list. At the server's recommendation, both my husband and I had the jambalaya with eggs. Never before having eggs on Jambalaya...I was hesitant. I'm so happy I ordered it. Called in an order.... was put on hold and waited for 10 minutes before they just hung up on me. Called back and when I explained what had just happened, I got no apology. Just an "ok, well are you ready to order?" Got home, and had pancakes with no butter or syrup. Didn't get my order of blueberry muffins.... when I called back the young hostess wasn't paying attention to anything I was saying. Was very frustrating. Same hostess that hung up on me. The eggs benedict crab cakes here is an art. Their hollandaise sauce is velvety and the eggs are poached beyond perfection. They serve Evolution OJ and apple juice which are the next best thing from freshly squeezed. Cajun is quite the misnomer but their food is out of this world. read more

Nothing that blew my mind, and although I got "Cajun Scrambled (2 scrambled eggs, diced hot sausage, cheddar cheese, choice of toast & potatoes)" I ended up liking what I was able to steal off my girl's plate even more, the "Crazie Shirley's (2 scrambled eggs, mushrooms, spinach & feta cheese, choice of toast & potatoes)" with chorizo. The cornbread I chose was pretty dry throughout, which I suppose I could have avoided had I seen the bag of cornbread sitting on a shelf in the kitchen before ordering, but it wasn't anything a slew of cholula/salsa/butter couldn't liven up. The homefries were on the money, definitely the way to go when picking your type of potato. Girlfriend's spinach/chorizo/feta combo was a winner - but it mainly reminded us of how much we love what I get at the Hash House in San Diego, albeit at twice the price and an hour longer wait. Good stuff, recommended for abundant menu options at fair prices. read more

The food here is ok, but nothing amazing. Their beignet's were good though very non-traditional and that's probably the only good thing to be said. Not good. Don't understand why everyone loves this place. Went in this morning with 6 ppl, ordered gumbo omelet that was flavorless, dry & way over cooked. Ordered biscuits & gravy that tasted like plastic. A chicken fingers & fries. Chicken was raw and fries soggy. A salmon omelet... Meh. And basic scrambled eggs & hash-browns again just meh... One star is being generous! Upon walking in, we were dismissively told to "sit anywhere". The indifference didn't stop there. Not one person smiled or seemed like they wanted to be there. Then there's the food. I love breakfast and it's pretty hard to mess up eggs and potatoes. Yet, my husband and I did not enjoy our meal at all. We got a veggie omelette, the blackened chicken breast (both with hash browns) and beignets. The omelette was lacking any seasoning and flavor whatsoever. The chicken breast wasn't tasty, but at least it wasn't the worst thing I've ever put in my mouth. The hash browns tasted like lighter fluid. And the beignets were just dense fried pieces of dough, not the light, airy deliciousness they are meant to be. Yuck is all I have to say about the entire meal. Oh, and the whole bathroom area stunk. I told the waitress at the beginning of our meal that the soap was out in the women's restroom. True to form, she dismissively told me she would take care of it. I went back at the end of our meal...still no soap. She was sitting, eating her lunch. Not saying she can't eat, but a bathroom with no soap is no bueno in my opinion. We were at the restaurant on 01/03/2018. I wish i could give it no stars. I should have walked out after i had to ask the busboy to clean the seat of all the food he knocked on them from the table. I have been here in the past. It has been a while almost 4 years but its not the same owners. This place should be called the Kitchen. They cannot cook cajun food. They don't know what they are doing in that area. They need to take everything off the menu that has to do with Cajun. My mothers blackened catfish had no flavor and the cornbread as well. Also the Beignets we ordered were fried dough/flour once again no sweetness that a beignet is known for. I and my family come here when we go to SB not anymore we are all Louisiana natives and this is a shame to say you are a Cajun restaurant. People beware if you think this is good cajun food you havent had any good cajun food I advise you to go somewhere else as a point of reference so that you can see what you will be missing by coming here. This rating is based on a single visit for breakfast, mid-week in April. Tasty, inexpensive and good but noting to get too excited about. Really the breakfast was of high quality for the price, especially given the typical cost of a meal in Santa Barbara. The menu selection is large. You can have a very typical meal of diner fare and then there are the cajun/southwestern specialties. I found the Jambalaya omlet a touch disappointing. Exactly what a native of the bayous expects when eating "Cajun/Creole outside of Louisiana... BLAH! The shrimp po'boy had some tasty Mexican flavored sauteed shrimp on a soft pistolet bun. NOT what I would call a po'boy by any stretch of imagination in LA. If the waiter does not ask you if you want that "dressed" you are in trouble. The shrimp Creole was more of a soup than the traditional red gravy. I was so frustrated, that I went home and cooked both dishes to show my friends what it is really supposed to taste like. These recipes might lend themselves to good ingredients for breakfast foods and if you are not from the bayous of Louisiana they might just be what you are looking for in a meal. The staff member taking my order was extremely friendly and helpful with the menu since it was my first time there. My husband absolutely loved the food since he has never really had cajun food. I have had cajun food in New Orleans, and I think Cajun Kitchen is pretty good though of course, not better than New Orleans cajun. The crawfish etouffee is swimming with crawfish and so was the creole jambalaya, they do not cheap out on that! The etouffee was flavored very well but the jambalaya was lacking a bit of flavor. I ordered the food to go but read that adding a bit of tabasco sauce would have remedied that. Unfortunately, the hash brown was undercooked as another reviewer stated--I don't recommend ordering it. We would gladly return to try the other items on their menu. read more

On my me and my fiancee's getaways weekends to Santa Barbara, we always make a stop at this place. Here are my top three dishes: - Chili Verde Omelet - Chili Cheese Omelet - Eggs Benedict They also have a great muffin that is baked in house (i think). I think also for me, the service is really good and quick. Everyone is very nice there and the wait staff doesn't let anything slip through the cracks. It doesn't get a 5-star because it the food doesn't blow be away when we eat there, the food is really good, but not GREAT! (to use a sports references, it's in a hall of very good, not the hall of fame) I really like this place and plan on going every time we go to Santa Barbara. read more
